Satchel is very good at playing dumb. He's actually classically trained, more knowledgeable on Six strings than most modern guitarists today. Watch this guy Live, or his Instructional videos...he Never misses a note, or a beat!

Not only is Russ a good friend of Paul Gilberts (was a groomsman in his wedding), he was also an instructor at GIT AND was on the first Fight record with Rob Halford. Awesome guy! Really plays this role well.

For a goof. Seriously though the guy shreds; a great guitar player. I used to go to their shows in San Diego before they started Steel Panther. They used to play metal covers including Van Halen and all that sort of 80's metal. Satchel kills Halen in his sleep note for note. Don't put down what you don't know about kiddies.

I have to say that this guy has become such a hero of mine over the last week. Yeah, i know it's an 'act', but the guy is so fuckin' good at it! He is believable as that character, and i bet he's caught so many ppl out, who don't know. He just makes me laugh so hard. He doesn't 'over egg the pudding'. I got the pleasure of watching these guys at the house of blues. They sound really tight live.
Born at the same hospital in redwood city. 2 years older than Russ . Lived next door to Paul Gilbert in 1988 in Hollywood, Russ came around being buddies with Paul , then saw Russ 100 times in Vegas doing Panther . Hung a few times at the bar. Great guy .

Cracks me up when for a brief moment at 9.12 satchel acknowledges string gauges, and then says that the singer is so out of tune live doesnt really matter!! Rebecca was blushing throughout the whole interview. Brilliant
Kramer Pacers and Tortex picks. I like his taste! I own both myself, actually. Funny thing is, I bought my Pacer in like 1983, when EVH was endorsing them. I didn't even know Kramer was still around, much less still making Pacers. I believe Satch made SWTA using one of those. ;)

Gotta give it to Satchel - for all the 'in-character' stuff, he's actually pretty respectful to RD for the whole interview.
Satchel is a fantastic guitar player and even better in-character as the over-the-top, but funny-af, rock guitar god from the 80s. His charm and charisma attract Rebecca and make this rig rundown the best in history.
The best of all rig run downs and oddly it doesn't involve much rig.

Satchel is legit an amazing guitarist, parody band or not he’s got the chops. Incredible. Also a fun guy to hear interviewed.
