Good idea. In the resale market the chrono package is very important to many buyers.
I agree!
Nice tutorial man. Simple and clean. Enjoy my friend!
Thanks!
This definitely helped me with mine. Got a chrono clock from a 2016 turbo n installed on my 2012 s. Thanks
Glad to hear!
I see why you did it the clock looks good 👍🏿
Thanks man!
Awesome video. I am going to do this! Thanks 🙏🏼
You got it!!
My chrono looks great 👍 thanks to you 👍 everything works perfect
Great to hear! Happy it worked.
That’s wonderful and hopeful to hear since I’m trying to do the same for my ‘23 GT4.
Where did you buy the parts? Especially the harness?
Great job bro!!
Thanks!
Just wanted to say thank you for this video! Referenced yours and James from Auto Amateur to get this retrofit done on my 991.1. I suspect your video opened the flood gates, these clocks fly off the shelf from eBay now. A LOT of people without sport chrono wish they had the clock!
I’m glad I was the pioneer!!
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
This is awesome!!
I’m trying to do the same thing on my ‘23 GT4. Do you know where I can purchase the kit? Do you think will be the same steps for 718 GT4?
Appreciate the detailed steps!!
You are great!!
loved this video actually learned some new tips. only thing missing is prices of things.
Thanks! Prices depend on where you buy them. But I linked most
@@TommyLGarage didn't notice, awesome, thanks!
Good video tommy
Appreciate it
I notice that your Carrera T has the sport chrono dial on the wheel. This is why the functions are active on your multifunction dash. Those of us that have c2/c2s w/o sport chrono will only get the clock function to work but will not get the chrono functions. Thanks for posting
Hmmm you might be right
Do you think with the clock and a new wheel, I could get rev matching down shifts on my 991.1 C2S?
@@jayroc1502 I don't think so. I believe this is where you will need to update the PCU since the hardware is only half of the equation. TLG's worked because his car has the software already and was missing the hardware. Those of us that don't have either, will need both:Tuning and clock...
Yea I would NEVER attempt this on my own. I have 4 left thumbs. But it was fun watching you do it.
Thanks !!
Looks good
Thanks Steve
Interesting! Do you have something similar for the macan?
Thank you! I just did this mod. 🎉🎉
Nice work!
@@TommyLGarage Thank you! I must admit I struggled with the brown and red/orange wires, as they are a bigger gauge so my literal linear brain would not allow me to tap a 20 gauge into a 16! But once I hit the override button it all came together. 🤣😂 She is straight piped, pdk, plugs, coils, all oils and filters done. My stage 2 M4 is gone - too much for the twisties and I don’t track. Happy with my little vw on steroids.
@@thankyou7491 Little VW is the way to go!!!
Wow. That's simple. I thought you might need to rewrite OBD to unlock the feature. You just unlock the feature when you add one yourself. Good job, Porsche :D.
I was surprised too!
Probably because all Carrera T comes with sport chrono pkg. It is just missing the physical clock.
@@your_alter_egodefinitely because of that. It’s not that simple if the car doesn’t have sport chrono, will need coding
Looks great, you need to do something with your center tach though. Looks dull relative to the rest of the interior. I would do the yellow center tach.
I thought about it but it would be too loud. Too much yellow
Thank you very much and clearly showing. Just want to know if this with PCM 3.0 2015 991.1?
Yes the procedure will be exactly the same
Very cool. Does it give you the over boost function?
991T has the overboost feature built in it already
Did you buy a porsche genuine stopwatch or an imitation ?
Bright.!!!
Yellow!
Hey Tommy That was awesome!.. I have a 2013 991 4s and it didn't come with a Chrono. I just bought one on eBay from a 2014 991 totaled on an accident. Question, will the same color cables apply to my chrono install? To the best of your knowledge will it work?
Thanks amigo!
Same color cables! Not sure about the harness but just use any wires.
Absolutely love it! Is there any possibility of a 992 version being released?
I’m sure it can be done in a 992 the same way
@TommyLGarage, I was wondering if you could arrange an hour or two of your time to work on another 992 as if it were your own. I'm currently located in the city of Miami; the weather is beautiful now, and there is plenty to see. I've been struggling to find someone who can install them for me. If it helps, I'd be more than happy to fly you into Miami. Please let me know if you would consider it. I greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Good day Tommy, since fitting the chrono, have you had to code it? or its just worked from day 1? cheers
It worked since day 1
Does this add the track precision app compatibility as well? Should show up via CarPlay if so!
I dont see it
i like the tutorial. but out of interest, the car already needed to have the sport chrono option for the stop watch to work right? otherwise it will just be a clock?
That’s right
Nice tutorial video! Is the same method with the Panamera (970) PCM 3.1? As I know the same cable needs there as well.
Thanks! Yes same procedure.
@@TommyLGarage Thank you! I will do it on the next week and let you know the updates!
Hello, where can I get it, thanks
Great install, but remember that adding this doesn't give you any of the other package features (dynamic engine mounts, rev-matching, launch mode, etc).
The T already comes with that from the factory.
Amazing. The C
clock works without coding the functions by Porsche? And you do not generate an error in the Bus-System?
Nope all works as intended.
Found an aftermarket sport chrono clock for the 991.2. Since I don’t have sport chrono or sport plus option it seems it will only be a clock. If that’s the case do I need to rewire and splice cables or will there be an available port to just connect the new connector in without dissecting all the wires?
Wiring will be the same, but you are right. You will only get the clock. It will still look nice.
I have a 911 carrera 991, where can I get it?
Hello. Did you update the 981 chrono function? or it just work as your 911 chrono function ?
It works since the T has it built in
Awesome Tommy! I've been searching for instructions for 2 yrs now. I got everything ready to go. After pulling the radio I realized by 991.1 and your 991.2 radio plugs are different. I seem to have more and differently located wire plugs. Can you confirm the process will be the same? The same 4 colored wires tapping into the same four on the radio side? Much appreciate it Tommy! I also hit you on FB messenger if easier. Keep up the awesome work!
Hi. Yes the process is the same. You’ll be tapping into the same wires. Just make sure you tap into the thick brown one.
@@TommyLGarage Hey Tommy, got all my stuff and about ready to do the surgery... One thing I noticed, the cable I have, the chrono side looks exactly the same as yours, but the plug on the back of the clock isn't exactly the same as the plug. Looks like the plug can go in either way, so it can be flipped 180 and still go in. Was this the case for you? The Chrono until I have is from a GT3 991.2. Female end has 6 pins, just like the plug side, but plug alignment does not enforce orientation... any thoughts?
OK... I *think* I got it... from looking into the chrono plug, I can see where the circuit board has connections. There's on orientation where the two diagonal corners have wires and the other orientation there are no wires... I think we have a winner... but if you have thoughts pls let me know before I fry the car... :)
@@gnailuh Hi Hugh, how did the install go on your 991.1? Any trouble?
@@pilsurq installed and clock working great. But no chrono function on the multi function display. It has to be unlocked with the piwis 2 tool and an activation code. Not sure how to get (buy) the activation code. Doubt dealer will give you. So until I can figure that out, I have a car that looks like sports chrono and a really “cool” clock.
Hi, this is inspiring and encourages me to consider the same for my 718 GT4. Whenever I've spoken to technicians, they've mentioned that I'd need to order the entire dashboard, claiming they can't accomplish the task with just wiring. Do you know if retrofitting of adding Chrono is possible on the 718 GT4? I've already located all the necessary parts along with the connecting cables, but there's scant information available online. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Good news. Wiring is really the same so this tutorial will work
I’m a software engineer so I would say I’m good in problem solving and I will trust you and order the components and do it myself 😎
@@gt4_pedrodid you end up installing in your gt4
thank you for this useful video and I have a question for you, maybe you can help me. I bought a stopwatch for my 2020 Porsche Macan, but the thing is that the wire colors are completely different than the ones on the back of the screen module. Has anyone had a chance to do this?
If you bought a stopwatch from a 997 generation it won’t work. Otherwise any chrono clock from recent generations should fit as it it essentially the same.
thank you .@@TommyLGarage
done with the m cars? porsche is the way forward? 911 was that much better than the cayman as you hoped?
Better and more !
Does this only work with the t? My c2 doesn’t have the sport mode selector dial on steering wheel.
You’ll still get the clock to work if you tap into the wires.
I wonder if this will work on a Porsche Macan with PCM 4.0? Cheers
Yes it does
@@TommyLGarage cheers

Fleet update soon!!
@tommylgarage I’m trying to do the same on my 2023 GT4. Do you know where I can get the kit? The harness seems to be the challenge. Thank you!!
Everything is linked in the video description for you :)
@@TommyLGarage thank you! Where did you buy the harness? In the video it shows a part # but mine is a 718 cayman instead of a 911 so the part #s are different.
Does anyone know if the 9P1919203C and 9P1919203E versions of the stopwatch are compatible? If not what is the difference?
Should be the same. Mounts look identical
after disconnecting battery did you reset computer ?
No need.
Thats crazy that the car recognized the sports chrono and let you start/stop it from the gauge cluster.
I was amazed
can it be fitted for taycan models ?
I don’t see why not.
Can I gets the part number of the cover? You got it on EBay?
Yes ebay has it. Just search for sport Chrono cover. Same on 991.1 and 991.2
whats the purpose of the stopwatch ? does it automatically time your lap ?
Manually. But it looks awesome!
Tommy L Garage worth it!! Love your videos man
Hi! Did somebody managed to do it on 992? Thank you!
Not that I know of but I bet you the wiring is similar if not the same
Wil this void the factory warranty?
Should not really. Unless the actual clock fails
@@TommyLGarage Thanks for your rely. So when you plug the cables in etc, it doesn't make any modifications to ECU? What I'm thinking is if clock fail, just remove and put back original top then claim for warranty.
@@YuhaoBoku oh yes. Ecu won’t be affected at all
@@TommyLGarage Nice! Will the clock be controllable via PCM? Or is it power only?
bummer after hours of wire swapping gage was no good, sad
Sorry! But at least you’ve got a video to know how to do it when the gauge gets fixed

A lot of people subscribed for the BMW content. It's going to be a rocky road for this new content, seeing as a lot more people have access to F30 and F80's, and most of them share all the same tech so tutorials and such are easy to replicate on any model. The channel has basically switched into totally new content so the existing subscribers have less incentive to stay or watch. Not as many people with Porsche's around, so it's now more important to subscribe for the vlogs and the man himself, instead of trying to gain something for yourself as a BMW owner.
