Those are Biscotti cookies or biscuits, you're suppose to dip them into your hot coffee & that's why they're so crunchy so they don't disintegrate in your hot drink. We have many different varieties but my favorite is probably the pistachio or macadamia nuts & chocolate. Really good & you should try a stroopwaffle which is like a flat waffle cone that has got usually carmel in between two stroopwaffles & then you lay one on top of your hot coffee or tea or hot chocolate & it warms up & melts the Carmel a little & u can dip it in the hot drink & it's very good also.

If you’re feeling brave try scrapple. It’s basically the trimmings of pork and beef which is mulched (put through the chopper) then mixed with gelatin then cooked and chilled into a loaf shape. It’s a breakfast thing. It’s kinda like modern headcheese but better. Oddly only available in Pennsylvania. Also the Amish buffet is a tourist trap and not really truly Amish. I know a few cafes that do Amish food but it’s deep in Amish territory near Punxsutawney. Just be sure not to run into the breaking Amish cast. They all were shunned from the Amish community for participating in the show. I know most of them still live around that area still but they keep to themselves.

This is the second video I'm watching since I just subscribed. Good thing I held off on mentioning these two cheesesteak joints on the other video,
Yes, Pat's and Geno's ARE tourist traps. The high majority of locals do not go to them. They are not bad cheesesteaks and do the job, but many here go to other spots around the city and the suburbs depending on where you live. Most of those are family owned and unique, not where they are a chain restaurant.
I know I mentioned Angelo's on your hoagie video, but it is great to see that you went there. Yeah, you have to order in person or by phone. No online orders. And yes, you have to wait for a little bit longer than most places because of how busy it is and that they make great food. Worth waiting for.
Another thing... just call it a cheesesteak. My fellow residents will give you the stink eye if you say "Philly cheesesteak" while ordering one IN PHILADELPHIA. As I said in the hoagie video, Philadelphians traditionally get their cheesesteaks with just 3 ingredients... the steak, cheese and onions. That's it. Usually it is plenty flavorful without anything else on it.
Oh, I'm originally from New York, but it is a big no no to tell the locals any comparison between the two cities that are less than 90 miles apart.
There is no big decision to make. Out of these 3 joints you went to, it is Angelo's. Hands down. Glad you two loved it.

You're welcome! Angelo's is the only spot that can get rated ahead of John's Roast Pork, but those two set the standard.
Jim's Steaks... the South Street location. It re-opened on May 1st after a fire gutted their place July 2022. See the Magic Garden space.
Dalessandro's Steaks and Hoagies... it is in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, roughly 15 minutes from downtown
Joe's Steaks & Soda Shop... if you like a diner kind of setting. Be sure to get a milkshake with it.
Woodrow's Sandwich Shop... they put a bit of a twist on a cheesesteak with truffle cheese
In Philadelphia's inner western suburbs, try DELCO Steaks. Their original location is on West Chester Pike in Broomall.

  • @nonadabove
    @nonadabove 3 місяці тому +2

Shame you went to the 2 tourist trap locations. You can get a better sandwich at any neighborhood pizza shop. And instead of putting ketchup on it, you can order it with sauce. The meat is usually a rib-eye meat, cooked in a seasoned oil.
Updated: Never been to Angelo's but it looks a lot like what you'd find in any neighborhood shop. Glad you enjoyed it!

NEVER trust anyone who tells you to put ketchup on steak!!!
I cringed when I heard that guy recommend that.

Love your channel, was wondering if you’d make a trip to Philly for a cheesesteak.
If you haven’t left go to any Chinese store and try cheesesteak egg rolls.
    Use ketchup to dip.

Don't ask for a "Philly" cheesesteak at John's or they will throw you out.

If you want a good cheezesteak, avoid Pats or Genos. They are tourist traps. Also no wiz. American cheeze is best.

Oh my Lord, Philly cheese steak sandwich might just be my favourite of all time! As a butcher that just floats my boat! Always try and have one when I'm Stateside but never been to Philadelphia yet! Mmmmm, those looked the bomb!
I'll have to go and have a sh*tty Subway one tomorrow now!😂 Great reviews!👏👏👏👍♥️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸

Hello, lovely people. Glad you've tried one of our national treasures.
A little history -- I live in the Great Lakes region, so I'm guaranteed to be left out of the best comfort foods. Arby's used to sell the "Philly Beef n Swiss", a very good sandwich. But I had to move to the South to get even a half-good cheese steak.
I made up my mind to make my own.
Steak buns, Steak-Umm shaved sirloin, coarse-chopped onion/red bell/green bell peppers. Liberal mayo on the buns, break the Steak-Umms lengthwise, season, stack, top withh chopped veggies for cooking. (I use the oven.)
2minutes before they're done (about 13min), topmwith your choice of cheese. I use any of about 5 white cheeses.
    My grandson loves them.

Um, you were in Philly, so you could have just said cheesesteak.😉

@ 6:55 I love cherry peppers!! I always keep a gallon jar of Cosmo's cherry peppers here at home. They're so great sliced up on sandwiches or just by themselves!!
Out of those 3 places, Angelo's is the true Philly Cheese-Steak. The other two were just cheap tourist sandwiches.

Glad you persisted to get Angelo's in.
But my question is, between Angelo's cheesesteak, and Chicago Italian beef, which is better?
Or should I ask this after you try Dinic's first?

Phil here again...While I agree Angelo's is one of the best, you are entitled to pit any condiments you enjoy on top!
Just make sure it's a good roll which is hard to find outside of the Tri-State area (PA, NJ & DE) and good meat. Also, if using American cheese, than a hood white American like Cooper Or Clearfield and some others. Enjoy!! You guys are great!

I was going to suggest another place to seek the best cheesesteak-Mama’s Pizzeria. In Balance Cnwyd, a suburb to the North. But the cheesesteak at Angelo’s is somewhat similar. Very interesting episode… but I could never consider putting matchup, catsup, or even tomato sauce on one.

Cooper Sharp cheese for the win with Angelos. Ix-nay on the etchup-kay, lovelies. Never ketchup. Steak, cheese, and onions are permissible. Fin. My husband grew up eating cheesesteaks with grilled green peppers added, so I grill them on the side and let him add his own. I never have almond biscotti without coffee- coffee is the main and biscotti is the side.
And you guys are still so adorable- what an evolution from those 'beignet' car videos in California!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on cheesesteaks! It sounds like a delicious combination with the grilled green peppers. And you're right, coffee and biscotti would be a match made in heaven!
