Thanks for the comment, glad you like it. I kind of like to see some variety in models and this is one of my favorite aircraft, so I didn’t go crazy on the weathering.
Oh great, this is my favorite kit so far, I think you will really enjoy building it. I apologize for the delay, life got busy and there were so many little details to work on.
I have this model in my stash......looking forward to building it and will use your series to builds to help me, thanks. I only have one word to say on your F16...........stunning!!!!!!!!
Wow that really does mean a lot, I still have so much to learn but that comment is very encouraging. This kit does not disappoint! So much detail and perfect fit.
Your welcome......I think the weathering looks perfect, one of the best finishes I've seen on this kit.....but that just my personal opinion other may think otherwise. Thank you for the nozzle and paint info, I'll probably be using tamiya acrylics and oils when I go for my build but I'll probably build up to it with several smaller back to builds just to get "into the zone" . Looking forward to seeing what you decide to build next Scott.
Wow beautiful result , impressive skill and know how but overwhelming and discouraging as a beginner trying to get into model building , maybe I should not watch these advanced kind of videos unless I can get more advanced myself .
Thanks for watching! It just takes practice, and the goal is to have fun and enjoy it. One tip I might be able to give is to buy a cheap model kit and use it just for practice. I did that with a Revell F-15 before building a nicer Academy F-15E (prior to starting the channel). I used the Revell kit to practice air brushing, and the defferent layers of paint and weathering. It gave me confidence to build a nicer kit, and took the pressure off. Now I try to just get a little better with each model and figure what works for me. Also, from personal experience, it is easy to fall into a trap of comparing yourself to others. I then called the channel the Pursuit because I wanted to enjoy the process of getting better with each project. Hope that helps, Happy scale modeling!
Thanks so much! Yes, you are a huge inspiration for me and your F14 Top Gun video is one of the best modeling videos out there IMO. No telling how many times I’ve watched it and has cheered me up. That’s what made me realize something like putting out modeling videos can make a difference.
Awesome build mate. Tamiya should upgrade their 1/32 kits. Trumpeter has a wider range of modern fighters but there's so many fitment issues with their kits.
Thank you, I appreciate the comment. I will most likely try a 1/32 Trumpeter kit to get the “full experience” because they do have some kits I like, especially they A6 and A7
Hello! First of all BEAUTIFUL build. I am so impressed with your skills genuinely.I started making models a year ago and I still have so much to learn. I wondered why you spray the surfacer is such light coats. They almost look dry to me, and dry usually means grainy and not smooth surfacer?? Is it because you don't wanna affect the panel lines by overspraying them? But how do you still manage do get such a smooth finish?
Hey thank you for the kind message! I love that you are in the learning mode, I am too. That’s actually why I named the channel the “Pursuit” because I hope to always keep learning new things. On the primer roughness, I do try to keep paint applications thin to preserve details, but I do like to go back with 1000 grit sanding sponge and smooth it out a little before painting. Same thing after each coat of paint and clear
@@scalemodelpursuit I guess making models is one of those discipline where you never stop learning, right 😄 Thank you for the tip! I also do that with 3000 grit sponges from tamiya on my primer coats. Is 3000 too much of a grit? Also yeah, I guess I should do that on every coat of paint and clear, as you say!
Thanks for watching! @3:24 gives an example of the ratio of the colors of paint. I had done some searching on google to try and find an approximate mix for the colors suggested in the instructions. So I probably just put 4 times as much XF-19 than I did XF-66, etc. The mask cutting machine is a Silhouette Portrait 3.
Yeah I just did a computer scan of the decal sheet with my printer, and then brought the scanned image into the Silhouette software. The mask material is called frisket film, and the silhouette cutter does a nice job with it.
Thank you so much for your message and subscribing to the channel! I think I found a mix ratio for insignia white using XF colors. Let me try to mix it and compare it to my Tamiya LP insignia white. Will let you know if it is a pretty close match.
For insignia white try mixing 10 to 12 parts XF-2 white to 1 part XF-55 Deck Tan. I tried it and compared to my LP-35 and it seems very close. Should look off-white with a very slight tan hue.
Any tips for air brushing? I’ve had two air brushes and both of them lasted literally one time. Not one project. One use. I cannot get the paint to flow through the airbrush. I don’t know if I’m mixing my paint too think or too thin. Any help from anyone?
Sorry to hear that, I know that is frustrating as that happened to me on my first attempt at air brushing. A good place to start might be about 50% paint to 50% thinner. Of course the thinner has to match the paint type, but there are some tricks here too. What brand of paints are you trying to use?
@@scalemodelpursuit I was using the Tamiya paints, like the X-1 Black, etc. Also tried the Testors brand. It was like my airbrushes were clogging up. Now I’m using Vallejo Model Color and the Vallejo Model Air, but I’m doing it all with brushes now. I’m still coming out with some quality paint jobs. I’m 62 and been doing models most of my life, so I’ve gotten pretty good with the brushes. But my hands aren’t as steady as they once were, which is why I finally upgraded to the air brush. But it’s been nothing but frustration so far. And it gets expensive buying them. And no one around here works on them. Any help is greatly appreciated!
ok thanks for the info. What type of airbrush do you have? I would encourage you not to give up, I almost did but once you figure it out airbrushing can become one of the most enjoyable parts of the process because of the effects you can achieve. If your airbrush can handle solvents, Alclad II has a fantastic airbrush cleaner but be sure to wear a respirator and gloves. Might be strong enough to soak some of the parts and get it working again. For Tamiya Acrylic paints, they are acrylic lacquers, so you can use lacquer thinner or Isopropyl alcohol as a thinner base. If you’re airbrush can handle lacquer thinner, and you can vent you area where you are spraying, My go-to thinner is Mr Color Leveling Thinner because it has a paint retarder added into it. But you can also use regular lacquer thinner. If your airbrush can’t handle lacquer thinner (because of the seals and o-rings) you can use Isopropyl Alcohol (I get mine at Walmart). Factors in clogging: 1-Nozzle/needle size: the smaller the nozzle the thinner the paint should be. Here is a rough guide for Tamiya paints: 0.4mm nozzle 40-50% thinner 20-25 psi 0.2mm nozzle 60-70% thinner 15-20 psi 0.15mm nozzle 80-90% thinner 5-10 psi -For Vallejo Model air: I use a 0.4mm nozzle at 25psi and I only use Airbrush Flow improver 50% with these paints! This was huge for me. I almost threw out my Vallejo paints I was so frustrated with the clogging. Using Vallejo flow improver as the thinner was the secret! For thinning Tamiya paints with Isopropyl Alcohol, there is a fantastic home brew thinner from Barbatos Rex that I make at home and use. Here is the link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/vwOAHRtp7RE/v-deo.htmlsi=YXHGONjaTiXHiug3 2- Cleaning Use the same solvent or thinning medium to clean the airbrush that was used to thin the paint. I have accidentally use the wrong solvent and the paint immediately clumps up in the airbrush. I pretty much completely clean my airbrush unless I am painting several things in a row. 3- water in the compressed air. I had clogging problems and then realized I had not drained the water separator frequently enough on my compressors air filter. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions -Scott

The CR+ has a 0.4 and 0.2 mm nozzle. Long answer, almost all of it was sprayed with the 0.2 at 15-20 psi because I use lacquer thinner to thin my Tamiya paints for long spray sessions. I didn’t use much Vajello Model Air on this kit, and for those paints I have a tough time with the 0.2 mm nozzle because they clog up on me unless it is just a quick spray on a small part. For clear varnishes and primer on large areas I will swap out to the 0.4 mm needle/nozzle Hope that helps
