Brilliant stuff presented by a brilliant man ... cognitive shaping should become the fundamental education material ... just thinking about the power of what he is trying to present us makes me more wise :)
John, I watched the yt on Wisdom. Perspective does rationalize AOM propositions, & Mindfulness processes, thru relevant information, & integrates it, & is consistently updating this info thru openness- learning. Children do imitate. Beautiful to watch. Thank U, Your course will be a hit for relevance today in 2019. I am 74 now, and that is the process....Marvelous to learn...Good job. CDHogarth
If cognition is for the coordination of (ecologically significant) goal directed activity, then what Vervaeke has to say here should contribute to instances of getting cognition to coordinate (ecologically significant) goal directed activity. So precisely which ecologically significant tasks does the information presented above facilitate (leverage) the cognitive management of? Sounds like cognition fell off the wagon.
This is the hour version of the lecture. I don't know if you were paying attention but he explicitly said that he could go into further details about the mechanisms, but it would be a seven hour lecture. Within the brain these processes are higher-order, or tertiary, processes which will be happening within the frontal lobes and the cortex - particularly being directed by the frontal lobes. The interplay between the dorsal-lateral prefrontal cortex, and the orbitomedial prefrontal cortex, is key to the creation of the so-called internal space which allows us to reflect on our mental experiences. They are involved in working-memory, abstract reasoning, inhibition, and other functions.
Gregory Bateson had the best definition of relevance as "a difference that makes a difference" :)
Absolutely my favourite teacher in existence. Brilliant
I love Vervaeke. His talks are so insightful.

Domain-general problem formulation and problem solving, typically.

It's all abstract and vague; how does this actually play out in the brain and manifest itself in reality?

I would recommend his lecture series called "awakening from the meaning crisis". It is basically a class focused on detailing these ideas
