By the way, do you have any plans on what game you’ll cover next? Just wondering. Regardless, thank you for everything.
It’s interesting how there’s really no antagonist in dark souls 3. It’s almost like the universe is screaming at you to finally the end cycle literally and mentally begging you to end a world that shouldn’t exist. While everyone else screams back trying to make the best decision for the world. It’s just sad and painful but everyone hopes that something better comes after regardless of what ending they choose.
Despite being confusing and extremely abstract, Dark Souls has a better and more interesting story to me than most other video games. Fighting Slave Knight Gael and realizing that this was the end of my journey with the Souls games was extremely powerful, and is one of my favorite moments in all of video games.
@@ThatGuy-lx4vy It would be cool to actually experience the lore and backstories of the characters, but I still enjoy the ambiguity. It allows for you to imagine these events similar to reading a novel.
A lot of people were upset that Dark Souls 3 referenced Dark Souls 1 a lot, but it honestly just makes sense for a sequel to do that, and Dark Souls 3 is a wonderful ending to the series. I love the stories of Pontiff, Nameless King, Gael and Midir too, really makes their fights hit that much harder.
There are people who said that DS3 relied too much on references, but I thought it made sense to see how much has changed in the thousand or more years since DS1.
This was my first souls game. Dark Souls 3 will always have a special place in my memories. And then before playing Elden Ring, I beat the game and linked the flam one last time. Dark Souls 3 had the best bosses and was an insanely good send off. Edit: To all you skeletons, Long may the sun shine!!!
As someone who started with Demons Souls I was able to see the series grow step by step but I'm curious how it is for you starting with 3? Did you go back and play the other games and if so was it difficult to adjust to the jankier movement of say Demons Souls compared to the smooth refined combat of DS3?
@@joeclarke7982 I went back to dark souls 1 to see how far the gameplay had changed over the three games. Starting with DS3 I believe was the best game for me to begin my souls journey. The gameplay is the best of the three and it has the best of the bosses. I was completely immersed in the story as well. Not truly knowing the story led me to multiple lore channels and into the community of these games. Following DS3, I went and beat Bloodborne and then best it again along with DS3 on the eve of Elden Ring.
Actual masterpiece: both the Dark Souls Trilogy and this channel's beautiful retelling of its thought-provoking, elegant story. The use of the in-game dialogue and cutscenes to tell a cohesive story (especially the breathtaking summary at the end of this video) really shows how this channel and these two wonderful brothers have a good narrative understanding of Dark Souls, and they can present that understanding through these wonderful 3 videos. I'm slowly making my way through this video, but I'm hyped for you guys getting a Raid sponsor. Not because I like Raid, I'm just happy when they throw their money at good UA-camrs
Its my head cannon that the ashen one is the chosen undead from the first game having chosen not to link the fire, this of course could be seen as a "failure" hence why the chosen undead is brought back. The first to have the opportunity to link the fire would be the absolute last one to be brought back to reattempt it. All the enemies defeated in ds1 and the path laid bare anyone could have come and linked it and that "age of dark" ending would not have lasted long, especially if you like the the idea of solaire linking the flame in your place as the creator likes to think himself. The chosen undead, now unkindled ash has risen again at the end of all things to right the mistake he made the first time around, simply leaving the flame to burn out wasn't enough, and a true snuffing of the embers must take place. On their journey they meet gaile, and patches, who like him was there from the beginning to witness the end, a connection that goes beyond words truly links these individuals beyond friendship, true understanding. Gaile provided the chosen undead with an alternate path, humanity should not have to meet its tragic end at the end of the age of fire, and they help in the completion of painting a new world for the final few left of humanity to escape to, a pocket world within a pocket world, its time so far removed from this accursed world it might as well be a fresh start. Alas, the ashen one is no longer human and cannot share such a forgiving fate, they are ash, no longer a human with a dark soul and its own humanity, they are linked with the dying flame, and along with the fire keeper who has now taken the first flame within herself you both await the end of this world together, the last 2 embers in a dark world providing the last bit of warmth for each other.
it seems there is no real true story. your story sounds as good as it may be. but it does eventually seem obvious no real hard story exists. linking the fire sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t. it’s seems all just made up for the purpose of releasing an action game with supposed “hard lore” but it’s too lazy really. nice theory tho. it could never be falsified.
@dmmd8304 as i said it's my "head cannon", you're correct in the sense that there is no hard lore when it comes to DS but some of that comes from the fact that there are multiple endings in each game, and no clearly defined timeline, as solaire pointed out himself in the first game. That is to say there is some interpretation needed for dark souls and I'd say its intentional, i feel like a fact that is overlooked by the fans quite often is that these games are roleplaying games, we choose who our characters are and what the path is. The lore is vague because it's our job to create the story ourselves, for example , the story i came up with. It's what i experienced personally by achieving the endings i did during my playthroughs and reflected my own thoughts and feelings as my character reflects them.
There could have been any untold number of generations of chosen undeads across these 3 games, 3's doesn't necessarily have to have been one we played from the previous games (especially since not everybody would have played those games). But the context of 3's ashen one is clear that its chosen undead has at least tried to go into the fire before, so he definitely would NOT have picked the dark ending of 1 or 2, since he DID go into the fire to become ash
@eddie2000ad sadly this Headcanon doesn't fit the actual lore. The Cemetery of Ash in which the Unkindled One is called back to life was build during Lothric's reign, so it's impossible that the Chosen Undead of Lordran is kept buried within it (just like the Lord of Cinders we found in DS3 are the Lord that linked the fire only under Lothric's reign and not all the Lord of Cinders of the entire history). Also: an unkindled is an undead that tried to link the flame without being powerful enough to do so and that lost it's heat because of that, so it's not possible that our main character is someone who refused to link the Flame
I've just gotten the trilogy and the expansions to play. So im not gonna watch this video until I finish. But I thank you in advance for all your efforts making this very long video. Your videos are really well written and I can tell that a big amount of effort was put into the writing and voicing, so thanks again.
It's probably better to watch the video then play. It's hard to get the story in one playthrough. The games are actually more about the journey. The journey is enhanced when you know the story. Also, dark souls 2 is hard to tie into the overall story anyways.
I struggle a lot with depression . I played dark souls remastered 1 year ago being guided by FightinCowboy's walkthrough. I fell in love. It became my favourite genre of games of all time. It helped me fight it. Until today, I recall fondly how I discovered death is lore-related on ds1 subreddit. Every time Laurence said "Don't you dare go Hollow" meant something, not just for the game, but for me. I must fight onwards, rebelling against fate itself, do not lose sight of myself or my goals. I vowed to understand its lore, but even Vaati couldn´t help. But after saying dark souls 1 and 3 lore video, I think im well informed. Thank you. Dark Souls and Berserk changed me as a sentient being. No matter how much futuristic this world is, it will always be made dreary due to humanity and their sins, but not even gods are moral saints. It's up to us to carve meaning to our existences, by ourselves, love fate and all of its hardships, even if that means tread the path in solitude. People are capable of the laudable deeds but also unspeakable crimes against themselves. I look forward to your next videos. It will surely help me find myself in this cell of a world. Be seeing ya friends. Don't you dare go Hollow
Dark Souls, past all the difficulty and the trials of death it puts you through, really is an epic story. This video helped me notice things I missed, like the Firelink Shrine being where you fought the Demon Prince, the Smoldering Lake being where Izalith was, and all the other small details that linked things together. Bravo on these lore videos, and thank you for them. They gave me a great appreciation for the story of Dark Souls, and many of the characters in the games. I couldn't have chose a better time to play through these insanely fun games.
The end of this series always strikes me in such a profound way. It's ironic that the soul of the furtive pigmy, shunned and turned away by Gwyn and the other Lords and considered the weakest soul by those same gods, would be the most sought-after soul at the end of time, and that the soul of humanity would be the only medium for a new world when time and fire had burned away all else. And for Gale to be the one to pursue the dark soul and live not only from the beginning of time but to see the end of it, only to be struck down when his journey was nearly to the end equals the irony of the pigmies. On top of it all we who have played the entire series and seen these different ages first-hand can only stare on at the vain uselessness of the struggle of it all, as all our previous iterations of lighting flame after flame and destroying the lords that held such power were all left to the hands of a slave and the souls of a pigmy. Also thank you for this video, over four hours of lore is nothing to scoff at.
These videos are consistent some of the deepest and best presented deconstruction of the lore and stories of these games. I can't thank you guys enough for the amazing content
At the release i used to think that Dark Souls 3 was just there to bring back the best parts of Dark Souls 1, but after awhile i realized how it was there to show much the world has deteriorated while you where gone. World is ending in Dark Souls universe and DS3 shows it perfectly. This is the perfect ending for the series. Awesome work putting this together!
Now in DS3's defense they can't squeeze a lot of DS2's lore because Drangleic is kinda disconnected from Lordran and Lothric but they certainly missed opportunities to include the efforts of Vendrick in there, like how Vendrick found a way to stop hollowing by the use of 4 crowns with some aspect of the flame, so in theory if the humans created enough crowns/accessory they all could've have been "cured" giving an alternate solution to finally rest
Now I may rest at peace, knowing the sacred knowledge shall be told to future generations. Thank ye, wise scholars. Thanks to thou's endless researches, the dark tale shall never be forgotten.
The way you tell these stories is better than I’ve ever seen, and I’ve watched a LOT of dark souls videos. I know an Elden Ring one would consist of like 10 hours, but I’ll be here for it if it ever comes!
Despite how hopeless the game is, in my opinion, it makes sense that it has a good ending. It would be nonsense if all the effort and not giving up were for nothing since the game tells you not to give up. Great video btw
So happy to finally see this video released! Your other FromSoft lore vidoes has been THE best ones that I have seen. Good job guys, can't wait to see what you are going to do next!

It's truly been incredible discovering Dark Souls over the the past few months, after trying to enjoy it for so many years. It truly has helped me stave off hollowing during a particularly dark period of depression with my C-PTSD and watching your videos after completing each game has been a wonderful way to cap each of them off. I look forward to watching more as I play through the rest of the From Soft games. Thank you for creating such awesome videos and bringing out the epic stories and incredible lore from this series!
Ive been coming back every day for the past couple of weeks because I was so excited for this video to drop. Thank you so much for everything you all have do! I understand that doing these videos take an absurd amount of commitment but they are so appreciated!!
I’m literally down to two bosses in my first DS3 playthrough (gundyr and first flame). Will be watching this in multiple sessions. I love how comprehensive your lore-dives are. My question: how much of this is you reading between the lines yourself, how much borrowing from other community theories, and what is explicit in the story? It seems like it’s all woven together v well so far!
We do our best to ensure that the majority of what we cover is factual in terms of Miyazaki's intended storytelling, however when we branch off into the realm of speculation, we attempt to shine light on the many different perspectives whilst making it clear that what is mentioned is naught but a theory. We also attempt to avoid theories that do not have any solid references to support them. Hope this answers your question, and thank you for watching! ❤
Finally got to come back and watch the video after the initial release and watching the other 2. This is genuinely some of the most enthralling work I've seen on the platform. The fact that not a minute of this 4 hour behemoth felt like it was dragging is a testament to both the intricacy of the lore and your all's ability to put it on display in a meaningful and powerful way. Looking forward to seeing you guys grow and continue on with your content. Thank you for this masterpiece
I just watched it over the course of 2 weeks and this is the best Dark Souls lore video I've ever seen. DS3 is 6 years old and I didn't even know about the painting being made. Incredible.
Played Dark Souls 3 years ago...found this channel much later. Every one of these videos makes me replay the game they're referring to. Love your alls videos, keep making content please. We need you
Dude I really can’t understand how are you keeping up with those greatly detailed high quality vids with such a lil support and audience but fr thank you ^^
Keep in mind that, while Elden Ring would already be extremely long as it is now, there’s a large chance that it gets DLC in the near future. Even Gwyn won’t save them then
After a week of going in and out of it, I just finished rewatching the whole trilogy again. And it reminded me how beautiful your style of storytelling was. Thank you again for making this wonderful trilogy.
Dark Souls came to me at a time where I myself was at a crossroads in life, dark and desolate days lingered on each path in front of me, yet in the decrepit world of dark souls is where I found solace, seeing the journey of the chosen undead, the bearer of the curse and finally the ashen one taught me that for there to be light there needs to be dark, life is a cycle if one begins it must end but that does not mean another does not rise. Your videos are the epitome of true homage given to not just any game but a piece of art oozing in rich lore and even more richer the path each undead risen from ash goes through. The sheer quality, dedication and pure passion breathed into these wonderous and deeply engaging videos are the pillars of any upstanding content creation and you guys have absolutely smashed it beyond all comprehension. I honestly just am in pure awe of how beautiful the world of Dark Souls really is and how magnificently detailed and true to its work each second of the souls saga videos are. Thank you for creating this, this will forever stay in my heart and I will always count myself thankful to have witnessed these videos.
Amazing detailed storytelling of the "hidden" lore of DS3. Despite how long it is, it's so well done, I'll be watching it multiple times not only bc I love this series, but bc of how great of a job you did.
I finished playing ds3 and was tuning in your channel at least once a week since January, this is definitely my most anticipated video, I have been waiting
The fact that you only have 78.8k subscribers is absolutely criminal, your work is that of a top tier UA-camr the best lore channel out there hands down no questions asked.
To me, DS3's story is Miyazaki's way of saying he doesn't like doing sequels, with its theme of a decaying world and its occupants desperately trying to prolong the age of fire instead of moving onto something new...kind of like how some video game companies keep pushing out the same copy and pasted game every year (CoD, Assasins Creed, etc) without trying something new or starting new different IPs. While some of Miyazaki's games are similar they are all unique when it comes to their mechanics and story and they have no connections to each other lore wise (besides the Dark Souls games, the 2nd not being Miyazaki's work and the third possibly being in an alternative universe to the 1st game, and DS3 being the only sequel in the SekiSoulsBorne franchise that hes worked on).
THANK YOU, I don't normally speed up videos but after almost turning off the video due to the cadence I came across your comment and it makes it tolerable.
Yall did so well with this video. Ive beat Dark Souls 3 four times, but never really understood the story. Yall’s research and hard work helped give more significance to all the hours i have happily put into the game. Thank you :)
The funny thing about this is, last night i checked on the channel to see if any new videos had dropped since it has been a few months, but i found nothing. Then literally the next day this video dropped and i am so excited to watch it. Love all of your content and you guys deserve every bit of success you get. Keep it up!!
1 video. That's all it took. I've been on UA-cam a long time, from the very beginning even. 1 video is all it took for me to fall in love with this channel. The bloodborne one to be specific. I thank you and deeply compliment you for your passionate work. Some of the best content I've come across in all these years. Keep it up, I'm looking forward to your elden ring series of videos, and I am burning with curiosity to know where you will go next. Thank you brother's code.
If you ask me, Dark Souls ends perfectly. The second game tells us of the First Sin, and the finale of this dying world is reveling in that sin. It makes total sense for all the layers to peel off and allow us to see the world's decay as a shadow of how this entire sickness began, and thus I have no issues with Dark Souls 3 being so connected to the first game.
3:17:20 Pretty sure this is just the dialogue you get from her when you show her "warm" ashes of an innocent NPC you've killed for not-the-first time, since the first time she gives you the benefit of the doubt. She's basically calling you a serial killer
I think it’s so fucking badass that Artorias’ soul was so powerful that not only did a bunch of bros just inherent fragments of it, but also started a essentially a cult whose sole purpose is to fight the Abyss
It’s essentially thanks to Gwyn because he gave parts of his soul to his four knights, which includes Artorias. So that’s a reason why Artorias’ soul was so powerful
No one makes souls lore like you guys. The crazy thing is just got into the games. I started with sekiro a few months ago and then played all the dark souls.
And to you amigo Paz y amor ❤️

Dark Souls, past all the difficulty and the trials of death it puts you through, really is an epic story. This video helped me notice things I missed, like the Firelink Shrine being where you fought the Demon Prince, the Smoldering Lake being where Izalith was, and all the other small details that linked things together.
Bravo on these lore videos, and thank you for them. They gave me a great appreciation for the story of Dark Souls, and many of the characters in the games. I couldn't have chose a better time to play through these insanely fun games.
We are really happy that the video provided what you were looking for, and we appreciate you taking the time to watch it. Thank you! ♥
You’re absolutely welcome my friend, and thank you for the high praise, it means a lot to us! ❤️

God damn never would have thought the 2 brothers were fucking chads.
Cant wait for the elden ring story lads!!!!
Thank you my friend, we appreciate you! ❤️
This is my 5th time watching this series. Just to recheck my knowledge and own theories. And I never get tired of this. Y’all are amazing!!!
Thank you so much, we appreciate you! ❤
This deserves more views, a real masterpiece yet to be discovered.
Thank you very much! ❤️
Holy mother of Gwynn- four hours?? I can’t wait to binge

Only an hour in… this is SO well put together. Amazing job. Thank you for this! And congrats on the channel growth.

This has been the best video I have ever watched in my entire time on UA-cam I will be recommending your channel to the ends of the earth so that others may experience the joy you have granted me. From the bottom of my heart thank you.
Your words are humbling my friend, it means a lot to hear this, so thank you! ♥
Absolutely sick video!!!
I realized I was a nerd when I heard "before we begin the next 4 hours of uninterrupted dark souls lore...'
This is one of the best Videos i have ever seen on UA-cam.!
Thank you so much, it means a lot to read this! ❤️
I haven’t even watched it and I’m so excited to get through it…man I’m so happy you guys did this. Awesome work can’t wait to get through it all
Thank you mate, we are so excited to finally have it out for you guys! ❤
Ive been coming back every day for the past couple of weeks because I was so excited for this video to drop. Thank you so much for everything you all have do! I understand that doing these videos take an absurd amount of commitment but they are so appreciated!!
You're welcome my friend, we appreciate the kind words, and thank you for taking the time to watch our videos! ♥
LETS GOOOOOOO. I’ve been waiting for this to drop. You brothers do a damn good job with this channel. I hope you grow even more in the future!
We appreciate that my dude, your support means a lot to us! ❤
One of the best vids on youtube.
Well done, skeleton! Make sure you pop in and try the DLC as well, it’s 100% worth it if you liked the base game
Good luck and praise the sun!
I have been waiting for this for five months. I look forward to falling asleep while playing this video for the next 3 weeks
A 4 hours video essay on a game that I love.. hmm surely it was absolutely worth watching till the end. I'll cherish every moment I spent doing this.
The reason we are maidenless in elden ring is because we kept killing them all in dark souls.
Why did this only get 100k views? It deserves much more.
Incredible.
Could we one day get all three of these videos in one big video? I use these to sleep fairly often lmao
This is the kind of video you just put on, relax, and game too. I enjoy these longer lore videos
In five years when we get a full understanding of Elden rings story, I will be here waiting.
4 flipping hours?!?!?!??!? You all madlad and I respect it. Imma spread this video to my fellow Ashen One.
Thank you so much, you're a legend for sharing our content, it means a lot to us! ❤
Thank you for all your hard work
You're welcome, thank you for taking the time to watch our content! ❤️
Played Dark Souls 3 years ago...found this channel much later.
Every one of these videos makes me replay the game they're referring to.
Love your alls videos, keep making content please. We need you
Thanks mate, we appreciate you supporting our journey, and we're glad that you enjoy our videos! ❤
I would love to have yours videos as a book, I love it
I watched your other videos 3 months ago and have been awaiting this one, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!!!

Wow I realized I never finished the ds2 vid and went back today to see this nice
this needs so many more views bro, props to u guys
Dude I really can’t understand how are you keeping up with those greatly detailed high quality vids with such a lil support and audience but fr thank you ^^
Thank you so much, comments like this motivate us to keep working! ❤️
4 hours for dark souls 3...So when they eventually do Elden Ring...Gwyn be with them.
Keep in mind that, while Elden Ring would already be extremely long as it is now, there’s a large chance that it gets DLC in the near future.
Even Gwyn won’t save them then
Man, i can’t even imagine how many hours the elden ring video will have.
looks up some lore to get an idea of what means what b4 i start
*4 hour video first result*
I’m sure this has to be the longest video I’ve watched on UA-cam, and zero filler. Great lore videos, guys. Keep it up!!
Just finished the video and i realy think it is the best video about ds3 lore
Thank you sir, we’re glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Amazing detailed storytelling of the "hidden" lore of DS3. Despite how long it is, it's so well done, I'll be watching it multiple times not only bc I love this series, but bc of how great of a job you did.
Thank you mate, we appreciate your support, and we’re glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️

Will you make an 8 hour video with all three stories? (PLS DO SO IF NOT)
Not sure about that one haha, we have however placed the trilogy in an 8 hour playlist if that helps? Thank you for watching! ❤
Such an impressive body of work. I feel I either don't need to or must play DS3 now
To me, DS3's story is Miyazaki's way of saying he doesn't like doing sequels, with its theme of a decaying world and its occupants desperately trying to prolong the age of fire instead of moving onto something new...kind of like how some video game companies keep pushing out the same copy and pasted game every year (CoD, Assasins Creed, etc) without trying something new or starting new different IPs.
PUT IT IN 1.25
Sincerly yours, a friend
yeah the cadence of the narration is awful. it is like. talking. like this.
THANK YOU, I don't normally speed up videos but after almost turning off the video due to the cadence I came across your comment and it makes it tolerable.
I’ve been saving this for my 5 hour drive today. Thank you, gentlemen.
You’re welcome Robert, hope you enjoyed the video! ❤️
Thank you Kyle, it means a lot to hear this, we appreciate you my friend! ❤
Incredible work guys! As an aside, you guys have to make a Spotify playlist with all of this music. You should both be so proud.
I'm 2 months late, but it was 4 hours long, and yet I couldn't turn it off. Really kept me interested, great work guys.
I stand by it. Midir is EASY... Now... After 173 tries...
So that’s a reason why Artorias’ soul was so powerful
you guys deserve much more views honestly
No one makes souls lore like you guys. The crazy thing is just got into the games. I started with sekiro a few months ago and then played all the dark souls. I watched your dark souls 1 lore video after beating the game and i loved it. After playing dark souls 3 I was wanting to watch your lore video but it wasnt there, so I didnt watch any other lore videos and I waited.. At last here it is just in time very close to when i got into the series. I just got a playstation so i can play bloodborne, I'll be watching your bloodborne lore after I beat the game and the only souls game i have left to to play is demon souls.
Yes it’s finally here! Good work you mad lads
Thanks Nathan, hope you enjoy it! ❤

Yeeeees I’ve been waiting for this!!! Thank you so much!
The research and layout is top tier, love how deep you guys got on it, only criticism is there are lots of random gaps in the narration that just don't belong
