Omg. I’m the owner of Madonia Bakery. I had no idea you were coming by to taste our cannoli and we are so glad you enjoyed them so much!! My great grandfather founded Madonia in 1918 and the business has never left the family. Thank you so much for visiting us and for appreciating what we do here. Please come back soon!
Congrats! That’s a big deal to get the approval of a picky Italian lol. I live in Texas but I will be sure to come try them if I ever make it up that way. Looks delicious.
Will have to visit you the next time I'm in NY
19:54 that’s great!
Well done Madonia.
Im going to have to make a pilgrimage all the way from Manhattan to Arthur Ave. there are so many great stores and restaurants there according to everybody that knows nyc
This was an emotional rollercoaster guys 😅
This was INTENSE! Any NYer watching knows just how much ground you covered… and on a stomach full of cannoli! 😂 But brava to both of you for doing this pastry justice - just so sad how many were prefilled. 😩
Great video!!!!!!
I thought you'd visit Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken. Would have love to see you judge their cannoli.
I love watching you two explore the world and foods ❤️❤️❤️
Thank GOD you guys went to the Bronx! I was practically screaming at my screen for you guys to head to Arthur Ave when I saw the sorry state of the cannoli's you were getting.
Half of this video was just y'all exposing all of NYC for making prefilled soggy cannolos. 😂😭 Thank you now I know where not to waste my time!
Yessss!! Daily dose of the Pasinis. Watching vlogs from my favorite couple makes my day complete. I'm binge-watching your videos, guys, and I'm so grateful for each new upload. ✨🥺❤❤❤
Ahh! This makes us so happy! Sending you our love!
What a great service this video is! You will save us so much time that we don’t have to go around hunting we’re delicious canolli! Thank you!
yall are so wholesome i love you both. thanks for all the smiles and laughter
I knew Madonia Bakery would be a hit for you guys! My cousin owns a pasticceria in Sicily and one year before Thanksgiving my dad was visiting relatives. Before he came back to NY, our cousin gave him the shells, cream, chocolate chips, and pastry bag to fill the cannoli. It was sooo good 😋
Thanks!!!
@@madoniabakery7610 You’re welcome. Anytime my dad and I venture over from Queens we stop by. I love your black olive bread and chocolate bread 😋
My great aunt Millie worked in a bakery in canarsie Brooklyn she came over as immigrant from Sicily , Palermo . When she worked there they had the best deserts oh man I miss that God rest her soul ,
That sparkle in Alessio's eye you know they hit the jackpot. Almost makes me want to go to NYC, but I don't like crowds. I'm from Texas...wide open spaces.
Same girl, same. I guess I could visit at least once but I already know I’d be miserable in no time. I don’t even like the bigger cities here in Texas.
Why not go to Italy instead? 🤦♂️
Loved this video Jessi & Alessio! My mom (a Sicilian) used to make Cannoli’s and I miss her and all the wonderful Italian food and culture I was raised with. She was a wonderful woman.
And yes, Cannoli’s should be filled only when you’re about to eat them, otherwise the shell gets soft. My mom made them with the chocolate chips in the filling or dipped in chopped pistachios.
Thank you again for such a fun video. God bless you both.
There's another place on arthur avenue, Egidio's Pasticceria that literally has exactly this. Amazing, filled-when you buy cannolis, with one side dipped into chocolate chips and the other into chopped pistachios. Amazing.
As I grew up outside NYC. You found the perfect place!! Their the best!! Miss NY for the flavor you can't find in the Midwest. Thank God, I learned to cook from real Italians from Sicily!!
I found your channel from your experience with endo. We went all the way to a Dr. In New york for my daughter surgery! The only time we've been there. after seeing the Arthur st. Video so wish we would have known that little gem of a place!! Looked amazing!
All the gems are outside of Manhattan. You want Italian, you go to the Bronx, you want Greek, you go to Queens, you want Russian, you go to Brooklyn.
I'm so happy to see this video because of the honesty and because I'm having this same issue on my travels and even here at home in Sydney. It's a shame that there are so many places that speak so highly of their authenticity and heritage but fall short when it comes to the right flavour and texture. Thanks for your work on this!
You guys went to Brooklyn but stayed mostly in downtown Brooklyn. Y'all looking for authentic Italian cannolis, you should've gone to Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst (Brooklyn's Little Italy). You won't be disappointed. There's a small Italian bakery where they make the cannolis fresh everyday and they'll fill them up with the cream as you wait.
You won’t find any authentic Italian anything in Bay Ridge anymore. You’d have to do Tasty Pastry in Dyker Heights. Bensonhurst is also on its way out, but Villabate Alba is still there. You might do better in Gravesend, on Ave U.
@@afcgeo882 Villabate has the only authentic cannolo in New York City. Sheep's milk ricotta. And while all Italian neighborhoods are dead or on life support, my parents are still able to get by fine in Dyker Heights without knowing any English. You can still live an "authentic" life here if you know where to look for it. These folks unfortunately do not, but I'm glad they had a good time!
@@BotanicalJourney Cannoli plus on new utrecth avenue in bensonhurst has the best cannolo i have ever tasted. Not pre filled
@@anthonyam202 That is a good place, though I haven't been there in years. Being pre-filled matters only when the cannoli aren't moving. More important to me is the ingredients. In my experience, Villabate is the only place in the city that uses sheep's milk ricotta, imported from Sicily, no less, and the taste is on par with a typical bakery in Palermo. Villabate is an excellent Sicilian bakery in Brooklyn and it would be a good/very good bakery in Palermo as well. The others... not so much. Not sure what this guy, who is from the Veneto, knows about cannoli. It's not part of his culture.
@@BotanicalJourney lets do a taste test together. villabate vs cannoli plus
Randomly got recommended this channel, and it really hits the mark. Great editing, giving solid descriptions how the taste and texture of the foods, and being so dang charming.
This was fantastic! Loved every minute of it!
You are both such a beautiful couple I love your videos really helps with my anxiety you both tranquil to watch and listen to keep up the good work
We moved to Florida from Michigan. Anytime we go back to the Detroit area, we bring back the Cannoli kit. Everything separate to fill at home, from Tringalis bakery. Best ever!
Just found you guy's I love this channel been watching all day. I'm all Italian and I'm telling you that the best Italian food is in the North End of Boston please take a trip to my city you won't be dissapointed. We have the best pasta pizza and Modern bakery has the best cannoli outside of 🇮🇹 🥰❤💚
Great video! You guys are the cutest couple ever ❤ Please find us the best gelato and the best tiramisu next!!
I've never liked cannoli, it must be because I've never tried one that's delicious, but the place you went, before the last one, all the desserts looked spectacular 😅 but you winner was Madonia 😮 the best part the pizza 🍕 lol 👌👌👌😜
It is truly amazing that there is a complete and utter difference between cannolis. Everyone has their favorite.
LOVE the honest reviews! You gotta go to Villabate in Brooklyn, that's the most famous place, surprised you missed it !
thank you so much
If you're ever in Cleveland, you have to try Rito's Bakery. I worked there briefly when I was 17 (and so did all of the neighborhood kids). They encourge their customers to take home the shells and filling separately.
Love love this video!❤
So glad!
We will definitely be going to Arthur Avenue very very soon! I’m so excited to try the things that you are recommending!!
Some food historians place the origins of cannoli in 827-1091 specifically in Caltanissetta, by the concubines of princes looking to capture their attention. Desserts similar to cannoli are the Middle Eastern Zaynab's fingers (أصابع زينب), which are filled with nuts and qanawāt (قنوات), deep-fried dough tubes filled with various sweets. In Malta and Albania, they call them Kannoli and Kanojët respectively
cool! am always interested in food facts like these.
Dolce and Clemente’s italian Market in Robbinsville NJ fill the shells fresh to order. Right next door to DeLorenzo’s Tomato Lies (since 1949) I never had a good cannolo before but next time in Robbinsville I will have to try theirs
Thank you for putting a smile on my face.. as I am making cannolis for Thanksgiving watching the video. 👍
I love your channel hope u had a great time tasting.
I love and appreciate all of your posts. I know you liked the olive bread when you visited Arthur Avenue but the Uber ride was expensive and long. I am so sorry you did not spot the olive bread at Caputo's bakery in Brooklyn because although the cannolis may not be the best, the olive bread it is so good I sometimes travel in from Long Island just to buy a couple of loaves. Try it and the lard bread next time you visit Brooklyn but go early or they will be sold out.
I live on Long Island in Suffolk County. Even some of the supermarket bakeries here fill the cannolis at purchase. I'm happy you finally hunted down a winner!
I just love love you two, Alessio your dissapointment and your excitement is pure and simply heart warming
I love that Jessi is on her way to becoming the cannoli snob! 🤣
I feel better seeing you guys disappointed by the Italian food in Little Italy. I went there once, was also disappointed, and quickly learned it was a tourist trap. Never thought to check out the food in neighboring boroughs like the Bronx or Brooklyn. I learned a lot about about cannoli here today. Thank you. Love you guys! ❤
Little Italy has been a tourist trap for 40+ years. All Italian neighborhoods in NYC are in decline, but you can still find immigrants and good food if you know where to look.
I definitely didn’t know where to look, but that’s good to know. Maybe someday I can return to NYC. It was glorious!
Philadelphia has a bunch of good cannoli bakeries try them
Hope you learned that not all Italians have the same recipe. I mean that is common sense though they like to insult them and say "Thats not Italian" because their recipes may vary from their own family recipe.
I mean who truly does that? It's one thing to say, I don't like this but to take away their heritage and families recipes is much different.
An example, I know 5 different Mexican women who all have very different recipes for Tamales. How rude would it be for me to say "oh that's not Mexican" to one of them because it varies from someone else's I enjoy.
All 5 of those ladies cook Tamales that are indeed considered Mexican in their case.
@BotanicalJourney They don't have to be immigrants. Most recipes passed from generation to generation from Immigrants and the restaurants are family owned.
I can' t stop looking at your videos. Love your account
You guys needed to try the gravesend or bensonhurst, Brooklyn area👌🏽
Yes! I was born and raised there. I Lived 32 years in Bensonhurst
Rainy day in San Francisco and we are enjoying your UA-cam channel. Grazie
U should have gone an Italian restaurant and ordered from the dessert menu. I had several this way when I visited 2 weeks ago, they were fresh filled and fabulous
Love this video because cannoli are my favorite dessert! My family went to a bakery for over 50 years but it’s not as good as it used to be otherwise I would suggest it. It’s in the Bronx and was first a German bakery which was later taken over by a Sicilian woman. I think she retired or something eventually. They made the cannoli fresh, none of that prefilled junk. They had chocolate chips in them.
I appreciate the honesty. I have been doing business in Italy for almost 30 years, and, as a lifelong New Yorker, I am stunned and shocked by the very poor quality of Italian pastries that are available here. Every pasticceria in NYC seems to be committing fraud. Most of their customers have no clue. IMO, nothing in NYC compares to the experiences you will find in Italy, if you visit the right places. I have heard the owner of Pane Pasta on 8th Street is from Sicily, and trying to bring authenticity to NYC. I'm surprised you did not try their cannoli.
An american lady and French Gentlemen looking for the best Cannoli in new york loving the vids about new york.
graziemille sei gentilissimo
Love the videos. Hopefully one day we get to see you guys rate foreign food in Italy😅
Oh I was getting worried that you wouldn't find a decent one, thank goodness victory after all those cannoli. 🙏🤗😋
It's your honesty that makes this channel.
❤️ 😍 thank you for sharing 🙏
Hi guys, I recommend Joe’s Sicilian Bakery in Bayside, Queens (fresh and not pre-filled cannolis - the best I’ve had in the U.S.), and Villabate Alba in Brooklyn (prefilled cannolis but still better than most other places).
grazie mille per la raccomandazione
@@ThePasinis In Villabate, ask them to make a fresh one and they will.
Went all the way to Brooklyn, but skipped two essential places! Villabate Alba in Bensonhurst. Best Sicilian bakery in NY. Also make great coffee and sfogliatelle. Then there is Coluccio and Sons, a Sicilian import store that sells the shells seperate with large 2 lb bags of cannoli cream. Also the only store in NY that has grating cacciacavlo
Absolutely!
And we Brooklynites know that sfogloatelle, not cannoli, are the true Sicilian pastries. Maybe pasticciotti too.
Concur. Villabate is where the cannolis are at.
I give you guys a lot of credit for running around the boroughs of NYC in search of good cannoli… I lived in Manhattan for 7 years and it is exhausting… no less going place to place and eating all that sugar, I’d be flat on the street with a massive sugar headache. Many years ago when we lived on the Upper East Side we would go to Little Italy quite frequently on a Sunday and eat at La Mela. Back in the day, La Mela was so much fun. It was authentic, and the food was amazing, and it always felt like you were at one big party. Sadly, after the original owners passed away, it is now just like any other common place Italian restaurant in the USA. But thankfully I have such great memories of what Little Italy and La Mela used to be like. And lol…my husband and I were at Ferrara’s last summer and we had 2 pastries, a bottle of water and my husband had an espresso… $50 without the tip…. Times have changed for sure…
I love you guys!
Grazie per le informazioni ❤🎉
I used to belong to an Italian Folkart organization here in Amerca. I did research On Sicily. Ancient Sicily was what I really loved to read about. It was the ARABS who brought the CANNOLI to SICILY!!! When I was in Sicily I had the best Cannoli ever ate in my life. Go to a Sicilian Bakery for the best or go to Sicily to get the finest original and AUTHENTIC Cannoli!!!
Living in NYC on the upper west side there’s a pizzeria that sells cannolo and fill them by order. They cost about $4 and are delicious. It’s Giovanni’s Pizza on 110 and Columbus Ave.
Wow!!! That’s a block from my house and I’ve never been there. It’s an unassuming place but I will definitely try it
I lost my cannoli recipe, but I know it had half and half, cornstarch to thicken it up can’t remember what else and dipped in chocolate chips on the end. Would never fill them until they were ordered. Now I am going to try to remember my recipe and make some.
Love you guys
I would at least ask if they will fill one freshly for you. Been in places that have prefilled ones on display but will fill one for you upon request.
Go to L’arte in Ramsey NJ. I’ve lived in Manhattan, Staten Island, and Arthur Ave. I’ve been to Sicily. L’arte in Ramsey NJ is the closest I’ve ever had to what I had in Sicilia. A must try. The chef is from Italy and will speak Italian with you. P.s. Madonia is also amazing but my new #2 behind L’arte.
The Bronx is where it’s at! Next time you have to go to Conti's Pastry Shoppe and Sal & Dom's Pastry Shop, the BEST!!
Try Rose & Joe in Astoria,Queens.
Last stop on the N or W Train
Right downstairs.
They fill them while you wait
I'd get 2 fresh at least.
I feel like I made the same tour looking for pizza bianca. Regarding cannoli, I have never been to Madonia because I never go to the Bronx, but I’ll try to get there sometime. The best one in Brooklyn is Villabate Alba. They import their ricotta fresh from Sicilia and, while they have prefilled cannoli, they will fill fresh for you.
I live in Portland OR. I went to a pizza restaurant that was New York style/Indian pizza style. They sold cannoli four for five dollars. They fill the cannoli to order. I'm not Italian so I cannot say it's the best or whatever. But they were crispy to the last bite, dipped generously in pistachio, the filling was thick and flavorsome. I would have paid double for the experience. (It takes a couple of seconds to fill the shells to order!! Why pre-fill them??)
I used to go to Caputo’s bakery every morning at the end of my night shift for a coffee and cookie. Great bread
Go back to Caputo for their Italian bread, been going for over 40 years and still my fav. They also make amazing banana bread and baguettes.
I love Caputo's italian bread. The bread my grandma would buy before she passed away.
There's a Sicilian Bakery that does cannole while you wait, freshly filled, they are to die for (but what do I know ) had to stop buying Them each week as i put on 2 stone !
Madonia is great but my favorite cannolis are from Gino’s along with their pignoli cookies. Next time you’re up by Arthur Avenue give him a visit. Try their cappuccino as well it’s the best I’ve ever had.
Need to go to a restaurant in Boston's Little Italy named Riccardo's. They fill them at your table, and they have all kinds of different toppings for the ends of your cannoli like chocolate chips and pistachios
You two should take a trip to Boston, some good Italian food and cannoli there
You two are the tidiest eaters! I'm so impressed with your table manners!
Seems to me that if your going to fill a crunchy shell with a wet filling you would want to coat the inside of that shell with something to keep it crunchy like maybe a thin chocolate coating. That way you could fill them up and at least get a few hours before they go soggy.
That was fun
You should have went to villabate in Brooklyn
Yes we had the best canoli there. My husband is from Sicily
You need to come to West Babylon Long Island. Go to Villabella bakery on little east neck road. The best cannoli you will eat. Never prefilled.
I wish you guys went to Villabate Alba in Brooklyn.
So fun your video
I want to take that challenge!!! When I was little we lived in LI NY. We would visit my grandparents on Sundays in Bensonhurst in Brooklyn, NY. My Nonno Ferrari would take us to the pastry shoppe to get Italian cookies & cannoli's. I love cannoli's!! I don't know the name of the shoppe
You need to come down to Philadelphia to Termini Brothers. Best Cannoli I've ever had, they fill it and customize it (with chocolate or nuts) while you wait.
I am glad you paid homage to his ancestors with the French flag in the shot.
You guys should check out the gelato!
You need to go to a restaurant instead of a bakery. Bakeries in New York City are set up to service people on the go. So that's why they have all the prefilled cannolis. But if you want a freshly filled one then look for a restaurant because they don't prefill. They are filled to order.
Some of them did fill while waiting. They were on the go anyway.
“Cannolis” is not a word. It’s difficult to take advice on the matter from someone that doesn’t know this.
@@brittanywalko3866 true!
We only fill to order because we’d never sacrifice quality for convenience!!!
@@madoniabakery7610 Yes! It only takes a minute anyway!
I also love DiLilo and Artuso in the Bronx. They make great cream puffs and birthday cakes.
Highly recommend Panino Rustico in Brooklyn. Idk if their cannoli is authentic but it's freshly piped
The best Cannoli I had was over 20 years ago at a little mom and pop Italian Deli in NJ run by 1st generation Italian immigrants. The shells were filled while you waited.
I love a good Cannoli.
I was married to an Italian for many years.
I love Cannoli so much! This is killing me!
😋😵
Have he tried fried ravioli and mozzarella sticks?! The irony is that in some part of southern Italy they do have ravioli fritti, mozzarella fritti, and spaghetti con palottine( meatballs).
isn't that more street food though? some restaurants in NYC find a way to make it a $12-$15 appetizer, so it's generally an easy skip over something more classic.
I'm not one to complain, I pay the price when I'm on a trip...but also I'd love to see a lot more Italian street food in NYC. Just y'know, on the street.
@@aysuppatruck6185 thers an Antico Vinaio open in NY i think no? i bet thats pretty good
I tried the cannoli in Cafe Palermo and hated it. It was my first cannoli ever and thought that it was supposed to taste like that. I will be in NY again in September so maybe I should try out Madonia bakery!
You should also try Circo’s on Knickerbocker Avenue in Brooklyn. I don’t know if you two will consider it a 10, maybe a possible 5-7. Though the way they make cannolis today is much different than when I was a kid. We didn’t have chocolate chips in them
I just loooooooooooove Cannoli!
I agree that they need to be filled fresh. Although Venieros has good stuff.
I would like to see a New Haven CT excursion. Besides the pizza they have some good bakeries as well.
Go to Brooklyn on 18th Avenue, Villa Abate. The best in New York, hands down! The ricotta comes from Sicily. Amazing pastries.
It’s Villabate Alba.
@@afcgeo882 you’re right! I’m getting old and stoonad, I forgot.
My aunt always had plenty of Alba pasty on hand every time I visited her. ( wonderful childhood memories)
As a Deaf American Sign Language user, I totally love Alessio’s gestures.
Omg! Madonia get the olive bread!
Catania's Bakery in Queens. They fill fresh. One of the best!
Where were you guys eating the pizza at the end? I live in NYC so I totally add your recommendations to my list lol
Very good choice with Madonia but you need to go to villabate in brooklyn on 18th avenue. May not be filled while you wait but filled everyday
Grew up in Canarsie in Brooklyn. now 40 years living in Madison WI. I am dying to go to Arthur avenue now, never been. Madison is great, but italian food, bagels, and seafood just don't cut it, even though there is an old italian neighborhood (Geenbush) here with an Italian Workman's Club. I would think Bath Beach/Bensonhurst /Bay Ridge area would still have some old school food in Brooklyn. I don't think I could eat more than one Cannoli in a day, but I could sure go for one right now. In Canarsie on avenue L we had a great Italian bakery and nextdoor a great Jewish bakery. True heaven. You do need to try Norske Nook in Osseo WI for pies before you die though.
Things have changed. Remsen Bakery used to be a great, but there are no Italians left in Canarsie, Bay Ridge or Bath Beach really. Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst are the last outposts.
Alba bakery on 18 Ave uses ricotta imported from Sicily. Best I've ever had.
I worked at a bakery in california and my boss had an 80 yr. Old Italian come in
Once a week and make authentic canolis and yes they were dipped on the ends with stuff😁😁😁😁
