Why would you want to eat jackfruit seeds?
1) You are not wasting food - jackfruit seeds are edible alongside jackfruit fruit pods and the stringy casing that surrounds the pods.
2) They are extremely filling and high in fiber. It's an excellent meat substitute in recipes like curries or rice.
3) It's very neutral in flavor. It's pleasant, but absorbs sauces and soups easily.
4) It's really nutritious for you.
In many different cultures, jackfruit seeds are often used in curries as a meat substitute, roasted or grilled as a snack or they are used in tomato sauces.
Benefits of jackfruit seeds:
• Very high in protein: 7 grams of protein per 100 gram serving
• Low in fat, high in fiber
• Contains high amounts of thiamine and riboflavin: this helps you maintain high energy as well as keeping your skin, hair and eyes in good condition!
• Anti-cancer substances such as polyphenols, saponins and flavonoids
• Helps with digestion and promotes positive bowel movements
• Great source of iron, which is good for your blood health
My favorite uses of cooked jackfruit seeds:
• Boil them, then put them in the freezer. Use them as meat substitutes
• Roasted them in the oven, then eat it as a snack like chestnuts
• Put them in a food processor and create jackfruit seed flour
• Boil them, then chop them into tiny pieces. Add stir fried vegetables and onions and you can have a jackfruit seed stir fry!
• Boil them, add cacao powder and salt and honey and then make jackfruit seed butter/spread!
Many people ask "how do you cook jackfruit seeds?" but it's hard to find easy videos online, so I made this video!

They look delicious I can't wait to try them
thank you. i really appreciate it! let me know how you're planning to cook them?
Thanks for your lesson. U are so amazing!
really easy and informative thank you!
you're welcome! what did you make w/ your seeds?
I like how the video has an informative description! I like being to read the details, not just have to listen. Thanks for the video cutie!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks very much for this. I'm here on covid-19 lockdown in Danang, Vietnam, and I just finished a big portion of jackfruit, and I instinctively thought there must be a way to eat these seeds. I have both induction and infrared cook tops in my hotel apartment. I'm looking forward to trying this method
i'm happy this was helpful for you! do you live in Denang long term?
@@LifeofLin Yes, I've been here 2 years. Very beautiful
Wow I didn't even know that these were edible. Thanks for always sharing amazing details behind the video in the comments. I feel like a jackfruit expert now!
They are edible. Thiese ones are quite tough I don't know. I probably cooked them too long or something. Infact I'm having some while messaging at the moment. My first though with this variant, and it is kinda tough to chew. I don:t know if the time frame to cook has caused it to get tough but it seemed like I had it on heat way past the mentioned 15-20mins. I have to try it again next time. This time bound to the suggested time frame. Well I am enjoying myself. I miss these stuff. Good luck when you get a chance on some. Additionally there is a variant of which I am accustomed to which is the breadfruit seed. This can be cook with the flesh or cook them separately. They are usually bigger than the jack fruit seed and brown
@@chiedelilah8536 Prick it with fork for tenderness, might help you.
Love your energy haha
thank you!
You are Awesome Lin
no, YOU are awesome!
I really like the video you made it so easy thank you
you're welcome! cooking seeds soon?
hi, can i ask if the fruit should be ripe or is it okay if it isn't in order to eat the seeds of it?? If both, can you tell me which is better?? Thank you.
I have never found a difference between ripe fruit seeds and non ripe fruit seeds
Lin! Sorry I'm late watching haha, I was at Fort Campbell for a few days! I didn't know you could eat Jackfruit seeds, thanks for the video! ;-)
(and the outtakes were hilarious...keep doing that lol)
Thanks for always keeping up with my vlogs! 😘 what were you doing at Fort Campbell? I’ll try to add more mistakes in the future hahaha. It was frustrating to film this by myself but now looking back, it was worth it!
I film everything by myself, so I understand haha! I'm in the National Guard so I was there doing some training stuff. Keep up the good work ;-)
Oh wow, thank you for your service! Thanks for the encouragement, it really helps!
Ate this a lot as a kid!!! Aaahhhh 😍😍😍
nice! how did you eat them?
Life of Lin ate it the same exact way hahaha so good
Lovely ❤
I love your videos.
thanks! what do you like about them?
How should we store the seeds? Do we keep it in the fridge and how long can we keep it before cooking it?
i usually store it in the freezer before cooking it. you can store it in the fridge for 2-3 days
@@LifeofLin ok thanks
Thank you very much im going to go and buy my first jackfruit
I like jackfruit seeds more than jackfruit itself. To me it tasted like a big beans. I want some right now
Is the peel on the seed also edeble or not.
how do you express the taste like ?
kind of like a giant boiled chickpea
Plese try, boiled jak seeds together with fresh coconut . Its a good combination.
i will try this - is this typically a dessert? what type of cuisine is it?
You can also smashed it together and mix it with salt, red chili powder, a little bit mustard oil. Yummy new delicious recipes you just make 😊😊
amazing recipe! thanks for the tip!
Sounds delicious! Does it taste like young jackfruit meat, when you smash them?
👍👍🙌🙌 Thank you Lin! 😊
You're welcome! Let me know how it turns out :)
In case you are curious, here is a way to make curry from the seeds: lifeofl.in/jackfruitseedcurry
Nice vid. I watch both cutting a Jackfruit and cooking the seed. Very helpful! I used to see these giant fruits at the Asian market and would always wonder, what the hell to you do with these, it looks like a deadly weapon lol. Next time I go to the Asian market I'm buying one . Thank you Lin!
you're welcome! i hoped you enjoy it because this fruit and its seed are both so delicious
@lifeoflin I'm cooking jackfruit seeds right ✅️ now!!!!! I know they taste super yummy 😋 😍
Parts of India eats it too..it’s time consuming so not many do it. My gradma used to make side dish for lunch at Times she used to make jackfruit seed Kheer/payasum(dessert).
i didn't know you can make dessert out of it - that's cool! how did it taste?
I put my jackfruit seeds in the fridge , not freezer, for two months. Do you think they can still be eaten? A few of them the skin has peeled off on their own
they can have problems with mold (you'll see it as black spots), so i wouldn't recommend it
@@LifeofLin yes I have thrown them away. The seeds inside the shell looks shriveled and browning has occurred too. Thank you !
I think it has a similar flavor to the boiled/ steamed heart of the artichoke.
hmm, i didn't think of it that way but once you said that i think you're right!
Just ate some jackfruit seed curry (potato+shrimp+onion+ JF seed+ green vege)
that sounds like a delicious recipe. did you eat it with rice?
Thank you
you're welcome! how did it turn out?
Nice video! Do the seeds taste like young jackfruit meat?
Ty
you're welcome. did this video help you?
@@LifeofLin Oh yea, we looked up your video because we bought a jack fruit.
Thank you 👍
did this video help you out?
@@LifeofLin yes, I have tried it for the first time and it was strange, but good 👍
Hi everybody,
Consume the jackfruit dark skin, it has anticancer properties. Don't peel it.
Thanks
good advice!
Thank you for this video! Love it! And you are so sweet and adorable! 🤗❤️
thanks! did it help you?
@@LifeofLin yes
U can also put then into the oven for roasting
good tip! thanks for that!
They also tastes good when you boil them with salt
How long do they last refrigerated?
sylvia gomez I put the seeds in the freezer so it last for months.
Sorry, wasn't clear. How long does the actual fruit last refrigerated ? Thanks 🙃
sylvia gomez once it’s cut up I was able to keep it in the fridge for almost a week. But after about 4 days or so the fruit starts getting soft and mushy. It’s still edible, just texture is a bit off.
Thank you!
Jackfruit seed is good for health,it's a good thing.we can eat it.
Basheer Kt yup absolutely it is! What dish do you cook it in or do you eat it by itself?
I love her face when she said "....and then I'll peel the skin and eat them...."
Had to watch it over and over again
Haha
"i'm too lazy ummmmm"
Here in the Philippines in our province of albay we cook it with coconut milk. O kung sa tagalog ginugulay namin to with malunggay
ito ay isang kahanga-hangang paraan upang kainin ito - salamat!
If it tastes like a big chickpea I wonder what it would be like to make Hummus with it...
Alex Simmons me too! I read people do make hummus using these seeds. I’ll try it next time. I finished all my seeds already... can’t get more because I don’t think it’s jackfruit season right now.
Even I thought the same.
Can one add salt to the boiling water n then boil seeds in it
yup!
To me they taste like both potato and Brazil nuts. I like them.
yup, i just had them yesterday! how do you cook them?
I only had them-and the jackfruit they came in- once. I just boiled them and put a little bit of salt.
Btw, that clock ticking sound effect from the show "24" is funny in your vid here.
gotcha. how did you find out that the seeds were edible? did you just wing it? yes i had to pay homage to the (original) show!
I first decided to try jackfruit because my fiancee said it's delicious. I looked up on here and saw your vid about how to peel it and over on the side were some vids about eating the seeds so I watched them and I tried it.
:-)
Been eating them for years, boiled or roasted
awesome! by itself or in a different dish?
@@LifeofLin mostly by itself, I think next time I will try something new with it, the fruit is one of my favorites.
nice video, that looks good. like a big walnut or brazilian nut.
thanks! it's similar in size but not in taste. tastes like a very mild chestnut. have you ever tried jackfruit before?
of course, its almost as good as durian. Yea chestnut sounds more closer to what it would taste like. I bet it's really healthy too. : )
it's super healthy! it's good for your eyes, energy levels and hair. also good source of protein. planning on trying jackfruit seeds soon?
Yea i am, thx to u makin this video! How you know all this info? haha. Curry with the jackfruit seeds sound good too. This is hip hop. Knowledge movement. Yo ur right tho! www.stylecraze.com/articles/benefits-of-jackfruit-seeds-for-skin-hair-and-health/#gref
Aww sweet little honey
I just ate a seed raw. I heard that they are bad to eat raw because they are poisoness. Will I be ok?
You will be fine. Only poisonous in large quantities
I can supply jackfruit seeds who need it sell
I like her she makes me laugh lol
haha i'm glad you enjoyed it! was the bloopers the funniest part?
I don't like you because you remind me of my ex but you deliver. Subbed
TheKnowledgeThurst thanks for subbing despite the bad memories haha. did you successfully cook the jackfruit seeds?
Hi Lin!
How can these be roasted?
you can roast them in an oven at 400F for 20 minutes!
Cool! I’ve only ever boiled them.
Whenever I boil my jackfruit seeds, the water turns purple
that's weird! does that happen every time for you?
Mine too. Is that normal? It's from a fresh jackfruit cut yesterday.
@@LifeofLin mine too. Is that normal?
In Kerala, we make so many dishes with it
got any examples?
@@LifeofLin Boiled and smashed jackfruit seed - mango curry
Jackfruit seed dry roast (roasted until crispy brown)
Jackfruit seed sauté with coconut
etc...
Yes, you can make hummus from the seeds!
thanks for the expert tip! can you make anything else?
@@LifeofLin Probably anything you can make with chickpeas or other mild beans. I've seen a chocolate chip cookie recipe with chickpeas --- that would probably work.
@@leavingitblank9363 amazing, will try that next!
Don't throw away the rinse water. Let it cool and give to your plants. Must be full of nutrients. Thanks for the video.
what a great tip. thank you! hope you enjoyed the video
Hey uh oh those seeds are poisonous!!
Just kidding 😆 we love jack fruit but never guessed you could eat the seeds. We have always thrown them. Who knew. We will try this.

Could Jackfruit seeds turn/make into flour? Please and Thank you.
yes you can, similar to almond flour. it has a lot of nutrients. might be a little chunky though
Thank you. @@LifeofLin
@@petersimon5874 you're welcome! let me know how it turns out as i am curious
@@LifeofLin Will try :-)
They are never that easy to peel for me. So I just eat a few at a time till I get tired.
haha yeah. i just wound up eating a lot of them with the skin. do you cook with them too or just eat them as is?
I boil them with salt but the outer white shell stuff never comes loose like that for me.
gotcha - how long do you typically boil them for?
Life of Lin I think I let them go 20 minutes
You can try cooking them at extremely high temp. boiling water for an indefinite amt of time (might be 30 min) until the skin comes off. It will come off eventually.
U r to comment about the j seeds.. not about the lady.
I dont like tje taste of it
that's OK - at least you tried it! what didn't you like about the taste?
How to cook jackfruit seeds... with a McDonald's ad... wtf google?
