As a kid of the 50's we built our own. Nice to see a family work on a need together. This tiny home was built with love and great craftman ship.. Great Job!
Absolutely incredible! I was mesmerized the entire video. You, sir, are a top tier, A+ class, manly man. The level of detail, the ethic, discipline, the wife, kid, neighbor, dog, all just signifies a matured well-developed individual. Superb job. Cheers.

I agree the cost for that size structure for 1 piece of equipment id just bought a tuff-shed. But as a rental property owner Id be happy they built me a nice out house to up o my resale price or rental price.
Framing 10/10! But because you asked - you have to flash window/door frames on all 4 sides usually 3" on the sheathing and 3" onto the frame. Then install the windows with calking all around, but over hang the frame so it clears your siding. Then install counter flashing and then your finish siding. Water is going to come off the window and get between your siding.

Man that sux you spent 15gs for the tiny house build and the city wouldn't let you rent it out. This video taught me to do my research first before I build. Thanks for the share!
Won’t let civilians rent out anything on their own property! But builds apartments everywhere and raises rent through the roof! The world we live in is messed up
@@mylesmccartin878 More apartments/condos actually lowers rent. Its because of zoning that we cant build enough of them so we instead build space inefficient suburbs and expand outwards instead of up. Look up suburban sprawl. But yes in this case its also because Karens with nothing else to do manage to get into positions where they get to control city ordinances and make everyones lives harder for no apparent reason.
The city probably has multiple permit and inspection requirements if going to be used as a dwelling. Also there is no plumbing, so if they're planning on using an outhouse or something that may require additional hazmat permits and have additional requirements so they don't contaminate any groundwater.
Not sure who would rent a bedroom-sized space in your back yard with no bathroom or running water; this was always destined to be a home office or elaborate storage shed.
Hey bro, great video! Quick tip next time instead of using compound for the sheet rock try using easy 45 or easy 20. The compound will dry either in 45 minutes or 20 minutes depending on which one you get. you can essentially put the compound and also sand in one day
You guys built a fabulous detailed step by step creation. I love this tiny home! (I've never watched a whole tiny home video but well Worth it) I think the city was petty of course but I'm so glad you found a perfect use for it! I LOVE THIS VIDEO!
Looks good!!! I’m a framer/remodeler so there are a few things I’d have done different but it doesn’t matter what I think. Good job guys. My suggestions would be to use stretch flashing tape in the corners of your door and window seals. Also, I personally don’t like flashing the bottom of the window flanges. Again, good job you’ll enjoy this space for many years.
Bro I hate to be the bearer of bad news but $15,000 is like 50 years of gym memberships. 🤣 I kid, it looks awesome! Every time I watch one of these full builds, I always get inspired first, and then daunted by just how much time finishing everything takes. It always get to a point that I feel like the build is almost done and I think I could do it myself, and then I'll check the time and I'm not even halfway through it. Mad respect!
in terms of how much time & money you spend commuting to a gym, the possibility of it being full, and peace being priceless, i think building a gym is worth it to some people. 50 years worth of memberships are useless if you’re paying & not going regularly.
You did amazing. I want a home built like what you did. My husband is not seeing my vision. We have a garage and l want to turn it into a tiny home .you did a super great job.l can only pray that my dream home can be build like the one you did Ty.
Yea it might be 50 years of membership but I bet that $15K investment increases the value of his home by $50K. Typically on projects over $10K, people will consult with a financial counselor in whether this is a good investment. So I’m pretty sure he did his homework. Also, it’s his money so he can do whatever he wants with his money. It would be different if it was a loan or his parents money.
Are you a guy or girl Marcus? You need a godly spouse. Pray that the Lord will choose the right person into your life and don’t settle until then. If you are male, His chosen spouse for you will not be the same gender, that is not the way he designed us. First seek a relationship with the Lord. He loves you.
If you get any heat about not having staggered joints on the subfloor, those people are not competent builders. Ignore them. Also, what a great neighbour! One thing I noticed is next time, don't put sealant under your windows, and always shim them up a 1/4" to 1/2". If any moisture gets by your flashing, it will have nowhere to go and will just rot in the window jamb area.
@dan8326 and now I just realized he didn't stagger the drywall 🤦♂️and he ended the joint at the door which is a weak point n can cause the drywall to crack
It looks nice. I’m not even a handyman but I can tell you the foundation is not safe. There is a reason you dig. I had a deck with those, just a deck, not even a gym, and it collapsed and was so unsteady
Unless you live in a place where frost heaving is a consistent issue then his foundation will be fine. Have built and seen plenty of decks on block foundation and they are as good as when they were constructed.
Couple tips: There is no need to stager the sub floor if it's a single sheet, your fine. No need for blocking in the walls. Windows seemed a little tight in the opening, and you should shim them out to square them off. The flashing tape at the windows is weak at the corners, you should use a single strip and turn it up on the sides 150mm (~6"), slit the corner if needed only on the outside. Follow that up with a bowtie gusset to seal off the corner. For the siding you would get a lot better performance if you furred it off the wall a bit. Add vertical strips on the outside that makes an air space between the hosue wrap and the siding to eat it dry out.
It’s amazing. I built tiny house in my backyard also, you gave me some great ideas to improve mine. I’m 64 years old. Anyone can do this. Thanks for the video.
Thank you we really tried our hardest to make this thing as nice as possible. We are just about finished with the next video and should be posting it within the next week or so ✌️
being a home builder i am impressed. only issues i saw were u didnt pour any footers under your blocks which can settle over time if u dont. I DIDNT SEE ANY CENTER FOOTERS OR BLOCKS, maybe 24 inches w no 3 rebar pad..using 2x6 on joists or floor boards are a nono .(THEY CAN SNAP LIKE A TWIG IF U JUMP ).. min 2x8 or 2x10, W /a 4X6 starter (especially since u put a weight bench in there ).. use a window flashing above your windows and and doors , valley flashing on the wonder boards on the bottoms. the rest u did a great job .... nice work boss
*This turned out great! Down the line I would definitely add a tv w/firestick or Echelon mirror to get more workouts in. I would also get a rack to mount my yoga mats and Pilates bar on the wall.*
I want this tiny home gym....wow, great work! Only thing I would change is adding in a water bottle stand right next to the window straight ahead of you when you walk in the door, but that's just my opinion.
Thanks man believe it or not there was a time where I wasn’t handy at all. If you feel inspired to build something just start. The process will teach you a lot. ✌️❤️
Who says you have to let the town know about renting? I have a shed that looks like a tiny house. I use it as a shed but I actually rent it now. No one knows, no one needs to know and I'm getting rent money to help me out
Depends on the area, but a lot of counties/towns have a building code that doesn't allow romex wiring. It also doesn't have AC/Heating, which many places require at least a heating element for livable spaces. Could be any one thing...
It would need plumbing and heating to be a liveable space, which would require permits, which would require certified professionals to complete the project.
I'm proud of you young man. All of you. No short cuts and didn't go on the cheap as they say. You can build my house any day. Again... great job and I appreciate y'all. P.S. I would have applied a vapor barrier on the joists then the decking. But that's just me. Luv y'all. Shout out from Central Texas
I love it. Just FYI I believe it's easier to use a sawzaw (reciprocating saw) with a good blade to cut out windows, just drill a hole with a paddle bit to get your blade through and started and you're good to go. Much easier than the bulky router. And cheaper $$ blades for the sawzaw than router bits.
Very impressive. Having been involved in multiple building and remodel (down to the bones) projects, I really appreciated the thoughtfulness you and your wife put into the design and execution. Enjoyed the video!
In the future, with that floor, a couple of batons 1x1 tacked under neath the insulation, gives a nice finish, and adds to “tightness” of build, if it matters for this , but for a tiny home Iwould, great build man!
Looks phenomenal, great work! Thank you, thank you, thank you, for not making this look easy. At first I was like, "oh cool, I should do that," then as I continued to watch I realized, "I really shouldn't do that, it'll be a thorn in my side," then by the end I was just thinking, "yeah, I would hate doing that, but it's good that people like you are around to do these things!" ☺️ Legit though, great work, sorry it didn't pan out like you'd hoped with the rental.
Man, I have a comment that everybody else is saying good job bro that is a beautiful gym and you got one piece of equipment for five different exercises. Awesome option Chris Tafs.
its kind of amazing to live at a time when i can just execute any idea i want to and do it pretty well the first time just by looking it up online. our ancestors had to use crude tools, crude knowledge and they had to source everything themselves. I can just go out and find working power tools for free, materials for free, and build just about anything id like for very cheap if i have the patience. its a great time to be alive
15k???? I see about 2500 in material there. If that. And hes doing a decent job. Also, it.doesnt need a permit. Its less than 200 sq ft isnt connected to the house and is setting onn a floating foundation. Jesus poeple are dumb and unskilled., so many youtube armchair contractor experts chiming in. My gawd the cringe
Never nail with a brad nailer like that with your other hand near the end move back a bit on the other board your holding. If the brad nail hits a knot it can curl and shoot out into your hand ask me how i know
@@ImYourWattson maybe in labor if he had paid someone to do all that extra unnecessary mostly aestetic intricasies added on the front wall. Even he was being fully transparent when admitted it looks cool but wasnt practical, i see this often where homeowners see something flashy in a magazine and want it until learning whats involved with it
This is nice. I especially love the windows across the top of the wall. Let's light in but folks can't see in and you don't have to buy shades/blinds/curtains for privacy. Where I live though, it would need to have mini split or a AC/heater combo built in to the wall or I'd die of heat exhaustion in the summer and freeze in the winter. It's currently 96F and feels like satan's furnace in my yard. I don't want to know the temperature in my outbuilding. It's insulated but not climate controlled. Thanks for sharing your efforts in building this tiny!
Nice job. You did ask for critique so i will give my 2 cents. I have a few points #1 Its best to dig out the top 12 inches of topsoil from the blocks under the building. The top soil is not compacted and still organic material that will continue to decompose. It's best to have a solid foundation. You could have used piers and set that on top of block and beam. #2 The window tape was not used correctly. There's a sequence of overlapping around the edges to promote proper run off of moisture that wasn't achieved. You cam also buy somw tape that specifically has the corners already built into them ans cover 100% of it. #3 white romex is usually 14 gauge wire and not correct to be used for electrical receptacles, you wanna use yellow 12 gauge for that and yellow for any fixtures that will potentially have a celing fan in them. I di have a question about that insulation. In texas fiberglass batting us commonly used here. To my understanding its not toxic. Its glass. My concern with what you used it that it leaves bigger gaps that affects the r value and it will eventually compress on the vertical walls and fsll to the bottom like it used to do on the trailer homes back in tbe day. Other than that. Nice work.
Man.... Loved this install from start to finish. Great neighbor, great wife, can't wait to put this in my back yard. Hubby wants a home gym also. Thank You SOOO much for posting this!
I work in construction and with builders and you did a better job then some people I’ve seen out there! Good work and for it being a DIY it’s definitely great work

imo I believe this is one the best solutions to provide young people or anyone that don't want to have a burden of paying a high mortgage/tax or rent. So with no mortgage, you have more freedom, time, and money to plan your future and do what you like with less burden. This will be a perfect project if someone is interested in building a home.

(I've never watched a whole tiny home video but well Worth it)
I think the city was petty of course but I'm so glad you found a perfect use for it!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!
Can’t rent a dwelling without a toilet
Dude is a perfectionist. Great job!. I wish you had the blueprint for those that like to follow your footsteps.
Thanks really appreciate it 🤙

But, who wants to dress up to drive to the gym? I wasted 4 years of a gym membership because I actually hate people.
You did amazing. I want a home built like what you did.
My husband is not seeing my vision. We have a garage and l want to turn it into a tiny home .you did a super great job.l can only pray that my dream home can be build like the one you did Ty.
This youtube video paid for it by you and everyone else haha
Yea it might be 50 years of membership but I bet that $15K investment increases the value of his home by $50K. Typically on projects over $10K, people will consult with a financial counselor in whether this is a good investment. So I’m pretty sure he did his homework. Also, it’s his money so he can do whatever he wants with his money. It would be different if it was a loan or his parents money.
this is why im being patient and waiting for my husband....cause this is what i want to help him do
Yes!! 😅 I need mine to be bigger. I have too much equipment 😩
Are you a guy or girl Marcus? You need a godly spouse. Pray that the Lord will choose the right person into your life and don’t settle until then. If you are male, His chosen spouse for you will not be the same gender, that is not the way he designed us. First seek a relationship with the Lord. He loves you.

You and your wife did an outstanding job..
Don’t forget Tom 😂 😂
Next time you install windows think about putting shims on bottom plate to give space for insulation.
You did a wonderful job. It turned out really beautiful. I just hate that they would not let you rent that out, but it is what it is. Great job.
Thanks so much ❤️❤️
Spectacular job young kid.....You're the type this young generation should be looking up to
If you get any heat about not having staggered joints on the subfloor, those people are not competent builders. Ignore them. Also, what a great neighbour! One thing I noticed is next time, don't put sealant under your windows, and always shim them up a 1/4" to 1/2". If any moisture gets by your flashing, it will have nowhere to go and will just rot in the window jamb area.
How do you stagger joints on an 8' subfloor with 8' sheathing?
@@dan8326Exactly that would mean cutting every sheet or every other sheet.. the fact it was even mentioned makes me wonder
@dan8326 and now I just realized he didn't stagger the drywall 🤦♂️and he ended the joint at the door which is a weak point n can cause the drywall to crack
This was oddly satisfying to watch😊 You all did a great job.
But why did it collapse? People build foundations like this in the Alaskan bush and they last 50 years plus. I'm just really curious what went wrong.
@pressureflipin1992 maybe they built on soft topsoil?
@@mikerooney7600 almost had to be
I would agree sonotube/concrete…I would rather be safe than sorry or at the very least put a nice layer of gravel under those blocks
So this is what it's like to finish something you start lol. This space would be a great in-law suite... We never got to see the railing LEDs :(
Couple tips:
There is no need to stager the sub floor if it's a single sheet, your fine.
You got 1 multi-purpose weight machine in there and enough room to turn around 👍 Amazing, great use of outdoor space.
Love the preframing all sides making installation: seamless. Thanks for showing the expertise.
This was a joy to watch. I don't know you from a can of paint yet here I am, super proud of your effort!
I can’t believe Sadie is only 2. She is so adorable. Very smart little girl 💞
It’s amazing. I built tiny house in my backyard also, you gave me some great ideas to improve mine. I’m 64 years old. Anyone can do this. Thanks for the video.
Thank you we really tried our hardest to make this thing as nice as possible.
We are just about finished with the next video and should be posting it within the next week or so ✌️
I don't think I can.

@@buildersblueprint Dude said "anyone" can build a house like that. I beg to differ.
being a home builder i am impressed. only issues i saw were u didnt pour any footers under your blocks which can settle over time if u dont.
Thanks for all this info man I appreciate the advice and I’ll be sure to keep upping my game with every build. 🤙
*This turned out great! Down the line I would definitely add a tv w/firestick or Echelon mirror to get more workouts in. I would also get a rack to mount my yoga mats and Pilates bar on the wall.*
WOW, that is BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations!
neighbor get's best supporting role! lol this is so cool! I had to remind myself I wasn't watching HGTV. Great editing man!
I want this tiny home gym....wow, great work! Only thing I would change is adding in a water bottle stand right next to the window straight ahead of you when you walk in the door, but that's just my opinion.
You make this look so easy! I'm not even the slightest bit "handy" so I'm in awe of the craftsmanship.
Thanks man believe it or not there was a time where I wasn’t handy at all.
If you feel inspired to build something just start. The process will teach you a lot. ✌️❤️
I LOVE thie look of this building! I can't believe the town wouldn't let you rent it out!! Awesome for a gym space too tho!!
Who says you have to let the town know about renting? I have a shed that looks like a tiny house. I use it as a shed but I actually rent it now. No one knows, no one needs to know and I'm getting rent money to help me out
At least until your neighbors complain. 🙄@@jesv4026
Depends on the area, but a lot of counties/towns have a building code that doesn't allow romex wiring. It also doesn't have AC/Heating, which many places require at least a heating element for livable spaces. Could be any one thing...
you would rent that little shack?
It would need plumbing and heating to be a liveable space, which would require permits, which would require certified professionals to complete the project.
I loved that you use the wool insulation!
❤️
This is just epic🎉..u n wifey did an awesome job... keep on...💯
@@nicholasikubi1355 thanks so much. ❤️
Very clean and meticulous build. Nice job!
This is beautiful, and thanks for the detailed view into how it was built. I learned a lot, and feel inspired. Well done
Adding the wood element to the outside took it to the next level, beautiful work brother!!!!

As long as they enjoy doing this together, it doesn't matter how much it cost.
15 k to store 1 piece of equipment is wild I like the video nice job it came out looking nice
Except its terribly built, 15k for the foundation crumble and unpermitted work
If the brad nail hits a knot it can curl and shoot out into your hand ask me how i know
@@MAGA_EXTREM1ST I was thinking that too. I didnt see $15K in material at all.
@@ImYourWattson maybe in labor if he had paid someone to do all that extra unnecessary mostly aestetic intricasies added on the front wall. Even he was being fully transparent when admitted it looks cool but wasnt practical, i see this often where homeowners see something flashy in a magazine and want it until learning whats involved with it
we need to see how you rack your weights with a 8 inch clearing.
The big, bad wolf would be able to blow this house down. Great job.
Shorty was caked up 8:00
I thought I was the only one. Gyatt! 😂
That's some legit framing!
Dope. Not only the house but you made an awesome video!!!! Very entertaining.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank You SOOO much for posting this!

imo I believe this is one the best solutions to provide young people or anyone that don't want to have a burden of paying a high mortgage/tax or rent. So with no mortgage, you have more freedom, time, and money to plan your future and do what you like with less burden.
