ABOUT THIS CLIP:
Bass legend Marcus Miller and his band perform his 1981 composition “Run for Cover” during his concert on March 15, 2024 - part of the 2023-24 Season and broadcast on Fridays Live.
--
ABOUT THE CONCERT:
Among the greatest electric bassists in the history of the instrument, Marcus Miller is a jazz renaissance man. A two-time GRAMMY-winning producer, arranger, keyboardist, bass clarinetist, and film composer, he was instrumental to Miles Davis’ resurgence in the 1980s and a collaborator with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and McCoy Tyner to Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, and Luther Vandross. He returns to the Miner stage for the first time in nearly five years, performing new music and material from across his staggering career.
A wildly prolific studio musician, Miller and his distinctive bass virtuosity have been heard on well over 500 sessions for a dizzying array of major artists, and as a bandleader, the Brooklyn native has found time to release 18 multifaceted albums, starting with his sparkling 1983 debut “Suddenly.” His soundtrack work spans decades, from 90s comedies including “House Party,” Eddie Murphy’s “Boomerang,” and Keenan Ivory Wayans’ “A Low Down Dirty Shame” to the Chris Rock television series “Everybody Hates Chris” and 2014’s “About Last Night.”

I was born August 1st, 1978. This song is as old as i am. I grew up listening to this when he was with David Sanborn. This song never gets old
I could be mistaken, but I think Run for Cover was a song that Marcus first wrote for David Sanborn’s Voyeur album that was released in 1982. It was my senior year in college.
@@Below-Average_Joe I believe so.
Same here ❤

yeah !
This genius just does NOT age man! excellent stuff Thanks for sharing Y'all!
It was good seeing and hearing Alex Han with Marcus again!
Marcus Miller is a gift to the world and a joy to listen to. Being a Bay Area native Marcus is to the bass and music what Steph Curry is to shooting three's and the NBA. First show I missed in years and after seeing that not sure I will ever forgive myself. Phenomenal.

Marcus Miller nasceu pro baixo !
MASTERCLASS!
To the likes, that are once in a lifetime.
Love Don Grolnick original piano chords.
Thanks to Marcus Miller who still plays this amazing song on his concerts after all these years! And in a new way!
Incredible band..... whoever did the sound mix on this is a real pro too, amazing clarity, depth and separation on all the instruments and nuances here...thank you so much Terence, this is magic.
You got that right on the mix! Outstanding!
Thanks, Outstanding indeed!@@kensonsounds
@@sonicart1808 I just posted my "Run for Cover" on my channel...not near the mix BUT I did get to meet Marcus (photo at end). BIG Deal for me to meet one of my musical idols!
@@kensonsounds Of course, Marcus is a bass legend so totally understandable...Thanks for the info, I'm off to watch it now! 👍
Our sound engineer Masa is the best! Thank you for watching and listening
Marcus is a legend and this is incredible privelege to see him and the band perform so intimately, thanks @sfjazz!
Senza dubbio uno dei migliori musicisti al mondo e come bassista il più Groove. Lunga vita a Marcus Miller.
Wow! I’ve watched countless mindblowing MM live videos, and this might be the best MM solo I’ve heard yet! I mean dayum, he just keeps getting better and better - unbelievable!!

Caught Mr. Miller and some of this group last week in Seattle....smoking hot!
I recorded "Run For Cover" on Friday without getting in trouble. 😀 Great show indeed. I posted to my channel if you want to see?
Vin Diesel Killin it on sax.
😂😂
The Mini Me version!
😂😂😂
I listened to this song when i was junior school ....this song never get old
The performance with george duke is still the best.
Yeah with George Duke and David Sandborn. Good stuff right there
When he played Blast at the Solidarity Of The Arts Festival was the best one I've ever seen but Marcus could play in a alley and it would sound good
His career is filled with too many highlights for us to choose! George Duke and Sanborn are definitely up there!
Eric Marienthal on Tenor! And not getting a solo on this one! I hope there will be more pieces of this concert available soon!
Absolutely brilliant, been listening to this song for years and it just gets better. What bass player, what a band
COOOOLL!!!!!
Bello/Magnifico.👑👑👑👑👑👑🥵
Wow
Thank you ❤
Love the see the extra horn and the percussion. Want to see the guitar back as well. As a bassist I’ve learned so much from Marcus, love all his albums. One time (long time ago)at a jazz club I played a solo and a guest musician said to me afterwards-‘you sound like Marcus Miller’ as much I wished I really did lol it felt amazing to hear that. Then I started paying attention to how I play slap and then realized how much I was influenced by Marcus.
We got to see Marcus do some private instructions while he was at the SFJAZZ Center with some of our SFJAZZ High School All-Stars. It is also so knowledgable and informative in teaching settings as well. Thank you for watching!
This is absolute magic!!!!
Such an iconic bass sound, right?
IMHO, possibly one of only two Bass Guitarists whose solos are melodic enough to ever have made sense to me. He plays like a Horn player (which he is). The other one is Jaco.
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤

👍👍👌
I have yet to see a better sax performance of this song than Everett Harp's in Japan.
Absolutely true!
👌
Старый трек в новой аранжировке. .коасс❤❤❤❤
DaMasta🎧
On FIRE, thank you for posting the video! Can I just check whether it's just me or my setup, or is the video and sound ever so slightly out of sync..? Say, around 3 minute mark I can't marry the snare visual and sound in my head, is it off, is my setup introducing latency, or have I finally lost it?
It's okay on our end. Anyone else having this issue?
Cadê o som do baixo ?? 😢
Marcus is God.

Just let this song die, you’ve done so many better tunes already
he likes playing in his Fender rather than his Sire
Wouldn’t you?😂
Decent band for sure but somewhat sterile and reminds you of how special the Grolnick/Sanborn/Hiram Bullock unit was back in the day.
Totally agree
Alex is sounding a lot like Maceo …
That’s not a bad thing, but back in the day he had more of a unique sound to himself .
We think he is playing towards the overall sound for the ensemble and within Marcus's vision. Saw him at the Black Cat in SF this same week, he was on fire!
Chaque fois que je veux m'acheter une 5 cordes,je regarde MM, et ça va mieux.
Je vais juste me prendre un chapeau.
Was that Morgan Freeman on Percussion?
that solo bass is too cruel
Marcus Miller is the GOAT! Thank you for watching!
