I am of the mindset that no bike really sucks. They all have a specific purpose and certain riders would love to have what others deem as a sucky bike. I have a 1978 CB400 Honda....Its a crap bike. But its a fun crap bike.

The boxer engine is solid with the right maintenance. Its a aircooled boxer with 110 hp and 115 NM of torque. Topspeed stock is around 140 mph wich is fast enough for a naked. It corners like a Pro. In the Alps you leave faster bikes behind you because it is nimble as hell and the torque comes in early. I have a GS 1200 with the same engine. Okay in a straight line my friends gsxr1000 eats me alive twice. But in curvy roads the beemer is better.

I bought a 2018 a few months ago (standard/Premium, not 'Pure') and this bike is a beast, yet oddly forgiving. You forget about the jugs sticking out the side a quarter mile down the road. It's plenty fast, exceptionally nimble (the upgraded suspension helps on the higher end model, I'm sure) and I disagree with it being styled as "good at nothing" or whatever the exact term was. It's a great all-rounder, even though it's not the blue ribbon prizewinner in any one area. There is one deficit, and that is, being an Oilhead (air cooled with oil cooler) I dont take it commuting in standstill Austin traffic in the summer. It just isn't a lazy downtown stop-and-go machine. But have no fear of the reliability of this Munich, Germany manufactured machine. It's not S.E. Asia-made like the G310 R which is an emerging-market model. It's bulletproof to almost all things but the rider's screwups ;)

In 1980 my "scooter" was a R100 RT. When I wanted to to drag the cylinder head guards while smoking Sportsters and even some GS1000's/KZ900's. Some was rider skill and some was pure torque. It was quick enough but not much for drag racing. In the Sierra twisties it was awesome. When I got home I put the winshield and hard bags back on and ride very comfortably for 1000 -2000 - 3000 miles. It was a spectacular scooter.

The style of bike is a roadster. Triumph actually invented the style. For years roadsters were the sport bike of the day. Everybody including Harley Davidson came out with their version of the roadster. Harley's version is the Sportster. Today roadsters are a blank canvas that you can make into whatever you want or need. You're right, they don't do anything the best, but they don't need to. I look forward to seeing your show. Take care and be safe. VAUGHN

Got a R1150R in 2002...still take it out a fair bit..one thing I definitely agree on is the boxer needs something more to stretch out on during a long ride. But if you like a little more steel , with a good feel and 130 , 135 mph is fast enough in a pinch ( without loaded hard bags ) 125 with . Maybe just maybe you'd like something like this . Haven't clocked 0 to 60...but it sounds similar to this model... 50 , 60 mpg IMP. gallons . 43+ when GPing...

100 horsepower bikes are perfect for the street. My 2018 Super Duke with 177 horsepower and 106 ft psd of torque, your lucky to use half throttle around town. To use all the power safely, you need a track. With high horsepower bikes you barely get into 2nd gear and your in triple digits. This BMW is a perfect naked bike for city use.

If you grew up on Japanese bikes, It's hard to go to European and American brands where dealer networks are far fewer and everything is more expensive. Consumer Reports the highest customer satisfaction is with the four Japanese brands. The draw must be status, not merely getting from point A to point B. But, there are many beta males and females out there that think that they can buy status, so hence the existence of brands like bmw, Ducati, Harley Davidson , Indian, Triumph, etc.

    • @BartholomewSmutz
      @BartholomewSmutz 4 роки тому

I truly think the main reason the Japanese bikes are rated as the most reliable are because they just aren't ridden enough to have problems. Of course a bike that sets in the garage won't have any problems. Here is a little experiment you can do yourself. Go on Cycletrader.com and do a search for a Japanese bike (other than Goldwing) that has more than 50,000 miles on it regardless of age. I guarantee you will find relatively few. Now do the same for BMW and you will find plenty and take into account how many more Japanese bikes there are. BMW owners actually ride their bikes.

I have a 2017 RNineT Pure with the brushed aluminum tank and it's a very fun bike to ride and great looking as well. However if you're looking for a bike for long distance touring it's not a bike you want to ride all day. It's comfortable but only to a point. Of course it's not made for touring but it handles great and has plenty of torque. I highly recommend the R Nine T to anyone who wants a great looking and fun bike that won't break the bank.

Pretty good price, I see these bikes all the time over $10k. I think you hit it on the head that its an all around retro bike thats not great at any one thing. Here's the thing though, when you buy a bike you usually want it to be the best at something. This bike fits the demographic of someone that wants retro, has more money to spend, but just cruises everywhere they ride.
It doesn't have multiple ride maps, but its decent. Comes with heated grips I think which is good in your area. You guys need to get a TTR. I want to see you ride one in sport mode. This BMW is said to have more power at higher speeds than the triumph, but in the sport more with very little exhaust mods..... The TTR kills it. Still, the BMW over all like you said, is a great bike. For me... I think its going to be Triumph Thruxton 1200 R for the retro, fast, great looking up to 3 hour rides, and a BMW GSA for long trips.... FYI most GS bikes you see are water cooled motor driven, this R9T is air cooled.
One last little factoid.... If you live in downtown LA, yeah the air isn't so good, LA county though is vast. Where I live which is Long beach, said to have the most good weather days on the planet. (look it up) all but 14-20 days are dry. The temp hits below 50 during the day, once or twice a year. I can surf, skate board, or snow board in the same day in the winter. (when I was younger that is)
The Air by the beach which is a 10 minute walk from my door is as clean as PA since the primary air Factory on this planet is the Ocean. I can ride PCH in 2 minutes or so, in 20 minutes I'm in palos verdes. In 45 minutes I'm riding Glendora mountain road, crystal lake cafe, Idylwild, big bear, all within an hour or so........ Anything you can get in another part of the country is right here. And...... it costs...lol Love PA, or any of the 43 states I've visited.... But that air comment was a bit deceiving. No matter what people say about liberal verses Conservative, the primary reason people flock to "LA" is the weather. If the air was as bad as you claim it is, that would not be the case.
    Keep up the great vids.

I either want a big powerful comfortable premium bike or a little tiny bike that’s hyper and high strung but with not near enough suspension it makes riding slow fun like being in my small hatch car it’s not fast or slow but it feels like your doing 110mph every where you go 😂 and my dodge is all power and flys but don’t feel like it! So like my bikes if I’m in kill mode don’t jump on the race bike or the fast car or I will over shoot something I forget I can’t really stop I’m actually going 110 now and just not feeling like it! 🥴

Got a question. I'm turning 65 next week and considering buying a bike. The last one I owned and rode was 31 years ago. Life stuff with family prevented me to purchasing another since. That said, kids all grown and I am on my own and like I said am considering getting a bike. I'm not a big guy and don't want no fat boy Harley. Just a bike that I can enjoy cruising around town and maybe short trips of 200 miles or so. I'm thinking that perhaps I should stay in the 500 to 750cc range to get used to the feel again. I'm just wondering what you might suggest for an older guy like myself who wants to get in the wind again.

Danny, I am 3 months from my 63, gl1100 striped down, 600 lbs . Light enough I can handle it easy, enough go to get on the highway, bought cheap fix everything. That BMW ,100 hp @ 500 lbs is a lot to handle . My 450 hondamatic is easy going, not enough motor for the highway. Also most people only ride 15 to 20 times a year. 30k for a new road King is a lot for weekend rides summer time. Good luck to you

@@calvinnoah6372 I'm not planning on spending 30K thats for sure. Like to get one for under 3k just to ease my butt back in the saddle. Like I said, it's been 31 years since I have ridden and I think I need to ease back in with maybe a 500 to 750cc..I'm not planning much highway travel. Most will be done on the state routes and maybe US routes

Bmw is split into historical boxer and pure performance. The hp2, putting a boxer in a sporty hull, exists after all. But the BMW s1000rrAnd being as cookie cutter except for the first asymmetrical face like any Japanese bike exists too. And I guess building cars too might result in more development like 6 cylinder s etc.

OMG I would fall asleep on the American highways. What is the speed limit? 70 mph? On the German Autobahn my average speed is 124 mph. Sometimes I freak out a bit and drive my Blade Vmax. This is not possible everywhere on the Autobahn, but there are enough tracks WITHOUT tempo limit. What a luck!
The R nine T is one of the few BMW motorcycles that I like. Otherwise I do not like BMW products. The Japanese are better. And I love Ducati motorcycles.

I owned a 2014. The stock suspension is terrible and probably suited for a 150lb rider. Also, it makes taller guys look like they're on a scooter.
Seat killed my back and was horrible after 40-60 miles.
An inattentive driver put it down last year. I would have replaced it this year, anyways. My wife hated the passenger seat and could only tolerate riding around a half hour.
I liked the sound, it had nice pick-up, and was fun for solo rides once the springs, shock, and steering dampener were swapped-out with HyperPro parts.

It looks tight, cramped, and way to sporting... but man, Im 54, 6'3" tall, and 250+lbs... I fit this fine, and it was a blast!! If I had to defect from Guzzi this would be it.
