Kudos for you trying to explain these differences. It was quite an issue for me because the Comfort Plus 45.5 showed a width of 111 vs Competition Last showing 117 and based on foot measuring I would not have fit the 201 and thus never considered it. Ended up with MX238 XC on sale and took the spikes off. Have not ridden yet..still practicing clipping in and out.

The comfort plus last is great, pity it's let down by inbuilt obsolescence. I hope they revise the t-nut plate in the current only comfort plus last shoe to be replaceable and when a customer has an issue with a faulty product, they solve it instead of ghosting them like myself and many others.

George, thank you for this very informative and helpful review. There are only two bike shops in my area that carry Lake shoes. However, they do not carry the insoles made by Lake. Instead, they carry Specialized insoles. Would you recommend Specialized insoles for use with Lake shoes? Also, would like to get your thoughts on the Last you would recommend based on the riding I do. Based on your presentation, I think the Sport last would be best for me. I ride for recreation primarily ( 50 - 100 miles on weekends), fast group rides (< 30 miles), and multi-day endurance events such as Tour de Cure (Diabetes), Multiple Sclerosis ( double centuries), Pedal de Cause (Cancer) one day event of 75 - 100 miles, and the Major Taylor International.

Thank you so much for your video. I've been looking into Lake shoes for a while now and I thing I would go for the CX242. Unfortunately, I'm between 2 widths at 107mm on a size 43.5! FYI - Lake needs to make a “large” difference between the two widths otherwise what would be the point of providing two lasts so 101mm-113mm seems more than appropriate. 1. I sell more Competition shoes than Race -
      2. The Competition last/complete shoe is cheaper to make than the Race last/shoe so you can make three different versions of it and it’s more affordable to make and to sell to the consumer.
      3. Many people have wide feet and have not been able to find comfort for years. They try one on and then they they try the bigger one and decide on the bigger one even with all the extra space. They want that extra room they’ve never had before.

      @@f.kieranfinney457I understand!
I’ve worked in bigger bike shops during my career. People would come in try shoes on then buy them online. I’d see these riders at events or group rides and notice their shoes and they would literally tell me that’s what they did. I understand a sale but I would tell them you could have given me a chance to match the price and they would say oh I didn’t know that.
Shops reduced their shoe inventory and the top end stuff was all special order and then eventually all shoes were special order as shoe companies started selling direct to consumer. That’s the real reason shops don’t carry shoes anymore. A shop buys a full size run of shoes and then the shoe company will discount them on their site lower than the price we paid for them.
People don’t want to be bothered by going into their local bike shop and try on shoes so our inventory sits and it’s huge money sunk and then we have to blow it out just to pay our invoices because the shoe company won’t ship us a 42.5 in black because we still owe them on the size run. Then we have to pay $2000 or $5000 to order a $300 shoe for a customer 😮
This is the shit that happens I’ve been in the bike business over 20 years and seen the changes and challenges.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad my story is complex. Sidenote: I use sidas custom insoles in every shoe.
I did the measurements. In theory 40 extra wide is my fit. Cx/mx332 and cx403 are using the same last and measurements, except that there is no xtrawide from the cx403
      1st wanted to buy a cx332
Cx332 40 extra wide was simply too short. 40.5 extra wide that time was not available so went w 40.5 wide and it worked. Then an accident happened to my 332, I thought I’m going to buy a 40.5 wide cx403 on the crash replacement discount. Went with 40.5 and it was so big ..like Noah’s ark 😄, 40 is okay but if you set the cleats identically
to the 332 it is still visibly longer than the 40.5 332.
Now I needed a new mtb shoe, okay I knew 332X works but I need 332XX and size 40. I went w mx332xx, 40 and 40.5 . 40: The feel was even worse than with the cx332xx 40. Was short and tight.
40.5 was okay in the room felt good. But had to test it on the bike..and the volume is soo much, compared to cx332X 40.5 that I don’t really like but can’t exchange anymore due to mounting cleats.
      Lessons learnt:
-from MX I should’ve stayed w 40.5 wide (now normal) eventhough measurements at home, at a lake approved bikefitter says 40, extea wide🥺
-CX403x and cx332x eventhough lake said using the same last, same toe length. In the same sizes there is a measureable difference (0.3-0.4 cm) difference between them in length
