Came for the amp reviews, stayed for the music. This dude shreds.
me too
his noodling is musical. really enchanting.
If you "mike it up" are we listening to the real sound from the Amps , what is the mike connected to ??
who else has the feeling this guy would sound great on any amp...
I found myself paying more attention to your awesome guitar playing than the demo of the amps, very nice
Indeed! The good playing/varied styles really enhanced this fine comparison demo. However, it made me want both. LOL :-O
But I think I'll get the Blackstar because of the nature of its OD tones and you buy these things for their compact nature, so the BS has more "wow" factor.
Awesome my ASS !
AWESOME GUITAR PLAYING ? Are you joking he is a very average player?

Dude, are you kidding??? You say you came up with that riff at 8:10??? This is one of best riff I heard in my life

Hands down the best demo video of these amps on UA-cam. Thank you so much!
This has to be the best review of these two amps that I've seen and in particular the Fly3. Effortless playing style also, very well done. Thanks.
most youtube gear reviewers could take a lesson from you on how to present a piece.

The best review and presentation of this product, IMO. Straight to the point. Keeping the riffs simple and fun. Well done. Was torn between which one, now am convince which one to get.
which one to buy?
Your fluency in guitar is amazing !
I spend about 6-8 weeks away from home for work every year- my travel rig is a Steinberger Spirit and a Fly 3...
Like seriously bro you are insanely good. Thank you for those amazing riffs. I'm literally watching your video over and over again for those delicious licks.

And this is how it's done! Best amp review ever!Take love bruh!
took me like 2 weeks of searching Spotify to remember that was the Doobie Bros. - great review!
A good player will sound great on any amp. And you’re proof of that 👍🏻 Both Amps from what I’m hearing are very similar in performance. A good match to compare like this. I think what it comes down to after this is personal preference but either would be a good choice.
One of the best youtube reviews ive seen , to the point and covered all aspects and you have a good personality and aren’t irritating like many reviewers can be .
I have a Fly 3 and really dig it. It is really the first micro amp with any truly usable and inspiring tone. I keep it next to the bed, and it's easy enough to toss into a gig bag for meeting chums in the park. I have yet to try the Fly 3 in 6 watt mode with the optional extension cab. My Yamaha THR10 has taken over many of the duties of the Fly 3; that amp is in another class. But, it does give me a highly portable stereo rig with both the Fly3 and THR10 for those low volume living room jams. Thanks for the comparison. Your vids are always enjoyed! The Katana seems like a swell option too.
Same here ... Take the Fly 3 when I go car-camping, and I have the extension cab, but did not find it helped the sound very much. But at home, I keep my Yamaha SLG130 Nylon string guitar plugged into a Yamaha THR5A. Great combo.
Hamid Shibata Bennett I have the Fly 3 with extension cab. It definitely makes a difference having the extra cab in my opinion. Especially when using the delay and having the cabs wide apart from each other. I have been quite impressed with these little amps. I also own a Yamaha THR10X, VOX Adio Air GT and a VOX DA5.
The VOX Adio Air GT is my favourite but I find I carry around the Fly 3 and extension cab just as much. Mostly because they both fit in the bottom of my Gruv Gear Club bag 😀
Between decent tone and the convenience of their small size, the Fly 3 is a real winner 😊
Ashley Shearer two speakers in stereo is always better than one in mono, eh? Well, maybe if I find the extension cab for a deal, I'd pick one up. The Fly 3 became my summertime amp, for when I could toss it into the gig bag and tote a guitar and a djembe up a hill and meet chums in the park.
thr10 vs fly3?

Great chops brotha.and I was actually shocked at how great the Blackstar held up..neck and neck with that damn Katana,in my opinion..
Great playing big man, your guitar is gorgeous, I prefer the katana mini it sounds fuller and the tone is killer. this is the best small amp review I have seen anywhere, thanks for taking the time to do it and sharing it. Cheers. Andy. Scotland.
Great vid. Went out and picked up the fly for teaching. The man is bang on - the loud clean/dirty is awesome and you can even max the gain and clean up on your volume. Really impressive and feels so much more amp- like than the thr 10 I had recently
I have the BlackStar ID:Core 15 Watt amp and I can play with drums, bass, vocals no problem . I mic it when possible but it can handle small rooms/bars easily . BlackStar are just killing it with Quality and versatility . Im Metal all the way and it Delivers !!
Aaron KM i have the 8$
ID +ore 20 and lowv it to death cannot see the point of the micros except for portability, in whcih case the foland cube kills’emall.
Absolutely fantastic playing dude. That Katana sounds incredible. For $100, that thing is amazing. I'm gonna pick one up.
get 2 and run in stereo !!!
Blackstar and Ibanez is pure love. I think the Katana, just like the Boss multi pedal sound to digital.
I own both. Great explanation. That the Katana is all analog both sounds great, and a score. The Blackstar Fly is a great little amp. Two different mini amps. I play a U.S. Sfrat with some Tele ar times. The Mini Katana takes pedals great. Both are worthy little smokers.
Finally someone who knows how to set up an amp.
and now I love my Mini Katana even more !!!
wow about $120 Au for Katana Boss. Thanks for the review and it beats the other 3 in your opinion ill look at geeting one. It would be nice to have a battery operated amp for sure.
Great review of both amps. I have the Fly 3 and like it a lot, but have been considering getting the Katana-Mini. They both sound great when you play through them, making my decision tougher. I just might get the Katana-Mini just for the fun of having both amps.
I'm in the same boat did u ever get the katana mini ? is it that much better than the fly 3 ?
I love the way you play! For my ears, I like the Katana best.
Went and bought the Fly after seeing your great "ear-opening" video.
PS : you are a great player!
kish2 Katana is way better though
I have a Fly 3 for very low volume or portable use and it's really cool for just that. I was wondering about the Katana mini as well, as the high gain sounds of the Fly aren't as high gain as I would have liked. Your guitar sounds pretty 'hot' through that amp though. Thanks for this great comparison!
Indeed the guitar is a lil hot. The pickups in it are rather high output....
I am sold on both... and this dudes riffing and skills.. 🔥😎
Great information!! Great to listen to a demo from a person who is CLEARLY a great artist ! thanks! Both great mini amps!
Thank you so much.....glad the video helped!
I got the blackstar!!! Love it!!!!

I'm convinced, getting the Blackstar Fly 3
Try it with a equalizer pedal. It will change the sound completely for better.
This is a great comparison/review and your guitar playing is fantastic. Thank you and well done!
Great review on the amp dude. Both sounds great in with your killee guitar skill
Bet they won't sound like that if I get one, very tempted to try though. Brilliantly presented.
Fly 3 is good, I'm going with the Boss!
Very melodic playing that I loved and I can’t believe how well that little Blackstar sounds
6 years late to the party, but per the other comments, I can confirm that the riff at 8:10 is awesome. Please tell me that 6 years on you’ve now recorded an album and are touring stadiums around the world playing this riff through one of these amps.
The Katana sounds way more natural and open.
thanks man...these are the reviews I love...settings shown, unbiased opinion, professional playing to showcase range, just great man, no bs, just in your face and ears.
I just purchased the Blackstar Fly3 and obsessed with it. Didn't know about Boss Katana before I purchased the other. Anyways, I hope the Star won't be a let down
Best sounding guitar I've heard in a long time!
Great video great playing I actually put an order for the blackstar fly3 on eBay after watching your video well done.
I have the Blackstar but think I prefer the Boss after watching this demo, awesome review thank you
Just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed your reviews. You provide great and to the point insights and let the gear do most the talking. Keep it up!
Blackstar all the way for me, my Fly3 came with the power adapter and the extension speaker.

I feal like showing off today hmmm I know, I'll do an amp review! Good stuff chief.
Great comparison! I'm already sold on the Fly 3(2 stereo speakers), the Katana has balls, sounds great! My friends are all badass musicians(except me lol), you are an EXCELLENT player! Subbed!
Katana all the way much more power it covers more genres like Hardrock n Metal /m/ I´ll get that one for me
You got some skills dude
I had to subscribe to support! You're awesome! Keep up the great work 👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
8:10 that was sooo good is it a song or just something you made?
Something i made up

Sir I love your playing!!! Also the range of music you play:)
Good comparison. You can certainly play. Would have liked you to have AB’d between them especially cleans. Maybe next time.
Nice playing man!
If you play metal, get the katana mini, if you play anything else: fly 3. The fly had so little gain I ended up purchasing the katana and it's awesome. Does great crunch, lead, and high gain tones. Decent clean tone.
Thank you I am saving a few videos on setting the tone on amps and this video is a keeper I appreciate you doing these videos and your knowledge....Roland J Gutierrez from Magdalena New Mexico USA..
8:10 tabs? Please
Katana has better cleans and more gain. But I think the Fly 3's cleans are good too and I like the OD channel's tone better. Leaves enough room to be pushed with a OD or boost, where the katana would sound like poop IMO.
I wish this included the EVH 5150 micro though.
that EVH is a toy man... these two are the only real micro amps
Love this guys accent ! Namaste bro 🤘
It's a pity that you made 2 video's in 1: The Fly 3 and then the Katana. I would prefer that you keep switching between both amps so that we can hear the differences in sounds the one after the other. But you're a great player.
Dude I enjoyed your accent but I enjoyed your guitar skills even more. I wish I had a friend like you. I could learn to play guitar even better and enjoy your accent. Peace out brother and God bless you. Ps I also have the Blackstar fly. It’s a great amp. Excellent guitar playing brother.
What amp review? Awesome guitar skills yo!
I bought the Blackstar Fly 3. It's really good. But Katana sounds definitely better. I will probably sell my Fly 3 in 6 months or a year to buy katana. Both great mini amps.
True. The Katana sounds clearer, more natural and less muffled.
Your reviews and playing are great - thanks!
Clean solo is soo awesome
First time I've ever found one of your videos, and I've subscribed. Great content, great presentation and awesome guitar playing.
Nice comprehensive A/B comparison brother. I think the Boss might have the edge on tone in the higher gain settings ... BARELY ... but the FLY has the USB and is 35 bucks cheaper. With headphones on you might not be able to tell the difference. Nice job and nice chops too.
Hi from Australia Great review and even better playing . Well done mate.
Sounds great! Doesn’t hurt that your playing rules.
Great review!
Amazing playing!!
Omg awesome playing and katana sold me
That blackstar is putting out a lot of great sound for the cost.
Wow! Awesome shoot out and awesome playing! Anyone know what he was playing at 8:10?
It's my own composition....
Music Bliss Malaysia Very cool riff man. Would love to hear that recorded and released. 🙂
By the way the black star 2 speaker set up fits in my strat case ....face down ...note pad at tail piece to push the body toward the middle of case so tuning peg doesn't rest on amp knob
It's one of those things where I think the Katana sounds better, but not "twice the price" better. Here in Canada, some shops have the Blackstar for only $79, while the Katana seems to be hovering around the $140 mark. For $79, I can't complain at all about the Blackstar's tone.
I was thinking the same.
Travis Lausch. I only paid 59. for my fly 3 the boss is 99.00.
Your twice the price logic was very dumb.
Same here! I think for that price is better the Yamaha thr5 for 50 dollars more
USA katana is $99
Brought the katana today, for me there was no comparing the sound quality in person, katana won hands down. However thats not to say i will not get the fly 3 for when travelling.
i always love hearing you play bro
exceptional demo! I have both but I enjoyed this video
Boss Katana sounds amazing on the high gain tone ! ...
no no its the amp on every single video ive watched the boss katana mini absolutely destroys every micro mini amp you could ever see out in the market right now
lets just say it makes for a really good christmas gift, boss have absolutely outdone themselves, if you dont beleive me dont just watch this video, because every video features different mic positions/different mics different EQ go into different videos watch them, the tone of the boss katana is more full its not tiny like say a crazy stupidly expensive micro orange mini amp (which is absolute shit and a scam) or even one of those marshall mini stacks, all of them have a really thin tiny rattly sound to them which is not very pleasing, the boss katana maybe a little bit bigger, but it packs such a punch i think its well worth it to sacrfice a bit of space for it.
My motto with mini practice amps is "if your not gonna sound good then dont make a sound at all" the blackstar fly3 was key word *WAS* a good amp, but then this launched and well... watt can i say other then its packed with more technology then the blackstar has a proper EQ and sounds a bit better in full tone then the blackstar, but thats just my 2cents
You cant go wrong with a guitar that has stainless steel frets (considering every single stinking manufacturer even fender and gibson seem to be making nickel fretwire which is a lot weaker then stainless steel) your frets are going to outlast your life!!!
Personally i have never tried an ML2 pro but just by looking at it i know its gonna be great, 1st of all lets star with that body heel contour, thats perfect for when you want easy access to the higher frets, and a neck through design for loads of sustain and more vibration between the neck and the body. Locking tuners so it has more stability!! and you also have the ability to make it sound like a humbucker as well as a single coil, its very versatile for what youre getting, so yes i say go ahead to buy the guitar i dont see many(more like none) out there with STAINLESS STEEL FRETS.
The only bad thing i could say about this guitar is that its a neck through and the headstock is angled at a 45 degree angle... Basically if you were to drop this beauty in your case from 5 feet high it would have the same problem many gibson guitars face... a broken headstock split cleanly along the 45 degree angle, you really have to be careful about that design and the way you handle your guitar. If that doesn end up happening you can glue the headstock back on or you can change out the neck for a new one *IF* you had a bolt on neck, not a neck through, but really what can you do about it.
As for the boss katana amp 50 i think you already know the answer if youve seen rob chapman playing on one
Have you ever heard the legend of the Peavey T60's? these guitars are highly saught after, the thing with guitars (or anything really) is that people are looking for brands, the better the brand name on artists and how well they perform the peoples choices will be influenced by just the name on the headstock.
Peavey back in 1980's used to make one of the best guitars money could buy but so many people were fixed on getting fenders and gibsons and other japanese brands (actually the japanese brands were good and somehow even better then american ones in the 90's and the 80's) the peavey T60 had humbuckers with option to go into single coil, it had a straight headstock (like a fender strat) and had a phase switch, and so much versatility this guitar was ahead of its time, i own 1 in all natural ash, and i think its just a really good guitar overall, if you head over to REVERB.COM you can maybe just maybe find one theyre quite rare, they dont make them anymore and its all made in USA you have some really good vintage pocky pickups in there with single coil capabilities.
I would also advise to take a look at some Reverend guitars i know those for a fact are really good as well, just keep in mind that when youre choosing a new guitar keep in mind the shape and angle of the headstock not only would it cause it to break of if you lightly dropped it, the nagle 45 degree headstock causes some tuning issues on G string and D string beacuse a string was meant to go straight out of the nut into the tuning peg, but because these strings are at an angle it creates a breaking point where the string can get caught in the nut causing some tuning issues (minor ones but i notice them either way)
I would also recommend any japanese brand guitars from 80's to the 90's those were made like gold, honestly all of the good guitars were made a long time ago, have you seen the outrage people have with gibson guitars these days? theyre doing really really bad in customer support as well as some of the guitars quality, i would say stay away from gibson if you can and instead opt out for an epiphone les paul with split coils
@@ernestochang1744 dude chill
The blackstar fly 3 seems to project better . Thanks for this demo - very helpful.
I really love your comparison videos man, keep it up! Wanted to ask which of the two would go better with a gt-100 plugged in through the clean channel.
Gosh, I think neither. There wont be enough headroom is make the tones of the GT100 shine through. You're better getting a slightly bigger practice amp, something with at least an 8 inch or 10 inch speaker....
Bro u knw wat, that was just a thorough breakdown from the scratch, n ur accent is just awesome..
One query, i kinda like a bit more into metal as well, which one do u suggest between these two beauties??
Nice vid, earned a like and a sub. Please do a music video on the riff at 8:10 . It would bang. 🔥🖤
I love the BlackStar Fly3, bought the addon speaker for it too, great to have a little practice amp in the kitchen that cuts it. Nice vid btw, and some great guitar playing there !
Well done review!
This browne channel sounds O P man
Dude, this katana looks the Quid my friend.!!!
Both are good, so consider it as comparison on higher level (mini amps). There much worse out there.
In my opinion.
Blackstar for pre-efx sounds.
Boss for the effects sounds. The Boss sounds very HomeMade-ish to my ear.
Hey man. Damn good video and like everyone said, those are some killer chops.
I am planning to buy a mini amp and I have shortlisted these two. I would also like to use the amp as a part time computer speaker. Given the constraint of the computer speaker, which one would you recommend?
Thanks
