The Conway Scenic Railroad in New Hampshire has a GP7 in operation and I was fortunate to see it when I was on vacation there and film it as it pulled the short passenger train behind it. These classics will NEVER get old. Thanks for sharing
Former SOO GP7s 378 and 383 survive and operate out of Salford Ontario on the OSR. Different paint schemes, and I've been inside the cab of 383 while it was waiting in Woodstock Ontario
@jonborowski9781 Thank you for the comment! I was told they moved those air tanks to the top of the locomotive in order to make room for a larger fuel tank below. The torpedo tubes are for air, not fuel.
Sorry, they are air tanks! The water tanks are on the bottom where the air tanks should be. Locomotives that hauled pass. cars had this modification new from EMD.
@@jims6323 The original comment was poorly phrased. They're air tanks, but the reason they're on the roof is that the space between the trucks was needed for a water tank, not extra fuel as the video claims.
You continue to delight we fans with your videos. I really enjoy that you blend some history in with your video of current railroad activities. Your work really compliments Bob's work from years ago. Thanks for your work.
Great quadcopter shots! Since I live in the area, I make a point to drive by the grain terminal once a week or so, just to check on how the old girls are doing. Thanks for the video!
I hope to see 4 axles make a come back, FORD and GM are coming back with Sedans and Station Wagons ya never know 🚂🚂! That’s great Geep action,THANK YOU 🤞
Torpedo tanks up top because Dual Service geeps needed room for steam generator water tanks for car heating below frame next to fuel, not bigger fuel tanks.
Both of these are on sale for $80,000 if anyone cares to save one of them from the scrapper's torch. Buy one and park it at a local museum to play with in your free time. MTM, GSRM, 261, etc. c:
When you said the air tanks were moved to the roof for a longer fuel tank it didn't agree with what I knew. I wanted to be sure so i checked a diesel spotters guide and confirmed my info. Passenger geeps had steam generators in the short hood, and had the air tanks moved to make room for a water tank for the steam generator
There is a book about the Soo Line "The Saga of The Soo". It has a photo of a passenger GP9 leading a F B-unit on a passenger train. They are both painted in the original maroon and gold paint scheme. Perhaps in 1954, Bugs Bunny popped out of the ground at La Grange Il, saw these freshly painted diesels and said, "What A Maroon!"? The "News Soo White" is actually a very light gray. The Soo Line passenger trains were not speedy, they maybe travelled at a maximum speed of 49 mph.
I wonder how long they will sit on those tracks, I just googled mapped the location and they don't even show up... would love to drive out there and photograph them.
Are those EMD GP9 the only ones with Blomberg 2axel trucks?, could you do a close up video of a 2axel truck( without the engine on top). Thank you and good video.👍
With how much the co-op wants for these, there is absolutely no way they will get preserved (or sold, for that matter) without a miracle and/or very poor investment.
@ Yup. $15K is probably the high end of what someone would realistically give for one, and they’d still need more than twice that worth of work just to move off the property.
Do people really buy heavy equipment from Facebook Marketplace? If I saw something like that for sale there, I'd just assume it was a joke or fraud. Can't help thinking that, if the elevator really wants to sell them, there are better places to do it.
Those should be preserved in a museum. Sad to see them rotting like that.
Hopefully they get into a museum
Not rotting, but for sale !
The Illinois Rail Museum should get them. I wander what they are asking for them?
@@JohnnyStoner-me4ss IRM doesn't need anymore equipment!!!
Grain elevators do not gave the kind of money to buy brand new nice locomotives, they have to get cheap ones like these.
A couple of prime examples for a model RR weathering project.
They should be preserved in a museum. Nothing sounds like a 567 revving up.

I really hope these get saved and restored, especially as a pair, sad to see old geeps just sitting around like this
Awesome video and hopefully they will be at a museum sometime soon. Enjoyed watching and have a wonderful rest of your day. Steve
Thank you for dragging me here. I can buy all these locomotives. Just give me some time. Seriously 🎉😂❤

Excellent video. Good ole days
Torpedo tubes are on the top not for extra fuel capacity for extra range, but rather water capacity for steam heating for the passenger equipment

Very nice video Douglas! Love the sound of EMD 567 engines.
Love the sound of the GP9’s at work. Regret not chasing them more when I lived in the QC.
Love the sounds those horns!
I recall seeing GP9 103 leading a pair or ex-BN SD40-2s crossing the Mississippi during Train Festival 2011.
Sad to see them go.

God Dam I Remember When These Where Brand New
I love the sound of them ❤
Jolly good show !
There’s an old video of these two working the Davis turn somewhere

Does anyone have a link for these on Marketplace? I can't find them.
@Memphisdoug I got you! Here it is; lemme know if it doesn't work.

I think i remember seeing these for sale on FB marketplace a while ago
9:25 Ahhh, those were the days. Shiftable load with no bulkheads next to a tank car. At least it's not hazmat but...

$79,900 apiece. Listed as EP9's...😂

told the colfax railroad museum about them, hopefully they buy em
They remind me of toucans! Great vid as usual.

I really like this video. What is the New Ulm elevator using now for power?
Far as I can tell, the last GP9 operation on MRL was Independence Day, this year. ('24)
I wonder how long they will sit on those tracks, I just googled mapped the location and they don't even show up... would love to drive out there and photograph them.
Remember, these engines where running when SS United Stated ship was sailing
I got pics of them in New Ulm, sad to hear they're for sale, maybe they'll go to happier homes.
Hopefully they will be saved.
1:08 they wanted to be a steam engine so bad
Man, those old locos look tired.
Let’s buy them
Here’s hoping that this pair of old friends finds a buyer or buyers and that the they get another lease on life.
Are those EMD GP9 the only ones with Blomberg 2axel trucks?, could you do a close up video of a 2axel truck( without the engine on top). Thank you and good video.👍
Are you kidding? Almost every 4 axel GP from EMD had this style truck, not just GP-7/9's!
What do you search to find these on fb marketplace

79k each

I want them on the RCPE
You to trespass, foam, and want to climb on more equipment don't you?
Do them like they are doing the big boy.

Of course they do.....I almost bought a BOEING jet engine on Saturday but some guy beat me to it
What a smoke show alco prime mover?😂
They’re dead? Oh no…
