- “If we really really want to unite, we can. The lyrics of this song may evoke certain emotions based on your personal experience in life. But what Sly, his message, and what I'm trying to give you guys - let's all become one." - Obed Calvaire
Obed Calvaire’s hyper-funky, rhythmically slippery arrangement of Sly Stone and the Family Stone’s “Don’t Call Me N******, Whitey.” Sly’s decidedly provocative plea for racial unity and mutual understanding was a standout track on his landmark 1969 release Stand! - an album that stood as a shining beacon of hope and new possibilities during a turbulent time in American history.
The Collective’s version, recorded during the band’s seasonal residency in late October and early November 2019, highlights the band’s telekinetic chemistry and features an impassioned rap by vocalist Martin Luther McCoy.

As a drummer, holy immaculate shit batman! This whole band KILLLLLLLED this track! I have absolutely no clue how the bassist and guitarist kept up with those difficult time changes! My brain can NOT wrap itself around this! This is officially the new track I listen to so much that I hate it by the 47,000th listen and still bop my head along to it likes it's the 1st time listening and playing along to! Much love to my extremely talented musician brothers! Fantastic job!

Human is who we really are...
Nice horn & rhythm charts.
Broken Beat has now entered and merged with so-called Jazz Fusion or Jazz Rock... The language continues to expand into infinity. Space Is The Place...
Where are the credits for these musicians?
