Awwwwww. You made me cry 😢😭😿. This video made me remember my childhood days when we enjoyed watching Black and White TV. I remember all the music videos and cartoons I used on my daddy's TV. Thanks a lot for taking me back into the 1990s.
Oh, this looks nearly identical to the tv i had in my room as a kid. I'm fairly certain this is the type I had. When you pulled it out of the box, it all looked so familiar. I had that tv from 88 or 89 until the late 90s. I let a friend borrow it and never got it back. Didn't care too much about it at the time but man do i miss having it now. Thanks for the video, now i know what to look for.
This set is adorable! I love those old dial tuners. The woodgrain is great too. I'm looking to "upgrade" my guest room set and while I'll probably go with a Sony Trinitron if I run across one that looks like this in a thrift store it'll be hard to say no.
In the 70s my parents gave me a small Zenith black and white when I was about 10. I used it always. I think I had it up until the early 90s. I did have a color model from 1980 that my dad gave me. I still used until analog went away in 09. Even with a converter box, I could not pick up any channels so I finally dropped it off as the Salvation Army store. Thanks for video. I love old electronics.
OMG What a sight for sore eyes!!! I use to have the exact same TV in my bedroom that was bought for me Christmas of 1987 (I was 10) and then it graduated to on top of the fridge in the kitchen around 1990 when I got handed down our old Hitachi color TV from the living room. Wow what a blast from the past!!
I found a tv almost identical to this last year poking out of a trash can. Its a Pulser from Canadian Tire and was made in 84' and had the speaker in the front. Just needed the power cord replaced and it works great. I use it out in the car port to watch local tv in the summer. Of course i have to use a converter but its a great tv.
I very recently got a 9" black and white Philips CRT monitor from 1987. It also came with schematics and would you believe it uses a 555 timer IC for the horizontal oscillator? It has separate sync inputs, it wants TTL levels for video input (it does work with arcade board level signals which are around 2V though, but composite levels will be completely blank) and the manual states it goes to 18kHz without adjustment so I guess it was designed to replace not only the monitor in a Commodore PET, but also double as an MDA/Hercules PC monitor. With some relatively easy modifications it could also go in those early luggable PCs. Right now I use it to test/troubleshoot arcade circuit boards. I have a couple of black and white TVs that have a blank spot on Channel 1 and their tuners just don't output anything if you select it, making it easy to install an AV input (given almost all of them are transformer and not hot chassis sets).
Right from the time I was born 1979 up until 2004 August Black and White TVs have had been my daily soap. Initially SONODYNE (1980 - 1986), NELCO (1986 - 1993) and finally VIDEOCON (1993 - 2004). Then had an upgradation to SONY WEGA in August 2004 and the very first colour Television.
Interestingly, they didn't actually own Citizen. The Citizen brand was (and possibly still is?) owned by Jutan International Ltd. Samsung just manufactured their TVs in the same way Funai and Orion manufactured their VCRs. Similar to how Hitachi and Panasonic manufactured RCA VCRs. There's not a lot of info out there, but here's a near write-up. They point out that the Jutan International initals are in the Citizen and Candle brand logos.
The VHF antenna only uses one terminal for these types of TVs you are showing. The internal wiring was probably made so that only one terminal was needed to pick up VHF channels. I have several little RCA TVs that used one terminal from the antenna and the channels came in well when analog was still alive.
Back in my high school days the mid 70s I saved up and bought a 12 inch B&W TV for $79 and set it up in my bedroom. I put a splitter on the Cable TV and ran it up into my bedroom. I laid back and watched TV in bed; no colour and no remote but I was in bliss.
I set up my own analog cable system in my house, which also passes through the digital broadcast channels as well. I did a few videos about it, here's one: ua-cam.com/video/EIYrJRZ6zDY/v-deo.html
Sort of. It will play analog signals just like an older colour TV. You could even watch broadcast analog TV channels in the mid 2000s on a black and white TV from the 1950s, that's the beauty of NTSC colour - it was fully backwards compatible with black and white. But since analog isn't broadcast anymore, you would need a VCR, a DTV box, or a DVD player with an RF modulator.
I have a bunch of RF modulators connected to the coax in my house. There's some raspberry pi computers connected and randomly playing old TV shows. I did a few videos about it a while ago.
I have the exact same TV in the original, never opened, sealed box. It was not kept anywhere near any musty smells. Anyone have an idea if it's worth anything?
WOW!!!!dude.... I owned that same tv. I bought it when I was a teenager . There is a reason for the "DOT" the short story goes like this. in the ancient days, before the dawn of CABLE ... or if you lived in rural area where CABLE was not possible -like me- ..."the FCC officially eliminated CHANNEL no.1, because the frequencies used for this channel were not suitable for TV transmission. There was too much static and the picture quality.... was complete crap
The FCC actually eliminated it all the way back in 1948, not because of picture quality issues but because fixed & mobiles services needed more bandwidth, and channel 1 had been used for community low power stuff. Radio-Electronics magazine had a really good article about it in March 1982: archive.org/details/radio_electronics_1982-03/page/n37/mode/2up I'm wondering if maybe Channel 1 existed in (South) Korea and that is why the Korean made sets had the extra position. Wikipedia says they otherwise used the same channel frequency assignment for VHF. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_channel_frequencies#Americas_(most_countries),_South_Korea,_Taiwan,_Burma_(Myanmar)_and_the_Philippines
I think it may have come from early radios being called radio sets. This made more sense because you had the tuner and audio amplifier portion separate on the very early radios. When you could buy a product in one case that had the power supply, tuner, amplifier, and speaker all together people just still called it a radio set. With TVs though, I don't think they were ever sold in a modular fashion (though I could be wrong on this). I think the older terminology just continued, since you had a picture tube, audio receiver, tuner and speaker all in one package.
I'll be honest, while I would prefer a Color Variant more, it feels way more Immersive to watch Content that was made in 4 by 3 Ratio on a CRT. 11:12 Especially shows like The Simpsons which for the most part was in that format for the longest time. Ever seen the original Shorts? ua-cam.com/video/KzIa1p3aR0A/v-deo.html

I was one of those families that had a black and white tv well into the 90's
On 90s?........On 90s???? Congratulations...
I like seeing old stuff like this

It's beyond belief that half a century has passed and such a beautiful product.

I have a few. Sony’s Samsung’s zeniths and a few others if yours still looking.
I have this exact set unopened and still sealed.

I just got a television identical to this. Same model number and all. Man does it ever look good!

Yeah, it worked, that's totally insane...🤯 That TV was made a year after I was born...👌🏼 I was born in October of 1986...👍🏼
Why wouldn’t it work? It was still in the box. Its new as in unused.
Old is gold❤❤❤
Wow 🤩 amazing 🤩 tv 📺

wow. that really is awesome. I really enjoyed that.
I remember having a similar black & white tv back in 2001.
Good video. since Panama, central america Greetings.
Perfect for watching black and white films

I remember my grandfather had a colour tv similar to this in Australia. It was an AWA brand. I remember the clicking knlbs and the nixietube display.

super superb video I❤ B/W TV
I use to play Atari on one of those and the logo for Citizen and Candle looked like the Atari Logo. Who else came here from AtariAge?
0:47 I think the correct phrase is new old stock (NOS).
That TV was made by Samsung in South Korea.
Yes 14:50
DO YOU HAVE A VHS PLAYER
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁
Thank you !
How did you get analog signal
I set up my own analog cable system in my house, which also passes through the digital broadcast channels as well.
I did a few videos about it, here's one: ua-cam.com/video/EIYrJRZ6zDY/v-deo.html
Wait so does it play shows that you get on any tv but just black and white
One question....how did you get it to where you can use the knobs to change the channels?
I have a bunch of RF modulators connected to the coax in my house. There's some raspberry pi computers connected and randomly playing old TV shows. I did a few videos about it a while ago.
As an American I see Canada is still broadcasting in the old analog system? Is this correct?
No, our analog shut down within a few years of the US. I have an internal setup in my house with a bunch of modulators.
Do we need cable for channel?
Super👍👍
How did you get channels to work on that? I thought analog TV was gone.
Do you have any unboxed tv sets please tell me how to buy them online.
I have this exact same TV still sealed in its original box. Not stored in a musty place. Like new.
Today where you found this tv?
Garage sale, quite a few years ago
Now id like to add A yellow and a Blue plastic Overlay to that Display
Bro lots of memories 🤣😅😅 WOW living in the Bahamas played Nintendo on one of those lol 😆😆 WOW Indiana Jones and the temple of dome
I have two black and white 📺
From the 80s . Where can I get rid of them?
I have the exact same TV in the original, never opened, sealed box. It was not kept anywhere near any musty smells. Anyone have an idea if it's worth anything?
Hard to say, I would check listings around your area and ebay sold prices to get an idea. Used stuff like this is hard to price, since it's so niche.
I had that TV and I adjusted the color settings to 100 and it looked like old colors
No color settings, since it's black and white
Adrian's Digital Basement had a video just the other day where he fixed an almost identical Samsung TV.
I saw that video! These were very common TVs back then.
I want one!
I have the exact same TV in a sealed box. Never opened. Stored in a non musty environment.
why would anyone give this thumbs down man that's so wrong.
WOW!!!!dude.... I owned that same tv. I bought it when I was a teenager . Why do folks call a TV a "set"? Set of what? It's not a set of components you assemble. It's one box.
I think it may have come from early radios being called radio sets. This made more sense because you had the tuner and audio amplifier portion separate on the very early radios. When you could buy a product in one case that had the power supply, tuner, amplifier, and speaker all together people just still called it a radio set.

Because it sets on top of something. Its is a set up of different components already assembled though.
LOVE IT
I want this tv
Make me an offer. I have the exact one still sealed in the original box.
💕
🇮🇳😮👍very nice and easy for me

We have a Nikkon TV
I want one
Back when cheapo eletronics came from Japan/Korea, not China.
It's crazy to think that in the 1960s Japanese made electronics were considered cheap and inferior. That sure changed quickly.
Good sets these were, crt sets are still made in china
Something not made in china
The Simpsons look better in black and white
Even my iPad Pro has a bigger screen
Owo
Samsung Electronics
Saying adorable is a bit strange just saying.
I don't see why, it's a perfectly cromulent word.
probnot's tech really? I think not.
