I hope that you get well soon Nicola ! Awesome looking food there at the Peggy Sue's Diner (FYI for people that don't know but Buddy Holly had a hit song called "Peggy Sue" ) .
You guys have gotten so good at this. I love the voice-overs that sound like a Hollywood advertisement on a daytime TV show, complete with your British accents.
I didn't realize that there was so much to see between Vegas and San Diego. I'm sure that we drove that same route to and from Vegas when I was a kid back in the 70's. But I don't remember any of those stops. I guess a lot has changed in the last 50 years lol... I just remember long stretches of hot nothingness until we arrived back in San Diego. lol.. You guys sure make it look like more fun than I remember. ♥ We love your channel so much Andrew and Nicola. Rich and Mila in Seattle. ♥
Diner videos always make me happy, especially watching you guys enjoy it. It makes me happy that the both of you are gaining the same memories as I did
When I was younger I worked at a place called The Donut Hole, the lady there made a turtle brownie that was amazing! Have never found one that compares to hers!
Peggy Sue’s reminds me of Ed Debevic’s. Also, my longest day of driving ever was from Tampa, Florida to Central Indiana and it took 19 hrs. My longest total road trip experience was from Indiana to Colorado, to Idaho, and back to Indiana. I did that in 12 days.
When you two were here for the best state fair in the country, you should have visited Mickey's Diner.. open since 1939. It's a rail car!! Come back to the Twin Cities! ❤ Love your videos, and the Brits!
The White gravy is called a sawmill gravy (without the sausage). Peggy Sues is outstanding. We stop by there when we go to Vegas. It's only about an hour from us.
Awesome road trip you two, loved the 50's Diner food so much. The Biscuits and gravy but the patty melt was my favorite. Can't wait for the next video!!!
It’s a wonderful thing to have a great reason to just eat pies. What a fabulous idea. 😋 Yes, I believe you should do more road trips. It’s fun to see unique things, unusual things and crazy things and stopping along the way making those memories and collecting them. I really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing. ❤ 14 Hour road trip from Chicago to North Carolina, but we did drive from Wisconsin to Florida, which was two days that was for moving with six people and two cats. That was crazy, but then I moved from Florida back to Illinois with two teenagers and two cats. Will the joys ever stop.😂😂
I'm new to your channel and am living vicariously through the two of you! Please dont think that gravy is "real" country gravy! Lol....the chocolate malt and root beer float are timeless!
😂🤣😂🤣LMAO at y'all thinking that 5 1/2 hours is a long trip! I live in San Antonio, Texas and grew up going twice a year to my grandparents' home in Lake Dallas which was a 6-7 hour drive depending on how many times and for how long we stopped along the way - that was in the '70's and '80's when traffic wasn't as bad as it is now along I35. Anyway, I guess my longest drive was from San Antonio to Maryland. My friend drove with me, it took us a few days (we always stopped for the night). I had a student internship working in the State Department in D.C. That was back in '91. It was a lot of fun. I drove all over the east coast every weekend sight-seeing: Boston, New York, Philly, Baltimore, etc. I think Philly was my favorite - I'm a major history buff, so Independence Hall was awesome. I also really enjoyed visiting Mt. Vernon, Arlington, and Alexandria.
Chocolate malt and biscuits and gravy. Yes please! My longest road trip was from Long Beach, Ca to Toledo, Ohio. Never again! Thanks for the adventure!
Between 1990 and 1995 I used to drive from Peoria Illinois to Daytona Beach Florida, about 2 or 3 times a year to Bass Fish, play pool, and party at the bars and nightclubs, sort of like a mini vacation for 3 or 4 days at a time. It is 1,125 miles, and if you drive straight through it's about a 16.5 hour drive. We usually stopped a few times for gas, and a bathroom break, so it took about 17 hours. And I love root beer floats, I make them at home all the time. The best part is when you mix the ice cream with the root beer using a spoon, it changes the taste. Some people eat the ice cream with the spoon, I like to mix it together.
I did a road trip from Wilmington, Mass. to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho while working for the circus. A trip of 2,743 miles in about 2 days. I saw so much corn and so many signs for Wall drug store and Mt. Rushmore. It is a trip I will never forget nor want to drive again.
Thank you for this fantastic journey. I love all your videos and experiences with different foods. My longest journey was from Tampa, FL to Chicago, IL. Baking pies would be great fun.
I ran out of gas! I had a flat tire! I didn't have enough money for cab fare! My tux didn't come back from the cleaners! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! It wasn't my fault!
Yes! Please do the pie tasting vlog! Then you could do a cake tasting one 😂- my favorites are tiramisu and tres leches cake! Lava cake is delicious too! Love your videos! Hope you are healing well Nicola!
If you want really good fudge I hope you'll visit Macinac Island in Michigan. It's known for its fudge. It's a great place to visit in the summer. As a kid my family would visit every couple of years.
Our longest road trip took 19 hours from the East Coast to the Midwest US. I drove the entire trip and started to doze off about 2/3 of the way. Something I would never do again nor recommend anyone try!
I know it's WAY out of your way, but Frank's Diner in Spokane WA is a must-try. Old train car? Yep. Great food? Yep. Incredible, friendly, fast, professional service? Also yep.
Yes! A pie tasting video! Y’all need to come back to the southern states for that. Have you ever tried a chocolate pie with meringue on top? Or coconut cream? Or buttermilk or raisin pie? Also, have y’all ever had a REAL southern banana pudding, cooked on the stovetop, with meringue on top? How about a CHOCOLATE cobbler??? There’s so much more to try!
Great video! I love your adventures and beautiful relationship! A pie tasting trip would be epic! The longest road trip I've ever taken was from my home in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Twin Valley, Minnesota. My elder sister and I went down there to visit our niece. It took 22 hours, and we didn't stop along the way for an overnight, although my sister was a smoker and needed frequent stops for a "smoke". Drove straight through, I mean I drove straight through. It was my car with a manual transmission, which my sister couldn't drive. Interesting (and tiring) trip. Worth it though.
It’s been a million years since my last one, but all of a sudden I’m craving a root beer float! Cheers! (P.S. Our longest road trip was Chicago to Tucson AZ!)
Thanks for stopping at the Alien jerky place. Now I don't have to. I knew when you pulled it out of the package and it was a rectangle it was going to be rubbish. At least Peggy Sue's looked like it was really good.
Oddly enough before your Blues Brother skit the iconic movie i was thinking was My cousin Vinny where Vinny and his fiancee go to a classical southern diner where the menu has three options Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
I have two road trips that tie for the longest I've taken. One was from Richmond, Virginia to Livermore, California. The other was the trip back from Livermore, CA to Richmond, VA. Each was about 3000 miles long, which I drove in 3 days. The drive from Virginia to California was in August of 1983 when I moved to California to attend graduate school in the University of California - Davis Department of Applied Science in Livermore, CA. The reverse drive was a couple of years later when I completed my Masters degree and I moved back to Virginia. On the Virginia to California drive, I stopped overnight in Kansas City, Missouri and in Reno, NV. On the Reno to Livermore leg, I stopped briefly in Sacramento, CA to go to the UC-Davis campus bookstore to get some textbooks for the first semester. On the return drive from CA to VA, I drove continuously, except for meal and bathroom breaks, until I couldn't stay awake any more. That was from Livermore, CA to Lexington, KY, which was about 2500 miles. After sleeping at a motel in Lexington, KY, I drove the last 500 mile leg back to Richmond, VA. My training from pulling many all-nighter study sessions in grad school enabled me to drive that 2500 mile leg for two days without sleeping.
There's a big difference between a 1950s themed tourist attraction and a real 1950s diner that has been supported by locals. But you're allowed to indulge in the guilty pleasures of Americana tourist traps if you are from overseas. Looks like you are having a lot of fun!
Pretty cool road trip. The longest road trip that I have ever been on is back in 2008. I went with my parents, my sister, and two of my nephews. We drove from Ohio to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Round trip was close to 2,900 mile give or take.
Well, when I was 14, my dad drove us 979 miles from Moncton, New Brunswick to Beltsville, MD in one day. When I was 17, I took a 3 day bus trip with Boy Scouts from Tysons Corner, VA to Cimarron, NM, stops in Memphis, TN and Amarillo, TX. Happy eating, guys; gotta love those biscuits and gravy, food for the long haul. Lol👍
I thought that was beef jerky!! *I recommend freeze dried ice cream, it’s divine.* Now you’re talking my language. Diet Coke, and biscuits and gravy, I’m afraid to get started because I can eat a bunch of biscuits and gravy! 😃
hey guys love ur videos ! i watching from north carolina! all the great american foods started on the east coast! and migrated west! here in north and south carolina we were doing bbq! long before texas was a state!!
I hope you guys get to try biscuits and red-eye gravy sometime. Red-eye gravy is country gravy...with a little coffee in it. The flavor is life altering!
The longest road trip I took was last 4th of July me and my pal drove from Riverside California to Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. With a stop in Wheatland Wyoming, which we managed to make on the first day. 3 days total to get to Pennsylvania .
Use a spoon with the float so you’re not just getting root beer with the straw. As the ice cream melts in the glass it makes the root beer sweeter .. then use the straw ! 😊
I have taken several long trips since I like to explore with my travel trailer. My longest was to see the eclipse Aug 2017 near Grand Tetons. My wife and I took 2 weeks. We went to Devils Tower, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, to Idaho Falls. Then back home through Moab UT (canyonlands) to home (Albuquerque). Trip was 3100 miles not counting all the scenic drives along the way (probably another 1000 miles). I hope you can get out and explore all the great areas of the US (especially the Southwest)
Rootbeer contains wintergreen which is where you are getting the "mouthwash" feeling. Here in the US our toothpaste and mouthwash have spearmint, not wintergreen, so we don't get the "medicine" or "toothpaste" feeling when we drink it. Nicola, next time you order a dessert and find you cannot eat it because of a food allergy, be sure to bring it up to the staff, they will do something to make it right for you!
great Blues Brothers reference, still one of my favs. And as for the highway, just say I-15. The "I" is for interstate, odd numbers run north/south or up and down the country. Even run east/west or across the country
Longest roadtrip - Staten Island, NY to San Antonio TX: for Air National Guard training> On that trip, I got so exhausted, I ended up stopping just before Arkansas and staying at a hotel;. That night a real bad storm hit in Arkansas, causing major damage right on my route!
If you like seafood you should visit Maryland, we’re especially known for crab, and if you go to Ocean City the boardwalk is full of good food and stuff to do, I especially recommend Thrasher’s fries, salt water taffy, pit beef and of course you have to get some crab and shrimp. Even off of the boardwalk there are a lot of good restaurants but 2 I absolutely recommend are Brass Balls Saloon and Bull on the Beach. Non-food related, I have a tradition of going on the haunted house on the boardwalk, it’s been there for decades and changes slightly every so often. It’s not really scary, it’s actually really cheesy but I love it.
The Turtle fudge is based off of the Turtle candy bar. I grew up eating turtle candy, which is not fudge but rather a candy bar that is circular shaped (hence turtle). It has pecans and caramel covered in chocolate.
I used to drive from Oklahoma to Baltimore all the time. Cannonballing it would take me 18 hours or so. Taking my time, stopping to see friends and food would take me 2-3 days.
Oh, I love a road trip, my family and I drove from Philadelphia,Pa to Oakland CA according to google it’s 2,884 mile. I took 3 days and was an amazing adventure driving from state to state. I also took the train from Philly to Flagstaff AZ. It’s my favorite means of transportation. A road trip would be great, how about traveling to the Pacific Northwest since you have been to the Southern states. A side note… I love root beer floats. Normally it’s with vanilla ice cream but I love a root beer float with chocolate ice cream. It’s sooo good! Yes, root beer is an acquired taste that develops from childhood 😊
While you were at Peggy Sue's Diner you mentioned...trains. Have you looked into a train trip with a sleeper car that also has a "dining car"? My fiance and I take trips to Maryland all the time by train. It's not an overnight trip so we don't need a sleeper car and usually just pack a few sandwiches and snacks in a cooler. Anyway, in a train we get to see so much more than driving on a highway...and of course, less traffic like you guys encountered and you don't have to worry about driving in bad weather. You'd really enjoy it. There are train packages for so many days with stops along the way, you just gotta look for them. It really is so much fun on a train. Just a suggestion. OH...they have WIFI too!! 😁
Point of correction, while standing outside Peggy's Diner just north of Barstow, it was pointed out that the train tracks behind go all the way to Vegas, and they DO do that, however, only cargo trains go through Las Vegas. If you want to take a train to get to Vegas, THAT is the nearest stop before you NEED to get on a bus to take the final legs of the journey. They currently building a train track called brightline which is set to connect Vegas to Los Angeles metro, but that doesn't open until 2028.
This would be a longer video, but y’all should take the Amtrak (with a sleeper cabin) from Chicago to San Francisco. Great way to see amazing American scenery.
Back in the day people used to drink Sasparilla. Root Beer was created as an alternative beverage. 😂 Root Beer is divisive...either you love it or you hate it. Lol 😆
If y'all are ever in the Alabama area, ya should check out the forts in Mobile bay. We got Fort Morgan and Fort Gaines. There is also Fort Conde originally constructed by the French. Fort Mims is another fort worth checking out as it was used in the civil war of the Creek Indian Nation.
My family drove to the Florida keys from southern ohio it was 1147miles. 16 hr drive it was insane lol my parents and I took shifts driving. It's was awesome
Speaking of trains, yall should do a cross country train ride. Just put that on your list and...do it. Seems like I just recently watched a video on the top 5 scenic train rides in the US. You should check that out and pick on that works for you.
In 1897, nothing happened! Lololol😂 And the “Your Oder will be ready in…” sign reminds me of being a waitress once and I took out an order to a gentleman that was wrong and I told him, “Just can’t be happy you got something?” 😂 I retained that job for 3 years!P.S. Whataburger has a excellent patty melt!
I think it's wonderful you have succumbed to the POWER of Biscuits and Gravy.
It was but on!y a matter of time.
Pie tasting show? Yes, please
You two are so fun to watch. You always bring a big smile to my face. Thank you.
Ditto...We need more people with that positive attitude!
The BEST way to see America is ROAD TRIPPING!!
I love the Blues Brothers reference. 😂
It had to be done! 😂🤣
@@thebritstry Yes, it did! You were on a mission from God. Oh wait ... that will be the pie tasting!
I hope that you get well soon Nicola ! Awesome looking food there at the Peggy Sue's Diner (FYI for people that don't know but Buddy Holly had a hit song called "Peggy Sue" ) .
My longest road trip was 14 months as I traveled across the U.S.A. hitting every continental state.
I'm supposed to be on a diet, but watching the two of you makes me hungry!!!
You guys have gotten so good at this. I love the voice-overs that sound like a Hollywood advertisement on a daytime TV show, complete with your British accents.
Road trips are all about dawdling. That's what makes it fun!
I love you guys...and your absolute love of Biscuits and gravy that you are counting the days since the last time you had it! :)
Fantastic episode from my favourite UA-camrs. Much love! ❤
I didn't realize that there was so much to see between Vegas and San Diego. I'm sure that we drove that same route to and from Vegas when I was a kid back in the 70's. You guys are my favorite, so I hope your surgery went well and you are feeling great
You two make a beautiful couple. Enjoy your trip enjoy the food.
Thank you for watching, we do enjoy the food!🤗
Diner videos always make me happy, especially watching you guys enjoy it. It makes me happy that the both of you are gaining the same memories as I did
When I was younger I worked at a place called The Donut Hole, the lady there made a turtle brownie that was amazing! Have never found one that compares to hers!
Great video! I loved the road trip. A pie tasting video would be great.
Nicola, there's a difference between a shake and a malt. Personally I love a malt. That extra.bit of malt powder makes a difference.
I prefer shakes. The grit from the malt makes my skin crawl.
Love Ed Debevics!!
Its not at all like E.D.
Yes! Please go on an adventure and taste ALL of the pies!
🥧 ❤ 🥧
When you two were here for the best state fair in the country, you should have visited Mickey's Diner.. open since 1939. It's a rail car!! Come back to the Twin Cities! ❤ Love your videos, and the Brits!
The White gravy is called a sawmill gravy (without the sausage). Peggy Sues is outstanding. We stop by there when we go to Vegas. It's only about an hour from us.
A 5 day trip to see my parents. Worth the trip❤❤❤
Awesome road trip you two, loved the 50's Diner food so much. The Biscuits and gravy but the patty melt was my favorite. Can't wait for the next video!!!
Hello from Sunny Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 love watching your Vlogs when u coming to Australia

Outskirts of San Antonio, here! Used to drive from near Amarillo to see my gparents in Kerrville. Driven all over the country and Canada ❤❤❤
Great job my friends, love the video. Keep up the good work.

Enjoyed going along with you on your road trip. Always fun to watch😀. Hope everything is ok with your surgery.
"[You're] on a mission from God"
Blues Brothers!
Glad you got the reference!🤗
I ran out of gas! I had a flat tire! I didn't have enough money for cab fare! My tux didn't come back from the cleaners! An old friend came in from out of town! Someone stole my car! There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! It wasn't my fault!

Recovering from surgery is a good reason not to fly. Do you know another reason not to fly? It's only 326 miles.
That is very true!😀
Remember, they’re British. In America 100 years is a long time. In England, 100 miles is a long distance! :D
That was funny😂
Best wishes on your recovery. Don't strain yourself.
Having a malt shake and/or root beer float plus biscuits and gravy prior to traveling.
I can tell you've been working on the sound quality. It's perfect now! Great job. 👍
Pies? Yes,please 😋
Our longest road trip took 19 hours from the East Coast to the Midwest US. I drove the entire trip and started to doze off about 2/3 of the way. Something I would never do again nor recommend anyone try!

A road trip would be great, how about traveling to the Pacific
Northwest since you have been to the Southern states.
Root Beer is divisive...either you love it or you hate it.
Longest drive I have ever taken straight was 17 hours. Virginia to mid Maine. Longest road trip was from Virginia to Arizona drove 3 12hour days
Root beer is made from the root bark of the sassafras tree, so you were right about the taste.
My longest road trip was from StPaul, MN to the Arctic Circle in Alaska.
I've been to that McDonald's several times on road trips to Las Vegas.... Cool place!
Chocolate malt reminds me of my childhood when my sister and I used to drink Ovaltine, a chocolate malt granule you mix with milk.
My longest road trip was last summer . I traveled from turbotville, PA to Georgia, then from Georgia to Ohio. Then Ohio back to PA. 1600 miles.
Canter’s Deli in Hollywood. At 3am. Get a pastrami sandwich. Imagine all the movie deals that have gotten cemented in the booths surrounding you.
You have to go to Santa Ana, California and try a diner called Fantastic Cafe and get their pastrami sandwich with a milkshaake
