I watched them in Cardiff on Thurs night they were incredible I can’t stop playing them I’m so in awe of them it’s wa spur of the moment and as I’d missed them four time could not miss the opportunity so glad I. did I’m hypnotised 😵💫 X it was a fill moon too as was back then …
I listened to it on Radio 1, introduced by Gary Davies as " The best band ever to come out of Scotland...", when, at the time, they were the best around, full stop. I'd been to see them at Wembley Stadium the tour before (Aug 89) and they were on a roll.
Having just seen them in Glasgow April 2024, I now can't get enough of their live performances! Thanks to UA-cam for opening up a whole "Book of Brilliant Things" with so many great past performances to find on here.
Me and two mates broke down in my ford orion queuing to get to the gate, we abandoned the car on someones drive and walked in, Stood for hours in the heat keeping position, Im now 58 and would do it again just to re live that night one more time.
Remember this concert well, left Glasgow by bus just before midnight on the Friday after being in the pub, got to Milton Keynes about 6am. Concert was amazing then bus back up to Glasgow around midnight. Was totally worth the travelling
I was at the front, lost a box fresh white Reebok Classic, miraculously I somehow found it resembling a wellington boot 😂 Great line up including Magnum, OMD & The Stranglers. Memories 😊
Me and some friends got a mini bus down from Nottingham, brilliant concert, the band were on fire, probably my favourite ever concert, amazing day and the crowd were well up for it as well. Can’t believe it’s nearly 30 years ago! Thanks for posting
Was there it was totally amazing, Jim owned the place , Charlie's riffs perfect as usual . Saw them in Liverpool this year they are Still Alive and definitely Kicking
Ah, great memories of that day, singing along with my first love! Still got the t shirt and programme somewhere. Many thanks for bringing it all back :D
Hi Art, the version of Book of Brilliant Things is UNBELIEVABLE - best version ever!! This was back when they really used to rock! They don't play that song like that anymore
Hi there I personally prefer the '86 version with Mick's keyboards and all but this version does rock thanks mainly to Mel's drumming. Still in the set with the Electro version but would be good to hear the full rock version again someday! All the best to you.
That's disappointing to hear! I've still to watch the DVD. Some of the shows on this tour have been excellent to say the least. 1995 was the best tour for Charlie in my opinion. Best rock 'n' roll tour anyway! I know what you mean about getting old but I'm glad they are still on the go. Seems like yesterday when I first saw them live in 1982. Anyway thanks and bye for now.
I went to this gig, the weather was great and I remember travelling down - was amazing and managed to get my mum to tape it while I was there! Good times, thanks for posting!
17:53 "I can tell it's gonna be one of these mad, mad nights. You only have to look at the size of that moon!" Cracking version of Stand By Love on this. Haven't heard this since my tape of the concert wore out.
Watching it tonight during a huge full moon on a sub-tropical night in Honolulu... will be "experiencing" SM in 24 nights from tonight in the beautiful City of Light. The last (and only) time I saw them in a "live performance" was in my hometown of San Francisco on my birthday in 1983, so 39 years later am still "Alive and Kicking", and a loyal and steadfast fan of their music !
at the front for the whole gig.amazing.remember never being soon thirsty and getting home at 2 in the morning my brother was still up and had luckily recorded the whole gig on radio 1.was buzzing for days.
Marc Setterfield Great memories Marc! "Brilliant days, wake up on brilliant days Shadows of brilliant ways will change all the time Memories, burning gold memories Gold of day memories change me in these times" - Someone Somewhere In Summertime. Thanks for leaving a comment and all the best Marc.
Brilliant! Love the version of Stand by Love, somehow better than the current live version. Fond memories of this, not long moved to near Northampton so remember it well. Seen them so many times including the first gig at the SSEC but this always stands out.
U2 were Ireland's equivalent of Simple Minds. Saw them at the Bowl. And there *was* a power outage. Backup generator failed. Somewhat ironically in the middle of OMD's 'Electricity'. BBC and other engineers engineers were frantically trying to find out what had tripped the breakers. As a BBC engineer attached to Transcription Recording Unit just off Shepher's Bush in London,, I had a backstage pass.
Own it on double CD ftom the KTS (Kiss The Stone) label, back than in the mid 90is.it was the live bootleg glory days.yellow/black cover with a shot from Jim. Called Real... Real.... LIVE. excellent quality. Complete gig. I hold it as a treasure First Album and Tour without Mick Mc Neal. Very sad, but still very good. I watched a show in 1991 in Düsseldorf Germany, RheinStadium Open Air. Glory Days back then
I think i went to this concert with my girlfriend and best mate? wasn't a big fan but my girlfriend liked them , it was ok, did they only play the one night?if so i was there😂👍 So long ago now i can't remember?
im sure when they came on stage the first thing they shouted was ` how the FXck are you! - probably didn't realise they were going out live on a Saturday afternoon :)great day - sure OMD blew the speakers as well when they started ?
I went to this concert with my best friend Ian he past away at Christmas RIP my friend one of those days I will never forget X

Went to this concert, stood all day on the barrier at the front, they did not disappoint great memories that will forever stay with me.
I watched SM last night in Cardiff, and this concert in 91, so the last 30 or so years have been punctuated beautifully!! ❤️
