really happy you mentioned oriq loremage in the budget section. he's a repeatable entomb on a stick and i rarely see channels mention it, if at all. in any type of reanimator deck he's an absolute HOUSE and can set you up for any aristocrats wincon really easily. though because of this, you'll likely only get one or two activations before someone either nukes him or the yard, but with a haste enabler and/or protection you can definitely milk it for longer. heavily slept on imo, definitely needs more recognition
Nice to see Muldrotha revisited. She was my first Commander that I actually put money into building and I've always enjoyed playing with her (despite the lack of clear wincons). I like the idea of Sanctum Weaver, but with this addition, I would favour Diplomatic Immunity over another pair of boots -- Muldrotha gets shroud and the enchantment has shroud, making it a much more reliable target for weaver. No equip costs and the haste, in my experience, rarely matters for Muldrotha (no one rushes her around!). I'm rarely targeting Muldrotha (unless it's to provide the same effect). Keep up the good work, Joey!
Great video, loved the suggestion of Mazirek! I had completely missed that one. Here are some of my suggestions for Muldrotha: Pattern of Rebirth is a great tool to get whatever creatures you need onto the board over and over. Massacre Girl is a cheap (monetarily) and repeatable, altough conditional, board wipe. The common sacc lands from Streets of New Cappena are a great budget alternative to fetch lands, and there are *four* of them that hit two of your land types. Khalni Heart Expedition and Springbloom Druid is amazing for ramp if you're going for land matters. Reef Worm, when played and sacced/killed over and over contributes to a very scary board that is hard to wipe. It and Mitotic Slime are great token generators if you need sacrifice fodder.
It's a house! I've built Muldrotha when Dominaria released and people were so dumbfounded at that time on how stinking good this unassuming uncommon could be.
I built a muldrotha deck a while back, and it has been my pet favorite deck since. I threw it together with cards that I had on hand, and tuned it up as I went, but it was kind of all over the place. It had your mainstays of a muldrotha deck, like mulldrifter, seal of primordium, and other just goodstuffs, but I also went for more of a "lands matter" theme. I mean, I get to play gitrog and tatyova, and my commander is a crucible of eternity? One of my favorite win conditions was to equip blackblade reforged to a creature after pulling most the lands out of my deck, and then flinging it at everyone with Jarad
Even with how expensive magic is getting as a whole, with many b-list cards going up in price, I was still able to brew a muldrotha deck for less than 25 dollars all said and done. That's why I love this commander, even with the worst cards, unplayable in any other deck, muldrotha can and will beat your opponents into the ground. She is my favorite budget commander
I love Oubliette as removal in the deck. Getting rid of your opponents commanders for 3 mana without the ability to cast them directly again is very nice.

I know this has been out for two years, I have found in my own Muldrotha mill deck that I am always in need of counters to protect myself. For those that want a simple recursion for instants I use Archaeomancer then if I need more I have deadeye navigator to flicker Archaeomancer to have consistent counters.

Ghost Quarter is also HILARIOUS with the new indestructible 2c lands! Which are also good in Muldrotha if you have extra land drops, since you can play them as an artifact, and play another card as a land, should they somehow end up in the yard! But using ghost quarter on your own land as ramp is amazing, and being able to replay the ghost quarter to do it again every turn? Incredible. Also I can attest to the power Spellbomb and Seal of Removal in Muldrotha, I'm amazed those weren't already in the average list!! They're absolutely backbreaking to play against - having your opponents know anything they try to do might be countered, by something that is already on board? It's brutal. Absolutely backbreaking.
Great video! My recommendation is dance of many! Two mana enchantment to make a clone of any creature on the battlefield and has an upkeep cost of UU which is an upside with Muldrotha! Don’t pay the upkeep and just recast it from graveyard to reset what you copy or to abuse etb triggers! Great in budget or non budget because it’s real cheap
So, I wanna say, I loved this video. My muldrotha deck looks almost identical to this deck already. But I have a win con that I use, which is a left field victory…, but if your setup is right, it never fails. So as you explained, mid to late game when your established and able to counter most peoples plays, and you keep 8 mana available, you play biovisionary first, wait for counters, respond if you need to. Recur counter abilities, Then play echoing equation. As long as you have three other creatures, and you can block opponents removal attempts, end your turn and bam! Victory.
I built a muldrotha mutate deck and its a lot of fun. Using some of those sac return creative to owners hand effects to protect my mutate stack. One of my favorite decks for sure

The problem is WotC is pumping out so many new cards i’ve lost track since Kalhiem lol. I have so many different versions I could build of him fun, combo, stacks, creatures, and toys! He is super flexible and fun to build around! Mono Red Artifacts!

My personal replacement for Cyclonic Rift in my permanents only Muldrotha deck is Kederekt Leviathan. Yes, it's sorcery speed and bounces your stuff too, but the fact it can Unearth itself out of the graveyard without Muldrotha's help comes in clutch a lot.

Let's see a Syr Konrad redux! There have been a lot of new cards that work great with him. Urzas saga, undead butler, dauthi voidwalker, callous bloodmage, and opposition agent are all great new adds to the deck. I've ended up cutting all the gravepurge effects since they felt really underwhelming imo
I have had a lot of trouble updating this one since I made it a couple years ago. I brewed it as all permanents but obviously having some select instants and sorceries would be more powerful in some ways. But like you said there’s already way too many cards to play with this commander so I guess I’ll stick with all permanents. Cuts are impossible enough as it is 😩
I was playing an (almost)-all permanents build with Gyruda as a companion, but found that there were a few games I was being run over in. I currently (05/01/22) have 6 non-permanent spells in my list and any potential new ones have to be very good to make the cut.
I turned my muldrotha deck into a hybrid lands reanimator deck. It's honestly pretty strong and the fact I can use glacial chasm to just not take combat damage anymore basically turns me into the raid boss. My favorite removal in the deck is seal of removal. My big game enders is time warp with ewit and a bunch of stuff that deal with landfall like scute swarm and avenger of Zendikar, field of the dead and a few others.
Strands of Night is my deck's secret weapon. Most people I play it against have never seen it before, but it adds repeatable and instant speed reanimate effects for a cost that's uniquely negligible for muldrotha. The only caveat is that you need to be conscious of your land types, but if your deck has a lot of black stuff happening like mine you would be surprised how easy it can be. (also, urborg)
enjoyed this. lots of good tech. i use mesmeric orb as a graveyard filler and can be nice disruption too but i guess can be risky vs another gy based deck making running maindeck gy hate more important as backup if needed vs those decks.
I added gyruda as a companion to help limit the card pool for my muldrotha deck, and i stuck to only cards i already owned. Really struggled on good even costed ramp tbh. So many great muldrotha cards are odd mv. It needs a few more games before i make any major tweaks, but i like a bunch of the budget recommendations.

Does anyone play dredge cards in your muldrotha decks? Life from the loam is great, but there are a few others that can help load your graveyard up, golgari grave-troll, stinkweed imp and others, allowing you to pile cards in your yard every turn. Any arguments against this?
If you run him on arena, add grixian recycler and ashnods altar. Sack Recycler for 2 colorless and makes a copy in grave then cast it back as either creature or artifact with the 2 colorless. He adds a lot of himself to grave for things that worry about # of creatures or cards in grave. Any time he dies you add another copy of him to grave. Its great.
Which cards will I take out after adding these cards? Talisman of Dominance Dimir Signet Necromancy Sylvan Safekeeper Kokusho, the Evening Star Lord of Extinction Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord Teferi, Master of Time
With so many scary commanders with passive or constant triggered abilities I put all the permanents that change creatures and make them lose all their abilities instead of straight killing them. Oko, Song of the Dryads, Imprisoned in the Moon, Oubliette, Mystic Subdual, Lignify, Kenrith’s Transformation.
To add to your list, I've had a lot of fun either metamorphic alteration. The flexibility to "remove" a creature, or to change one of my own into something better has been sweet.
Sorry for replying to such an old comment, but I'd like to add some budget options to this list; Frogify, Ichthyomorphosis, Kasmina's Transmutation, and Witness Protection all are less than $1 for very similar effects!
Glacial chasm is one of my favorite cards in muldrotha. I built muldrotha as an enchantress deck. The wincon is using second chance to take infinite turns. I use glacial chasm to get my health below five. Very spicy
I'm playing glacial chasm in my own muldrotha deck, when i get both of them and gitrog on the battlefield together the result is just backbreaking for my opponents
Curious how Fleet Swallower would be in a deck like this? If you use its ability on your self to mill half your deck you would have all those cards available to use in your graveyard?
What do you think about Trickster Mage? It’s low on the mana curve, it allows you to Twiddle each turn, and the discard requirement synergizes with Muldrotha. I’m just curious if I’d be able to use the tap ability in response to an opponent’s card being tapped as an attacker.
This 2 r nice cheap option. "Patrician Geist" {2}{U} Creature - Spirit Knight Flying Other Spirits you control get +1/+1. Spells you cast from your graveyard cost {1} less to cast. "Ominous Roost" {2}{U} Enchantment When Ominous Roost enters the battlefield or whenever you cast a spell from your graveyard, create a 1/1 blue Bird creature token with flying and “This creature can block only creatures with flying.”
If you want a combo finnish foryour muldrotha deck, Mesmeric Orb and Basalt Monolith straight up can just mill your entire deck, after that just play a throical/labman/Jace from your grave or hand and pull a win also find cloning muldrotha with Sakashima and Spark double just PURE VALUE.
By 2:54, Joey talks about how SOOOOO many cards can be considered auto-includes for Muldrotha that the term is almost meaningless. Then proceeds to show 9 cards (by that timestamp), 7 of which are illegal in my Muldrotha deck - because I play Gyruda as a companion. This is a prime example of what Joey was talking about. My Muldrotha / Gyruda deck functions very well despite the restriction, and means that a lot of the proverbial 'auto-includes' cannot be played. Muldrotha may be seen by many as a boring, "value" commander, and she is value, but the value is so open ended that you could easily build 4, maybe 5 very different Muldrotha decks.
Muldrotha is SO versatile. Being able to lower or heighten the power level of the deck. Even playing completely different strategies altogether. It just make me love this elemental avatar. A number of these additions and replacements kind of make me laugh. Only because I already had them in my deck. I haven't touch the deck since the rona. It's just funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same.
If we’re looking at budget options for ramp that also sac themselves, I think the cluestones are underrated. They make mana, and they can be sacked to draw cards relatively inexpensively. And, they’re only like, 50¢.
The main thing about stuff like Steve and Font are that they ramp you every time they sac, while a cluestone will also take the mana source away when you sac to draw (so replaying them repeatedly only gives you repeated card draw, and that effect costs a total of 5 mana)
you should have a something that can copy your commander like spark double so you can get the ability twice, and you could always cast spark double again
Just a PSA on Muldrotha Wincons: You might alreday have a combo on your Muldrotha deck if you run Altar of Dementia, Heddron Crab, Sylvan safekeeper, World Shaper and Field of the Dead. Get your deck into your graveyard with all the above on the battlefield and then sac the World Shaper to bring back all your lands (Saccing the ones on the field in response with the safekeeper), milling someone for 100+ w/ the crab and making 30+ zombies. Repeating this is pretty easy (If you do it on the end step before your turn you'll get a lot of mana on your turn and the chance to do it more times by saccing and replaying Muldrotha). Kessig Cagebreakers + Greaves/Boots to give haste is also a fun wincon.
Can you do an urza redux? I got an extra urza and have non budget deck want a budget version. Muldrotha I have 3 decks tribal, budget and non budget Because so many cards play well. After watching again. I ordered another muldrotha inspired to make an enchantment/ Voltron muldrotha deck. This was good stuff and very inspiring.
First Tiny Mistake: Teferi can't protect your own creature. The Looting Effect is still great. With this many cards, i also sometimes misread cards. Keep up the great Videos. ✌️
We don’t mean to imply the phasing is used to protect Muldrotha; phasing out enemy attackers is still good protection, but in the sense of protecting the life total, a la Spore Frog and friends. We definitely could have been more clear on the meaning there. 👍🙂

To add to your list, I've had a lot of fun either metamorphic alteration. The flexibility to "remove" a creature, or to change one of my own into something better has been sweet.
Sorry for replying to such an old comment, but I'd like to add some budget options to this list; Frogify, Ichthyomorphosis, Kasmina's Transmutation, and Witness Protection all are less than $1 for very similar effects!
Glacial chasm is one of my favorite cards in muldrotha. I built muldrotha as an enchantress deck. The wincon is using second chance to take infinite turns. I use glacial chasm to get my health below five. Very spicy
I'm playing glacial chasm in my own muldrotha deck, when i get both of them and gitrog on the battlefield together the result is just backbreaking for my opponents

Curious how Fleet Swallower would be in a deck like this? If you use its ability on your self to mill half your deck you would have all those cards available to use in your graveyard?

I cut Syr Konrad for The Meathook Massacre. TMM is a wrath. It might be "less strong" than Konrad but my deck ends up combo killing with either one.

I found that with mazirek, altar of dementia, and the blue blob creature you have a chance at milking people out and can draw your deck
What do you think about Trickster Mage? It’s low on the mana curve, it allows you to Twiddle each turn, and the discard requirement synergizes with Muldrotha. I’m just curious if I’d be able to use the tap ability in response to an opponent’s card being tapped as an attacker.

If you want a combo finnish foryour muldrotha deck, Mesmeric Orb and Basalt Monolith straight up can just mill your entire deck, after that just play a throical/labman/Jace from your grave or hand and pull a win
also find cloning muldrotha with Sakashima and Spark double just PURE VALUE.
Just lost to a Muldrotha player last night looping Mindslaver over and over. Yeah, this commander is bonkers.
By 2:54, Joey talks about how SOOOOO many cards can be considered auto-includes for Muldrotha that the term is almost meaningless. Then proceeds to show 9 cards (by that timestamp), 7 of which are illegal in my Muldrotha deck - because I play Gyruda as a companion. This is a prime example of what Joey was talking about.
My Muldrotha / Gyruda deck functions very well despite the restriction, and means that a lot of the proverbial 'auto-includes' cannot be played.
Muldrotha may be seen by many as a boring, "value" commander, and she is value, but the value is so open ended that you could easily build 4, maybe 5 very different Muldrotha decks.

Muldrotha is SO versatile. Being able to lower or heighten the power level of the deck. Even playing completely different strategies altogether. It just make me love this elemental avatar. A number of these additions and replacements kind of make me laugh. Only because I already had them in my deck. I haven't touch the deck since the rona.
It's just funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

If we’re looking at budget options for ramp that also sac themselves, I think the cluestones are underrated. They make mana, and they can be sacked to draw cards relatively inexpensively. And, they’re only like, 50¢.
The main thing about stuff like Steve and Font are that they ramp you every time they sac, while a cluestone will also take the mana source away when you sac to draw (so replaying them repeatedly only gives you repeated card draw, and that effect costs a total of 5 mana)

you should have a something that can copy your commander like spark double so you can get the ability twice, and you could always cast spark double again

Just a PSA on Muldrotha Wincons: You might alreday have a combo on your Muldrotha deck if you run Altar of Dementia, Heddron Crab, Sylvan safekeeper, World Shaper and Field of the Dead. Get your deck into your graveyard with all the above on the battlefield and then sac the World Shaper to bring back all your lands (Saccing the ones on the field in response with the safekeeper), milling someone for 100+ w/ the crab and making 30+ zombies. Repeating this is pretty easy (If you do it on the end step before your turn you'll get a lot of mana on your turn and the chance to do it more times by saccing and replaying Muldrotha). Kessig Cagebreakers + Greaves/Boots to give haste is also a fun wincon.

Muldrotha I have 3 decks tribal, budget and non budget Because so many cards play well.
After watching again. I ordered another muldrotha inspired to make an enchantment/ Voltron muldrotha deck.

Anytime I see a Muldothra deck with Instants and Sorceries in, I feel like you're doing it wrong.
First Tiny Mistake: Teferi can't protect your own creature. The Looting Effect is still great. With this many cards, i also sometimes misread cards. Keep up the great Videos. ✌️
We don’t mean to imply the phasing is used to protect Muldrotha; phasing out enemy attackers is still good protection, but in the sense of protecting the life total, a la Spore Frog and friends. We definitely could have been more clear on the meaning there. 👍🙂
