I prefer the Fly3 in particularly for clean tones. The katana has a brighter sound. My only complaint about the fly3 is that it can't be feed by an external powerbank because it require 6.5V.
I've had both and the Fly beats the boss by a mile in all departments. Sounds more like a good amp,, the boss is tinny and fizzy like all the katana range.
Once you get to the 50w combo the larger speaker makes up for that. Of course it’s not a fair comparison but this aren’t thin and fizzy😁 This was just with the EQ set to noon. You can dial more bass in and since there’s a larger speaker and enclosure you can get more bass in theory!
thank you, this vid was my final deciding factor. plus the fantastic setup of just a quick clip of each. the boss katana sounds a bit caustic. i mean, they are both good and similar but you can really hear it in this one. GOIN FOR THE FLY. thanks, brother.
@@ZackSeifMusic any suggestion on a larger amp? GC sold me a fender mustang LT25.... i was ok with it. but then the tuning option stopped working. got it swapped out. went bad AGAIN. for $150 i think they should be able to put something in at least as reliable as a Spark. for gods sake. anyway, just looking for a decent sounding box. the Fly3 is my backup/portable one. i'd be really grateful for any names (or even comparison vids you know are good - had trouble sourcing ones that are current and for this range) so i have a place to start. i think soundwise i like marshall, from comparisons i've heard of the small ones. but this fender sounds ok. even heard a little marshall mg10 and i think it's ok.... but i'm really looking for good bang for buck, $150 or under. don't need fancy features/options, just knobs and good sound. thanks for any help you could give on the recs! beating my head against a wall (new to guitar.)
@@lurklingX for a small combo amp the Boss Katana 50 is the best on the market today. It’s solid state modeling and the FX are top notch. Very real response and feel. Very versatile.
@@ZackSeifMusic ok i'll go look into that. i've heard the mini live.... and the only other katana i saw in store was $350, but maybe that was an even higher model than the 50. thanks for the rec! off to amazon.....
@@ZackSeifMusic so i looked for this one and the names didn't match what i was finding.... did you mean to rec something over $300? that's all i was finding was higher end stuff. (a link would be brilliant, if you don't mind. so i can see the exact one you meant. tnx!)
There is a $30 difference. At the end of the day battery amps that are worth while fall in the $69-249price range. There are some that are more, but these are comparable being in the lower side of the range 😁 thanks for watching!
tone stack is more versatile on katana, but the blackstar is very very versatile also if you know how to adjust tone and use the american uk tone control and the volume on your guitar and the combined 3 stage gain structures (gain control -> drive switch -> master volume control)
katana is not way better. play them both side by side set the same way - this is exactly what they sound like. But if you don't have boht side by side, you can easily get used to the sound of one of them alone just fine and fall in love with it. Both are great.
Katana's 7 watts fuller more expansive tone is more like a real amplifier, plus more Volume, as apposed to the BlackFly3 weighing in at a mighty 3 Watts ='s less volume, ..7>3 ..more expansive, and more Expensive. 🤷
katana is capable of being louder, assuming you don't get the powered extension cab for the blackstar. it's quality of tone for blackstar versus more midrange and more power and more speaker area so louder sound from katana. both are very good
I find it so interesting that people seem to almost be split down the middle, and I think that just goes to show you that these days it's easy to find good travel solutions for amplifiers!

I liked the sounds from the fly more in this video for the most part. Some of the katana distortion I heard here sounded staticky/tinny like you said.
Thank you for the comparison.
You are very welcome!
just bought F3...very impressed
It's really solid!

Seems like it's blackstar ..in this one
but the price is not the same!, the Fly is better cheap than katana. point for the fly for me

Bigger speaker and wattage from the Boss allows it to push more volume.
blackstar is far more natural.
