  • 2 years ago I made a copper shower head (link below) for our bathroom. Our bathroom is all about copper, white tile, dark wood colors. In this video I make a towl rack in copper connected to the radiator hot water system, to match the copper shower head. I´m not going into detail about how to connect it to the water system, different standards and rules in different countries.
    I hope you enjoy the video. Please like, comment and subscribe.

    Pretty clever idea. I am thinking i might tap into the hot line before it goes to the shower. That way it only heats up when i am using my shower. Thanks for the videos, I've been enjoying them.

    Nice work. You have inspired me to build something like this for my hot tub for the winter months. Closed loop after heater.
    Type L pipe or M? Did you consider swaging your unions?

      No. That's will only provide about 80/100watts.
      You need about 450watts for your bathroom.

    I was thinking about doing this with galvanized pipes. Wife and I doing that "industrial" look.

      Don't use galv. It'll break down internally over time and contaminate (not just meaning "poison") your heating system and leak. Worst kind of leak too... you won't see a y signs until it goes.
      Best option if wanting a steel look over copper is to shroud the copper pipe with malleable iron. For better thermal efficiency you can fill the space around the copper with Chinchilla sand or another super fine sand. A more expensive option would be forge fleece. 👍

      It’s called a copper pipe bender. Check at the plumbing section in your local hardware store.

      Thank you Kevin! The water lines are connected to the hot water for the radiators. It will both make the towels dry faster and heat up the bathroom some.

      Radiators? You must live up north?!? We don’t have those down in Texas!
      I wonder if simply running 125° hot water through the copper pipes will be enough to at least heat the towels up.
      I have central heat so I’m not looking to heat the bathroom.
      Thanks for your reply!!

      Lol, ya I would say so!!!!
      They’re just the hot water lines coming from my water heater to the restroom.
      I know that copper lines with hot water in them will get too hot to even touch.

      What is that little white valve you installed? some type of solenoid to open up the water to the unit?
      And is it hot water that runs through the lines?
      Hope you’re OK with all these questions!

    If it's connected to your hydronic heating system which is probably running at 180°F or higher, how do you keep it from getting so hot it can burn you? I thought about putting some sort of insulation around the pipes, or put the copper pipe inside an iron pipe. This is sweet though. Now just hope a plumbing inspector never sees this 😉

    • @GCustoms
      @GCustoms  3 роки тому

      I have a termonstat connected to it. Just like any other radiator.

    • @wiredforstereo
      @wiredforstereo 3 роки тому +2

      Even if it were 180 degrees (which it isn't) hot metal will not burn you the same as hot water will at the same temperature. It's all out specific heat of the material. You could hold your hand on a pipe for several seconds at a temperature that would burn you almost instantly if you stuck your hand in water at the same temperature. Most houses that have copper piping, it is uninsulated.

      @@zekevictor Also, conduction and radiation, forgot that. That's why radiators and heat sinks are made in certain ways, in an Air conditioner, it's usually copper tubes (which conduct heat well) and aluminum fins (which radiate heat well).
