reading is one of my absolute favourite things to do - whether to relax, feel inspired, learn something new, entertain myself, or activate an overactive mind. still, i was kind of surprised to realise i've actually read 80 books a year. that's a lot. and since you guys always ask me to talk more about novels and reading, i thought it might be cool to make a video all about how and when i read, and what my reading routine looks like.
and let me know if you want me to make more book videos!
what are your favourite books btw? give me your best tips!
i talk about:
- reading 80 books a year
- how to read books - you're doing it wrong ?
- audiobooks / novels / non-fiction / short stories
- reading to wind down / learn / be inspired
- books vs. social media ?
- reading while working out
- learning about people & the world through books
- audiobooks when cleaning / doing make up / at the gym / on a date
- champagney saturday afternoon + david + a good book = the ultimate combo
- reading out loud for each other ?
- reading many books at once ?
- listening vs. reading ?
- the fast vs the slow reader ?
- reading as meditation
- documenting my reading
- am i a total book geek
- the reading to do list

I love it when creators enter into the booktube realm every now and again
me too :) what people read says so much about them right ? xx
Jenny Mustard I couldn’t agree more. Beautiful video as always Jenny.
@@JennyMustard Read The Gambler by Dostevsky
@@JennyMustard Look up Clive James poetry
I also love when my favourite youtubers comment on the video of another of my favourite youtubers :D ♥
15 books at once?! wow! also when she said “its like watching a tv series all the way through all 7 seasons without watching anything else” yep thats me! 😂😂😂
Me too 😅
saaaaame hahaha
same! one or two shows tops! 😅
I would love to see more videos regarding books , however the big question is : “ How do you manage not to feel overwhelmed and get rid of the feeling of missing out? So many books out here, When I read a book it offen happens that I catch my mind wondering: “did I choose the best book, to read? Etc “ hope you get the idea....
Hahah I'm also like that...a perfectionist 🙄 It ruins my life!
Just try to understand that of course you did not choose the best book nor is that the point of reading, but in each book you will find out something helpful that you did not know before :-)
If you enjoy the book, enjoy it with your heart and try not to think about the mark you'll give it. I try not to read best sellers, they are usually overrated.
Once I could never put a book down until I finished it. Nowadays, if I don't enjoy it too much, I skip to the last chapter and read the end.
Life's too short. Read only what you enjoy.
I used to be OCD like this and realized it doesn't matter. You're not going to be on your deathbed saying "Damn I wish I read that book that one time."
I know exactly what you mean, but think about it like this. Imagine you are given an amazing, scrumptious chocolate cake, one of the best that you have EVER eaten. Would you spend the time eating it wondering if you have chosen the best dessert, or if it is really worth it when there are so many other desserts out there?? No. You don't. You simply enjoy the delicious taste and texture of the cake and enjoy it for what it is. This should be the same when you are reading a book. If you find your mind wandering, then it isn't a good enough book!
I'm the same, but with films.
Yes promoting reading queen! That's such a good influence on your audience, I love it. Also, you look amazing.
Finally someone who understands reading many books at once!
More books video, please. I would like to see your lists, your rankings etc. The choice of next read, that is not going to be waist of time, is overwhelming so suggestions and recommendation are very welcomed. And I agree with you, I usually have 3 books on the go, that's my sweet spot.😊
wooow that’s so impressive!! i remember I loved reading so much just a couple of years ago (I’m talking about reading 2-6 books a week) and now I’ve kind of fallen out of it! but I really really miss it! so thank you so much for this video! this was actually so helpful :)
I would recommend Haruki Murakami as an author. I really love his style of writing. My favorite book of his is “after dark”!
I love reading multiple books at once too. Another beautiful video from Jenny, the aesthetics are so on point.
I loved the tips! I never thought reading 15 books at once was actually this easy, but the tv show analogy makes so much sense
“My world would be so incredibly small without the books I’ve read.” - wow I love this and it’s true for me too!
A true classic by Gabriel García Marquez: Love in the time of cholera. His writing style is called magical realism. If you haven't read it yet, I strongly recommend!
Highly recommended
Elena Garro invented that style, or genre, really interesting :)
Wao XD Latin guys are really famous even away from America
Also "Cien años de Soledad" is fantastic - although is not for everyone - I really enjoyed it! :)
This video was so refreshing - such a great start to my morning! Please do more videos on current books that you are reading Jenny!
this came at a perfect time! been trying to fit more books into my life. it’s been hard to find the motivation.
Same...I found it difficult to read a motivational book :D Try "30-day challenge to reprogram your mind and change your life"? (marble looking cover by Dagmara Monroe). We got it from our boss at the beginning of the quarantine and it seems to be very effective. Best of luck!
Reading is really easy when you pick a book about something you're passionate about or just a good story that makes you happy and excited. Try this and you're gonna start reading for pleasure.
Give Goodreads another try, Jenny so we can see what you're reading! It's a lot of fun.
I wish I could read more books at once but many of mine are from the library so the clock is (unfortunately) ticking.
Jenny, you have the most beautiful copy of Jane Eyre ❤️
@@isabelherrera8647 I wondered that too and did some Google Fu. It's an edition by Chiltern Classic.
@@isabelherrera8647 It's Chiltern Publishing. You can find it online at the bookshop of blackwells. London.
I really love this video! I've never thought about thinking about reading books the way you'd watch tv shows. I love that tip, thank you!
I'm glad you touched on non-fiction. I've struggled to get back into reading for a long time, but studying/absorbing books on sewing has really helped me relax, and also I have improved my existing skills. Great video, thank you xx
This video is so refreshing and different to the booktube I am used to. Instead of just giving us an endless list of books you like, you collected all these tips and tricks for finding our own way to enjoy reading. I honestly really appreciate this, and hope you will keep up the reading content, since I am trying to get back into reading and this helps a lot 🖤
this was some good reading advice that i'd never considered before, great video!
Yes, please, more book content!
I love using Goodreads, for one, cause it gives me all of the lists you mentioned, and presents them in visual way with the covers, which I really enjoy.
This was a great video! I thought me reading different books at the same time was sloppy and disorganized, this video just validated that it's actually a good thing :)
Must read: a classic one "A room of one's own", Virginia Woolf and a genius one 1Q84, Murakami Haruki, enioy!
sara maria barbaglia thank you! Your suggestions went straight to my reading list :)
This is so perfect! Yesterday I looked up “Jenny mustard books” and didn’t find anything... later you upload this!✨😚
What a gorgeous edition of my favourite book Jane Eyre. 👍😊
This was great! (And I read multiple books at once as well, it's the best) Love from an Australian librarian X
Oh my god, this is such a helpful and lovely video as well Jenny! The part I loved the most was when you mentioned lists because, seriously, lists are some kind of motivator to me. What makes them special is that I have a beautiful notebook dedicated only to them; first, there’s my already-read books which gives me a sensation of achievement that no other activity gives me, and then there’s my to-read books, which makes me feel so excited as there’s a great variety of novels authors, places, lives, stories I want to dive into. I guess everything about books just make me feel so fulfilled in general.
And, finally, I think you said the exact reasons of why one reads so much -not because we want to be smarter, or just spend our time doing something different, absolutely no. We read because it offers us some kind of lighting into ourselves, the world and the people out there.
P. D. A new book from a Mexican author arrived like a month ago at libraries in the UK, it’s titled Hurricane Season, you should give it a go!
Love listening to audiobooks for learning new things, and yes I use good reads to keep track... when I can remember to! Although I never clock audiobooks as "real books" in my brain! I recently fell back in love with reading, it's been way too long of a break! So easy to get lost in everyday life ✨ Fantastic tips, thanks!
Loved this video I’m currently reading The Radium Girls and I’m enjoying it. Also I swear by Goodreads! Would love to see more of your videos about books / reading 😊
So many good tips! I saw Elizabeth is Missing was on your list for books reading and I adored that book!
I also read many books at once, according to my mood. Great video and pleaseee make more videos about books! ♥️
This is a list of some of my favourite novels/books* or ones that for whatever reason intrigued me:
The Vegetarian - Han Kang
1Q84 - Haruki Murakami *
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage - Haruki Murakami *
Homegoing - Yaa Gyasi *
Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything - Joshua Foer *
Queenie - Candice Carty-Williams
Gigi and The Cat - Colette
The Pisces - Melissa Broder
The Lesser Bohemians - Eimear McBride *
Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier *
Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr *
I love goodreads to keep track of what I am reading and want to read but also get a lot of inspiration from others!
this came at a perfect time, trying to read more during quarantine! also my work started a book club and that has been a big motivator in making me read (:
I love GoodReads. It keeps me organized and it's nice to look back at what I've read, and the analytics are calculated for me! 🤍
I started reading books again in the evening!! Thanks for the motivation. 😊
always so inspiring! so helpful!!
Oh, the Chiltern Publishing Classics (like your Jane Eyre) are so beautiful 😍 amazing Tipps Jenny! Thank you so much for doing this video and encouraging people to read ❤
needed something like this right now
I love Good Reads. I've been using it for well over 5 years. I like how I tracks what I've read, how long it took me and how many each month without any effort. I also keep a list in my journal just because I love lists. Now I'm thinking of making a Google doc of 'to read' books and their categories after you've mentioned it!
Yay for more book related videos. I use Goodreads, not absolutely in love with it, but didn’t find a better one yet.
This was so beautifully explained. Thank you 🥰 you've definitely inspired me to read more 😄
Wow...perfect timing...really impressed and video also so meticulously done ✅
Thank you so much for these great advices!
Great video! Thanks for all of the tips. Loved all of the content and information you had in this video. Keep it up!!
i am suuuuch a list-geek too. i just started becoming more of a reader after YEARS of trying to get my brain to get into it, and it brought me such a sense of accomplishment and excitement to start those lists. thank you for these tips!
I love your reasons to read many different books at once.. I do that as well all the time and people tell me I'm crazy and think it's totally inefficient, when it's actually not. It makes so much sense
Yes! I totally agree with you. I do the same! I have book lists as well. I started writing down on paper many years ago, I then added my lists to Google docs, and last autumn I found Good read, and have become obsessed! I am now inserting my read books there, years in retrospective. I find it fascinating, Looking up the right edition, the right cover. I remember the cover years after I read the book. On Good reads I can look at statistics, and get a yearly overview of the covers with my ratings. I love it!
You are amazing! Audiobooks count! I think managing social media is key. I also cannot just read one book at a time.
I love the date idea... to read a book out loud to someone. Really cool and I will definitely try it!
I love this passion about your books, so inspiring. For me Goodreads and its reading challenge plus audiobooks work best for me :)
Wow, 80 books in a year?! Even if part of that list are audiobooks, that's still not a small number to scoff at. I'm aiming for 20 books this year and have been making steady but slow progress, so this is inspiring! It also totally explains your admirable ability to express yourself too.
Good luck on the 20 books! you can do it!
@@Mari-Yama Thank you! >_
I used to read 2 books a week when I was younger (as a student) but now with 2 kids I'm lucky if it's 2 per month:) Mostly I read up to 10 books in parallel now, always a few pages at a time:)
I would love to see you do a monthly or weekly book review! Please give goodreads another try. I would love to follow you on there and see what you're enjoying! That's basically where I get most of my book selection ideas. They also do a yearly book challenge that helps me stay on track.
this was lovely! thank you for such an inspiring video!
Inspiring video! Love it! I love reading and also read many books at the same time.
I really liked The Turn Of The Key!! x
That's a great idea to have many books read. I kind of did it sometimes, but never really felt good about it, rather guilty that I read too slowly and I am messy. Thank you! How eye-opening this is! I can actually read more books at the same time and feel relaxed about it 😎
Such a great and interesting video. I love hearing about other people's reading habits. I keep track of the books I've read using Pinterest boards. I don't think that's the "normal" way of doing it, but I live how simple and visual it is!
Please! More book videos!
(Already liked, but gotta do all I can 😝)
Love you both, Mustards!☺️💙
I would love to see more book videos! Perhaps your all-time favourite books, or books that have changed your life (maybe split into sections; spiritually/in relationships/in self-education) xx
Thanks for the great tips. I would love if you would make a video recommending your favourite books in each genre ♡
Loved this! More videos on books / reading please xxx
I'd love to see more books videos on your channel ! I personally just can't listen to audio books, it's impossible for me to focus enough to actually understand something 😅 but as I've always read a lot, it's really not a problem for me. Let's just say I'm a real-book-person ;) But it's very interesting to see you talking about that ! Love from France !
Would love to see more videos on books & writing!! x
I just found your channel! I wondered if you were Swedish? I was trying to learn Swedish and need to go back to it. I'm also a book worm and justifying reading more than one book at a time in the way you did has made me so happy cause there is literally so many I want to read! Tack! :)
Thanks for promoting reading! :)
Loved this! Also, give Goodreads another go, definitely worth it in my opinion (helps me keep up with all those lists and also reading goals!) :)
I watched this video yesterday and I loved the idea of a reading night so tonight my husband and I are opening up a bottle of wine and diving into a our luxury reading night. I’m so excited. That’s for the inspiration! Love from 2 book worms x
Love the book videos!
lovely video! I have a similar system with lists and I often up the speed as well when listening to things.
Thanks for the tip! I wouldn't have had the idea to read several books at the same time, although it makes so much more sense. And by the way I could not relate more to that list thing. it is like an addiction I make lists of everything and it makes me so happy!
I would love more book videos please!! also maybe a list of music you listen to while you read?
Amazing video Jenny, thank you! I’d love to see you make more bookish videos! The subject of books and reading is underrated and you do it really well. Also, I really think you should give Goodreads another try. It takes a while to get the hang of, but it has so many awesome features that record keepers and list lovers will really enjoy. You can put reading challenges, directly transfer your kindle highlights to your GR review, update and track your reading, keep track of books you own or wishlists, scan your covers to add the exact edition that you’re reading to your profile, make many different shelves, explore topics and lists, keep private notes as well as reviews, and so many other awesome pictures. If you do come back on Goodreads, would love to follow you there and see what you’re reading. In any case, please make more bookish stories! xx
I love this! Some of my fave books are The Help and The Book Thief
Goodreads is super constructive! Even I have this habit of making lists for everything and Goodreads is one of the best platforms to do that when it comes to books. It covers all sorts of list sections that you mentioned, books that you've read, want to read, reading currently etc. Both, the website and the app are useful!
I needed this inspo! 💜💫 I've just been reading Game of Thrones... I also relish the abundantly epic sentences.
I definitely do use goodreads. at the start of each year, I set a reading challenge for myself and it really motivates me to read more. for example for 2020 my aim is 50 books which for me is a challenge since I am a medical student who also works part-time but it thrills me every time I tick a book as "read" on Goodreads and give it a rating. I also use it to choose what books I want to read by reading the reviews and it helps keep a digital copy of my "to read list" as well as my "read list" so that I do not forget any of them
i love making book lists too! they just keep me satisfied
very useful video ! love it~♡
When you're reading so many books at a time, how do you remember the plot for each one? I can only do two at a time, as long as they're very opposite styles
Lindsey Carpenter what is funny for me is that I can read like 4 different books at a time and can keep the plot straight but as soon as I’ve finished it I forgot about it
It's not that way for everyone. I can also read several books at a time and not get them confused- even if they are slightly similar.
I wish I could do that. I read two books at a time also but anything more than that, I start to get some of the plots mixed up including side characters. I really envy people who can do multiple books at once!
Do you please, don't copy other people. We are all different. If you like reading one book at a time, just read one book 👍👍👍👍
Same things is motonous I do this too 2 or 3 books reading is not bad after a minute all the plot stories just come back
PLEASEEE make more book videos, nonfiction and novel recommendations
Books 4 life
Great advice Jenny!
I really recommend goodreads!! It motivates me to keep reading to achieve my reading yearly goal and I can look at what my friends are reading too 😁!
I absolutely love using Goodreads! I hope you get back into it and share with us all the books you are reading or planning to read!
I am so glad you mentioned the fact that you don't read only one book at the time! I have always done that already as a child, reading multiple books once. I thought it's maybe weird or not right, but now I just do it as I feel it. As you said depends on the mood and all that, can't agree more.
First of all, your eyeshadow is amazing!!!
Also, Goodreads. I used to use it a lot but the evergrowing list of books To-Read started to stress me a little and so, I cut away from all of that and now I have my list on OneNote. I've set it up as a table that tells me what books I've read in that year, when I started them and then I stopped reading to them and whether they were finished.
Then another that is just a list of books that I want to read but I haven't categorised them and that's a really good idea, I think it'd be easier to decide what to read if I have that set :)
Also, a book to recommend. I really enjoyed All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. It's set in world war 2, told from the perspective of an orphan and a blind girl and has very beautiful imagery, just incredible ✨
I would love more book videos from you!
Worth reading and discussing: 'Blue Highways' by William Heat Moon (he is about half American Indian and American Western European. Topics: 1. rural America in the 1970s 2. interviews of people who lived through WWl etc., 3. interesting photos 4. wide variety of American people 5. he was a college professor in Missouri 6. see him interviewed in a public library where many book talks take place (as well as book stores). 7. 'Ecology' which gets its name changed every few years 8. 'American Studies' 9. Geology 10. The National Parks 11. a million other topics, every page is different.
I tried goodreads a couple times before it started really working for me. I love it now! I can see what my friends are reading, find new books to read, and keep track of all my books and reviews. I would recommend giving it another go!
Goodreads is definitely worth it. It made me read more and discover books that I would never know existing otherwise because of the recommendation feature according to what you read.
Please post more book videos! I'd love to hear your take on reading while practicing minimalism as well :)
I use goodreads, works well enough for me :) I love making lists there!
Jenny thank for this video, and all the others!
I use library-thing to keep track of my catalogue and what I’ve read. You can make lists and it’s easy to add books. It’s nothing super sexy but it’s pretty effective. Would love to hear or see a list of your favourites!
More about books, please 🙏. I loved this!
My favorite video of yours for sure❤️ i mean, damn!!
More book videos Jenny! Xo great tips
I use goodreads, I would try it again! I really enjoy it. Thanks for this video!
A really good video!! Also where did you get that Jane Eyre edition? It's so pretty aaaaaah
please make more book videos ! so interesting and inspiring X
