I've only encountered rip currents once in my life and that was at myrtle beach. I was young 7 maybe? and I went from shallow waters to being swept out to the sea and would have smashed into the pier if my cousin hadn't been a strong swimmer. I still have nightmares about it over 30 years later...

I always want to see what I am swimming with. I have leg issues so pools are my choice. With my disabilities I would be safer in a pool.

It happens so often at beaches here in Australia. Our rips are deadly. I was caught in one once, but because it is a common thing at our beaches, I learnt extremely young what to do. I did exactly the same as what you said in this video. I laid on my back as to not exhaust myself and went with it, then when safe slowly floated toward shallow water. I ended up about 300m down the beach and a few cuts and scrapes, but it's better than not making it at all.

We’ve been dealing with these at Lake Erie. I’m scared to go to even guarded beaches it only takes one sneaky wave. It’s good to know to float at least.

I know someone who broke his neck in a rip current- he got out, but in very bad shape! Salisbury Ma

Recently had a front end car collision with airbags going off; now in the hospital barely able to lift my legs ; doctors told me I have fractures to pelvis and spine. I can wiggle and feel throughout my entire body. how many weeks until I’m able to walk again?
