- Whew this was a hard one! (That's what she said). As mentioned in the video, this list could've easily been a Top 20 - or even Top 50 - considering all the amazing physiques that have come and gone throughout the decades. So narrowing it down to the Top 10 best skeletal structures of all time was no easy task. Hopefully you enjoy :)
Don't forget to follow me on Instagram: tomn8er1
It took over 4 minutes to start the video fam...
Yeah I like to explain the criteria because a lot of people THINK they understand but really have no clue. I had someone tell me so-and-so was "more conditioned because his biceps were fuller and V-taper was much more amazing"... 🙄
Tomn8er makes sense, thanks for the explanation man💪🏽
Too bad you couldn't find a shot of Cedric without gyno. Cormier was overlooked. He was 260 with a small waist.
@@Tomn8er I always look forward to your videos.
@@The_ex-atheistwk6tv nah he was honestly lucky to even make it on this list
Dude you have really original ideas for Bodybuilding videos, people really forget about skeletal structure and its importance in sport general.
Yeah absolutely!! I support his content, it is thoughtful and not a clickbait shite updates that other channels put all the time🤦🏻♂️
P.S. what about Dallas M. Structure?
Saw him at 2016 AC europe stage, he had an amazing structure indeed
@@armenakbalasanov9074 Herculean structure.
Yeah im on UA-cam talking about oiled mens Bodys, hun
@@Xerxez22 Xerxes Cruz, more Like Scooby doofenschmitz
When it comes to bodybuilding it isn't that important otherwise a Phil Heath couldn't have won so many Olympias.
Paul Dillet is probably the only freak aesthetic monster ever
Yeah I remember when he appeared in the pro ranks in 1993. On some shots, he was just like a bigger flex wheeler.
And early years ronnie
Big ramy has a relatively small waist
@@aasserelzoghby6781 big ramy isn't aesthetically pleasing by any means
@@ngatiwarrior6975 not just big ramy, anyone with testosterone level higher than a normal female is ugly
The Apollonian vs Herculean aspect is a fascinating one. That could definitely be a cool video on it's own some time.
Siberius Wolf i agree
What is that
@@raindoset5408 - It was probably mentioned in the video. It's like the athletic sort of build, compared to the thicker more strong looking build. Like athleticism vs power. The size of the waist I think has a lot to do with it, but also the general flow of the physique. Like comparing Flex Wheeler to Arnold. Or Cedric/Andrew Jacked to a lot of the other guys.
Ronnie Coleman is an interesting one, because he started out with a very aesthetic athletic pretty flow, but then got so muscular that he kind of became the other category lol. I like Ronnie's 1991 sort of physique the most. Wild transformation.
So basically the Flex Wheeler Dorian Yates 93’ Olympia
@@connorclarke1218 - Yea. Opposite ends of the spectrum there for sure.
Paul Dillet is an actual monster
he is not from this planet
Giganigga
And you're an actual bot!
@@nealkelly9757 lmao
Yeah but Markus Rühl outmuscled him
Just so u know, dillet had scoliosis so he could not deadlift, row and squat that s why his back was mediocre even though his insertions would have made him mr o, he also had sever asthma that s one of the reaspns he struggled to pose.
i never knew this shit. f for dillet
yeah. You even can see this on video while he tries to pose - he struggles. And in GYM videos same - but you can actually see his breathing affected BADLY.
thats why I believe his body and placings are a lot more spectacular.
Clen would have helped his asthma🤔
@@dansmith9724 Maybe clen is the reason he was always shaking like a leaf when holding a pose.
Sinen Riahi Stop spreading bullshit. By saying that you show you have no idea what scoliosis is.
Based on the symptoms he is more prone to have a neuromuscular disorder with the main focus in the back, where is a big part of Central Nervous System, that's why he couldn't develop and control back muscles.
Brian buccanon should have been more than an honourable mention, his proportions were insane!
i actually had brian buchanan number 1!
He lacked the height i guess.
Brian lived with a mate of mine in the 90's for awhile- ive seen him in person- he was a total freak of a bodybuilder and yes insane taper an physique.
U mean brian Buchanan the BB or Brian Bucaneer the pirate?
Yep I think he should be #1
Was expecting to see Sergio first, but damn Dillett was a living cartoon character
@Gerbert D Aurillac he didnt have a back tho
@Gerbert D Aurillac hell yeah Joel Stubbs too
Tense 1 gtfoh like you really know ! Pathetic .......,
@@b-bopeddie1290 that's what all the other bodybuilders said n charles glass his trainer said it in a recent interview
He almost looked like those guys at the swimming pool in despicable me 3
More Dillet videos please ! The guy was an alien!
Shame about his back (and posing)
This is one of the best bodybuilding channels no doubt, your videos can be so original. I was honestly expecting Arnold to make the list but thinking about it more I get it that he had flaws, like wide waist. He was also 6'2", arguably a little too tall.... It's really tough to make a list like this. Great work.
I watch most of the bodybuilding channels, Rx, nsp, desktop and marx, tomn8er is the best hands down
The most accurate placement
Ronnie #2 and Paul #1 very conviencing
Man Paul was just from another planet with that structure.
man that paul dillet crucifix is easily one of my favorite bodybuilding pictures ever taken its just beautiful and also it does his physique justice contrary to most shots that showcase his difficulties posing.
Beyeke is so aesthetic it hurts.
Dillet is just crazy too.
3:30 jay is dwarfing Kai and phil😮
I think that Brian Buchanan should also be on this list
love that
He was in the list...but it was an honourable mention
@@ezeuzuka3344 I know. I think he deserves more than an honourable mention. In my opinion he has the best structure ever and it would be fair to place him on the top of this list.
@@adam5307 agreed..but just like tomn8er said..this list is HIS opinion, lists like these are always gonna be subjective...me personally i think Denis wolf should've been higher.. but that's my opinion
@@ezeuzuka3344 You are totally right
Great vid dude! Steve Weinberger says that whoever has the best conditioned bones will be in the top 5.
Finally the video I've been waiting for. Skeletal structure is one of the most important genetics In bb in my opinion.
Definitely up there, I would say insertions is high up
@@ArtGuides I agree, insertions and structure are the 2 most important factors in my opinion.
It’s unfortunate Paul Dillet is the most photoshopped bodybuilder of all time. He looks freaky enough without it.
superultramegagigaterapetanigga 90000000000000000000000000
Lee Haney gets underated on all these lists for some reason! Really thought he should be either #1 or #2.
He could be! This is just my opinion
Dennis wolf, Cedric McMillan, big ramy,
Edit: how could I forget Paul dillet. Crazy proportions
Someone with a good knowledge of both 3D rendering and bodybuilding would make this one hell of a visually impressive presentation. It's really hard to separate the muscles from the skeleton in visualization. Doable, but tough. Despite that, you did an incredible job describing everything.
I love how your top pick for best skeletal structure literally has scoliosis lol
Is that true?
I know he had something wrong with his back which is why it wasn't as well developed as his front. I am quite sure he had scoliosis.
Imagine what he would have looked like if he had been of sound health. It’s such a shame.
@@thunderball11111 Probably the greatest of all time.
He didn’t literally have scoliosis, just figuratively.
Paul could of been Mr. Olympia and probably could of won it 10× plus, only if, only if he posed right, and developed his back. UNBEATABLE.
THANK U for Paul Dillet #1, when the vid first started I was like "I don't care who u put as #1, for me Paul is #1", then 10 min later bang :D
Never realised Cedric was 42?! I thought he was in his late 20's lol
Wow great topic! I haven’t seen a video on this topic ever. People always talk about how important it is but never seem to make any content on it. Good initiative as usual.
P.S. Really liked how you weren’t afraid to critique Weinberger and the crappy judging system. It’s nice having your own job and not having to worry about repercussions s from the powers that be in the IFBB and NPC.
13:17 one of the best what ifs
Vids like this are why I love thos channel. No one else's dose vods like this
Thanks, great vid about a very interesting topic not often mentioned, the frame, genetic lottery in a sense
Paul Dillette in some poses was just out of this world
Sergio Oliva is my favorite for best structure.
Yeah, he was a freak both in structure, and in muscle shapes and length - for EVERY muscle!! Even calves!!
Yeah I've always wondered why nobody ever talks about the bone structure of body builders. Now I'm glad someone like you has done a video on it. Thanks man.
Feel like roelly wrinklin should have been on the list, he has a small waist compair to how wide he is and his joints are small to
Excellent Video as usual & I'm glad you made clear that you were leaning toward the more Apollonian structure. One structural feature I've seen the experts mention over the years (on Forums like Muscle Mayhem, IronAge, MD, ect) probably 2nd only to clavicle width is torso length. In general, guys with longer torsos usually have great abs & better aesthetics but struggle when it comes to complete back development. Almost all the Mr. Olympias have a medium to medium/short torso. I think Rhoden would be the only Mr. Olympia I would consider to have a somewhat long torso..Possibly Dexter; but his torso seems longer from the front than the back although that is a visual observation not based on fact. I think your picks were excellent considering the vast amount to pick from. I never thought about it but a prime Paul Dillett like you showed next to Flex is probably the most impressive bodybuilder ever just standing from the front. I want to add that I consider you in that expert category when it comes to bodybuilding knowledge & assessment.
Interesting observation. Never thought about the connection between torso length and abs/back development before.
@@Tomn8er Thx for the heart. I'm always a little hesitant to add anything that could be construed as a negative but you catch so many things I don't..Like the black guys at the Olympia being at a disadvantage when in front of that black area. You are 100% right & they need to make that thing grey next year. My comments are intended to be in the spirit if you and I were drinking a beer & talking bodybuilding. I don't have an ego when it comes to this stuff but I find it a fun hobby. I went full tilt for 5 years competing but that part of my life is over but I still love bodybuilding & enjoy interacting with knowledgeable people.
Learned new concepts. Very good scholar. Thanks for the presentation
Love your videos man!
Tony Freeman should've definitely been on here
Nice video man. I dug it no ones really made a video like this.
I haven’t seen the full video but if Dennis wolf isn’t top 3 ima lose it
Why don't you make your own video and try to justify it? Good luck!!!
Great Video. Really enjoyed it. Not sure I agreed with some of your Top 1, but that's always gonna be the case - It is so subjective. Thank you for a great topic!
This kind of content never gets old, i can watch all day all of his old to new videos
Paul Dillet is a beast
Well done video. It takes a lot of guts making these videos because of all the differing opinions out there and such but you guys pulled it off. I noticed that as you went along you explained the subtle differences and you gave a very respectful honorable mention list. For example I am a huge Robby Robinson fan and although I think he should have definitely should have made the top 10, you did mention his contribution to the sport. Skeletal structure, aesthetic factors and such are so important. Way too many people out there, particularly in recent times with alll these mass monsters, who do not understand that its not just about size. I'm subscribing, you guys know what you're talking about.
Bro that silhouette at 13:13 says it all. Nobody's perfect though, shame Dillette couldn't put it all together.
I really like the way you explaine and the details that you go to, your way of looking at bodybuilding and bodybuilders is Second To None compared to other UA-camrs! Very impressive!
For me, this is one of the most interesting bodybuilding videos in you tube for a last cuple of months.
never heard of jim haislop ..but my god he looks like a superhero from the comics..PERFECT.
10:19 As an African myself, I understand those calfs will never grow
You gotta be born with them - but that's true for any bodypart. Still, Sergio Oliva, Chris Dickerson and Johnny Fuller have some of the best calves of all time.
Lee Haney must be on here. I’m just starting to watch.
I would’ve put Roelly in there too. While he probably isn’t tall enough, when he hits that front double or front relaxed nowadays with his wide flaring lats and tight waist he looks crazy.
i would have def added big ramy because structurally speaking he is the widest while maintaining a great waistline in comparison to his size
Joel Stubs and Orville Burke for massive frames.. they are just wiiiiiiide! And Toney Freeman was an asthetic freak almost at the level of Dillett. I would say he had a great waist while hovering around 280 ish. Toney was a force.
I gave my ex my "bone structure" last night tom!
Good topic. No one realizes how our bone structure plays a MAJOR roll in our sport, or any sport for that matter.
💪😁👍
Commentator disclaimer before naming top 3; I'm looking for a more "Apollonian" classic physic, think Frank Zane not the mass monsters ...
Goes on to list
2. Ronnie Colman
1. Paul Dillet
Frank zane is to short. But has obviously a crazy structure for His height, should have been in the hounurbale mentions.
I like the thoroughness of your videos!
Cool video :) It must have been a bit hard to pick, but I think you have chosen well :)
I honestly feel like this is the most important features. If you are shaped like a pear, you will only be Able to put so much quality in that frame.
If Phil Heath had a good structure, he would have a good front double, and front lat spread. It also wouldn't hurt to have some width in the rear lat spread as well 👍
He did have a good front double. Just look at him pre-2012ish, like at the 2010 Arnold. It was outrageous.
@@Tomn8er but we all knew that the blow out of the midsection was going to happen eventually, just because of age. There is a reason why Ronnie is criticized way less for the gut. He had a good frame 👍
@@johnathanvale8634 Yeah Ronnie was just so massive and wide that his taper wasnt compromised if he came in bloated
I believe it was one of your videos that once said Dillet’s head was too small for his body, giving him those godly proportions and I’ve never been able to unsee it since then. The only problem with being so tall is how hard it is to fill in that wide back. Dude was almost 300 lbs and had a back as shallow as most gym bro’s.
You’re the best Tom!
great comparison, by great knowledge
i was JUSTabout to say where d fock is big ronne when i saw him in d second spot
and d best choice for first spot, honestly i think due to bone structure ronnie would win, but when i see paul as a shadow, he really is number one
I agree about Paul Dillet, but does anybody remember a guy named Tony Pearson.
If Paul dillet had the work ethic of big Ron then there would actually be competition for the greatest of all time. So much potential on a "lazy" bodybuilder (at least from what I've read and heard). He is still in my top 5 of all time
Agreed. Dillet just looked lazy, not driven and frankly kind of slow up there.
Good list. But if I had a magic lamp with a genie, one of my wishes would be for peak human athleticism and perfect health with the body of Mike Mentzer. Bob Paris would be a close second.
Your videos are great! I am long time weight lifter. My workout partner is a pro bodybuilder and at this point I’m thinking of competing myself Maybe one day I’ll be on one of your videos lol. And like always I think you nailed the countdown right on the money. Thanks for the awesome videos
Appolonian vs Hercules tipe, or tipe like Sharks vs Delphins, Lians vs Horses, lamurgini vs hammer, or estetic vs power. I think todays rule game is that the most domnant figure wins.. so its predators game, its food chain rule. The winner is the man who is on top of the food chain, and for sute its not about beauty, its about power and danger.
I agreed with a few but I'm not as down on a slightly wider waist because it many times accompanies a nice large rib cage which i prefer, ala Jay cutler, Arnold, etc. I do agree with Coleman being one of the top for bone structure as well as other structure
Fully agree with Dillet!
man i gotta put the video on pause at 5:05 and marvel at cedric's physique damn.
He was so aesthetic back in the day. People who complain about his abs now should go back and take a look
remember when you were a kid? and you thought there was a monster underneath your bed?... well you got that right... it was paul dillet!😂🤣😂
Damn -- that Dillet silhouette. You couldn't have drawn that better. A pity he didn't work a little harder on all fronts -- he would have acquired a few Mr. Os if he had done everything else right, IMO.
And Dillet rhymes with silhouette ;)
Paul Dillet vs Predator would have been a great movie..
That silhouette of Paul is just unreal.
Glad u picked fillet ...I think he has one of the most over looked physiques of all time...and I also think he has one of the most jaw dropping phyqisues of all time...just absolutely amazing
That first shot with Franco standing in front shows his right leg in the shape he could have had it in for the 81 Olympia. Ripped and proportionate.
Not to nitpick but maybe you should have shown more pics of an aesthetic ronnie, like 98 or 99 to really get your placing across
The number one pick is spot on and no one will deny it. He was just one of a kind and everybody says he never trained correctly. He had everything coming easily to him. Had he squatted, deadlifted, rowed and dieted properly he would have been a legend.
He was also lazy. Never trained hard. Same old story. Wasted talent/genetic potential. hardest workers have the least talent or genetic potential.
IFBB Thanos has one of the greatest skeletal structures
I think every video you’ve featured Paul Dillet, you always mention his terrible posing, which I completely agree.
I agree with the majority of what you've said, but I think small wrist/ankle joints come with a tradeoff. Small ankles/bones of the lower leg are probably a lot of the reason we're seeing such crappy calves these days. Same goes for forearms, if you look at someone like Dorian Yates or Mike Mentzer, the thicker wrists/lower arm bones definitely helped them develop fuller-looking forearms.
Good video bro!
Paul dillet one of my all time favs
Notice at 2:50 he shows columbo who passed on the thought of expanding the rib cage through deep breathing then pulling weights over your body remember to try almost pop your rib cage then push the weights while slowly breathing out.
Basically the top 10 that I gave you on Instagram 😁
Why did you skip Phil the Gut gift? He is Apollo reborn.
He said why. Too narrow structure.
structurally phil and bonac is at disadvantage, too narrow thus the look weird in front lat spread n front double bi(not wide) . He’s gifted in muscle roundness tho.
Irkkan totally agree, he’s gifted in belly roundness also.
@@Irkkan this is about structure
2:10 I knew Jay was on back in 2009 but holy shit, I’ve never seen this. You could use his legs as a pencil holder with how deep those cuts are
That's the magic of the old Ironman Pro lighting but yeah Jay looked crazy there
This is 2001 or looks to be. And yes, his damn quads had striations even when he was soft everywhere else otherwise. Crazy genetics. Meanwhile some other big names never really had quad striations on-stage.
Gábor Szabó striations on your quads depend on whether or not you bend your knees basically. Phil never showed striations on stage, but he did show striations in other pictures.
@@botanicalabe I really doubt that there's anyone who would choose not to show striations onstage when they actually could. In every comparison of two similar legs a striated one will always come down as better, more conditioned, etc.
Gábor Szabó literally everyone single person can show striations, it’s not some weird thing where if you have the wrong genetics, you can how striations. Ronnie, Phil, Dexter, they never showed striations and they still won the Olympia.
This was a fantastic video. Well conceived, executed, and superbly narrated. I largely agree with most of the opinions expressed within. However, giving only honorable mention to Arnold is baseless. He looked HUGE at 242 pounds and had almost perfect skeletal structure. He had both Apollonian and Herculean qualities. Small joints and hips, yet enormous rib cage, shoulder breadth, and muscles. Arnold was massive yet aesthetic. I met him during the mid-70s. Saw him in street clothes and in the gym. Cold. Pumped. Guest posing. From every angle he was impressive. He dominated every Olympia except 1980. When you say tall guys have an advantage and those blessed with small joints even moreso… you are talking about The Austrian Oak.
You make some good points. 🤔
I agree with dillet in first place, but buchanan deserves second and orville burke third
SERGIO OLIVA HANDS DOWN..RIP MYTH RIP
This was a great video. Thank you Tom.
But can anybody tell me. WTH happened to Lionel Beyeke? Guy fell off the map.
I met Paul Dillet in 1999 at Gold's gym in Las Vegas.. Super nice guy!!!
The list is subjective obviously but to me Ronnie should be in 4th , Sergio in 3rd and Haney in 2nd.
The simple reason is that Ronnie , contrary to popular belief , was not very wide in the clavicles, not as wide as Sergio or Haney at least. You can really see it when he stands truly relaxed or in certain poses or transitions.
Also one of Ronnie's least noticed flaws-lack of a deep rib cage, something Sergio and Haney even more so had in spades over him.Haney was also one inch taller than him.
Thats whyhe never managed to kill the front lat spread .You can also see it in the side relaxed poses or the side chest shot where only his insane mass and muscle bellies save him( his execution of the pose is quite poor).
Here is a pic from the 2000 Mr Olympia prejudging, from the symmetry round
body.builder.hu/imagebank/pictures/980688167.jpg
Ronnie was 263 lb and Levrone 244 lb but you'd never know Ronnie had 20 lb on him, notice how he lacks that deep ribcage.
I have no problem with that order at all. But it has to be said Ronnie DID kill in the FLS earlier on at the beginning of his reign (i.e. 97-99)
@@Tomn8er he looked good in it but he didnt destroy people in it like Sergio, Haney or Yates. In 98 at his best he lost the FLS to Nasser ...
Amazing video, very interesting subject to talk about in terms of bodybuilding stuff!
ben pulaski should be on this list imo
abdelrhman nagy good call, he’s huge structurally especially 2012/2013 period.
The concept is really unique in the video
Shocked that Brian Buchanan didn't make your top 10, I would have had him at no 2
Chris Bumstead Classic Physique Mr O, should be in the list!
Markus Ruhl, yeah he was a mass monster but so was Paul Dillet.
For me I have to put Sergio Olivia at number one, like u said the humorous length and the waist
It's very hard to say before looking at the video, my gut says Flex Wheeler has close to the perfect skeletal structure, and Paul Dillet is a version of that but than bigger. It's hard to say who else, Arnold probably.
Flex wheeler was actually a bit narrow shouldered, but like Phil Heath he put on such gigantic sized muscles that his actual structure was hidden. Muscle shape and fullness goes to guys like Flex and Phil, but both were structurally poor. Phil especially. In a lineup from a distance he looked terrible.
Dude you should for sure do more promo type outro's for Lister suchs as this. Makes me wanting to watch more. 👌🏽
