I could be mistaken, but I think Run for Cover was a song that Marcus first wrote for David Sanborn’s Voyeur album that was released in 1982. It was my senior year in college.
Marcus Miller is a gift to the world and a joy to listen to. Being a Bay Area native Marcus is to the bass and music what Steph Curry is to shooting three's and the NBA. First show I missed in years and after seeing that not sure I will ever forgive myself. Phenomenal.
Incredible band..... whoever did the sound mix on this is a real pro too, amazing clarity, depth and separation on all the instruments and nuances here...thank you so much Terence, this is magic.
@@sonicart1808 I just posted my "Run for Cover" on my channel...not near the mix BUT I did get to meet Marcus (photo at end). BIG Deal for me to meet one of my musical idols!
Wow! I’ve watched countless mindblowing MM live videos, and this might be the best MM solo I’ve heard yet! I mean dayum, he just keeps getting better and better - unbelievable!!
I've heard this song for over a decade, yet he stays fresh with it! Not only is the song evolving through additions and alternative arrangements, but his solo is such an incredible story. Keeping the classic approaches we all know and love, but always exploring new territory, he takes the listener and the whole band on an adventure that does not disappoint! A timeless legend!
IMHO, possibly one of only two Bass Guitarists whose solos are melodic enough to ever have made sense to me. He plays like a Horn player (which he is). The other one is Jaco. Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
Love the see the extra horn and the percussion. Want to see the guitar back as well. As a bassist I’ve learned so much from Marcus, love all his albums. One time (long time ago)at a jazz club I played a solo and a guest musician said to me afterwards-‘you sound like Marcus Miller’ as much I wished I really did lol it felt amazing to hear that. Then I started paying attention to how I play slap and then realized how much I was influenced by Marcus.
We got to see Marcus do some private instructions while he was at the SFJAZZ Center with some of our SFJAZZ High School All-Stars. It is also so knowledgable and informative in teaching settings as well. Thank you for watching!
hi. this is pure melody. I grow up listen . This great lyrics keep moving guys oh what's a great melody e.g. like Ronny jordan Kerry Calton Bob j. Peter white
Magnificent! Always incredible to listen to and watch. General inquiry: I’ve been playing almost 21 years, and looking back I think I can recall 3 live shows I got the tone I was searching for. Guys like Marcus have gotten their distinct tone so dialed in- and not only that, they are able to retrieve it each and every show. I typically run thru a rig + house/DI. Have I just been completely blissfully unaware of another piece of gear that would help get that solid studio tone each time?
Here is a new "musical setting" of this piece where Marcus Miller will always surprise us with his ease in constantly innovating with his guitar. The added value of its team of musicians ? The fact that the amazing Alex Han on sax is there, it would really be a joy if he returned regularly with Miller as in the great era when he was part of this formation. For those who don't know him, look for old videos where he plays with Marcus, like for example "In a sentimental mood". He is just fantastic 🎷💪
On FIRE, thank you for posting the video! Can I just check whether it's just me or my setup, or is the video and sound ever so slightly out of sync..? Say, around 3 minute mark I can't marry the snare visual and sound in my head, is it off, is my setup introducing latency, or have I finally lost it?
We think he is playing towards the overall sound for the ensemble and within Marcus's vision. Saw him at the Black Cat in SF this same week, he was on fire!

I was born August 1st, 1978. This song is as old as i am. I grew up listening to this when he was with David Sanborn. This song never gets old

Senza dubbio uno dei migliori musicisti al mondo e come bassista il più Groove. Lunga vita a Marcus Miller.

I saw Marcus a few months ago in the open air theatre "Rivierenhof" in Antwerp. It was a "Best off" show, phenomenal..
It was good seeing and hearing Alex Han with Marcus again!
Wow
I said almost exactly the same thing😂

Wow
Love Don Grolnick original piano chords.

Absolutely brilliant, been listening to this song for years and it just gets better. What bass player, what a band
Thank you for sharing the Marcus excelence performance. Greetings from Indonesia.
Super - Nagyon jo
This is a song showcasing the bass but the drums and sax are super tight too. I love it.
waouuuuuu lovely grooooove and so much good vibes! We subscribe! Big love from France!
The performance with george duke is still the best.
Yeah with George Duke and David Sandborn. Good stuff right there
When he played Blast at the Solidarity Of The Arts Festival was the best one I've ever seen but Marcus could play in a alley and it would sound good
His career is filled with too many highlights for us to choose! George Duke and Sanborn are definitely up there!
Bravissimo!
Big Brother M!!
Great performance! Is there more of this show? Thanks for posting.💯💯💯

It’s “THUMPIN’” people lol!
Really, you are all great!!
Thank the universe for Marcus Miller!!!
Marcus killed it!
Magnifique ! Il a rien perdu de son groove sur ce morceau d'anthologie ;)
Minha referência 🥁
Very good version. Seen another with David Sanborn in Montreau in 2015 which is excellent😊.

Eric Marienthal on Tenor! And not getting a solo on this one! I hope there will be more pieces of this concert available soon!
Alex Han and Eric Marienthal together... Pure gold

Cadê o som do baixo ?? 😢
Welcome Back Alex Han!
DaMasta🎧
Just let this song die, you’ve done so many better tunes already
Nobody is talking about the drummer
Just think how much better he could be if he had some of Mark King's magic thumb tape
he likes playing in his Fender rather than his Sire
Wouldn’t you?😂
no sire bass guitar still using the workhorse fender jazz bass
Decent band for sure but somewhat sterile and reminds you of how special the Grolnick/Sanborn/Hiram Bullock unit was back in the day.
Totally agree
932 Oberbrunner Radial
Bradtke Manors
Alex is sounding a lot like Maceo …
That’s not a bad thing, but back in the day he had more of a unique sound to himself .
We think he is playing towards the overall sound for the ensemble and within Marcus's vision. Saw him at the Black Cat in SF this same week, he was on fire!
The man with grey hair looks like Ryan Reynolds 😂
Chaque fois que je veux m'acheter une 5 cordes,je regarde MM, et ça va mieux.
Je vais juste me prendre un chapeau.
Ouchhh
Was that Morgan Freeman on Percussion?
that solo bass is too cruel
