We just brought our first hot tub and i won't set it up until i know exactly what to do with the chemicals. After finding your videos, i now feel confident enough to do this, so thank you for taking the time to break each step down and explain it in a simplified way. The best videos i have found so far.
Excellent description, I used my hot tub straight away as soon as I set it up without the shock. Now I am going to start from scratch by shocking my hot tub first. Thank you for very detailed instructions.
Thank you so much. All this takes a bit to get your head around. You are the best video I've seen, as you have taken the time to explain every part clearly and with detail. Much appreciated. X
Hello. Do you know of if there is any air filter inside the unit? Once it sucks air into to water, there should be a filter for the air... and how to clean it? Thanks
Thank you Adam for another great video that easily explains everything. I have found your videos and channel very useful and helpful in setting up and using my hot tub. Thank you again
I just filled mine up yesterday and put two bromine tablets into a bobber to float around and disperse. It's currently reaching about 104* after heating for 24 hours. Can I still shock it with the bromine in there? Or is it an either/or thing?
Another great video Adam. Unfortunately my lay z spa hawaii hydro jet pro is in the garage not getting used due to horrendous electricity bills. Absolutely no chance of running it in the current climate 😪
I’ve just switched mine on to heat it up , I keep running to the electric meter lol , thinking of getting my magnifying glass out and trying to heat it up that way 😂
Hi Adam. Set my hot tub up for the first time. I used shock on it and left it over night. Shows that the Alk and PH is low. Do I just add PH increaser? My hot tub is small and only holds just over 600L water. Thank you
Hi adam got a new spa did all the chemicals and treatments but my lay z spa has gone cloudy after just a few days. Any advice you could give me would be great. 😊
Normally it goes cloudy if the chlorine drops. You can then try shocking it to see if it improves. Otherwise, you'll need to drain and start again. Often discoloured water is caused my people going into the tub that haven't showered. Sun cream, deodorant, make up, and fake tan etc can make it go cloudy. Even the oils from the skin, or worse still urine, will have an impact.
Hello , my question is when i fist shock the water with Chlorine granules , do i need to put the chlorine tablets into the dispenser or i must put them later i.e after few days ?
@@SailingAquila Hi Adam, have liked and subscribed. I was wondering the same all yesterday, after watching all your videos. We picked up a used Maldives for fairly cheap (as a tester to see if we like and can afford to run it) and followed your instruction up to the 20 degrees and chlorine shock. I could find anywhere advice as to whether I need to leave the heater button on all the time....and I mean ALL the time....24/7, regardless of whether I'm heating to 20 or cranking up to the preferred 38 for use. Cheers
My waters gone a bit cloudy after couple uses! Can you put granules in the plastic thing rather than tablets? Also how long do you need to leave it bubbling whilst you shock it? Sorry for the questions 😀
Has to be tablets in the float. Granules are for adding directly. Bubbles are needed just a for few mins to mix, although best to leave filter/heater on for a couple of hours.
@@DashDrones yeah I know, I've just downsized houses so im hoping the cost will just be the difference, ive got good insulation for the floor snd dome tent to protect it from the eliments and hoefully keep the heat in. Im thinking of getting a ecoflow powerbank but we will see
If you’ve shocked it and still cloudy after leaving overnight, it’s probably easiest to replace water. Give the tub a good rinse out too. There are algaecides and clarifiers you can buy that might help, but likely easiest to change water.
Great video! Is it necessary to close the hot tub after adding the chlorine/bromine, as you mentioned that overchlorination can be reduced by exposing the tub to the sun? I was under the impression that we need to leave the tub cover open after adding chlorine so that the fumes don’t get trapped.
Heat to 20 degrees before adding chlorine. Use air or hydro jets to mix for a few mins. Ideally leave filter or heater on for a few hours before testing.
I’ve just got my Lazy spa Miami, and I have added chlorine tablets to the Chem spa. And now only realising I need to shock the water. Is it ok to shock it alongside the Chem spa tablets
I’d take the tablets out then shock. If the tablets have been in a while then maybe add slightly less shock than normal. Put the tablets back in again once chlorine levels start to drop.
It's always best to add different chemicals separately. Wait at least a couple of hours between adding each one. I'm not too sure on the actual chemistry of how those two might work together, but better to be safe than sorry.
Hiadam I'm really struggling with my balance of chemical's in my lazy spa Vegas I'm new to all this I just want to use it safely as I had lung conditions and been trying for over week now to learn it the information is so mis leading online due to my mental health I really struggling to understand it all do u have any shock doseing vids u can send me or by talk me through an it it's become more stressful and I haven't we ven stepped into it be yet many thanks
Iv decided my hot tub days are over. Enjoyed using it over covid / furlough but now electricity is just too expensive. Iv also gone through 2 liners so I’m not really impressed with my lazy spa vegas. My second liner hasn’t been used and is still in the shipping box. I intend to try and sell my lazy spa. Do you think il get £800 for it lol. Just Like they were doing in may of 2020 when they only cost £450 new Lol.
Hey, the guy I bought the spa from says it doesn’t need to be shocked as the water has already chlorine in it from the hose. He says you can use it safely for at least a month
@@SailingAquila I would say so! That's almost 5 times the dose for that tub and will takes weeks to come down on its own. Hopefully people take notice of the dose rate and not what you say. 👍
1200 litres requires 5 tablespoons worth?? Bit excessive. I think people will burn if you put that much in. I would edit that if you don’t want to be sued
Thanks for your comment. Clearly a slip of the tongue as there are multiple references to the measure being teaspoons. Unfortunately UA-cam no longer allows for the adding of annotations to correct videos or re-edits.
Finally someone who explains things properly. Good work!

Great video! Just one little doubt... After pouring the chlorine granules diluted in water, how long do I have to leave the jets running?

Is it table spoons or or tea spoons? As says tea spoons on the chart you put up

After 2 1/2 hours mine was at 3 after shock dose 802L 3 and abit tsp would you suggest to add more than a top? or wait 24 hours
Quick question Adam. When shocking should I put the lid back on.
Yeah, it's fine to put the lid back on while you wait for it to work.
Very helpful adam, much appreciated 👏
Do you leave the heater on overnight after the shock ?
Depends if you want to use the tub or not the next day. Once you've tested it to add the chemicals, you can let it cool again if you want.

What happened with your hawaii hydrojet pro ?
Replaced it a while ago. Tried an MSpa model for a year or so and then went to the Santorini.
Does it need to be a set water temp before I shock the water?? Thanks 😃
You want to make sure the water is at least 20 degrees Celsius...
After you have added the chlorine mix do you leave the jets on for one cycle then leave the filter on for 24 hours?
Yes, jets for a few mins and filter on overnight ensures it’s mixed well.
Thank you
Morning still cloudy what else can I do apart from new water?
If you’ve shocked it and still cloudy after leaving overnight, it’s probably easiest to replace water. Give the tub a good rinse out too.

Do you leave the jets on for 24 hours after you’ve added the chlorine? Or just when your adding the chlorine?
Just when adding the chlorine. Leave it running for a few mins to mix.

I would recommend leaving cover on as UV does ‘burn off’ chlorine. It’s not critical if you’re worried about fumes.
Thanks Adam. Very clear and concise.
Are you not supposed to heat the tub first? Do you keep that running? Confused lol
Heat to 20 degrees before adding chlorine. Use air or hydro jets to mix for a few mins. Ideally leave filter or heater on for a few hours before testing.

so my reading was ok but the 2nd night chlorine has dropped to 0 and ph and alkaline is a lot... how do i adjust?
Good video!
Used your guidance to set up our new Barbados. Thanks so much.
Do I need to keep the cover on for 24 hours?
You can leave cover in or take off during the 24 hours to shock.
What's the difference stabilized vs unstabilised granules?
Stabilised granules last longer in water as sunlight doesn’t reduce it as quickly.
Thanks bud 😎
Great video!
Just one question, when you say leave it for 24 hours. Is that with the airjets on or off?
You can leave it with just the heater or filter running, or even turn it off completely if the temp is above 20 degrees.
