You are doing a great job!! Hostas are very forgiving, so don’t worry about how you divide them! I would suggest that you always read the tags that are on the plants before purchasing, know the zone that you live it, etc. Also remove the tags from the plants and keep them for further reference. As gardeners we all make mistakes, things die, or need to be moved. It is all part of the process! Enjoy!!😊
Thank you for all the advice!! I have started keeping all the little tags and labels so I can reference them the next year! It sure is a learning process :)
Great job. I hope you show us the yard throughout the summer. It would be fun to watch it progress. Also, your shrubs are Emerald Green Arbor-vi-tee. The "i" is long like eyeball. It is a family of shrubs that include several varieties.
Hello Annie, I wanted to let you know that there is no need to remove old mulch, it will soften and enrich your clay soil thru the years. Just add 2 to 3” of new mulch each year when you finish your planting each year.
Thank you for that info! I actually never was sure if it was actually necessary or not. But my mulch gets so full of acorns and tree debris, and if I pile new mulch on top of the old, it starts to overflow where I don't want it to be. I feel like I can't really avoid it :/
Great job! I know gardening can seem kind of daunting, it’s a lot of elbow greese and hard work! But it’s super satisfying everytime you walk outside or pull up to your home, just knowing that you DID THAT and it was hard work, but you got it done!
Thank you!!! Yesss, that's exactly how I am finally starting to feel! Its so satisfying to see your work pay off, and when you do it yourself I think you just appreciate it that much more!
Annie! Everything looks so good! I love the variety you chose. I can't wait to see the tulips next Spring. I've always heard hostas are very hardy. My dad use to share them with me and he would just cut in to them with his knife. You are going to have a beautiful yard to walk around and admire.
Hmmm I hope not lol. There’s like nearly a foot or so between the ends of the branches and the house. They’re still alive and kicking. It may prevent them from growing very tall though?
lol I'm constantly struggling with wanting nice nails but also wanting to stick my hands in the dirt. Sometimes I wear gloves but they just get uncomfortable to me.
I laughed so hard when you tried to pronounce the name. That made my night!
I am impressed by all the work you have done in your garden, the result is superb, well done.
Your tulips bloomed! Great job.

I'm so happy for you that your tulip survived that big move 😊
Thank you, me too!

Hello 👋🏼 im new here. Watching from Ohio 👍
Hey girl!! Thank you so much for watching!! Love to meet other Midwestern gals!! (I live in PA, am originally from MI) 💖💖
I literally just LOL at you trying to pronounce the name of the plant...I have no idea how to say that either!
Nice job. Just trim alittle off the top of your big bushes
Thank you! Yes, I def plan on doing that after they're done blooming.
May I ask why you left the Emersld Greens in the pot?
The arborvitae trees? I didn't leave them in the pots - they all got pulled out and planted into the ground. :)
Smaragd is Emerald in German S M A (as in Arm) R-A (as in Ramen) G D ... :D
Hahaha thank you!! My two years of German in college obviously didn't pay off lol
Hostas are the easiest to divide just get a knife divide what you want.
Aren’t those arborvitae too close to the house?
Hmmm I hope not lol. There’s like nearly a foot or so between the ends of the branches and the house. They’re still alive and kicking. It may prevent them from growing very tall though?
Tip..
Instead of pulling up and out
Lay trees on their side and pull them out. Little effort. Same applies w heavy trash bags out of cans. Etc...
Good to know - thanks for sharing!! :)
