Interesting... since I started with Game Dev, being aware of game concepts didnt break the experience, but actually made it more fun. I find myself more often than not, slow walking through maps admiring the work of devs
For me personally it killed playing most pvp centered games, I hop on for an hour at most but then usually go back to just working on my projects instead. What I have come to appreciate more though is new fresh experiences that take time to learn, single player games and games with much longer game loops like Dayz. I still definitely play much less than I used to, but that's okay because I replaced it with is something I enjoy, programming and working towards making the exact game I want.
This sounds ideal. I spend way too much time gaming. If I could turn that time into time that generates income that would be sensational. I mean, I know exactly what you mean. I used to love movies but I worked as a projectionist when I was very young and it totally destroyed my interest in film. I was in charge of the press screening of the first LOTR. It was a big deal. It showed up with an armed guard who was making sure I wasn't recording the film from the projection booth. What he didn't know was that the job killed my interest in movies. I didn't even watch it. I still haven't. It showed up in its tins, I built it in about 45 minutes, played it, made sure the film wasn't upside down at reel changes then tore it down and put it back in the cans after I was done showing it and that was the only interaction I had with it.
Yeah, working near the vicinity of your hobby will do that… not only gaming and gamedev I suppose! But I feel like that the love for the medium (games in my case) shouldn’t die or get any less, because it’ll degrade the quality of my work. Or at least I think so.
i can tell from my experience for about half of year i spent my time learning C# and Unity and from certain point i started to do my own thing i can tell that i changed hobby, on one side i used to play factorio and a lot of tycoon games so the process is quite simmilar - you spend 2 hours building something and then you observe with pride your creation, but its really not gaming tho quite similar tho i can confirm if you want to achieve something you have to spend time on it, does not matter if its diamond rank, playing in a band, developing a skill, painitng a picture, learn how to manage datacentre...... or ... whatever in the end i allways am able to have a dota agaisnt bots before i go to sleep (as i need something mundaine and monotonous to calm myself down before bed) however 2 months ago my daughter has been born and that cuts most of your time man soo yeah gamedev is not really killing your hobbies, you just replace many hobbies for one (kinda like heroine) but having a child that truly cuts down your time for hobbies what is cool tho regarding gamedevelopement is you learn a new skill (if you didnt know programming before ofc. adn you use engine with multipurpose language) and thats usable in real world in your job or career (unlike being good in clicking on heads) so after all i would recommend to try everygamer to spend few weeks on few basic tutorials to do some basic games, in the end you at least learn to appretiate the Sisyphus effort required to make what we like to argue about with strangers on internet... and play them as well like jsut stupid simple stuff like pong thats a lot of work... then imagine how much goes into WoW, GTA, CS ,.... damn even inventory like in minecraft thats so much work .... i had no idea
Totally killed my hobby too. But I still find some games to be enjoying. My players will never understand the sacrifice I made to bring them fun games! Haha
Part of the problem is that games as a medium have been perverted by money hungry cash grabs. There are indie projects of course but it's tough for them to compete on polish. I recommend you don't get engrossed too much as it's a huuuuge time suck when you find the right one. 1000 levels later in Chivalry 2 I wonder if it was worth the time xD.
Yeah I agree, after the 10th Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Call of Duty etc you’d think they would come up with something new instead of the cash grabs. But time suck or not, its good to know what (not) to do for your indie game!
Hey nice Video, I really feel a kind of similar way, where I can only play games, in the genre that I am currently not working at, or am to untalented to pull off myself
@@The-Naked-Dev I mean no outside inputs. Like a bubble sealed off from the rest of the world. Depends if you want your output to be current or on trend in some way.

Thats amazing! Lucky you!!

Yeah I have the same I think, I don’t really appreciate online games that much anymore

Gratz on your new born!!! And yeah, ofc hobbies change! In my case I just stopped gaming all together, it was quite extreme!
I needed this .I have not been gaming for a while.
Shame on us right!
Totally killed my hobby too. But I still find some games to be enjoying. My players will never understand the sacrifice I made to bring them fun games! Haha
Hahaha, hear hear!!
5:23 Nice 🙂👍
Indeed it is ;)
Yep, learning c++ and game design for many hours, went back to play a game on steam, and boom, it was just NOT fun. Pretty bummed out tbh. :)
Nice song too lol, hit in the feels.
Know how you feel… just force yourself through it. It will become better eventually…

Thanks! So the better you become the less games you’ll be able to play! 🥲
@@The-Naked-Dev seems like it :(
Guess you have a very important decision to make 😭😱
I think you can create in a bubble and some of the best artists do. Whatever gets the juices flowing !
What do you mean by “create in a bubble”?
@@The-Naked-Dev I mean no outside inputs. Like a bubble sealed off from the rest of the world. Depends if you want your output to be current or on trend in some way.
@bobfunk5055 ah I see what you mean. Yes that is true, it would mean a potentially more original game if you stay in a bubble!
A short one this time! Another good motivation is to get a group of friends to play with, then you can't not play games. :D
This is indeed a good tip ;)
you need to play monster hunter problem fixed
Is it better than the last of us?🤣
Song name?
I make them myself, you can listen to them on my soundcloud. Link is in the description!
THE LAST OF US x5 LMAO
Well, it may be one of the best games I’ve ever played 🤣
I may be wrong, but I think he really like The Last of Us 1.
Meh it’s alright… 🤣
