All the PRACTICAL Advice from the video (To save your time) :
    1) Try to experience "PAIN" before the "PLEASURE" AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND
    2) AVOIDANCE (or "Dopamine Detoxxing") OF DOPAMINE-INDUCING-ACTIVITIES = GOOD. Takes 4 weeks
    3) Create Barriers to those Dopamine-Inducing Activities so that you don't do them and to create friction.
    4) Boredom is good. Resets dopamine and unleashes creativity.

This is the best non-guilt inducing video on dopamine (detox) i’ve seen, Ali! I noticed a couple weeks ago that I was really in this addictive cycle of watching UA-cam videos for hours in the morning, and then I’d have no energy/motivation to work on my business. It’s been powerful to put limits around that dopamine cycle by reinstating a good morning routine and setting rules for myself around what I can and can’t watch in the morning before work. And now I’m working on my own UA-cam channel instead, which is what I actually want! Thanks for sharing.

Would LOVE to see something like this with ADHD taken to account! The baseline level for us is a lot more irregular if I remember my reading right, (I may not be), but for instance, the rule of boredom is both my favorite and most challenging for me due to the ADHD. I’m frequently bored but it ends up almost being painful because of the lack of consistent non-spiking dopamine. Seeing as our system is fundamentally different in how we exist with irregular dopamine levels, I’d really like to learn if there’s ways outside of medication that can help us with addictive behaviors.

    Strategies to control your dopamine:
    1) The Rule of Pain
Before Pleasure: if you can get yourself to experience pain before you are more likely to experience pleasure. Video game after going to gym to “reward yourself” type 1 fun: straight out fun like Netflix, video game etc and type 2 fun: temporarily painful but later joy giving like gym, difficult hike etc.
    2) The rule of Avoidance: Avoid constantly doing dopamine inducing activities and things that remind me of such. Like turning off notifications/uninstalling app. Definitely will feel worse before feeling better. Takes typically 4 weeks to go back to normal.
The Rule of Barriers: rather cutting down completely like previously said, put healthy limits/balance: Time barriers, (time limits for apps) Geographical barriers (not buying chocolate and having at home) Categorical barriers: having barriers for certain activities.
Rule of boredom : be okay with boredom and avoid intense thrill seeking and indulging in escapism. Remind yourself that the purpose of this is to “be bored”

I'm researching this for my ADHD kids and have improved my intermediate COMT so it doesn't become slow and was able to stop my ADHD meds with vitamins and minerals instead. These are great tips to add into our plans.

      What does COMT stand for

    • @mama_chelle
      @mama_chelle 6 місяців тому

@21972012145525 In humans, the COMT (Catechol-O-methyltransferase) gene encodes a protein that is involved in metabolizing various catecholamine neurotransmitters. This includes neurotransmitters such as dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. Some COMT gene variants (among others) have been associated with ADHD. MTHFR is another that's recently been getting talked about a lot but following the advice of anyone that say, "just take a methyl vitamin instead" is like playing roulette if you have COMT gene variants as well.

I remember my electricity was out due to a storm for like 3 days and during those days I got better sleep at night read more books and studied more even by candle light than I had in years. I remember before internet in my house I was always reading encyclopedias and studying them then when we finally got internet during covid I became a horrible student and I felt like I couldn't control myself. So these little sneaky addictions literally scare me sometimes. the amount of productivity you have when bored and all distractions are cut out is painful at first but it's so rewarding and beneficial to your life. So I guess just an internet detox with only books paper pens etc when you really need that focus.

I was doing the exact same thing without even knowing it !!! But a year ago I've stopped doing it and just being addicted to these things, i was telling my mind that if u studied enough we will watch/play/scroll, also i was saying if you didn't study this and that in the end of the day , we will not have our phone, i was not even knowing that this is the correct damn thing to do !! But I'm trying to go back to my old self after one year without it.

    Exceptional video!
I've spent 10's of hours trying to understand dopamine and this video has helped me understand it so much better. The difference between tonic and phasic transmission was the biggest thing missing from my understanding of dopamine. it really clears so many gaps in my knowledge and aspects about dopamine that I didn't understand. Thank you for this!

Something that really helped me was how Dr K described our dopamine release as like squeezing a lemon. In the morning we are full of "juice" (dopamine), so any squeeze makes us release a whole load of it, and can mean we leave less in reserve for the rest of the day, especially if we engage in dopamine heavy activities like going our your phone.
Instead if we can restrict our dopamine release by having to work for the rewarding feeling, it can keep us motivated, driven and can help us regulate our dopamine throughout the day. As opposed to just latching on to things that make us "feel good" like our phones.
Because of this I have started to not use my phone for at least the first hour of each day, and I have found so much progress in terms of my focus and my drive to get things done!
(I am making a video actually so if this interests you, you could subscribe ;) )

My Opl are my parents😅. They switch off the wifi at 11:00 pm. I uninstall my Instagram and Pinterest when I'm too distracted, which greatly helps. I read somewhere yesterday that our dopamine drops if we get things or achievements we want, but it wasn't clear to me. You explained it really well. THANK UU SO MUCH FOR SUCH AN INFORMATIVE VIDEO.

Ok, I want to take a moment and appreciate you Ali for making such a highly informative knowledgeable, and valuable video in a world full of dopamine. It was so perfect and I didn't regret a single bit of a moment watching this video. Although I know it was purely related to dopamine and u included all the biological and psychological facts it would have been marvelous if u would have added some Islamic knowledge in this video to further teach balance perfectly. Loved this video
