You were at 262 at 180 seconds then you should drop from then on according to the chart. Is there a reason you increased temp after that?

Looks like another no replier! I thought it best to move the heat gun smoothly & not all over! How important is it to pre heat the board (the bottom)? Another video says if you don't, you risk warping the m/b. Thanks
Have a Toshiba I want to do a GPU reflow, but want to be more prepared.

All you people saying you recommend fixing it up and selling it. knowing it would fail eventually, are whats wrong with this world. this method shown is only one part of this process. the temps are incorrect though. they are much to high. that aside, the board needs to be preheated. the use of flux IS possible and from what i know is recommended. but used correctly. the full temperature profile of this video is wrong. but the heat shield you see is correct. pansy out and use tin foil if you like but if you want this to work without serious destruction then don't use tin foil.

O M G ! ! ! I did this on a Pavilion G7 for a neighbor friend of mine and IT WORKED!!!! We were yelling YEAH so loud after it turned on!! Thank you for the tutorial.
As a side note, we did not cover anything, we just leveled the board and heated the chip directly. After letting it cool we did the bottom as well.
Still in shock this worked! I'll update this if anything goes wrong with it. Posted 11-16-14

Tin melting temperature around 220-250c and that's should the maximum temperature and heat at this temperature for 4-6 minutes. Pour liquid flux around the chipset .. Many video in UA-cam how to put flux correctly, then Use aluminum tape to cover surrounding the chipset
Use heat gun start with low setting and heat the chipset and surrounding evenly around 80c for first 3min, then focus evenly on the gpu chipset slowly increase to 230c for 5min, then lower the temperature slowly to 60c for 3min, let it cool down. Wash with alcohol or acetone with brush,.

sir how do you know if the one your reflowing is the gpu? Is gpu always located near the fan of the motherboard? or not? because i have d260 acer aspire one it has this weird pixels issue on screen and went blank, i thought it was bios problem but when i do more research i found it its due to its gpu problem overhearting making all the part of the ball lost contact to mother board, but i can't tell which part should i reflow because i don't where is the gpu located and i did some research again and what i found wasn't satisfying and really not informative so i still cant figure out where is the gpu located, anyhow is there any other way to reflow the gpu without using the hot air gun since i don't have one ,, your reply is much appreciated, Good day. and thank you For the video.

    "v"
No, it is not. Speaking as a former HP repair tech, re-balling the GPU and then fixing the thermal module with a proper copper shim totally solves the problem of the GPU getting too hot and de-soldering itself.
Now, the other problems that HP laptops have.... well it's still all on the fault of the engineers.
Preheating the bottom of the motherboard is a BAD idea, as the DV9000 logic boards have components right on the bottom side of the GPU. They like to fall off.

You said you are a computer service, but use this stupid method and you put the video in UA-cam? Oh, God, protect people.... Maybe you know this is temporaly decision - after a week, or two, or month this notebook will be in service, AGAIN, for same problem.... The simplest thing for repair is reballin the chip, right solution is to replace with a new chip, manufactured in 2010. Yu just use a hotair gun... Where is the preheating on the bottom of the mobo? Where are so many things...

Hello mixospp, I have a problem which begun after the heat gun trick. 2 components were blown off the mainboard. One: the connector for the fan, Twoo: a small transistor near connector named at One.
Can you tell me, looking at your mainboard, which components I mean and can you tell me the text written on Twoo? It's a black small component with some text on it. This one I have to add.

In some cases, maybe, but in most cases, I've seen, only gpu replacement fix the problem. We try to reball many 6150, 8400, 8600 IC's + copper shim and AC ceramique grease, but they work for a few days and blow off. Only replacing with a new, 2011 and later maniactured IC fix the problem for long time. If you want, you can share your opinion at P.M.. Thanks.

However, maybe your notebook works for 9 months after heating with heat gun. But another 10 may dies after month... Those IC's needs to be reball or replaces with a NEW one. That's even not a reflow, because for reflow you need to preheating the bottom side of the mobo.. and many other things...
Like I said - however, nevermind...

I've done a successful repair using this method and indeed, it works. But what's with the red background? What does it mean?

Hello my question to you is this. Was it just a lucky quest that you made when you thought that the problem might be the nvidea chip?

Stop spam, because at 1:00 he say's ~220C and at 3:00 he says to move closer the heatgun to go ~270C. Watch video carefullly and if you don't like it don't watch please.
And get your commercial video's out of here.

Ditch the lead-free solder balls!!! Throw them away, chuck it in the bin! God I hate them.
That's what causing all them cracked solder joints.

Unbelievably, I just used my new heat gun @ 750 watts to revive my T61. I was doing it blind, but I tried 2 mins at about 10" and 1 minute at about 4-10, with about a 67% / 33% split. Just did a test boot, and it works like a charm. Hope it lasts until the T440s comes out!

    επειδή δεν έχω κάποιο φύλλο αλουμινίου μπορώ να βάλω διπλή στρώση από αλουμινόχαρτο για την προστασία των άλλων μερών της μητρικής από τη θερμοκρασία;

  • @electronicslabcom
    @electronicslabcom  11 років тому

plung an external monitor and if the problem remains then its the graphic card u will need to reflow it

with me it happend after i installed the new gpu driver update 2 weeks ago.
black screen with white vertical lines. i tried reflowing, then i got some red lines instead of white and then a minute later it turned white again. i didnt use a hot air gun as show on this video but a hairdryer. i do have a hot air gun in the basement but my question is do i set the hot air gun on 250 degrees celcius and hold 15 cm away? or put it on 300c and hold 15 cm away? i dont have a thermometer :(

When you start the laptop, HDD lights look normal for booting, its just that the Graphics processor won't let you see it. You can also run the manufacturers boot tests too, but basically it seems to boot but no display.
