The song is an old southern hymn. It's about someone dying and going to heaven. It's over 100 years old. Glad you like it. The Hound and Fox are more of a folk music type. They are a married couple. ❤

This music world has numerous connections. Adam Chance has another song with the Hound and the Fox which is A Whistling Lad. Tim has sang a great version of We Three Kings with them..
The Hound and the Fox produced Home Free's video of Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On. They performed in the video as the young couple. The video was done in one continuous shot after many attempts. They had to start over if there was a mistake. Tim at the beginning of the video makes a very distinctive sound which he originally did as a joke. It was so good that it was kept in the video. Now Tim regrets it because he has to reproduce in live performances of the medley.
The Hound and the Fox with their very young son can also be seen in a cameo in Home Free's video of Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. In the video are also Darren Rust, Home Free's producer, Rob's Grandmother, and Tim's close friend (can't remember his name sorry) who introduced Tim to the girl who became Tim's wife. The amazing thing was that The Hound and the Fox 's tiny son claps in time to Home Free so musical talent probably runs in the next generation of the family.
My wife says Chance could sing the phonebook, and she'd buy it. Reilly(The Hound) is also the person producing Chance's upcoming solo album. And to follow up someone else's suggestion, yes, you need to listen to Helplessly Hoping!

They are an awesome trio. I think Chances voice is smokey, whiskey smooth. These three also did a version of the Wellerman that is great.

The Hound and the Fox remind me of the folk rock groups from the 70s. They have very ethereal voices that work so well together. They have done several more collabs with Adam and at least 2 with Tim Foust, including one with his wife Jenika. Their Sound of Silence is great. They have a version of My Mother Told Me that was a real surprise. And they have a cover of Johnny Cash's Hurt that is quite beautiful. And their original The Whistling Lad is absolutely heartwrenching. Have fun.
And for Marvel fans out there, they did a perfect little cover of "Agatha All Along" ! They are yet another act that can do just about anything!

Reilly and McKenzie Zamber are incredible musicians (and even better people)! Their typical genre is folk music, but with a mystical/magical vibe - they are insanely good! All these amazing people know each other from their historical associations with a Capella music. Reilly and McKenzie did production for Peter Hollens for a while. And in this biz, if you know Peter, you know everyone! Haha Not surprising that Home Free, The Hound + The Fox, PTX, Malinda Reese, Bailey Pelkman, Whitney Avalon, The Bass Gang, Peter Hollens, VoicePlay, Voctave, and many more, all know each other, support each other, and many of them are close friends. As you saw, they all turn around at the end of the song. That’s because they immediately filmed another one for the Hound+Fox channel. They released them about 15 minutes apart.

Together with videographer Jimmy Bates, they are the video production company Fifgen. They produced most of Home Free's early videos and Jimmy Bates still works with them (eg directed the video for Brother).

The Fox, reminds me so much of the great & legendary Emmylou Harris.....I think you need more Chance, and the Home Free cover of Finally Free is just the ticket....you'll fall for him, just a warning :) He's a good-looking lad for sure. The Hound & Fox also appeared as the couple in Home Free's video "Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On". Chance has a few videos with them (including "Sounds of Silence"). If memory serves Chance was in a trio with them (I think he was Wolf, but I'm not sure). Chance was also in the band "Street Corner Symphonies". Chance's song "The Man Who Can't Forget" (on his channel) is haunting & evocative. Wayfaring Stranger is such a beautiful, sad hymn so beautifully sung. Thanks for playing this & your comments.

The song is a Hymn that, so easily, slides into the FOLK sound. It is, ABSOLUTELY, not Country or Blue Grass, yet could be done as either with the rite arrangement.
Adam’s Emerald Green, velvet voice is perfect for this. Chance seems to favor the Folk sound in his singles (heaven to me!), yet he can blend his talent to almost anything.
There is a talent ecosphere that surrounds Home Free Darren Rust and the entire organization after a while you will remember seeing many of them in their videos.

I really enjoy "The Hound & The Fox's music. They've done a lot of collaborations with different members of Home Free & other artists. Their voices really suit the older folk style of songs & Chance blends well with them. This is a very old song that has been covered by many famous artists such as Burl Ives, Emmylou Harris & Johnny Cash.

This is really amazing. Adam Chance who has the perfect voice for this.( smooth and sexy voice) That in combination with The Hound & The Fox just sounds magnificent. I like it better than the original. But yes the collaboration between them is always great, just like The Sound Of Silence.
The Hound and Fox are husband and wife. They are friends with all of Home Free. I am not sure who they met first, they have been in a few of their videos. The harmonies that the three of them accomplish are incredible and chill creating in their ability. WOW!!! I would say you could listen to them to chill out and focus, then get energized to go on with your day. If you want someone to listen to that is just a voice, try Iam Tongi from American Idol. He is blowing everybody's minds this season with his raw talent.
When you react to Sound of Silence, take note that they turned around at the end of this video, then recorded Sound of Silence facing the other direction.

I would highly recommend diving into some Hound and the Fox. They are so sweet and so talented. They are just the best in my opinion. Her voice is so well suited for the folksy sound they do. But don't pigeon hole them. I mean, they did "It was Agatha All Along" from the Marvel universe. Not folksy and so perfect!!

The general category this kind of song falls in is probably "Folk Music". In his early days Paul Simon was a folk singer so Sound of Silence is a folk song of a sort. Folk music can cover many other styles including Blue Grass, some Southern Gospel, Sea Shanties, Irish and various ethnic musics, etc. Generally it is acoustic with simple, clean vocals.

The hound and the fox did an amazing version of "come little children" from the movie hocus-pocus, that'd be a good listen! Also the hound and the fox did the "my mother told me" song and they did the best job in my opinion than anyone else I've heard sing that song! I didn't realize this until now that Adam chance sings with them in that old Viking song!

Hound & the fox/ Home Free have a long history. They were Home Free's video producers for a few years after the sing off. Watch HF video Thinking Out Loud/ Lets Get it On. Lots of surprises besides the first date couple being Hound+the Fox. They decided to strike out musically on their own and Jimmy, the cameraman, took over the video business and still does lots of the Home Free video's Jimmy did most of the lockdown video editing.
