I use to run a 5 pin, then switched to a 3 pin slider and then bought a single pin. It has been awesome with the single cause with the others I would end up aiming with the wrong pin
Loving the CBE 3 pin tl slider. Super versatile. The 3 pin is easy to see as it’s not cluttered like 5 or 7 pin scopes. Individual eyesight is very important here. Too many pins can be a negative when that deer you want so bad steps into range. With a 3 pin you have set pins like 25-35-45? and all you need to do is draw the bow. If you can really shoot and the deer is like 60 yards just dial the scope down using the 45 yard pin to 60. Generally an animal at that distance isn’t going to notice your movements anyway. I like the .010 pins with a rheostat light attachment. Great for the low light condition at dawn and dusk. Plus the light allows for in the night hog hunting here in Texas.
I might have a good idea for these podcasts! Instead of shooting a totally separate 10 minute talk, ya’ll should do a full length interview/podcast with the guests and implement a 10 minute talk segment within the full length podcast. You could post the 10 minute talk separately which could save on time, and the viewer could get a more comprehensive podcast as well. Just a thought!
Just as I got my first real bow (Hoyt Torrex) thanks guys btw it’s the Diamondback HD 10x50 binos and Crossfire HD rangefinder that I just got and really enjoy. I’d love if you guys produced another awesome coyote hunting podcast too it’s basically what got me going in it. I’ll double check but I don’t think you guys have had O’Neill Ops on the podcast for example. Always a good time to give coyote hunting strategies for current time of year etc
Congrats on your bow! Glad you're liking your optics too! And we can definitely see what we can do about getting some more coyote conversations in! Thanks for being a part of Vortex Nation 👊
I’m a dual pin fan for whitetail. Set it at 25 and my top pin covers me from 15-30, second pin covers me out to 40…..all with minimal to no hold over/under. I like 3-pin sliders for western hunts, though I make my top pin my slider which allows me to dial in any exact yardage if I have the time.
I am a hard core single pin slider user. I fell in love with it years ago and have used it for well over a decade. For most situations I keep it dialed to 30 and I can repeatedly and consistently hold for anything from 0 to 40 yards. If the animal is more then 40 I let it walk. I hunt texas, montana, and alaska and I set it the same way weather I am sitting a south Texas stand or I am glassing across a canyon in Alaska.
But that’s not simple if you have to remember to move it at the moment of truth. I tried a single pin slider and forgot to move it when the buck came in and shot under.
The biggest reason for most sliders to use the bottom pin is so you can get the most adjustment without risking contact acting the arrow with the sight housing. I've been running a 3 pin black gold verdict and pro slider for almost a decade. I'm switching to the dual trac this year for a cleaner sight window but still having more than a single pin. I don't get why people run a 5 pin slider. Why clutter up the sight window for not really any gain? Past 40 yards I've never had problems moving to adjust my sight with an animal in front of me. Then again if you like it and it works for you do it.
Used a single pin for years….but as I got older and trying to gauge distance with old eyes….i went to 3 pins….20-30-40 yds…Im a northeast woods hunter so I really dont need anything over that. I tried a 5 pin at the bow shop and it was too much in the site. 3 seems to be the right amount of info in the site.

Spot on, and exactly what I've been using. CBE engage hybrid 3-pin configured for those yardages. I've never had to take a 60 yd+ shot on game.
I can definitely shed some light on this topic.

Something other than firearms? Sweet.
I'm a multi pin guy personally.

That's a great example of how versatile it is! From Texas to Montana to Alaska - that's awesome!
My favorite sight ever is the Spot Hogg Hogg Father. Very pricey, but it's been very accurate for me
One pin, simplicity is king.

Do either of you use a lens on that sight and if so what power? 2,4,6?

I shot a deer in the back and it ran off. Screws the single pin my guys. It’s for targets in my opinion
So you messed up but it's a single pin sights fault? 9/10 it's user error.
5 pin slider FTW
To complicated for me I just shoot with a crossbow
8mm mauser train still chuggin
