What an epic journey--great videography, great music and it really shows what the CRF 300 Rally is capable of, although I am sure a bit more relaxed touring (versus high speed highway) would be its sweet spot. Still, though, the fact it was able cruise at higher speeds than what you'd typically go on this bike is impressive indeed. Well that answers my questions about how capable the bike is when an interstate highway is unavoidable. Great video. I hope your Oregon coast cruise allows for a slower more enjoyable pace. I can’t wait to get my Rally later this year. Take care. I look forward to your next posts.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! - I agree, the Oregon coast trip should be more laid back & a natural fit for the 300L Rally with 60mph two lane roads. I can't believe how long some people are waiting for their CRF300Ls - hopefully you get yours soon👍
After years of wanting a bike, I’ve decided I’m taking the plunge. The rally is on my short list and seems it fills my imagined role nicely. Planning on buy a camper and traveling so having a lightweight bike to explore with would just make the experience better
I'd have to agree with your reasoning here - The Rally does seem like a good bike to pair with a camper for traveling + exploration. I'd also say that the Rally is a ridiculously easy bike to ride: Low seat height, low weight, light clutch, hard to stall, won't wheelie on power, & relatively smooth power delivery makes it a great first bike. Ride safe my friend🍻
Bought a ‘17 250 rally for my first ever bike. I really wanted a 300 after all the improvements over the 250 mostly because of inflated used prices, but couldn’t find one available. Ended up getting a decent deal on the 250 I have. I loved this video, it inspires me to get out even more, but I can’t imagine getting my 250 up to 80mph or spending any serious time on an interstate. Either you are a much better and much lighter rider than me, or the 300 is a serious upgrade to the 250!
I'm definitely no better rider than you - I'm just a regular guy. I'd say I'm about 195lbs fully geared up. I don't have direct experience with the 2017 Rally so I can't directly comment on how it compares with that. I will say though that I did dyno test the bike (you can find the video on my channel) and it makes about 28 hp at the crank so not a whole lot of power. The bike did fine at the higher speeds but was at its limit - I think the more natural cruising speed of the bike is around 70-75 mph. Glad to hear that the video inspires you👍

as a cb300r owner, if the crf300l speedometer is 10% optimistic as well and gears quite short too, i suggest +1 front sprocket, less buzy highway ride and much more accurate speedometer reading (from 10% to 2.5% off). it will sacrifice some low speed off road riding but on the road it becomes more usable and relaxed

A great video and very relaxing. The little guy did very well considering all the freeway/highway riding for hours on end, hour after hour. You had a few breaks for off road riding which must have broken the monotony. For me I would like some thing with just a little more power riding those large distances on the highway, but not a huge amount of weight whilst still retaining the light feel for when off road. The US is a beautiful country and big!
Yeah, I'd actually agree with you that the bike could use a bit more power. As I see it though, there is no alternative motorcycle currently available that would work better for my needs. If Honda comes out with a CRF450L Rally with long service intervals, I'll be first in line🍻
You know I thought about this! It would have been such a long day of riding to fit it into this trip but maybe next time round. Hope you're doing well & staying cool in all this ridiculous heat👍
It only proves how much *discomfort* this one rider, in particular, can withstand, riding a motorcycle that was never designed and built for extended, high-speed (80+ mph), highway travel.
@@kenhoward3512 Right. Also, running an engine at 8400rpm for hours on end isn't going to contribute to it's longevity, whether it's a Honda or not. Bikes like that, like you said, are made for commuting around town, riding on trails, or afternoon back road trips.
@@howardelzey2760 I don't know about Ken, but I've got a 1995 BMW R1100RT *and* a 2019 CRF250 Rally, both bought new and I haven't bought any other bikes in between -- I traded a K100RT on the R1100, and I at that point also had a late 80s XR600 which I sold some years later. For sure the R1100 is better for doing 1000 km on highways in a day, but I've done plenty of 200 to 300 mile days on the Rally already, and there are plenty of places in this video I'd not take the BMW, or would ride it a *lot* slower. If my aim is exploring ("adventure") not Point A to Point B then I take the little 250.
Glad you found the video helpful! - This video definitely showcases what makes the Rally great. I would never have attempted this with the non Rally. The windscreen, fairing, & larger fuel tank really make a difference for longer distance riding. Ultimately though, it depends on what suits you best as a rider👍
Great video, I want a abs equiped rally so bad. Was shocked to see a bike able to do highway speeds and dirt, with such long maintenance intervals. Was 80 mph hard to maintain? I need at least 75 to keep up around here. 80 is looking for trouble, but needed to pass.
The large windscreen, fairing, 6th gear, rubber inserts on the pegs, and the bar end weights really make this more comfortable then you might think. I also own a Yamaha WR250R and that would have been a much, much more uncomfortable trip using that bike (I'm guessing that would be somewhat similar to your XT600 as it's got no windscreen or fairing but it does have a 6th gear)
When I was a little less than half my current age I had an XR600 which was a monster off road but killed me riding even two hours on the road. I've done a few mixed tarmac and gravel and worse 200+ mile days on my 250 Rally and I'd be ok with 300 on the highway. A thousand miles in 36 hours does seem a little extreme. I'd definitely get a different seat first. And it would be summer-only, unlike my BMW.
In my opinion, 1000 miles in 36 hours is not an easy task on any motorcycle, not even on a touring motorcycle. That is what makes it worth doing for me though, that's what makes it memorable - the fact that it's hard.
Absolutely beautiful video mate. I couldn't decide on the T7 or the 300 rally due to cruising speeds, watching your video shows the 300 will be more than fine. Would also love to see a video of your setup, GPS etc
Great video, friend. I live in SW Washington, this looks like a great road trip, perfect for a dual sport. What is the off-road section in Banks Lake called?
Thanks! The bike is at about 6500 RPM at 65 mph in 6th gear. Also worth pointing out that the redline is 10500 RPM and peak power (28 HP) arrives at 8500 RPM
65 to 70 is perfectly smooth and comfortable. I personally wouldn't do 75+ for extended periods on mine because of vibrations and increased fuel consumption (and the highway speed limit here is 62), but then it's only the 250 not the 300 (286). Also note that 65 mph very near maximum torque, so you've got plenty in reserve for hill climbing or acceleration, which you don't past 75.
Your videos on the 300 Rally have been the tipping point for me to go and get one. Kudos and respect for the riding you have done on this bike. Amazing! What modifications do you think are worthwhile for the rally?
Thanks! Sure, the tank bag is a Nelson Rigg Hurricane Adventure Waterproof tank bag, the bag I have on the rear is a Givi WP403 Waterproof 35 L Back Pack. I actually ended up replacing this bag after the trip with a smaller 25L REAX Poseidon Dry Bag. The GPS is a Garmin Zumo XT.
i have never ever driven in the states, but this is the best video i have ever seen that gave me the feeling... i would give you a 100 likes if i could. suscribed
Excellent video. Look forward to more. What tank bag are you using? Could you perhaps film a bit over your GPS? It was blocking the view and I was stretching my neck to look over 😀
It's a Nelson Rigg Hurricane Adventure Waterproof Tank Bag - I only have about 1500 miles on it so far so I can't say too much about its long term wear but so far it's worked well for me. Yeah I know what you mean about the GoPro footage - the GPS unit is right in your natural sight line. I'll experiment with a helmet mount to see if that works better.
I just recently found your channel and have been watching your videos. Love them! I’m looking for a 300L ABS. How many miles do you have on yours now? Any issues with it?
Thanks🍻 I still have right around 9000 miles on mine. Over the winter I don't travel and for my day to day riding (commute and errands) I've been using the T7. The bike has not had any issues and nothing has worn out prematurely. The only limitation I've found on the bike was the overheating incident that I made a video about. Definitely no regrets about buying the Rally as it's my favorite light weight adv bike I've owned.

Yeah, I'd actually agree with you that the bike could use a bit more power. As I see it though, there is no alternative motorcycle currently available that would work better for my needs. If Honda comes out with a CRF450L Rally with long service intervals, I'll be first in line🍻
Amazing adventure!!
Good job on this beautiful video, maybe a little bit more off road footage and its perfect CRF300L Rally advertisement :)
I want this bike even more now ...!!!
Awesome. Ride safe always.
Fantastic video, thank you very much
Great video, savage riding 👊
Thanks man, I appreciate the positive vibes👍
Next time take highway 12 back from Missoula to Lewiston, 77 miles of curves along the Clearwater river! So nice!
You know I thought about this! It would have been such a long day of riding to fit it into this trip but maybe next time round. Hope you're doing well & staying cool in all this ridiculous heat👍
@@TrekEthos we got a hotel for a couple nights!
@@grindlex9 Smart move! - I on the other hand nearly died of heat stroke trying to wait it out. Glad it's over with for now.
同じバイクに乗ってます。私もいつかこの動画の様な素敵な旅をしてみたい。
That was an awesome video! Great work! One heck of a trip too!
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
Really well done.
👍
I enjoy your trips.
The proof no one need a 25k$ motorcycle
Why not have both 😂👍🏻
It only proves how much *discomfort* this one rider, in particular, can withstand, riding a motorcycle that was never designed and built for extended, high-speed (80+ mph), highway travel.
@@kenhoward3512 must be a BMW owner. LOL
Great video!!
Very nicely done Sir. 😎👍
I appreciate the support man! - Hope you're getting in some good travels with your rally👍
NIce video, thanks for posting!
I'm still deciding between the 300L and Rally version. Thanks for such a great video on the Rally.
You're an animal, after a few hundred miles on my xt600 I would want to die. You must be a young guy.
Very impressive!
Epic ride.
Thanks buddy🍻 That was random dirt road exploring in Steamboat Rock - GPS coordinates here: 47.84695510395472, -119.14789960647386
Beautiful footage! Would you mind sharing what you carry in your flat-tire repair kit?
Incredible👍
Thanks! Glad you liked it👍
Great filming
Thanks for your support👍
Awesome concept and video! What RPM is this bike at in 6th at 65 MPH on the highway?
I really enjoyed that....thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
nice adventure you did
What is the music? Beautiful video. Bigger is not always better.
Thanks👍 The song is Stinson by Reed Mathis - ua-cam.com/video/1AKvefiQHU4/v-deo.html
The best honda crf enduro
Your videos on the 300 Rally have been the tipping point for me to go and get one. Kudos and respect for the riding you have done on this bike. Amazing! What modifications do you think are worthwhile for the rally?
I read the suspension is the weak spot.....I think I want one now too...
Love the videos! Any chance you list your bag and GPS used? Thanks!
Hey man! You rock!
Excellent video. I myself would put that smart phone in a different location or get your video camera up higher.
i have never ever driven in the states, but this is the best video i have ever seen that gave me the feeling... i would give you a 100 likes if i could. suscribed
Thanks man - I really appreciate your very nice comment, it means a lot👍
Great video and very nice bike. How many miles could you done with a full tank between refueling? Thank.
Thanks Francois - bike gets about 200 -230 miles per tank depending on riding conditions.
Keep it up 👍🏻 very nice
Perfect music
wow thank you very much ;)
Awesome video, approximately how many miles per tank? Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the nice comment! - bike gets about 200 -230 miles per tank depending on riding conditions.
Awesome! Seems like a really cool bike. Looking forward to getting one for myself if dealers ever get them back in stock 😛. Been calling dealers all over the PNW and nobody has them.
