Arnold's pecs have their own zip code
Next stop... Boobieville!!!
@Andrea Stelle you have girlfriends
Except for abs and triceps, Ronnie is gonna be top 5 for every list I bet.
Moe's Calves too
Maybe Forearms?
Off hook Good but overpowered by his upper arm. I’d toss a coin to say something about his forearms.
I'd agree but I never found his physique very aesthetic.
Scrotie McBoogerBalls Did anyone?
It's crazy how Ronnie is legitimately and strongly in discussion for any "greatest" list of any body part (except maybe calves and midsection). Ronnie truly is the greatest bodybuilder ever. It ain't nothin' but a peanut for him.
Also tricep and forearms
Arnold is the greatest bodybuilder ever. Not Ronnie
I wonder if Arnold became the standard because he won. There are many shapes of chest. But maybe his movie outings created the impression that his chest was.....the chest.
@@maxwellmaragia2272 Based on what exactly? Don't get me wrong Arnold is one of the greatest ever but Ronnie's credentials are more impressive and to this day has brought physiques beyond anything we have ever seen in the past or since. His combination of size, shape and conditioning is unmatched.
@@murozman Greatness is not based on size shape or conditioning alone, other things count like influence, how you make the sport more popular, how many bodybuilders look up to you for inspiration, how famous you are e.t.c, on only bodybuilding perspective I would say they are equal in regards to the eras they were in, heck am sure even you would hate to look like R.Coleman but wouldn't have a problem looking like Arnie or golden era bodybuilders. In regards to the other things Arnold is clear of anyone by a mile. Even my mom who isn't a bodybuilding fan knows Arnold and hates the ugly grotesque bodies of modern body builders like Ronnie after I showed her video.
Serge's pecs look like they were surgically inserted. It's crazy how aesthetic they look.
Yes, he didn't look real, like a fantasy plastic figurine.
ua-cam.com/video/lgUyAX3MSrQ/v-deo.html look at that he is the 2 best chest of the world easy
Serge Nubret is the most aesthetic bodybuilder of all time IMO.
@@rickbrenner6079 i agree. A lot of people would say it's frank zane, but serge was more aesthetic for me. Zane was kinda too skinny for my liking..
The reality is guys have bigger chests now. They're just way leaner so the chest deflates in appearance. If arnold went down to 4 percent bodyfat he wouldn't look as huge. He's around 9 to 10 percent
Props for including Bertil Fox. Dude was waaaaaaaay ahead of his time. He sported massive 22" biceps, insane delts and chest and had striations everywhere. He was 5'8" (claimed 5'10") and weighed 260 pounds in the offseason and was one of the strongest bodybuilders of his time, along with the mighty Casey Viator.
If a 5’8 guy is saying he’s 5’10 jus give it to him man y u gotta say “he claimed to b 5’10” lol u a whole bitch for that😂
I'll say AMEN to that Arnold did have the best chest !!!
While I'm impressed with the size and mass of latter day BB, I find myself liking the golden era physique.
Happy to see Lee Haney in here, i feel like alot of people don´t realize what a tremendous bodybuilder he was. Until Dorian Yates appeared on the olympia stage no one could get any where near him, and he was a modest man who never developed an over inflated ego, a great representative for the sport.
Well said
? He's always on the lists I think his name is not at all forgotten and he's named in every Marx max muscle video I've ever seen
I saw calum von moger balancing a bottle on his chest then we dont need to find Arnolds pic
Yup i agree
Andrew jacked did that too
@@sekwanelesekwa3882 I was about to see the same thing.
Von Moger can’t carry Arnold’s lunch box. That’s a joke!
yeah but he lacks in so much more stuff.. I mean the drugs this guy takes is literally 40 years more advanced and he still cant even compete in this list.. All though he looks damn good. he is just too goddamn veiny looking (in a bad way) His biceps have like.. weird blown out veins.. I do not like that. lol
Arnold and Franco kind of had that separation between their upper and lower pecs as seen some of last pictures of Arnold, it could be because the way they trained their chest as they both trained together and it's much pronounced in Franco because he was definitely stronger and trained heavier
Franco's upper chest almost made his lower pecs a "weak point"! Ha ha ha... I wish I had such weak point as his!
that ronnie farmer walk pic with jay haahah i love it thanks for posting this lol never saw it
Once again Tom you've got the order spot on. Looking forward to the remaining videos 👍
Is it possible the golden era guys dominate chest because they had the small trim waists so their chests looked that much larger really popping out from the bodies instead of having a belly that pushed out as far as a chest 🤷♂️
I think you have a point but the key might be the size of the shoulders: Check out Flex Wheelers pecs compared to his shoulders then check out Arnold or Serge or Lou...
Cheers.
nightman you also make a good point. Some guys shoulders almost look bigger than their pecs!
Size wise arnold smoke s them in chest
@@amaanshaikh6868 when Arnold goes to the size yeah his chest is huge but his ribcage is so big and his stomach flat as anything his chest just seems to like like it’s 2 feet out from his body! It’s insane just phenomenal
I want to see top ten calves!
Noah A this is gonna sound dumb but I like Frank Zane and Bob Paris’ calves. They’re not huge but the lines and the proportions of them are just flawless.
@@Primathys It does not sound dumb. Oversized calves looks unaesthetic and animal-like. It's all about balance and quality over quantity.
mike matarazzo’s, dorian’s and ben pakulski’s imo
@@victormattar2199 Don't forget Nasser and JP Fux. They had killer calves as well. And of course Jay Cutler, who was probably the only mass monster, who's calves matched their leg development in size and quality. Dorian's calves were much better than his odd quads and Ronnie had slightly worse calves compared to his crazy thighs. Jay had it in balance, I guess I would put him really high if we go by this criteria.
Gábor Szabó good points made sir
Thanks Tom! Such a bad ass video love your analysis ..would argue your list . What an epic list and a tough task for you but so worth it .. Arnold’s pecs are just still mind blowing to this day
Franco is sometimes called "The man with 2 chests". I still go with Arnold as number 1.
Were the chests bigger or were the other bodyparts smaller, making the chests look bigger?
More the latter. The modern guys chests are bigger no question
the delts were much smaller prior to the late 80s/early 90s
the waists were much smaller
they also hit the side chest pose very differently, todays side chest looks like a side most muscular in many cases, including Ronnies
The guts and lats are so enormous and freaky now the chest looks smaller. Arnold and Lee are still the greatests.
Arnolds chest is still untouched
@@Tomn8er I notice that the old school BB even in the 90's like levrone, Dorian,Lee priest,eg.nearly fully locked out on presses then in the 2000 came this little half rep phase constant tension they claim
No one will ever surpass Arnold whole body in beauty ...in bodybuilding Ever
Dam Tom! You are on a roll with these videos!
Great effort and such a packed list! I honestly was expecting to see Phil Heath somewhere in that list. I think his side chest pose is one of the greatest ever.
Great video Tom. Man, Bertil’s chest looks insane in that front lat spread.
Serge nebret had the best looking chest I've seen pictures striated AF and upper chest jumping off the collarbone when relaxed
He had no upper chest? His chest is amazing for sure.. but the top of his chest was not developed as much as arnies obviously.
@@skateurself jump on Google images his upper chest was chiseled no weak points there a pics where it looks like that but especially the coloured pics his upper and inner chest is ripped even some side by sides with arnie
Serge nubret: best chest.
2:23 he looks like Tom Cruise-
Well thought out and descriptive. And can't argue with the placings.
So many good chests this one will be a close race! Thanks Tom love the top 10’s from your view!
I trained chest many times with Fox. His chest workout varied little throughout the years, whether in season or out. And I remember in the foyer of the Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park, London a couple of hours before the NABBA Universe, we were talking to Serge and Jacqueline Nubret, Serge was wearing a Navy Blue blazer over a White, turtle neck sweater and tan slax. I kid you not, his abs were sharply visible through the sweater. You know how they move as he breathes and you can see that membrane across the two columns of ab segments? I could see that too, right through the sweater.
What was his chest workout usually?
@@jdamsel8212 - Flat DB press, about 5-6 sets, resting only with his upper back on the end of a bench, two guys passing the bells. the maximum at Del's gym was 180's and he pissed them no problem. Moved onto flat bench press up to about 550, perhaps a bit more for 6 sets total. He usually finished those with a couple of drop sets - two guys removing the plates. Then weighted dips supersetted with DB flyes for 5 super-sets. Sometimes he did incline presses. He always had a distinctive, powerful, piston sort of action with his presses, in chest or shoulder presses, that gave you the feeling the weight would fly out of his hands if he wasn't holding them tight. I was never with him in the States, but looking at videos I can see he mostly stuck with that.

Hi Tom, im one of your fan. You videos have always provided top quality content and i always appreciate your hard work put in each videos.
I have one suggestion that you should cover “the most complete bodybuilders” count down from 10 (or how many as depending on your opinion). I have searched the youtube and it has already “the most aesthetic which mainly is about the overall shape” “the biggest - mainly about size” “the greatest - about their impact and achievements”. What i mean by the most complete is i think this will be a suitable sequel after the series of body parts to see who have the most complete physics which mean have all the strong body parts. For example big ron is great in every body part but for his mid section, calves and triceps or phil is not known for his mid section and narrow structure. What i mean is that a bodybuilder that have no or least weak body parts and it should come in size, shape, developments, aesthetics, should to waist ratio, .... i had this idea in mind for a quite long time but my resource, time and knowledge wont let me do this topic perfectly and i think you are the one who is best suit for this one. Hope my comment and idea catch your attention. Many thanks!!!
Nam Vuong Shawn ray. He was almost flawless.
man that body on Serge Nubret was truly a sight to behold, it is a very envious body
great video, thanks tom
Top 10 forarms
I Know Sergio Oliva / Lee Priest / Frank Mc
But it would be awesome to see a comparison over the ages done by the one and only Tomn8er
Phil heath
@@jayx2514 Mike Mentzer
@@nighthawkjac19 didn't he get a mention
Might of been another video.but yeah
Those guys from the golden era were racing in order to get to the chest bench first!! Thanks for the video!
Serge Nubret should have been near the top.
Arnold in his bodybuilding encyclopedia book, said that Nubret had one of the best and most complete upper and lower chest he has seen.
Excellent video, nice presentation!
I wonder how Arnold would look on today’s Anabolic Chicken 🐔💪
Ronnie said Arnold would /by far/ be the greatest bodybuilder ever if he had today's gear, training and nutrition.
Loose all His aesthetics.
Not that great imo
Best content on bid by far
Arnold just looked heroic. His small waist was amazing too.
Excellent vid bro
I'm not a big fan of Arnold, but I have to agree he's #1 with his chest (best bodypart). Glad you're recognizing Golden Era.
Great video Tom. Next time I would love to see top 10 forearm in the history
Excellent list. My order would be diff but the candidates all are the best of the chest. Love how u point out Haneys upper pecs in the most muscular. Hes my # 1 pick. Also kudos 4 picking Callender. Underrated.
Bertil was freaky big and defined! One might say he... murdered the competition? Anyone? lol
Dude...too soon /s
Lmaooo
@@nealkelly9757 Too soon? That was a couple decades ago.
Ahh the internet, what a lovely place
He had a...killer set of pectorals :D
This makes me really want to improve my chest and once my gym re opens I will focus on it much more.
Samir also deserves an honorable mention
The Sherminator can be so harsh: “Lou Ferrigno’s chest could be thicker for his size”, really? It’s so friggin thick it’s unreal, ESPECIALLY at that height!
True and he's got that crazy square shape
Out of all the actors who got a movie roll portraying hercules Lou and Reg Park had the best physiques for that roll. They had that powerful muscular look and were as strong as they looked i also reckon Bill Kazmaier would fit that role just as well.
You are spot on!!!
Obviously he didn't compete at the Olympia but Victor Richards definitely deserves an honourable mention. His chest was just insanely thick.
good series tom.
Very cool and informative video.
Great list. I agree with all these entries. Wondering what you think of Nimrod King as an honorable mention.
Thanks. I completely forgot about that guy but after a quick google search, no, his chest is thick but too small
Agree with your assessment that the Golden era was the best era for pecs! Current crop is all delts and arms.
Shawn rays symmetry was on point! Random but damn his v taper was arguably top 5 in body building.
I totally agree with your list my friend👍
Man your voice is so soothing
A lot of the old school guys did exercises that lifted the rib cage. They literally called it rib cage expansion exercises. I come from more of the old school era and I did these exercises on chest day and they worked very well. This could be why most of the top 10 were from the golden age......just a guess.
Steve Reeves. Nobody had that square look like him.
Reeves retired in 1950, nobody used steroids in the 1940's for sports. Steve was 100% natty, to think otherwise shows a lack of historical and medical knowledge.
@@tence_6965 Please provide proof of this statement; otherwise, you're a liar.
16:18 look at the triceps and everyone criticize him for having weak triceps
Compared to his biceps it is weak
The first muscle mag I ever bought featured a chest training routine by Roy Callender. This is when I was first looking in to bodybuilding.
Hey Tom, your thoughts on Kal Szkalak. In my opinion, one of the greatest pecs in the sport. As far as Lou Ferrigno goes, I would have shown pictures of him at the 94' Masters Olympia when he made his return to bodybuilding. He put on over 35 pounds more weight than he had in the 70's and he was cut to boot. His chest was flawless.
Franco has my fav chest of all time. That split is just epic.
Agree 100% with your number one.
The Golden Era guys have a better chest because at the time their shoulders and everything else was relatively small to the chest, it was the focal point and this can be attributed to the view of what was masculine at the time. People with broad thick chests and big arms were seen as more manly and powerful, nowadays we don't have the same view and everything else is just as big guys focus more on back and legs.
I hope to see Rühl here
Yay!!!!
Fully agree. Arnold in numero uno in chest. Awesome video.
Bertil Fox is gonna be in your best triceps too. No question.
I really cannot argue with any choice on this list
I hope u make top ten calves in bodybuilding history..
Anyone notice how modern day bodybuilders have small chests and big shoulders? Should be the other way around. Shoulders big enough to not overtake the chests.
i think its an illusion, actually. before, the delts were way smaller, so the chest was the clear focus. today, the chest is probably bigger than was before, but the way bigger delts create an illusion that the chest isnt that big/thick.
X
Again bodybuilding is about the proportions. And most guys today don’t have that wide rib cage or fullness. Ya lots of Olympians have great chests. But the Olympia lineup is 1% of bodybuilders out there. I’ve been to multiple shows and nobody has a pronounced chest anymore
@@heavymetalfitness2091 well, thats probably because of the priorities today. guys are more interested in having boulder shoulders and huge wheels than big pecs and arms
@@heavymetalfitness2091 priorities that the judges lead, cause its way important to have a good placing in a show having big delts instead of big pecs
noit shouldnt be the other way around
you are very ignorant as always
the delts are a LARGER body part than the chest, even the triceps are larger muscle
www.researchgate.net/publication/318940260_Large_and_small_muscles_in_resistance_training_is_it_time_for_a_better_definition
Serge looked the best. Full chest. Skinny waist. Huge arms and shoulders. Muscular full thighs that werent to big.
I have a barrel chest, unfortunately I'm also lankey so there's a large gap between the bottom of my pecs and the bottom of my rib cage. Wish I could fill that space inbetween up, Arnold's pecs even seem to dip below his rib cage at times! Am I screwed or will focusing on lower pec development help?
Good list.
Yo! Speaking from my last comment, you should do a top 10 waist in body building.
I could see Buchanan, Dillet, Ronnie and Flex making the list
@@ohmy9261 flex had amazing shoulder to waist ratio.
I would have liked to see Gunther Schlirkampf, but great vid!
13:00
Denzil Washington
good list
Gunter Schlierkamp deserves at least a mention if not a spot on the list, he had amazing shape and proportions for his era and he was near 300 lbs on stage
Bro, serious question ! What do you know ‘bout that upper chest shelf ?
Good God the 3 Dimensionality of Phil Heath's physique in the very first line up of this video, no wonder he's called "The Gift"!!!
#3 didn’t know denzal was a bodybuilder in his hay day 😝
Maybe it has to do with what you said about the new gens shoulders? Maybe there size specifically the front delt is dominating a lot of the pressing moves that are done for chest?
Great Video!
Another great vid, i would have Franco @ number 2, check out his upper pecs
2:20 for a solid second I was like Tom Cruise?!?!?!
Ronnie has the most juggernaut beasty looking sidechest. He is the number one in my opinion.
How did markus get that gap in the middle? I mean it was connected what happened? Mine also has a gap in the middle and I dont know if it's because I injured it once doing dips I heard a crack
mike katz had good pec development during the golden era
This list deserves revisiting... especially the top 3. RC far out-stripes AS.
Incorporeal Matter this is his opinion don’t forget. No need to revisit
sharp observation agree all
It’s crazy how pecs were so important and key back in the 70’s/80’s then after that most bodybuilders had mediocre pecs. It’s a shame
They dont have mediocre pecs. It just that they became so much bigger that it redefines the entire proportions of the body. Dont expect someone to have a chest as prominant as Arnold while being 300lbs
This is only my opinion, but I think the chest looked better many years ago because the bodybuilders now have ridiculous boulders as shoulders which take away some of the appearance of the chest.
Bodybuilders of old are much more pleasing to view. I hate the bubble gut mass monsters
Bodybuilding has saved itself by creating a Classic Physique class.
Arnie had insane chest genetics
Chest and biceps
so your into league, and workout videos.
There's a b&w photo of Serge Nubret on page 282 of Arnold's Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding 1st edition, where his pecs are shredded. There are others just can't recall where.
I would place Serge much higher, but i have to agree with your argument.
I agree with all of this.. I actually didn't think arnold had striations but.. from these pictures.. in most muscular he does ! So he has the striations..he has the size.. and when he is relaxed he has the shiny not-veiny-creepy chest stuff going on there... the bottom of his pects are perfect.. not drooping.. and when he hits side chest.. he is one of maybe only 2-3 on this that hits it as good as them but I would say.. just a bitttt better.. and his upper chest un like 8 of these people.. was more developed. I agree. I cant find any problem with his chest.. Its smooth when it needs to be.. striated when it chooses to be.. and huge when well.. it wants to be. haha
Tom if you're reading this, you're a good writer.
Francos gyno was sometimes pretty obvious though..
Gary Strydom’s shoulder development was so over the top his chest doesn’t stand out as a top ten body part. You need to check yourself if Strydom’s Delts did not make your top ten.
I agree with most of that list bro, but I deffinetly would have had branch make that list even top 5, he had such a rock hard, muscular and vascular chest and that real granite look and they were thick and large.
Agreed with your list here but for me John Brown should be on this list too
The tomn8er lol
