Best printer I've had by far and I've owned many. Had it for 2+ years bought bran new from Best Buy. I've never had any issues with using generic ink cartridges.

Hi HP, just unboxed this printer and was in the middle of setting it up. But every time it asks to scan the alignment page and I hit OK the printer gives me error and tells me to restart and shows B3CD4CF2 with a blue screen. how do I get pass this step, or is this one defective, I'm considering returning it to best buy.

With the printer turned on, please unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. 3. Please unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. 4. HOw do you open the input paper tray . I am trying to open it and it feels locked into place. Nothing on instructions either. Looks like you just pulled it right out, not working for me. In case it is flashing, please follow these steps to connect the printer to your wireless network. 1. From the home screen on the printer, touch the 'Wireless' icon and then touch 'Settings'. 2. Touch 'Wireless Setup Wizard'. 3. Select your network from the list of detected networks. 4. Please follow the prompts. Now that the printer is connected to your wireless network, the next phase is to enable web services. 1. From the home screen on the printer, touch the 'ePrint' button. 2. Accept the 'Terms of Use', and then follow the onscreen instructions to enable Web Services. If successful the Web Services Information sheet will print with your printer claim code. My touchscreen is terrible - i have to press many times before it registers my selection (I even tried using a pen for a touch screen) - there doesn't seem to be a 'sweetspot'- is this normal - or do you think that there may be a problem with this particular printer?

I just got one, it seems like it just needs a short "long press" basically. If I try to just tap it like a cell phone it doesn't work every time, but if I leave my finger in place for half a second it works every time. Sucks for typing in the network password though...

Have a total new hp envy 5530, that I have bought today. I cant print. It gives me this message all the time: "The print carriage cannot move. Open the ink cartridge access door, clear any paper jam or obstruction, ensure ink cartridge levers are lowered and snapped into place." I have done all of these things several times and also powered the printer off and on several times and the same error continues to pop up. And I can hear the carriage moving, when I try to print, but it still gives me this message.

Ashley Carberry Sounds to me like you have the queue set for B&W printing only on your computer. You can reset your printing system and re-add the printer it should fix it for you. Every time I print something it comes out fine. When I go to print something else it won't print. It will still say that the first pages are printing even when they're done. I always have to cancel that out before I can print something else, any solutions?

After scanning my first document, it's automatically saved on my HP PC in a personal folder I set up containing my mother's lists of prescription medications. Shouldn't I be able to select where the scanned document is saved? Each document I scan is given a file name and stored. Can I scan more than one document before it's given it a file name? i have the tri color cartage in the printer as well as the black cartridge and my printer still won't print my documents in color. even when i take out the black cartridge the printer refuses to print from any of my laptops or desktops in color. all the supply levels are full and even in my preferences i have it set to color printing and still no color. what can i do?

I can't even get into the Setup mode. Hitting the Setup icon does nothing. Kinda stuck here. Plus I bought the damned thing today as a refurbished unit and they tell me that the warranty expired 10 days ago! Shouldn't that start from the date of purchase? Even with a refurb? Any help here?
If the printer was purchased as reconditioned from HP, then the unit would have had a standard factory warranty applied to it. However, until a printer is registered with HP, or a proof of purchase is provided, the default warranty is based on the manufactured date of the printer which is known from the printer serial number. This can lead to situations where an unused printer has sat in a warehouse more than a year from manufacture date, so the default warranty will appear to have expired. In North America, the manufacturer's warranty for a printer is generally 1 year, which can be extended or upgraded with a care package. Just provide HP the proof of purchase, if you haven't already, and your warranty should be updated to reflect the proper dates.

I bought the HP 301 ink which is compatible with this printer (as per web site) but when i installed an incompatible error comes out. I have just realized that the ink code should be 61(ink area), but regardless this, i can see on the hp web-page that the ink model for this printer is 301. i am in UK, and I bought this printer in Canada (perhaps this is the reason? if so what can i do?)

I have done the steps that you instructed here above, but my "setup" button still doesn't work. the "setup" is freezing, so even when I push the "setup" button, nothing happens. Is it the same printer type as in the video? If not, please let me know the model#. Is the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet, or through a power strip or UPS or other similar device? If it is, try the hard reset again but try plugging directly into a wall outlet, although another option would be to try using an outlet in a kitchen and see if the menu will proceed as normal. Let me know when you can.
Hi HP Printer Support, yes it is the same printer type. I found a solution to the problem. the screen is not as good at sensing when you touch it, the whole screen surface doesn't sense when you touch the screen. only parts of the screen can sense if you touch it.

***** Thank you for your response. I had previously set my preference to two-sided printing. I worked with HP a few days ago for almost two hours with no resolution. All software associated with the HP Envy 5530 was uninstalled and reinstalled. Problem remains. I am using an HP Pavillion g7-292nr Notebook PC and Windows 8.1. When I attempt to print an Excel spreadsheet or Word form with a lot of data the second page prints first with no issues. The second page only prints two or three columns of a fourteen column budget in Excel or bottom few lines of a Word document. Error message appears on the screen saying "Error printing on HP Envy 5530". I can print on two separate pages with no problems but the two-sided printing does not work.

I put mine on the back of my printer which is in another room now. But it's some kind of bar code and there seems to be a scratch off section on it too. I didn't know if this was something important I absolutely needed to know, or if it was just there as an additional identifier for the printer. I don't print on a consistent enough basis to make good use of the ink subscription program, and was thinking that that was probably what it was for... but nothing in the instruction booklet or this video mentioned it.

Hello, I just tried to install this printer, but it is telling me to replace the Tri-Color ink cartridge. Everything is brand new, right off the shipment from fedex. I just switched over from a Canon printer, and I'm already having problems. Really frustrated with this because I have things that need to be printed! my printer was working great until recently. it now prints agonizingly slow, often taking over a minute for a one page recipe, whereas before it spit out the finished product in no time. it does "copy" function at the old fast pace, however. this seems to have started when i replaced the ink cartridges. i used HP 61XL; did the XL slow it down? should i uninstall(if that's even possible) and reinstall? can anyone help me?

Hi Rosalba Perez, I am presuming that you are trying to connect the printer to your wireless network. The password that it is asking for is the password you use to log onto your wireless network. If you are using the Wireless Direct feature with security turned on, you can get the password from the front panel of the printer. The steps can be found in your User Guide on page 57 in the section “To connect wirelessly to the printer without a router”. If you search for C03773204 on HP’s home page or using Google search as that is the document number for the User Guide.

I just bought this printer and it's not working. When I press "setup" (6:10 in the video) I get a message "Carriage Jam. Remove all packaging from inside the printer, then touch OK to continue." I've already removed all the packaging, but the carriage doesn't move. It's firmly stuck in place, and the printer itself can't move it either. My first disappointment with hp in the years I've been using their products.
jennbeth1 Does this happen if you try to print a printer status page from the front of the printer? What about a photocopy are you able to make a copy? What operating system are you running on your computer? What application are you trying to print from? Have you tried printing from something else like a browser or Notepad?
Hello JDM, This printer has a utility found in the front panel menu titled the “Wireless Setup Wizard”. It walks you through connecting the printer to your wireless network. To find the wireless setup wizard the press the wireless icon on the front panel of the printer and then touch Settings. The Wireless Setup Wizard will be listed there. Once connected to your network, when installing the full feature software and drivers your computer should have no problem seeing the printer if both devices are connected to the same network.
+GINO GUADAGNIN HP doesn't have a laser printer with a model number of 5530. We do have the Envy 5530 which is an inkjet printer. The "HP ENVY, DeskJet Printers - Printer Specifications" document ( ow.ly/VzkCy ) lists the cartridges required.

Hi HP, just unboxed this printer and was in the middle of setting it up. But every time it asks to scan the alignment page and I hit OK the printer gives me error and tells me to restart and shows B3CD4CF2 with a blue screen. how do I get pass this step, or is this one defective, I'm considering returning it to best buy.

Please try a power reset of the printer. The steps are as follows:
1. If the printer is currently turned off, please turn the printer on.
2. With the printer turned on, please unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
3. Please unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
4. Please wait a full 60 seconds to allow any power in the adapter to dissipate.
5. Please plug the power cord back into the printer and into a wall outlet. It is important to ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet.
6. If the printer does not turn on by itself, please turn the printer on.
If after performing the above, you still have the same error message, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please go to Google search and enter 'contact HP worldwide'. Your first option should be the site for contacting HP, when you click on it you will be prompted to choose your country/region.

HOw do you open the input paper tray . I am trying to open it and it feels locked into place. Nothing on instructions either. Looks like you just pulled it right out, not working for me. I just received this model and I am having the hardest time. The presentation on QVC said you were supposed to get an email address for this but where is it? I can't get wireless set up either, although the blue light is lit. So confusing, I may box it back up and return.

If the blue light is solid and not flashing then the printer is connected to your wireless network. If it is flashing then it is not. In case it is flashing, please follow these steps to connect the printer to your wireless network.
1. From the home screen on the printer, touch the 'Wireless' icon and then touch 'Settings'.
2. Touch 'Wireless Setup Wizard'.
3. Select your network from the list of detected networks.
4. Please follow the prompts.
Now that the printer is connected to your wireless network, the next phase is to enable web services.
1. From the home screen on the printer, touch the 'ePrint' button.
2. Accept the 'Terms of Use', and then follow the onscreen instructions to enable Web Services. If successful the Web Services Information sheet will print with your printer claim code. If you have a connection error message please skip to Step A before going to the next step.
3. Please use the claim code on your Web Services information sheet in your HP Connected account to claim the printer and customize the printer's ePrint email address.
If you are receiving a connection error message when you try to enable the web services please follow these steps.
A. Please enter the ip address of the printer into the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, etc). My screen shots below are from Safari but the location of everything is the same regardless of the browser. This will bring up the embedded web server of the printer.
B. Please click on the network tab. You should see the Network Summary for your printer. Please click on 'Networking' on the left hand side menu.
C. Please click on 'Network Address (IP)' on the left hand side menu.
D. Please on the radial button beside "Manual IP" then click on "Suggest a Manual IP Address" button. The Manual IP address, Manual Subnet Mask and Manual Default Gateway should populate for you. Please click on radial button beside "Manual DNS Server". For the Manual Preferred DNS Server please enter 8.8.8.8 and for the Manual Alternate DNS Server please enter 8.8.4.4. These are Google’s public DNS servers.
E. Please click on 'Apply'. If you get a warning message about changing the ip address please click 'OK'.
F. Please turn the printer off by the printer's power button. Please wait a minimum of 15 seconds and then turn the printer back on.
G. Please press the ePrint icon in the upper left hand corner of the printer's front panel. This should prompt you to accept the terms of service. Please choose 'Accept'.
H. When prompted about the automatic updates please choose 'Yes'. The printer should now show the HP logo while the printer communicates with the HP servers. The Web Services information sheet should print with the claim code for your printer.
I hope I haven't confused you with the above steps. If you run into any issues with the above, please let me know at what step things went awry and what the content of any error messages were.

I just got one, it seems like it just needs a short "long press" basically. If I try to just tap it like a cell phone it doesn't work every time, but if I leave my finger in place for half a second it works every time. Sucks for typing in the network password though...

Have a total new hp envy 5530, that I have bought today. I cant print. It gives me this message all the time: "The print carriage cannot move. Open the ink cartridge access door, clear any paper jam or obstruction, ensure ink cartridge levers are lowered and snapped into place." I have done all of these things several times and also powered the printer off and on several times and the same error continues to pop up. And I can hear the carriage moving, when I try to print, but it still gives me this message.

Ashley Carberry Sounds to me like you have the queue set for B&W printing only on your computer. You can reset your printing system and re-add the printer it should fix it for you. I am providing you with an Apple Support document below that will help you reset your printing system.

Every time I print something it comes out fine. When I go to print something else it won't print. It will still say that the first pages are printing even when they're done. I always have to cancel that out before I can print something else, any solutions?

After scanning my first document, it's automatically saved on my HP PC in a personal folder I set up containing my mother's lists of prescription medications. Shouldn't I be able to select where the scanned document is saved? Each document I scan is given a file name and stored. Can I scan more than one document before it's given it a file name? Is there any harm with reinstalling the software CD that came with this printer?
i have the tri color cartage in the printer as well as the black cartridge and my printer still won't print my documents in color. even when i take out the black cartridge the printer refuses to print from any of my laptops or desktops in color. all the supply levels are full and even in my preferences i have it set to color printing and still no color. what can i do?

If you indicated that you would set up the wireless later, then it is likely that your computer is expecting to find the printer connected by a USB cable. Please try plugging in a printer style USB cable and test again. Another option could be to re-install the software and complete the wireless installation and test again.

I can't even get into the Setup mode. Hitting the Setup icon does nothing. Kinda stuck here. Plus I bought the damned thing today as a refurbished unit and they tell me that the warranty expired 10 days ago! Shouldn't that start from the date of purchase? Even with a refurb? Any help here?
If the printer was purchased as reconditioned from HP, then the unit would have had a standard factory warranty applied to it. However, until a printer is registered with HP, or a proof of purchase is provided, the default warranty is based on the manufactured date of the printer which is known from the printer serial number. This can lead to situations where an unused printer has sat in a warehouse more than a year from manufacture date, so the default warranty will appear to have expired. In North America, the manufacturer's warranty for a printer is generally 1 year, which can be extended or upgraded with a care package. Just provide HP the proof of purchase, if you haven't already, and your warranty should be updated to reflect the proper dates.

I bought the HP 301 ink which is compatible with this printer (as per web site) but when i installed an incompatible error comes out. I have just realized that the ink code should be 61(ink area), but regardless this, i can see on the hp web-page that the ink model for this printer is 301. i am in UK, and I bought this printer in Canada (perhaps this is the reason? if so what can i do?)

- While the printer is turned on, please unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Please unplug the power cord from the wall outlet/power bar/surge protector.
- Please wait a full 60 seconds.
- Please plug the power cord into the back of the printer and a wall outlet. It is important that the printer is plugged into the wall outlet and not a power bar/strip or surge protector.
- If the printer does not turn itself on, please power the printer on.
- Does the printer complete its start up routine so you can see a menu or options?

I have done the steps that you instructed here above, but my "setup" button still doesn't work. the "setup" is freezing, so even when I push the "setup" button, nothing happens. Is it the same printer type as in the video? If not, please let me know the model#. Is the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet, or through a power strip or UPS or other similar device? If it is, try the hard reset again but try plugging directly into a wall outlet, although another option would be to try using an outlet in a kitchen and see if the menu will proceed as normal. Let me know when you can.

yes it is the same printer type. I found a solution to the problem. the screen is not as good at sensing when you touch it, the whole screen surface doesn't sense when you touch the screen. only parts of the screen can sense if you touch it.
Glad to hear it is sorted out. I was apparently out in left field thinking about power, but it is often a possible cause.

***** Thank you for your response. I had previously set my preference to two-sided printing. I worked with HP a few days ago for almost two hours with no resolution. All software associated with the HP Envy 5530 was uninstalled and reinstalled. Problem remains. I am using an HP Pavillion g7-292nr Notebook PC and Windows 8.1. When I attempt to print an Excel spreadsheet or Word form with a lot of data the second page prints first with no issues. The second page only prints two or three columns of a fourteen column budget in Excel or bottom few lines of a Word document. Error message appears on the screen saying "Error printing on HP Envy 5530". I can print on two separate pages with no problems but the two-sided printing does not work.
Regina Guthrie If you could run the Firmware Update I am linking below and once it is completed try to do a two sided copy. If you are unable to do the two-sided copy you will need to talk to HP Technical Support as you may have a possible hardware issue.

I put mine on the back of my printer which is in another room now. But it's some kind of bar code and there seems to be a scratch off section on it too. I didn't know if this was something important I absolutely needed to know, or if it was just there as an additional identifier for the printer. I don't print on a consistent enough basis to make good use of the ink subscription program, and was thinking that that was probably what it was for... but nothing in the instruction booklet or this video mentioned it.

Hello, I just tried to install this printer, but it is telling me to replace the Tri-Color ink cartridge. Everything is brand new, right off the shipment from fedex. I just switched over from a Canon printer, and I'm already having problems. Really frustrated with this because I have things that need to be printed! my printer was working great until recently. it now prints agonizingly slow, often taking over a minute for a one page recipe, whereas before it spit out the finished product in no time. it does "copy" function at the old fast pace, however. this seems to have started when i replaced the ink cartridges. i used HP 61XL; did the XL slow it down? should i uninstall(if that's even possible) and reinstall? can anyone help me?

I am presuming that you are trying to connect the printer to your wireless network. The password that it is asking for is the password you use to log onto your wireless network.
If you are using the Wireless Direct feature with security turned on, you can get the password from the front panel of the printer. The steps can be found in your User Guide on page 57 in the section “To connect wirelessly to the printer without a router”. If you search for C03773204 on HP’s home page or using Google search as that is the document number for the User Guide.

I just bought this printer and it's not working. When I press "setup" (6:10 in the video) I get a message "Carriage Jam. Remove all packaging from inside the printer, then touch OK to continue." I've already removed all the packaging, but the carriage doesn't move. It's firmly stuck in place, and the printer itself can't move it either. My first disappointment with hp in the years I've been using their products.
After violently forcing the carriage out of place, I was able to fix it. This should not have had to be done.

This printer has a utility found in the front panel menu titled the “Wireless Setup Wizard”. It walks you through connecting the printer to your wireless network. To find the wireless setup wizard the press the wireless icon on the front panel of the printer and then touch Settings. The Wireless Setup Wizard will be listed there.
Once connected to your network, when installing the full feature software and drivers your computer should have no problem seeing the printer if both devices are connected to the same network.
