As a young woman in corporate America that was raised by immigrants, this was really great to listen to! I feel like being raised by people who never fully felt like they fit in conditioned me to believe i need yo jump through every hoop possible to make a good impression at work and realistically that hurts ME and the team so much more than helping anyone. Thank you for taking the time to create this!
Hi sheen. Very nice video. I think empathy is an important part of assertiveness, and empathy is the soft power that connects people. We need more empathy in the workplace as it is..and its not happening much. I also feel that expressing empathy upfront dilutes the unbeknownst comparison should it happen away from the conversation. Men are less likely to empathise because of their ego, and competitive nature. This can flare up assertiveness. That said, women with masculine traits are no different but because females empower one another...they are best positioned to understand assertiveness and its power and are more effective in its delivery as opposed to men.
Sometimes, it’s hard to stand up to authority figures due to prior conditioning. Also, obedience is an overrated virtue: It is often a reason to exploit someone.
Thank you so much Sheen!!!!!!You video always gives me a sense of motivation and I could learn more lessons from it! And I really like your speaking style!!!very soft and pleasant!
omg 6:06 is the tip i never knew i needed! not saying no or yes but giving yourself flexibility through options, ugh thanks so much for sharing Sheen 🙏
Thank you so much for this video. Am still in uni doing a legal degree and this really helped me understand the importance of this skill, especially in the field I am in. Keep it up Sheen! 💯
8:54 I think it's not necessary to agree to change our own opinions or try too hard to influence others to change their opinions. End of the day, we can all agree to disagree but we make a decision (this could mean either one party's opinion is taken as the decision or it could be something else entirely such as "wait and see" decision) and then both parties *COMMIT* to it. So that there will be one message going out to the organization instead of _"I wanted to do this but he said that was better, so let's see who's right"._

Yes, the tone with what one says is important but we have to be aware of tone policing.
