I just built this model. It was amazingly difficult. I have been modeling for several years but doing mostly armor. I could not have done this model without this video - the level of patience needed for a plane is immense. Thank you so much for this vid, there were several times I wanted to drop a piece of wood on my creation, but overall I am happy.
I agree. The Hasegawa kit is old and not user friendly.
Your talent is at " Rock Star" level. Thanks for being inspiring😘
beautiful work and attention to detail when i was a kid i built models planes and ships from Revell i worked mowing lawns and shoveling snow and raking leaves to get my models and supplies years later i went into the navy and landed on an aircraft carrier the Oriskany cva 34 figures while i was in the Navy my parents moved into a mobile home and couldn't take my models behind in the attic of the old home I was pissed when i found out a lot of man hours wasted but i was blessed too have a good paying job and bought the same Revell models from the 60's and 70's for a hobby when I retired now I'm retired and haven't built yet watching this video of yours has inspired me to start building them all over again thanks David McLeod
I have to say, there is no way on Earth that I would have the patience to do what you modelers do. Your enthusiasm, hard work, and attention to detail is truly amazing. You are artists in every sense of the word. A tip of the old skimmer to all of you.
Thank you very much sir
A reliable fighter in real life, and a beautiful model art piece. The attention to the details is really impressive.
more than reliable. i hated the dam trainers than they gave me this. YES THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS! many years ago and i still miss the grand lady the only other better were sr-71 and f-14
What a stunning example of how a model aircraft should be painted! I'm impressed.
Thank you
I sat once in the cockpit of a F4, great plane and great model
Best time of my life working the F4. USS Coral Sea 69-70. Thank you for bringing back fond memories.
Speechless. One day, I'll have my Phantom set.
Congratulations!!!!
Thnk you ! :)
I could always assemble models, no issue. What amazes me is your artistic ability to paint/weather/finish... just fantastic looking. Great video.
Thank you very much. I think I'm bot very good in assembling 😂
Agree with you. Most people can do the assembly of a model kit with little to no difficulty - but to finish it like this requires some artistic skills👍👍👏
Wow! I used to make model airplanes in the 60's and 70's, but never approached your level of artistic detail. I went on the fly Phantoms in the Marines, and your model is nicer than the real thing. Love your detail on weathering and of course all the hydraulic leaks! Beautiful!
Thank you very much sir!
What squadrons were you with ?
@@zeeeman8744 101, 235
Nice, a friend of mine was stationed at Kaneohe he was a RIO but I don’t recall what squadron he was in.
One of my favourites model kits. Many, many years ago I did that exact model, but not as well as yours, obviously. I love that one :)
Excellent detailed tribute to one of the greatest fighters that ever lived. Big
and not the greatest design but state of the art for it’s time.
With that said.....and this is for all posters of Y/T videos.......a color contrasting background for the descriptions of video steps and thoughts. White is viewable but some fade especially against a light background.
Example........
Lighter background shades.......Black or red.
Darker background......lighter colors, yellow, red, white etc...
Once again great detail and right to the subject......not a excessive amount of “Fluff” to fill in gaps.
The “Fluff “ factor is more common on voice narrative videos like the poster wanted to hear themselves speak.
Corsair 2 pilot here that likes your Phantom !! Great job
Building stuff like this as a kid usually will find you in AOCS later on in life.... Like me. Nice model BTW
Very Nice! One of the first things I was taught about the F-4 was stay away from those little doors in between the main landing gear. I believe they are blow-in doors for the engine bays ventilation. They opened and closed almost instantly while hydraulics are running. So anything, maybe a hand or arm would at the least get crushed. At the worst, amputation! The Air Force marked them with red on the perimeter like the landing gear doors for a little extra warning to stay away. Just a little memory you jarred loose while watching your build! 👍🏼
Thanks for a bit of trivia! :)
That is absolutely beautiful
1/48 is my favourite scale model, especially the big size like B-1, B-29, B-47, DC-3, AC-130 etc.
Beautifully done! Years ago, I built a USN F-4J 1/48 kit, just like that one, "Showtime 100"-- I believe it was a Revell kit. It was fine, but it didn't turn out as nicely as yours!! 👍
Very nice job. When it comes to building...anything, everyone has their own way of going about it. Your result are very nice. The way you got there is up to you. Great job!
Just a little advice for future Navy builds...no plane would be allowed to leave the deck with bare metal on the seats. Those were touched up daily at sea and on the land. I was an AME in VF-102 and we did daily inspections on all our F-14's and had to touch up any bare metal on the seats and put a thin layer of lube on any component that was not painted. That included the cockpit paint as well.
Nav lights are "Red" for "Port Side" (Left), and "Green" for "Starboard" (Right). , .. ..
ha...great...Now I finally can remember which side is starboard and portside, awesome...thx :)
Good way to remember is; Is there any Red Port (wine) left? :)
AARON ISIDRO BARRAZA CANIZALES "RED RIGHT DEAD" was how I was taught, means it is coming at you.
But in the end, i was right. , .. ..
I remember it politically: "the left is red"
You should rate your builds by how many beers they took to complete. An easy one would probably be a 1 or two beer job but a complex one would be like 3 or 5
great building its take time and patience , no to rush build
I was born in the wrong era, when youtube wasn't existed yet. HAD THIS been existed 25 years ago, I would have finished models as good as yours.
Thank you sir!
I enjoyed building my Hasegawa 1/48 scale model kits. I still think they make the absolute best aircraft model kits in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scales. I especially love my four F-14 Tomcat models especially. I built this very same F-4J Showtime model kit along with the Felix and Sundowners phantoms. I loved adding hydraulic lines and other bits inside the landing gear wells.
Phenomenal detail and craftsmanship! (one small thing: the wingtip navigation lights, green/red, are backward; red should be on the left.) Easy fix on a gorgeous piece of work.
Yeah a lot of guys here already mentioned that but I fixed this after the video was released
@@ScaleHangar182 A very microscopic little detail that in no way detracted from your immense talent and how beautifully you put that together.
WOW... great build. It only took you 23:00 minutes to complete.
Hah. A bit more then that ;)
Haha I think wether it’s scale model or table top miniatures we all wish it would take us 23 minutes lmfao
jajajajajajaj
He is time-lapsing it you.....
Nice work. In reality, how much time in hours and over how many days/weeks?
That is just so f--ing sensational (pardon my language) The paint is so perfect that the model actually looks heavy, and ultra-realistic!
I love navy phantom too, espically hi-visual colar age
Great ideas on using the marker to check off the placard placements
Its enough of them to lose the track :D
Just ordered one of these bad boys. Can't wait!
Beautiful build of my favorite Aircraft.
yep, ive not done a single model right in my life time... amazing skills... subbed and liked
You have a steady hand! Beautiful job!
Dude, you make it look so easy, but those time lapse video are tough work but mesmerizing...tight work
Amazing job! I have the Jolly Rodgers version still in the box. I look at it every once in a while, but it intimidates the hell out of me, lol. After your video, I'll have more courage to tackle it. Great work again!
Absolutely gorgeous !!! I'm so envious. I wish I had the patience and attention span that it takes to do them so nicely.
Thank you sir!
I am fairly new to scale models and I can't wait till I have all the materials and skills to make models this well.
It takes a little bit time to get materials but till then just build and build and don't forget to practice something new each build 😉
Pretty nice cool F-4ej Phantom ll
This was a god damned gorgeous build, and I learned so much from this. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for comment! Good luck
Very nice MiG bagging Rhino!
the process is instructive, the result is beautiful
Great Job----I worked on the real thing during the 70's, Marine Corps squadron VMFA 232.
That is fanrasric! What was your Job?

@@jeffpeterson4104 Pleasure to meet someone who had a chance working with this beautiful birds, im sure im gonna build more phantoms and few F-14's
As a child I witnessed old smokey do a flyover at an airshow. When you are 10 or 11 and you feel the earth beneath your feet shake, it is a pretty scary experience. memorable to though.
I took my kids to air show this year. They are 10 and 11. Eurofighter is pretty loud too :)
When you have break............... A very nice build 👏 👏 👍 👍 👍
That's "Showtime 100". Cunningham and Driscoll's war bird.
Very nice work sir, amazing!
excellent and awesome build. The Phantom has been my all time favorite aircraft ever since I could remember. I have built that kit many times. have a great day my friend
Thank you very much sir. And you enjoy your day too!
I think I had this kit growing up. It wasn't on the awesome scale as what you've done tho. This is incredible, thank you for sharing
It's perfect like that!!! not those excessive pre/post shading which gives an hidous result....
Wow those engines look spectacular
Thank you!
F-4J Phantom II "Showtime 100" flown by Randy "Duke" Cunningham and Willie "Irish" Driscoll
Do you know he did about 8 yrs in the federal penitentiary for accepting bribes as a congressman.
That wasn't their main plane.
Showtime 100 was the VF-96 squadron commander's plane. You can see his name (the commander's) on the canopy sills of the model.
Cunningham and Driscoll's main F-4 ride was Showtime 110 which DID survive the Vietnam War. It was later upgraded into an F-4S and tired (probably) in the 1980s. It's on display at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park, San Diego. It still displays markings for the first two kills Cunningham and Driscoll achieved in Vietnam.
@@AvengerII They had 3 kills on May 10, 1972. It was not on display at the Museum during my time in San Diego in the Navy. I was there from 1985-89 serving on the USS Constellation. We got the VF-154 Black Knights right after I went aboard in 85, they had just switched from the F-4 to the F-14.
@@TheJer1963 I'm aware of the fact that Showtime 100 was the plane they got their last 3 kills in.
Not the point -- it wasn't their main ride. Showtime 110 was down for repairs that day and that's why they (Cunningham and Driscoll) used the squadron commander's plane.
Of course, at this point, it's kinda moot because Cunningham destroyed his reputation nationally with the bribery scandal. He got out of federal prison not long ago. They let him keep his Navy pension but of course he forfeited the congressional pension.
The more I hear about the guy, the more its clear that the reputation he had across the country was NOT what you hears and saw from the vets in San Diego. I got a very dirty look from a guy at the museum (1995, when I visited) when I mentioned his name. That was well before the bribery scandal. Naive little me was not aware of local or Navy politics. There are vets from his time in the Navy who did NOT like him, who had personal contact with him or knew guys from his time on the Constellation who were in his squadron. I don't think it's envy, btw.
Gen. Olds, probably the most-respected Vietnam fighter pilot, wouldn't even mention Cunningham directly by name in his book but clearly detested him.
They'll keep Showtime 110 as a museum piece and reminder of the Vietnam War but Cunningham will never be inducted into the San Diego aviation hall of fame...
To be fair, this is NOT an anti-Navy post. There are lots of guys in the Air Force who hated Chuck Yeager, too, and he's been described as both difficult and an asshole in real life. The public image and what these guys are like in real life are sometimes 180-degrees apart.
Enjoy the whole process
Brill job my friend. That's so weird ! I have this exact kit, the same masks, the same wheels and the same Eduard cockpit set !! That's so strange so I'm saving this video for when I do mine !! Well done buddy
Mottys Military Models - Steve Mottram cheers man and have a good time with it. It's nice kit !
Hi Dave, sorry for being a pain , can I ask in your video you don't see you have any real issues , now I'm doing this exact kit at the minute as a break from armour and dios !! My fuselage is badly warped to the extent of me trying every technique known to man to get it straight and it's still badly off !!! I was just wondering if you had to do anything first to prepaRe this for such an outstanding job such as yours that this project t turned out to be ?? Also did you find you had to do a lot if any re-scribing and filing or anything ??
perfect! Great job
Okay let me say what I'm Really Thinking. FREAKING AMAZING JOB. I Can Never come close to that. BUT I Certainly do try and learn as much as I can.
Absolutely love this build......... incredible
I love this man! This is the oldest fighter I ever refueled, the Germans were just about to retire them in 2006, but I got to refuel them one time!!!
Thanks! You're in army?
@@ScaleHangar182 used to be man. Its really cool seeing you build these models and adding all the distress and grime. I flew on the KC-135 and everytime a fighter would come up, you'd see dents, worn pain, and oil. Awesome machines.
I love seeing those aircraft I used to refuel on your channel. F-15, F-16, F-4...have you done any bombers? B-1, B-2, or B-52?
Hi, that's great man, fun experience! No I didnt build any bombers yet, for now I have a few fighters to build in 48th scale, F-86, A7, F-14, Su-27, also got SH3H Seaking helicopter, and few 1/35 tanks in between, currently also a few star wars kits too
She looks like she has been through it and is ready for more. Beautiful.
That’s one of my most favorite jet
One of my favorite fighter jets. Good work!
Im currently doing the Revell 1:48 version for my newest videos. This plane is always tricky but I love it.
why the people dislike? It is so beautiful F4 model plane.
Well. Not everyone feels the same as you I guess. I personally never dislike videos even if I don't like it, well, except someone is doing something really stupid. But I don't care about dislikes. I don't consider myself a professional scale modeller and I make mistakes
@@ScaleHangar182 Young man, you may not get paid, but you are by every measure a pro! You might not do this for money, but your passion is on full display! BRAVO!!!
Awesome !!! The F4 was one of the best fighters ever. Fantastic Job. Well done !!!
Very realistic paint finish and restrained and skillfull
Pozdrawiam
I'm fallen in LOVE :')
One word for this video, art.
Thank you!
Very well built indeed. Only one issue. You've reversed the wingbtip navigational lights. It should be red on the left n green on the right.
Yeah I got like 30 comments about this :) my mistake
Bravo! Simply amaxing!!
exelente trabajo, muchas felicidades, saludos
Fantastic work! I've never regretted a dollar I've spent on the Eduard photoetch/Brassin stuff.
Except for the Brassin engine I bought for the wrong FW type lol.
Saint Robbie rip
Outstanding work sir, a joy to watch
Thank you very much!
Brilliant make...
Just love your tutorials! That is what I concider your videos to be - TUTORIALS/ Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much!
@@ScaleHangar182 The pleasure is all mine. Your hints and tricks help me enormously, since I am a beginner in modelling.
Take care and stay tuned!)
Nice job my friend. Also, nice touch to have a model😍 introduce your channel. 👍
Thank you!
Really nice work! Wouldn't be as brave as you to start post-shading at that post-final assembly point O_o
Creativity at its very best ... so satisfying to watch ... wishin u d very best in life ... u inspire us!
P.S. perfect background score to complement d build!!!
Love from India - 🙏 KK
you are a lucky person because you are a very talented guy i wish i have talent like that
keep up the good work... 💯
MONGGI HAYUP thank you very much !
Buenas! Si Hablais en Castellano! joder! y yo pensando que erais angloparlantes! enhorabuena por el canal, soy un enfermo del plástico como vosotros! soy mas de aviones, pero siempre se aprende algo de un modelista a otro! Salud para todos vosotros
Great talent! Greetings.
Great video, enjoyed a lot and learnt a lot
Beautiful work ...The F4 is a sexy aircraft... I just saw an F4 from this Squadron on display. It wouldn't let me share the pic awesome work though.
Thank you very much !
Very nice! My favorite plane of all time and so well done.
Amazing
Was a pleasure to watch you construct this magnificent aircraft. Your skill and technique are above par compared to the average modeler. Keep up the great work, will be nice to you build other aircraft. Would love to see the A-4M Skyhawk, the first aircraft I worked on in the Marine Corps back in the day.
I don't have A4 in my stash yet, but you can watch my previous videos of F-20 or F-15. Also F-14 Tomcat video comming this month too
Amazing work.
It must be some important thing about Phantom ll 'Showtime 100' . I do not know why the fighter choosen as miniature kit . Btw its a great model and excellent job too.
Wow it's beautiful
woah! you've got a Hasegawa decal sheet that actually has white on it, not cream!!
Fav'd just for that epic second track. You need a playlist!
Awesome! Makes me want to make a F4 again, even though I finished one last year (same kit, but the 30th aniversary edition). The only drawback of this set is the lack of details in the air intakes.
Anyway, great job, both with the model and video. Plus, I really like your selection of models.
Sir Calam thank you very much sir!
Buy the Tamiya kit. It may be the best aircraft kit ever produced, it is a B model though.
Excelente video desde chile a mi también me gusta los aviones y el aermodelisno gran trabajo 💪👍
Wow!!! Well done!
Showtime 100, the assigned Phantom of Randy "Duke" Cunningham and William "Irish" Driscoll, they actually made their 5th and final kill in their commanders F-4, Showtime 110 before being shot down by a surface to air missile. In May of 1972 during a Operation Linebacker strike in North Vietnam, they shot down a Vietnamese ace flying a MiG-17 which was supposedly piloted by Col. Nguyen Toon, aka, "Colonel Tomb", though it isn't confirmed if it was him and was probably more myth than anything else, however according to Cunningham, they did get into a long and grueling dogfight with an enemy pilot that Cunningham and Driscoll described as cool headed and absolutely superb and 3/4 of the time held the advantage over Cunningham and Driscoll. At one point in the dogfight, Driscoll suggested to Cunningham that they break off combat and head back to their carrier, however Cunningham, a Top Gun graduate eventually employed a tactic that shot down the enemy pilot.
They shot down 3 Mig's on May 10, 1972 before being shot down themselves. The Mig ace Col. Toon was one of the 3 shot down that day.
Beautiful build. Randall "Duke" Cunningham would be proud. So would Will Driscoll. Just a note, red navigation lights should be on the left side, you have the green & red reversed. Still a breathtaking model and I don't mean to be petty. AMAZING aircraft!!!!! 5 STARS!!!!!
Thanks for spotting this, I didn't realise till now. My brain must have been switched of at around midnight when I was painting these navigation lights. Very very frustrating. I'm going to fix that tonight. Thank you !
Your F-4 model is awesome. I love it.
mr.modern44 thank you !
I doubt Cunningham cares much considering how he completely disgraced himself with his conduct during his years in Congress. If he has any shame, he'll never show himself again in public. It really is that bad. He got out of prison a few years ago after serving the mandatory sentence of his bribery/fraud case.
They US Navy hasn't exactly been talking up his case for many years because of his conduct post-Vietnam War.
There are a lot of things we don't find out about our heroes until the s#$t hits the fan. I visited San Diego last in 1995 and actually went to the SD Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park. There I saw Showtime 113, the preserved F-4J(S) Cunningham and Driscoll got their first two kills in Vietnam. I just happened to talk with a vet and mentioned Cunningham's name and I got a hostile response -- not aimed at me because the guy was aware I DIDN'T know better but nonetheless on second reflection they knew better about him locally than most people did nationally.
The second time I got a sense that the vets really DIDN'T like Cunningham was reading Robin Olds' memoirs. He talked about the Vietnam War and mentioned the USAF pilot ace, Steve Ritchie, and had some words for him, too (good pilot but extremely arrogant), but he wouldn't even mention Cunningham by name because he was disgusted by Cunningham's behavior so much.
There have been many decorated vets who had significant problems in their personal lives. A lot of them got DUI's and embarrassed their families, went through multiple marriages. There were quite a few well-known names there -- Gregory "Pappy" Boyington with his alcoholism, even Robin Olds had a DUI or two, and the latter wrote about the failures of his own marriages. The difference between them and Randy Cunningham was that they weren't elected to national office, they didn't steer military contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars to contractors who gave them gifts and perks that enabled them to live far past their salary levels and do these things over two decades.
You just can't make excuses for Cunningham because he behaved that way and was so crooked for so long.
Cunningham forever tarnished his name and UNLESS someone is doing a documentary on Vietnam and needs "data" about it, TOP GUN and the Navy really don't like to talk about Cunningham anymore. Note that all the History Channel and other documentaries using interviews with Cunningham were shot well before he got in trouble for his congressional behavior.
Showtime 113 is still where it is as a monument to naval aviation during Vietnam, not Randy Cunningham even though he was its most (in)famous pilot. It was installed in that museum years before scandals caught up with its former pilot but it's no more controversial than either plane involved with dropping A-bombs or the U-2 and any number of planes involved with the less savory sides of aviation/global conflict.
+AvengerII I was going to comment on the same topic and yes it is a damn disgrace. Take care
Insanely AMAZING! Professional!
Yes I did, the man F’d up but damn could he throw a Phantom around the sky
