Love the sound of that 567 prime mover with the roots blower spooling up . Reminds me of watching the Western Pacific Geeps switching and kicking cars when I was a kid in the late 1960s ❤️🤩
As a normally aspirated engine goes, the 567a-b-c didn't have a roots blower (turbo). Those were added for more horsepower during the GP-20 era. However, the sound you're hearing IS the awesome traction motors and the main generator whining right under the cab and behind the cab wall respectively. It's great! 😄👍
Grew up watching GP7s and an occasional GP9 working the NC State Port and other businesses in North Carolina. Love the souond of that locomotive; good to see it in use.
Let's not forget the old f-units and some gp7's as well as 9's that were unmuffled and so loud you wouldn't hear a roots blower, just pure deafening 567 roar. Roots blower sound or not, they're all great sounds.
A machine dating from way back to the mid-Fifties. Motorists might take a longer look knowing that. These were used by the Alaska Railroad to switch freight cars around the Port of Anchorage a half century ago, having the notable addition of a box atop the far end (for heat I imagine). Unbelievable any are still around
It does, it runs on an as needed basis for East Penn. Out of the dozen times I've passed by it, this was the only time I caught it moving by pure luck.
This GP9 has been modified. GP9s came with EMD 567C with 2 Roots blowers,This unit has a EMD 645 Turbo engine as you see the single exhaust and the distinctive EMD turbo sound.
Actually I go by this train quite a lot and it seems to always be in the same spot. I don’t know if it’s even used anymore. Apparently it was built in 1957! For a 66 year old train this thing looks great
Love the highhood! That one's on my list 😉

Very nice. Purely mechanical so even 60+ years on from when it was built, they can keep it in operating condition and it still does it job perfectly.
Awesome to see these old units still going strong. The high hood 9’s are just a classic.
Love seeing classic EMD's still on the rails putting in work. Even more rare is seeing an old GP that is still set up to operate long hood forward.

Nice catch of ESPN 1701! I like catching that engine.
Excellent!!! I love these high hoods too. Great footage.
Awesome footage of that beauty!
In my years of railroading, I never operated a GP 9. SD 9, I ran, but when I started in 98, most of these unit's were gone..
Amazing video
Thanks!
That 9 whine! Love it!
and the 7 whine too , both were Roots blown 🤩

Long Live the GP9.
Look! It's another 1701! The Enterprise lives!
The horn on the gp9 is something different but I like it
"Theres another train coming in, IT THE ENTERPRISE"

I live in the area and those cars are just stayed there for now
It would be interesting to know the heritage of this unit since it was built to run long hood forward.
good job
Hear it sing!
That four-legged small frame on top of the wagons; can anyone tell what it is / what it's for, please?
Those are the covers that go over the steel coils to protect them during shipping.
train control systems (TCS) should have used this engine for their recordings. sounds great!
Do you know if this train still works? I always see it in the same spot at the location this video was filmed

Liked and subbed!
This loco was originally built for the PRR.
It should say "NCC" on its left side road number plate!
Nice video
I have 2 sd9 for my layout. One Burlington northern and one that is a private line built by my father inlaw
a symphony
Hi
would it be ok if I used a clip from this video in my upcoming UA-cam video?
Same goes for any of my videos, as long as you credit me for it, you can use it.
Nice video
👍👍👍🇮🇳
What are the cars shown at 5:57??
Coil cars i think
@@strenesperu9956 They're coil cars, yes.
I have a HO scale GP-9!

It has dual exhaust . At 7:25 you can see it.
Sounds like a 567 roots blown engine to me. I can easily see 2 exhaust ports...the one closest to the cab blows a lot more smoke than the other one.
1701 is most definitely not turbocharged, and is still equipped with its EMD 567.
Sounds like a Roots blower on it to me , just like the - 7 and - 9 use to sound 👍
Foamers lol
Its not rare
