You have balls of steel sir, Well done.
Haha thank you
I concur titanium more like it
I don't have a Cayman - why am I watching this like I'm definitely going to do this mod?? :-)
Same here daha
You are not alone
Me too 🤷♂️
@@hqganggreen I do have an F80 - TLG vids are just so irresistable!
Thanks fellas!!!
Top job and 10 out of 10 for bravery with that blade!
Thank you!!!
You’ve got some balls Tommy. Excellent!
Haha thanks
It looks like the car came like this from factory! Good job bud! 👏
Thanks Kelon!!
Well, I went and did it.. love the look, was harder to cut than I thought, but after about 4 hours, its looking ace. Thanks to your video..
Welcome to the club!!!
I got goosebumps just thinking of you cutting into the dashboard. Watched your video and -heck- I want to put a Chrono on my F82 dash!
Lmao!!!!
And there's me thinking that it was a major job to cut a hole into the dashboard and yada yada yada but this guy just went at it with a stanley knife and some tape.
Haha
You are a brave man for cutting your dash like that. Looks great!
Haha thanks! It was something I needed to do
Tommy mate, you’ve always loved cutting your dash. First the M now the Porsche 😂 Love the videos keep them up!! Such a clean OEM install.
I like to live dangerously ;)
Very impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing the coding video as well. Thanks for doing this video!
Thanks! Coding will be interesting
Nice job 👌🏻 Looks like the CAYMAN came with it directly from Porsche.
That was the idea. Thanks !
The items you called 'receivers for screws' are called 'speed nuts.' Great video.
Thanks!!
Well done. You're insane for attempting this, but it looks like factory as others have mentioned.
Thanks! I think it worked out well
Polish Power💪 I would dare to even attempt this...lol Good job Tommy!!!
Dzieki!!!
I don’t have this car but I did this similar kind of mod in my f30. I wanted the drivers glove box or cubby hole. The same one you probably have in your f80 under the light switch. I cut it in with a blade the same way. Nice job.
Wow you’re brave!! Nice job
Man that looks great! Excellent job my man!
Thanks!!
Great video / fantastic mod, looks ace 👍 Well done.
Thanks Lee!
Great job.....Looks pretty darn sharp! 👍
Thanks!!
A very brave man, well done.
Thank you!
great vid and superb job, i want to swap the dial colour on my chrono so will use your instructions to remove radio and vents. hopefully wont be too hard
It’s fairly easy. The sport Chrono clock face just unscrews. You can try to do it that way first
You have done it perfectly 👌 very nice. thnks for making this video.
Most welcome 😊 hope it helped
Big respect for cutting into a porsche
Purists will be disappointed in you
For sure!
You are one brave alpha male. Respect to you sir!
Thank you!
Great work Tommy!
Thanks Roy!!!
Got to be happy with that! Great job Tommy. Any heart stopping moments? :))
None.. It was fairly easy
well done man, but that had to be stressful!
Thanks. Actually wasn’t too bad. I always had a thought in the back of my mind that the worst that could happen is a new dash :)
Great job.... gives alot of us hope to upgrade.
It was fairly straight forward
Wow nice job👍🏻
Thanks!!
Excellent work Tommy 👍
Thanks!!
Sport Chrono adds ~10 horsepower.
13 to be exact...
Do you get the HP bump with the SC? Do you need to code for it? When you made that first cut in the dash my stomach was in knots. Ballsy!
very satisfying
Glad you think so!
Great tutorial, I am going to give a go myself but I need your assistance with regards the colour of the clock housing. My dash is the same colour as yours but am struggling to match the colour of the housing. The interior code of my Cayman is AG, which I thought stood for Agate grey. So I ordered an agate grey housing which turned out to be the wrong colour. If possible can you please forward me the part number of the housing?
Thanks in advance
I don’t have it handy unfortunately. Try calling suncoast parts.
Nice job TL!
Thanks!!!
Listening to 101.1. Nice job 👏
Haha it is on by default. I never listen to the radio
I don't have a 981 but this is a cool video. Thanks
Thanks for watching !
You have balls of steel my friend!
Biiiiiig
Looks awesome - I think I'm doing it!
Thanks! You’ll love it
absolutely beautiful.
Thank you!!
Hi Tommy, I know it has been a year since you fitted this, but, did you ever install Sports plus to your car, like you said?
No. I didn’t need it. Manual rev matching is great!
Tommy, can I take this to mean that you were able to code it for rev matching? If so, can you detail how?
Great video tommy
Thank you
Which other wires also need splicing into ?
Great how to I have been interested in doing the same alteration to my 981 Boxster, one question, have you added plug and play to the radio and if so what version level 3.1 or another version? Thanks....
Thanks for the info, I just completed this mod on my 991.2…luckily I just had to get a new panel vs. cutting to the dash!
Nice work!
Man. I wish I had your patience. Get job!
Thanks!!
Amazing video!!! Very very detailed!!
Thanks!!
I would like to use this template. I was wondering if you could trace it out on a piece of paper, scan it to PDF, then send it to me? That would be awesome! Let me know and I can send you my email. Thanks, George.
Great vid well done looks so nice
Thank you!
What about when he pulled out the second vent and some grommet piece fell back into the dash! You can see there's some grey piece on the vent closest to the camera in the far back!
He’s the worst
wow, nice job. this is impressive!
Thank you!
Is there a follow up video of adding the pairing sport chrono features to the car?
I never did it. This was enough
Ty for the quick response! Just picked up a 13 981 boxster and plan to add this feature to my car! Excellent content.
@@saabdork thank you!!
Good job Tommy!
Thanks Paul!
Hey Tommy,...So, Im shopping for a 981 Boxster,....and I really want the Sports Chrono Pack. So, I found one that has a ton of options,...but no Sports Chrono. I see that you added the "Sports Chrono" to your Porsche, that said, you're proof that Sports Chrono can be added post production. However, what I'd like to know is, after adding Sports Chrono,...can one also add the additional Center Console buttons and gain additional functions of the Sports Chrono Package? Fyi,...I'm looking at a fairly loaded 981. The miles are high at 64k,...but it appears to be in nice condition based on the pics. Thank man... JMD
Yes you can add the buttons but extensive coding is required and I don’t have the skills for it. Someone in Europe did it.
@@TommyLGarage Thank you.
insane!
Good or bad ?
Nice job but did you get the rev-matching coded in the end ? When I ordered my 981, the only reason for me to get the SC package were the dynamic driveline mounts, the sport plus mode and the rev-matching feature that also came with it.
Not yet but I will. For now I enjoy the look of the dash :)
Hello Tomy, congratulations on the excellent work you have done, I wanted to ask you about the connection of the cables from the clock to the radio, in the video I saw that you explained that the color brown and white is related only to brown and that the color red and orange with red, but can you tell me about the other two with which colors you have connected? because in the video I can not see it, thank you very much and wish you success in other projects.
Hey. I did a better video in my recent one. Look up 991 sport Chrono install and you’ll see how I did it. Same procedure :)
Thank u soo much bro, I did the same procedure for the porsche panamera, and the chrono clock worked, but then the camera did not work and the radio did not stop! why can this happen ..!?😊
Thank you very much bro, I did it and it turned out to be successful👍🏻. I wish you health and many successes😊👏🏻
thank you for the very informative video :) Quick question, if I have a cdr31 car radio (no PCM) are the same cables at the back? It's for a 991 GT3 RS
Yes. Same stuff
Also this might help: ua-cam.com/video/tjiQIruEEBA/v-deo.html
Amazing job, simplified and straight forward! Do you think the same would apply on a 987? Been researching online on how to retrofit my 08 Cayman
Thanks! It should indeed be the same
one more question - does it matter if the donor car is a manual or automatic? base or s? my car is a 2.7 base manual...thank you in advance if you a. know the answer and b. can reply!
It doesn’t matter. All the same!
@@TommyLGarage thank you!
Warranty successfully voided ;) Is there a good place behind those side panels of the centre console to hide a GPS tracker? It could be too obvious though...
I don't have warranty...and what GPS tracker?
Balls of steel
Haha
@@TommyLGarage I made this comment before I looked at the comments. Looks like many others agree lol
Cutting into a car that you’ve had for a few weeks, absolute mad man
Thanks for the video Tommy. I have a cayman with SC and I need to remove the clock to fix the broken clock hands. Do you think I can remove the clock by just removing the vents without taking out the pcm? Can I access the clock screw through the vent openings?
Thanks
You can do it easier - you can unscrew the bezel. You’ll need sticky hands but it’s doable
@@TommyLGarage awesome, thanks Tommy!
Fascinated to see how the coding for the Sport Chrono functions is done. Is it possible to enable the Sport Chrono gear shift assist and g-force displays as well as the rev matching functionality that you mention? Very useful video, thanks.
I am still looking into programming, but so far this has been working great. I love the look of it. And thank you for watching.
@Tommy L Garage I assume that you can't start and stop the stopwatch as it is. I have asked 2 official Porsche dealers (Australia) whether it is possible to retrofit/enable the Sport Chrono functionality and displays (such as gear shift assist) on my 981. I was advised that it was possible for the previous generation 987 but to do so on the 981 requires a code that is tied to the VIN and only available from Porsche. Hence not possible. There have been some posts on Porsche forums about this. Owners of 981 GT4s in USA have reported Porsche dealers enabling Chrono displays via PIWIS. Other non-official advice on forums is that it is a setting in the Instrument code that simply confirms SC capability. One way or another it looks like you have to be handy with PIWIS. Thanks again for your videos and good luck with the coding.
Dealer wont do it on 981 ad 991 without an activation code but there's an instructions on planet-9 to enable sport plus using PIWIS2 or 3 full using engineering mode(so it wont require enabling code) but its in German :)
Nice job man!
Thanks !!
Nobody does it like you tommy
That’s what she said!!!!
Great vid , did you ever manage to get the Rev matching working ?
Thanks. And no. Decided it’s not necessary. I kind of prefer not having it now. On the street I rev match quite okay. At the track it’s even easier since when you brake hard your brake goes in deep and levels with the throttle.
Check out the line of advanced OLFA Utility Knives with safety features.
HaHa. I was pretty sure you were going to end up losing a finger after this mod.
It's official!! You are crazier than Nick Murray. He invented Porsche craziness.
Let’s hope my Porsche lasts :)
Excellent videos!! Question - Do you know if the Clock has to come from another Cayman or can it be from another model? Thanks.
Apparently yes. You can use other clocks
@@TommyLGarage Thanks - how can I get a copy of the template? Purchased a clock for my 2014 Cayman.
Very knowledgable
Thank you
@@TommyLGarage thank YOU for this content
That’s nuts. No way man!
Haha I’m nuts what can I say
I approve
Thanks dad!
This is amazing!
I have the same shitty CDR31 PCM system and no sport chrono in a base 981.
Your video gives me hope :D
Did this clock add rev-matching to your car?
No rev matching bit I will code it soon
I was wondering if you can send me the pattern you make for the cut out?
I don’t have it anymore unfortunately
@@TommyLGarage no worries, I noticed your in New Jersey, I was born and raised in jersey city, I live now in Los Angeles
👍
pretty cool!
Thanks!
Amazing retrofit ! Thank you for the sharing. Do you still plan to code the auto-rev matching feature ? Do you plan to put an LSD on it too ?
Thanks! Will code rev marching sometime soon. And no need for lsd since the car already has it
@@TommyLGarage Which one is it ? Or maybe the car have PTV ?
I want to do this to my GT4 but im super nervous about cutting the leather.
You should be fine
Did you ever code it for Rev matching? That's the feature I'm most interested in.
Not yet but working on it
where could I buy part for montage this chrono?
I linked it all in the description
Hi, did you also activate the sport + functions, PSM sport, etc?
Nope I did not
Great video. The 718 chrono clock fits to 981? And the 991 chrono clock fits 981? Because i found a cheap chrono for 991 but im not sure if works in my 981.
Yes apparently they all are interchangeable
I bought a chrono 99155864103CGJ part for a 991 gt2. I hope it works for me.
Works for me :) thanks a lot for the video. I'm still waiting when you are going to retrofit the launch control and the sport plus package software?
Decent Job!
Thanks :)
You know anyone who has replaced the simple AC unit with an automatic climate control unit? Considering doing that to my 718?
no; but will look into it
Hi, I’d like to use the template you created. Could you trace it out on a piece of paper, then scan it to PDF and send it to me? That would be great!
Sorry I no longer have it. But it is super easy to make. Just follow what I did
@@TommyLGarage Will do, I just thought I’d make it easier on myself lol
Hi have you colour of cable behid radio?
Yes it's in the video
Inspired from your video so my parts are on the way ;)
By the way, have you been able to code it and let the red hand in the dial stop and go with stalk switch?
Looks like chrono functions are somewhat different between the CDR and PCM. (Yours seems CDR and so does mine)
Want to hear your progress after physical retrofit!
Good luck with the install. You'll love the look! I decided not to code - no need for it. I don't need auto rev matching.
@@TommyLGarage thanks for the reply!
May I ask without coding, if the red hand is moving all the time?
@@psirusdustin yes it is. It works 100%
@@TommyLGarage Thank you. Just wondered if I can stop the red hand or not.
Hi Tommy, how did you get on with programming the sport chrono functions with the Rev matching feature?
I haven't gotten to it yet. Not really critical
@@TommyLGarage I’ll be waiting for a video if you do 👍🏼 as you say not critical but would complete the sport chrono retrofit
Hi, when are you going to do it? :)
Where can I get this chrono clock?
eBay
Cool👍🏿
Yey!
does chrono function work now?
Just the clock
Can you document the programming for it?
Yes will do
Bro did you have to take off negetive terminal??
Yes of course.
But why? If you wanted this feature so badly, why not wait and get the spec you wanted that includes the chrono package?
I like to tinker with cars. And this one I found had most of the base options I wanted minus the sport Chrono. Hence the update. And I can also share this diy with the community
Hey.... is it just me or does it look a little crooked...?
ha just kidding, nicely done man
Nice try. I starred at this thing for a long time haha
Bro, do mine!
I’m afraid
Pleeeeeaaaaaase?!?!?!?!
@3:01 you lost a clip.
I think it was already lost
Tommy, can I get a template?
I don’t have them. I sent out the two I had
I'm gonna pause right here and go back a few episodes I didn't even know timmy bought a Porsche smh..
Get on with it!! :)
Either this guy got a divorce or his wife is very understanding every time he disappears to the garage to tinker with his car.
I don't sleep :)
Sports chrono requires no coding? Just plug and play?
Clock doesn’t require any coding
@@TommyLGarage Do you know if this will work for a 970 Panamera ?
broo0o ...
Brrrrooooooo!
