C.I.G. gets such a bad rep for delays, but it's a consequence of how they started out as well as how most other games are developed. Usually, until a studio announces a game, it spends years in private development. And usually without the public knowing about it until the last year or two of development. For instance, Starfield actually started development some time in 2013, with a game engine that required comparatively little modification, with a budget over $400 million and an established studio. Up until the last month or so, most people don't get to put their hands on any game play. It's easy to see why people don't realize how much time it takes to make games...even easier to see why people get impatient with C.I.G. everyone is used to thinking it's a two or three year project. Let that sink in. The middling dumpster fire Starfield is, has been in development from nearly the same time with an equally mindblowing budget. And all I can really think of that they managed to add to their engine as far as "Groundbreaking" tech is the ship designer. In the meantime, C.I.G. has managed to completely overhaul the game engine (converting to 64-bit precision, Planet tech, Mining Gameplay, Salvaging Gameplay, weather systems & Hazards, unified 1-3rd person perspective, the removal of loading screens, Face-Over-I.P, Eye-tracking, Inverse Kinematics for foot-leg articulation, etc the list goes on), adding the complexity of multiplayer, and with the task of building the company up from less than 10 employees at the end of the kickstarter to multiple studios worldwide. All the while keeping it accessible and playable. Put the unfinished Alpha of Star citizen next to "completed" Starfield and it's not even close when you compare the two. Consider how much C.I.G. has managed to accomplish in the time it has been in development. And then consider how little was accomplished in starfield. Keep in mind, C.I.G. is actually building two games at once. Is it REALLY that difficult to understand why it's taking time to make these two games? I put to you that if anything, the progress and quality that they have put forward to date is far beyond anything any game studios to date have been able to accomplish, and that some people's expectations don't take into account the amount of development that has been poured into the project.
Then again, for better or worse, if they don't promote in the way they are, CIG probably won't get those budget, especially with no publishers and investors. As much as development time is important, same goes for money to feed the employees.
Imgine if people knew BGS were working on starfield 8 years ago. We would hear the same whine about how long it takes and never comes out. Could even argue it wasn't even finished when it did come out. SQ 42 and Citizen aren't outliers in terms of development time. It's just that everyone are aware about when it started due to the crowdfunding. I 100% agree with your post.
Hold the line means promoting, supporting, and backing it DURING development Doing anything after release is not holding the line it's wait for the soldiers to come back victorious No shame in either options, some don't have 45 to throw at this project, and some don't have the optimism, we're all different :)
It made me laugh when guys like salte Mike claimed they held the line (and he even saluted at that point in the video lol) yet spent the last god knows how many years constantly shitting on the project lol
@@UncleBenjs Shitting on it isn't accurate, they rightly criticised it where and when it should be criticised, because they love the project and want it to meet its potential. That's just being a reasonable person.
@@B.D.E. Why so? It took as long as any other game, quicker in fact when you consider they also had to build an entire company and everything that goes with that. Most of these time frame criticisms were unwarranted and not grounded at all
IAE 2953 is from 17 November until 30 November where you can try Star Citizen for free. Every day there is a new hall with different ships to rent for free in-game.
Indeed servers are usually hammered during that time. See Star Citizen and Squadron 42 as 2 totally different projects. Star Citizen is in continous development with every 3 months a patch that fixes old bugs, introduces new bugs. Star Citizen being a multiplayer has servers that are often under high load. Squadron 42 as single player compaign will be polished & fixed before release and will not face these issues.
Just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who's engaged with my videos! Not to mention the warm welcome I received from a whole number of you.😄 I plan to dip my toes into the game coming November 17 when the IAE starts. Appreciate all of you for informing me of that.
Do keep in mind that during these free fly events the servers tend to perform pretty rough, due to amount of shenanigins new players try, and the amount of garbage and destroyed ships laying around.
Definitely jump in! For the best experience, I’d reach out to someone who plays and have them walk you through the basics of the game. It definitely leans super heavy into the simulator side of things, so vehicle controls tend to be rather complex. I personally love the game’s complexity, which is why I backed it, but I know that it isn’t for everyone.
Squadron 42 has quite a few big name actors on the cast. Gary Oldman - Admiral Ernst Bishop, he had that big "hold the line" speech. (Admiral of the 2nd fleet and commander of the UEES Retribution, the only Retribution class super dreadnaught, and the largest human ship in lore, designed specifically to fight Vanduul Kingships) Mark Hamill - Lt. Cdr. Steve 'Old Man' Colton, he appears several times throughout the trailer (flight instructor aboard the UEES Stanton, will play a sort of mentorship role to the player character) he also played a character in one of Chris Robert's older games, Wing Commander. Mark Strong - Captain Thomas Wade. the bald guy you recognized. (the commander of the UEES Krugiri, a Bengal class carrier, and a member of the 2nd fleet) John Rhys-Davies - Randall Graves, he appears briefly at 15:43. (Chief of security aboard the Archon Base space station and a UEE Navy veteran) Liam Cunningham - Captain Noah White, he appears at 17:18, one of the people you recognized (commander of the UEES Stanton, an Idris class frigate, and a member of the 2nd fleet, as well as the ship the player character and Mark Hamill's character are stationed on) Gillian Anderson - Captain Rachael MacLaren, the captain the player character talks to in the beginning. (commander of the UEES gauntlet, which is a Javelin class destroyer, and a member of the 2nd fleet. she is also the daughter of Admiral Bishop) Henry Cavill - Ryan Enright, he doesn't show up in this trailer much, but I'm pretty sure that's him in the fighter in the opening shot (pilot in the 2nd fleet, not much is known about the character yet) he's actually the one who reached out to CIG asking to be in it, and (at least according to rumor) even offered to do it for free because he didn't want to take money away from development. Andy Serkis - Thul'Oquray (a member of the Vanduul, an alien race that are the main antagonists of the game. he doesn't show up in the trailer, though you can see other vanduul at the very end.) this universe has a LOT of lore, there are a lot of good videos about it on youtube if you wanna go down that rabbit hole
Their convo was between the captain of the ship and a low ranking person. However, they knew they were most likely going to be dead soon so that's why the convo is so mellow and informal.
@@KeroValentineThere's quite a bit of lore in the Star Citizens universe. The United Empire of Earth has just recovered from a dictatorship and a cold war with alien empire. They've defeated another alien empire and settled their home planet, leaving their population as second class citizens of the United Empire of Earth. They're trading with a third alien alien race, one where slavery and banditry is common. And there's one last alien race that has never had friendly relations with humanity, the Vanduuls at the end of that video. The Vanduuls out match the United Empire of Earth, the only reason they haven't crushed the empire yetbis that they're not unified but multiple nomadic clans and warbands attacking one by one, often defeating the empire, but so far being stopped eventually and so far not necessarily focussed on humanity. They have bigger hangar ships then the UEE navy does, with more fighters. They're better adapted to zero-G fighting, and just in general really, really scary. The UEE navy is *seriously* stretched thin, and isn't able to deal with all of the pirates etc. Under the dictatorship the UEE has driven intelligent species to extinction, terraforming their home planet to *our* needs despite dooming them, and other races are a bit weary of us as a result. We're *trying* to make up for that by building a new planet from scratch for ourselves, so we won't need to take others, "proving" what we're genuinely trying to not be a threat. And while the UEE senate has representatives from the various UEE planets the individual planets might have multiple nations, and sometimes they're at war with each other... We're talking about a universe with 100 star systems discovered so far. You can look up the maps and the wiki on the website telling you more about the lore.
Mark Strong is bald dude. He was in The Kingsman, badguy in sherlock holmes etc. but youve got Gillian anderson (xfiles lass) Gary Oldman Mark strong Liam Cunningham (game of thrones dude) John Rhys-Davies (Gimli / treebeard) Jack Huston (Ben-Hur and Boardwalk Empire) Ben Mendelsohn (Talos in captain marvel) Sophie Wu (kick ass) Rhona Mitra (underworld series) Craig Fairbrass (rise of the footsoldier / battlefield and COD voices too) So yeah a pretty solid list all in..oh and Henry Cavill whom apparently didn't asked to be paid for his role to not take away development funds (rumour)
And players can do this in-game right now too. I can be on one planet and call you on another, and you'll see my face and my ship etc in the background as I walk around.
For a little context: the reason it's taken so long is because everything they wanted to do (or rather, what Chris wanted in his game) didn't exist tech wise. So they had to spend years R&D'ing groundbreaking new tech (some of which will have multiple applications outside of Star Citizen/SQ42) to get the game to look, run, and achieve a lot of what you're seeing in the video. For instance, the 64-bit floating point precision for large world simulation is something only the StarEngine is capable of right now, as it can pinpoint and track entities down to the hundrendth-million scale. For comparison, the UE5.4 (the upcoming release in 2024) affords double floating point precision only to the tenth-million scale (approximately 88 million km). Epic is still struggling to achieve stability at that scale, which is why we don't have any open-world/open-space games made in the UE4 or UE5 to that scale. They're also tracking up to 2 million entities per frame, which is something no other engine right now can achieve in real-time without crashing. So basically, they had to spend a TON of time, money, resources, and engineering power to bring a lot of this tech to life over the years, and you're seeing some of that culminate in the StarEngine/Squadron 42 videos. Of course, as you said, whether or not this results in an actual fun game to play? That remains to be seen. I've mostly backed them for the tech advances they've made that will drastically alter the course of the software industry thanks to scalable technologies like PES + dynamic server meshing, which could technically be applied to enterprise software distribution services as well.
@Vinterloft There was no engine with good enough netcode to do what they wanted when it came to the fidelity that they wanted to achieve. They were always going to have to build bespoke tech for what they wanted to do.
@@Vinterloft I dont know if that is a downside or not since some of the lead programmers making this game and helping to build the code for it used to be lead programmers and creators of the original cry-engine. So in a way it's like Cry-Engine new and improved. The only reason its called star engine is because of issues they had with the cry engine company, they swapped to lumber yard which used cryengine so they wouldn't be beholden to the crytech company. Then they changed so much of the code that not much of the original cryengine is used. But several of the people changing the code used to work for cryengine. Because they have changed so much of the code they are allowed legally to name the engine as a new engine. Thus Star Engine.
@@Billy-bc8pk But there were engines that would have taken less work to get where they are now (whether they could license a version of the engine on their budget is another story though). Like a lot of the tech they had to develop just came out of the box in a lot of other engines. Sure, the big, flashy tech needed to be built from scratch, but stuff like the UI system or updating the networking to sync everything between every player, regardless of distance between each other were things that took years of development time and just come standard in most other engines. They also could have just started entirely from scratch on an engine. With as extensive of an overhaul as they've done on CryEngine, it probably would've been faster. Though it also would've been much longer before they got something tangible in player hands. Likely wouldn't have taken off with crowdfunding if it didn't have shiny graphics to market itself on.
@@fwg1994There is literally no engine from 2012 with out-of-the-box networking solutions that they had to develop and design. And not one engine from 2012 was available that would have required LESS work than the work they had to do regardless. Plus, starting from scratch would have taken even longer because CryEngine came with a lot of bespoke features they didn't have to design or redesign, such as procedural blended actor IK for environmental pathfinding (which was a big selling point for Crysis), global illumination, and embedded vehicular support. Designing all of that from scratch would have added half a decade's worth of development time to the project.
They actually ave a locked release date internally (it was confirmed by Chris Robert himself) but they don’t want the picture of the company to go down even further. They are just waiting to be 120% sure that they can keep there promises.
i heard a rumor of a leak that said itll be released during april i think it said. however i think even if that is their projected date itll be more like august, or more likely next citcon
Star citizen was a project by 13 people in 2012 they were 700 in 2018 and now they are over 1200 In 2013 they were building their studios from scratch now they have 5 big studios around the globe The developpement really began in 2014/2015 (where they were 160 ish btw) And we know them since the begining of the project not even the developement that's why to us they seems to be in developpement for too long But in reality games like RDR2 with 2000 devs since the start were in developement for 8 Years Same with Cyberpunk which we all know how it was at release. And don't forget CIG are developping 2 games One MMO and one AAA + their own Engine So to me they aren't slow at all in fact they are pretty fast. I've backed the project since 2014 and to me it was amazing to see the progress throught those years. I've already had more fun in star citizen than 90% of games out their. Keep in mind 100% of the money they get are for the game and the engine they develop you can't say that for other games out there. Except for 40 millions which was donate by really rich investor for promoting SQ42 but that's a different story. I am sure at 100% it will release before we die, i'm a dev so now i know where they are and with this scale of the project polishing phase can take 1 or 2 years at worst. But i prefer they take the time to deliver us the best game possible than another mess like Cyberpunk or more recently starfield. And if you want where they come from for SQ42 you can watch 2017 vertical slice keep in mind in 2017 Andromeda was released in my language we called it "Andromerda" merda mean shit. You can also watch SQ42 trailer from 2018 and visual teaser from 2019 they show us more things than the demo of this years but yes i'm pretty exciting.
5:23 The reason for the somber mood, in short, is that they're both expecting to die because of where they are currently patrolling. The whole fleet is prepping for an imminent attack from an enemy that they know they have very little chance of surviving against. The scene is of the character's trying to calm their nerves.
13:28 no there's zero cgi in this game it's all in game. The mocap is for the character movements. It's done the same way the last of us did their mocap all in game renders.
Held the line strikes close to heart. For me it's been 7 years and close to 10k put into a dream game This year seeing Server Meshing become a reality is a huge relief as nobody even knew if it was possible, and without it Star Citizen's vision wouldn't be possible On top of that Squadron 42 looks fantastic Now I'm just chilling out, watching reaction videos like yours and enjoying the vibe. Thanks for your great content and hope to see you in the verse!
I think something worth noting is that SQ42 is in the same universe as Star Citizen but doesn't follow the same exact ambitions of SC's "everything game". I'd expect you'll have a good amount of liberty navigating the world, but it's still gonna be a somewhat linear, mission based story. Between SQ42 and SC, SC is closer to Starfield, but honestly, all 3 games are quite different from each other, despite them all being space games.
Yes, Star Citizen is the experience you can have now and its continuing to make good strides forward with tech and gameplay. Something else to note is this is the first chapter to SQ42, there are 2 more planned as far as I know. @@KeroValentine
Apparently their internal release date is Christmas 2024. But the game is too big. Starfield spent about 1 year in polishing. I can't expect this game to take less time, but more. So 2025 seems like more a realistic goal. But if they achieve it in 1 year, it will be awesome.
If they achieve it in fall 2024 (or not too far from that) not only will it be awesome but it will be a great ensurance for all the skeptics of the game too; which tbh I'd count myself amongst 👍👍
Squadron 42 I think we will get a hard release date by next CitCon (October) or Xmas at the latest, I have been a backer from the beginning. My analogy is they have essentially been building a mansion to move into and enjoy one day but in the mean time they needed to keep you sheltered with a little busted up house that has some broken windows and doors. The progress has been slow and consistent for many years, this last couple years has seen a decent up tick in content coming out and this past year has been fairly good. PES (persistent entity streaming) was released earlier this year and was quite a mess but it was a necessary major stepping stone to get the game ready for server meshing which is the last foundational piece to get into place, this will allow Star Citizen to become much larger and more capable. The company moved a lot of developers over onto Squadron 42 for a year or 2 now to really get it to where it is now, all tech in SQ42 feeds directly into SC and visa-versa. Now that SQ42 is feature complete they have moved devs back to SC to push things forward for server meshing, this last CitCon really showed off what they have been working on and should be coming online over the next year. There really are too many aspects of the games to go into detail about but I'm quite excited for the next 12 months. Btw some other actors in SQ42 are Henry Cavill, Mark Strong (the bald guy), John Rhys-Davies, Ben Mendelsohn and Andy Serkis. Give things a try in the upcoming free-fly event from Nov 17-30 and welcome to the Verse!
Just a note. This presentation is not a trailer, but describing the features for the single player campaign to the backers. Pretty much describing the milestone that is feature complete.
It's always hard to know when to be hyped for this game but as someone who has been around from near the very beginning I think it's time. The amount of work going into this is quite mind blowing and it's easy to be excited but it's also important to manage expectations and understand that bugs are an inevitability. As for fan theories go the next citizen Con in a year is what many would assume to be the earliest possible time for this to release. The bald guy I believe was an actor named Mark Strong and I don't think he would be a bad guy as you saw the are aliens and those aliens are not friendly, they speak a language of the same name as their species which is Vanduul and there is a translation of what he said and it was not "we come in peace". This video largely does not cover story and setting but those things are generally known. If you didn't know much about the game from before as many mention there is an event from the 17th to try it for free for a couple weeks. Bugs are highly present but for the veteran players its fairly reasonable and most bugs can be avoided.
There is no coop in sq42, it is single player only, but the MMO Star Citizen will have the same star systems Sq42 takes place in (Vega and Odin) albeit many years after the events of Sq42 took place.
Being a supporter of SC since 2012 its really awesome to see where someone new sees the game. Yes its taken a long time but I believe GTA6 has taken just about as long so give it time. Thanks for sharing your first look, it was refreshing. One thing you have already noticed from your last video to this one is there is a massive community that will help you get started once you jump in. Welcome to the 'verse
With how crazy this game looks, I'm glad such a community exists. Not the sharpest tool in the shed so I need all the help I can get lol - Thanks for the welcome my friend!
What people don't understand about CIG is this: The game comes first, money is a byproduct of the quality of the game itself. All of the backers of this game are tired of empty promises by all the so called triple A studios out there making pure garbage year after year, rushed, buggy cash grab pieces of garbage. 1 - The gameplay you're seeing is minimal, they've tried hard not to spoil the story of the game. 2 - All that you see is in-game footage there isn't any archaic obsolete full CGI cutscenes breaking immersion in the game. 3 - If anything cyberpunk copied SQ42 not the other way around. 4 - @21:11 Attention to detail, don't you hate it when a gun simply teleports to your hands instead of naturally reaching for it? They developed a whole system just so we could have that feeling of realism.
The actor you are asking about is Mark Strong who has appeared in films like Kingsman. There is also Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian (Scully) Anderson among many other celebrities besides Superman also known as Henry Cavil :p
here another thing, the game has FOIP, Face Over IP, If you set it up wit your web camera Your avatar's face moves withyours and mouth and eyes. If replicates your own face movements. It can be tricky to get to work right
the trick to getting the best out of FOIP is a high fps camera (60 fps or greater), zoomed in on your face (so it can better pick up the details), enough good lighting for the camera to distinguish your facial features and a trimmed beard that shows your lips and glasses that do not interfere with your eyebrow and eye movements. then you just need to keybind the re-calibration feature to do it when the tracking breaks.
@@KeroValentine hey, we are here to help. if you want my advice for when you jump in, go in blind and at your own pace. then just ask people in chat when you get stuck. it can have a steep learning curve, just don't let that frustrate you, instead slow down and read the in-game signs like you would irl. atm, Microtech and ArcCorp are the only planets with a bare bones tutorial, i recommend Microtech if you want to go that route. feel free to ask here, if you have any questions.
14:23 What they mean by lead character is the character model/voice. I believe all the cutscenes were done in mocap and they had a male and female to play the player character. So they wanted to add more subtle interactions for the female player character so they brought back the actress to do some more scenes.
Squadron 42 is not star citizen. Cloud imperium games are making 2 games with the same Engine. Star Citizen is the mmo more sandbox and Squadron 42 is a cinematic story driven space adventure in the spirit of wing commander made by chris roberts that is also the main guy at the head of star citizen and SQ42. Sq42 wont be as open as star Citizen its more of a linear story, they will use the power of the engine tho to almost never cut or have loading... so if we go on a section of a planets it will be inr eal time but i dont think the story will push us to explore an entire planet like in star citizen... Its supposed to be the game that build a big part of the lore and attachement for Star citizen as its in the same universe 20 years before star citizen. I dont know if its still in the plan, but they were saying that you could play your SQ42 character in Star citizen after completing Sq42. And another thing to reminds... chris Roberts is a guy that have the most attention to details and thats why those project took so long, also the fact that they had tom create all the tools to modify lumberyard engine into The star engine... they almost changed it 80 percent. Another thing to note we often talk about graphic downgrades in video game.... in that case we wont see any downgrade but maybe the opposite because in this demo of sq42 and even the Demo of Star engine, they have the same lighting system that is currently used in Star Citizen but in the next 7-8 months they plan to integrate Ray tracing and global illimination in the engine, so the lighting in sq42 might even be more relaistic than they already are at launch. This project took a long time because 1 . they were making 2 games. Sq42 was the main focus for almosy 7 years of those 11 years This projectwas in developpement. 80 percent of the employees were on sq42 most of the time. thats long, very long, butthey had to anyway build the engine, they could not have added that much more to star citizen anyway because they were missing the server tech to expand star citizen as they wanted. So they worked on tech and sq42 at the same times. Important to note that Sq42 episode 1 because its a story that is supposed to be told in 3 episode so 2 other game should fallow. One of the reason sq42 is so important is that if its a big success Cloud imperium games will be able to have 2 big team after, 1 team that work on sq42 episode 2 and 3 and 1 big team that work on star citizen full time.. For the Polish phase of Sq42 i would not expect it to Release in 2024, but i have a good feeling for october 2025 in 2 years we will play it i think.
Thank you for taking the time to explain the differences between Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. It takes a bit of time to understand the eco-system of this game and comments like yours certainly help with that.
As an Evocati Tester for 6 years and Backer for 12 Years, talking to others I think SQ42 will be released Citizen Con 2024, As John Crew (Dev ship Designer) Said "Idris will be released in 12 Months time "(Est), and In another interview said Idris will come out when SQ42 is Released, Is this a possible link?, we can all hope
15:20 - Thats Gary Oldman (one of the finest actors in hollywood playing Bishop) - the bald guy you said you recognized is: Mark Strong from the Kingsman franchise, In the beginning the woman he is talking to is Gillan Anderson from X Files. Chris Roberts hired a young Mark Hamill straight out of Return of The Jedi to be his main character in the Wing Commander series one of the first FMV video games ever made and one of the best. Chris & Mark go way back and they were super excited to work together again along with John Ryhs Davies who was also in Wing Commander back in the day as well.
22:52 Mark Strong, you've prolly seen him in Kingsmen? Edit: Since you ended up asking... I started backing the game in late 2013. I'm an engineer in software development. The past 4 years they hauled arse in building tools, teaching those tools to all the devs/artists. That why SQ 42 is feature complete and in its polish phase. From what I've seen, and knowing that they "internal" date is around same period next year, I wouldn't be surprised with a release next year for SQ42, and a beta for SC (the MMO part). And no, SQ42 is single player only. But as you play through, you unlock several benefits in Star Citizen.
LOL you made the same mistake I did.... thinking the Manchester shot was in-game. Hahahaha.... a lot of content creators made the exact same mistake thinking Manchester was an in-game shot.
Tbh we were all tricked... Seeing the "Earth system" note in the corner was like, WTF they did the Earth and never teased it to us! Good one CIG, you got us all ^^
@IndianaJade That's a really good point, and yeah CIG was definitely being cheeky putting the note in the corner like they did in the StarEngine video, so it definitely made it seem like it was an in-engine/in-game shot.
They have a release date nailed in, they just didn't tell us, because of the bad rep they got in the past when they communicated one. Other than that, SQ42 release by the end of next year, or first half of 2025 at the latest. Gameplay wise, the choices that you will make in the game will impact and move over even to the things you will be able to do in Star Citizen, after you finish the campaign and decide to move in the multiplayer universe. We don't know exactly what the gameplay will be, but we have strong hints that at least will be decent or above average. We'll have to wait and see. Although even if it's average, combined with the storytelling the visuals, the scale, all that tech they put in all these years, not to mention the A-list actors, it's shaping to be a AAA title. And if the gameplay is top tier, it will knock everything out of the park.
@@chaadlosan while there is a chance of that happening, it is still only speculation... the more realistic take i heared is we get a planned releasedate next CitizenCon....
Squadron 42: The single player, story driven game. Star Citizen: The MMO (There isn't a whole lot of storied content in this game yet as most of the focus has been on Squadron 42, but it still has a decent number of things to do. Most of which is player driven) Star Engine: (The other video your reacted to was a showcase of this) The backbone of both games. All being developed simultaneously. Squadron 42 is now in the "polish" phase (feature complete as stated in this video) which means more focus can be put onto Star Citizen. The game engine itself is also pretty much complete.
lol just finished watching your starengine reaction and recomended you watch this but you already have :) Cutscenes are all in engine during gameplay not pre-rendered. we are supposed to even have the ability to disengage the cinematic camera and play during some cutscene dialogue much like in half-life2 though it sounds like there will be knock on effects with our NPC relationships if we're disrespectful etc. The mood was melancholy because they are patrolling after sensors detected an alien incursion in the system and they don't expect to survive an encounter with the Vanduul, they've been wiping out entire colonies that humanity have established on worlds near their boarder. Lol, so many of us got duped by that drone footage and thought it was an in-game preview of earth. Framerate isn't good cause it's not optimized yet just feature complete, still a year plus of polish to go. FPS combat is a little on the less hardcore side but they are aiming for realistic/immersive, in the end though i think the rule of cool and how the gameplay feels overrides any of that for the developers. You can test out the current version in the StarMarine module of SC during the free-fly event this month if you like. Lol, that guy does get type casted as a badguy a lot but idk doubt they need that betrayal dynamic from him. Most of that graphical improvement outside of retextures is lighting and they aren't even showcasing their raytracing work in this trailer it's going to look even better.
@@KeroValentineif that wasn't obvious already: the SC community is generally _passionately welcoming if you show the slightest interest._ You can expect a similar experience in-game: stranded on a planet after your ship exploded? Someone will pick you up. Expect also a tour of his ship, maybe even fly it. Awesome similar stories are flooding their reddit on a regular basis.
I can’t believe it’s finally almost here I envy those who didn’t wait 10 years but I also envy people who have just discovered the masterpieces that are SQ42 and SC
lmao I got duped with the Manchester shot too - thanks for reacting to this video too! Gameplay footage is sometimes is stuttery bc it's still not optimized, bc they're showing off how it actually is right now. I think it genuinely could get released within a year, but for the sake of safety, I'm guessing within two years. They still need to tweak, polish, balance, and optimize the game, but at least all of the tech, all of the levels, etc, are in the game and working (from what I understand lol) - so it's a question of, "how long could that possibly take? a year? better double it to be safe lol" At least I know it will release in a highly polished, highly optimized state, unlike many games in the recent past *cough cough*, so I personally don't mind waiting for it to reach that state.
just to add a bit the trailer you see here is an actual ingame footage so its not pre-rendered CGI, also just abit of lore, the first scene where you see a fleet of battle ships, that was the Battle of Vega II ( thus you see on screen it was took place on Vega system), and it was fought on year 2945 between the United Empire of Earth (UEE) and the Vanduul. It was sparked when a large Vanduul Clan led by a Kingship jumped to the Vega system and attacked the planet Aremis (Vega II). After a desperate battle against overwhelming forces, the United Empire of Earth Navy's (UEEN) 2nd Fleet commanded by Admiral Ernst Bishop ( played by actor Gary Oldman) managed to turn the tide with the destruction of the kingship that drove the Vanduul survivors out of the system. The attack elevated concern about the Vanduul threat and led to a military action to reclaim Human systems lost to the Vanduul. This marked the first time in history that Human forces destroyed a Vanduul Kingship. If you play SC the timeline will be after the story of SQ42, so SQ42 is like a prequel. Vanduul is the alien race that you see at the end of the video ( those 3 tall looking aliens with spear like guns)
I first backed during the initial kickstarter. They wanted to push the pc platform further. I would say they've, more or less, done what they said they would. I believed in that vision. I held the line.
Saw you comment on my comment on your last video:) that you wanted to try it in the freefly. Just a warning, in freefly the game is 1000x time more buggy because of server performance. Also, you first 20h are going to be pain it’s certain. But the community is very helpful so just ask question in general chat.
What I mean by suffering is not that the game is bad, but that there is so much detail to master that you won’t know what to do. It’s a quality on the long therm but it’s hard when you start. (Definitely watch some tips and tricks videos)
@@kilamir Got it chief. I'll try mess around with none of that first since the feeling of discovering things naturally are awesome. But if I find myself lost. I'm definitely firing up some tutorial videos 👍
Optimistic: one year until some kind of "beta" Realistic: two to three years Pesimistic (something is going realy wrong and has to be reiterated): five yearsreiterated
@@tacticaltaco8418 you say that, just watch CIG screw something up. I think 2 years is realistic, with 2024 Christmas release being the earliest I can see it happening
@@Admiral_Grufus what have they screwed up? It's a alpha game I realized that before I purchased it. I'm not expecting a polished game I'm expecting bugs while they iron out the tech
@@tacticaltaco8418 CIG is awful at meeting any sort of deadline, whether it’s one they set or one the community thinks/dreams up. 2024 is possible, I just find it unlikely. Like Ray’s Guide said, there’s a chance (and knowing SC, it’s a high one) that something pops up during polishing that screws up something vital. Tl;dr CIG is bad at deadlines and something will happen to screw up any timeline anyone puts forth.
LOL, the Manchester reaction is priceless. It will release, the lore, the language, and more has been written. I have held the line since 2016, and this game will be crazy huge. I have held the line since 2016.
The AI is going to be very challenging in this. Already in Star Citizen when you get a server with few people on the AI is deadly and intelligent. They hunt for you in packs with point guard and the ones behind covering the fireing arcs. I have seen them search my ship after I landed and was hiding behind a wall waiting for my friends to come and help me!!!
And every ship in the UEE 2nd Fleet you saw in the beginning players will be able to command pilot and fully crew. The RSI Bengal, the biggest carrier however will be a contention zone. There's only going be a handful if even that and they will never despawn and can't be insured or docked at a hangar, so Orgs will have to battle to run a Bengal in their fleet (for the online part Star Citizen)
Also I don't know if it'll be like this in Squadron 42, but in Star Citizen the more you heal the higher your blood drug level gets and you can actually blackout from it being too high. You can also suffer Tier 3 (Not serious) to Tier 1 (Most Serious) injuries to your legs, arms, chest and head which give you different side affects, and they have different types of medpens to alleviate symptoms given by Tier 3 to 1 injuries until you can get to a medbed
i'm pretty sure the base game mechanics will be the same, with the exception of some things that only really work in one of them. but the basics like FPS movement, shooting, healing, ship flight, etc. will be the same across both games@@ThatKoreanGamer-r5m
SQ42 is going to comprise 4 'chapters' overall. IIRC all the acting/performance mocap has been completed for all the chapters, so the whole campaign/story is complete. How good will it really be? For clues we can look back to Chris Roberts 1990 space combat game "Wing Commander" which during development was called "Squadron". WC won Computer Gaming World's 'Game of the Year' title, both for being a) exciting to play, b) having a compelling story, and c) raising the bar for technical achievement, design and story for the gaming industry. SQ42 is essentially WC with updated tech...EXCEPT its not just 'WC in 3D/1080p'. WC1 and WC2 were much the same in tech and graphics, but the story was continued and expanded. WC3, 4 and 'Prophecy' used live action mixed with sets and CGI for cut scenes (Mark Hamill, Malcom McDowell, Tom Wilson and John Rhys Davies being the most notable actors in these) and graphics went 3D of course. Over the 5 WC games the player character variously bonded and or challenged other characters ) all of whom had a backstory/distinct personality. There were arguments, moral choices, sacrifices and deaths, and betrayals. There were combat missions, escort missions, rescue missions on planets, infiltration missions, repair missions, love interests, and deaths that resulted from decisions and /or the skills of the player. WC I guess went from being an RPG to an interactive space-opera movie, with the player as an imperfect hero. The Wing Commander series was the most thrilling and engaging PC game I ever played (COD 1 and 2, and the Tomb Raider series, including TR 2013 are close, maybe equal for me.) Chris Roberts has a long history of programming skills, story-telling, development and even movie production, and he's pretty much always not just made good/great games, but he's also often innovated on the technology side. I have no reason to believe SQ42 is going to be 'meh'.
@@Admiral_Grufus Mass Effect Series is one my favorites of all times. Those were around 30 hours but the content was so good that it felt a lot longer than that as I enjoyed each and every moment. I'm hoping we'll see something similar with Squadron 42. Would love if they gave us more juice as far as play time goes but not if it's going to compromise the experience!
OG backer holding the line. The Wing Commander series was my fav as a kid and why I tossed money at this on blind faith when I heard about it. Chris Roberts has never made target deadlines on time ....ever.... but he knows the formula to making good action story games with attention to immersive detail and pushing tech to the limits. $600M took 5 ppl in a garage with nothing to building up a software studio, a game engine, starting an MMO, a multiplayer arena service, and a single player game in SQ42 all at the same time. Money well spent imo even with the fuckups along the way. Next Citcon/IAE is the soonest we could possibly see SQ but who knows. In AAA games polish is a 1-2 year process on average. They did start polish in the spring of this year according to the monthly reports and likely provided what we saw in this vid to show the new stuff. They said it would be ~50/50 flight and FPS with social stories involving the cast throughout it all. CR games do have a formula to them so if you like classic scifi hero origin stories and tropes or liked Wing Commander/Freelancer you will probably enjoy it. The bald guy is Mark Strong from Sherlock Holmes and The Kingsman movies iirc. Andy Serkis (LOTR Golem) plays the aliens. Liam Cunningham (GOT) is your first ship's captain after graduating flight school as a new rookie pilot assigned to the Old Man's wing at the beginning of the player story. Mark Hamil and John Rhys Davies were in the original Wing Commander series which helped start the trend of getting actors into games with choose your adventure live acted scene story telling in the 1980s. Seeing them together again is nostalgic af and is exactly the formula I was hoping for that they teased in the vertical slice game play demo in 2016. All those locations in the new preview are re-dos of the vertical slice demo of chapter 2 as the before shots in this vid and look really good so far. Hopefully they get it out in the next year and finally make the haters eat salt.
Oh that's so cool that Hamill was in the OG Wing Commander. I swear he never misses lol - Thanks for the awesome comment btw. Sadly, I probably still won't recall most of the actors names but maybe if I hear/see them 10 more times I'll manage hahah
As an early backer from Kickstarter back in 2014 I have no problem waiting even longer for SQ42 and Star Citizen. Because you sure as heck will never get this kind of dedication to a game from a AAA publisher. And this is why so many people back and support both these games. The gaming Industry as a whole has already failed us this will hopefully set the example for how games should be made. Balder's Gate 3 is already a good example.
Actually there's is g force in the game If you go back to the part after the boat section, you can see the player's vision going black and white or hear hyperventilating. The launch catapult thing is done irl with fighter jets, except we don't levitate
the game has a purpose, if you want story driven campaign, SQ42 is the one and its specifically for single player ( you will learn more about the sc lore), SC on the other hand is the sandbox multiplayer in the persistent universe ( PU), where there are some missions you can take but because it is sandbox, you can pretty much do anything you want, like I was with several friends the other day and we just did some activities which maybe bit unusual for normal players who prefer scripted storyline like those games Bethesda, but it was quite fun for us, we were at one time flying on atmosphere in Daymar and just try to jump from our ship in space either just with spacesuit we have, or jumping off with ground vehicle lol....kinda silly i know but its fun. Every now and then there will be global event that any players can participate with good rewards , like Jump town ( which is leaning more into pvp) or Siege of Orison ( pve focusing on FPS - first person shooter) and Xenothreat and so on. You can pretty much play SC in any role you like, be a pirate and just interdict cargo ships and steal their loot ( this can be pvp or pve), or if you like to be space trucker and hauling many cargos for profits, you can do that too, or be miners and sell your mined resources, or you like to do some medical, rescuing injured player on the verse, or just wanna be explorer, and go around and so on. or just go in game and have a chill and do salvaging out in space lol , I think once server meshing is fully implemented, the server will be more stable
I dunno if anyone has pointed this out .. when you were speculating about the players character .. the part of the video when they're reading the mail and it keeps changing faces is a reference to the character creation. The Capital ships' captains are NPCs - you play as a grunt in the squadron flying single seater fighters and doing missions on the ground.
a polish phase can take a year (like zelda BOTW) personally I'm pretty confident in that time frame, I'm may be too optimistic but I think it is possible to have a release date around may or june, but still worth case: the game will be out in 2 years
So I originally backed the game in 2012, and have been following the development closely. I think there is a real chance of a beta test for SQ42 sometime next year (2024). Assuming that the game is actually feature complete, and the game simply needs optimization / polish passes in places, I think that’s realistic. Also, in terms of hardware, I’m currently running StarCitizen Multiplayer on an old AMD system with a 1080ti, and I typically get ok framerates.
Yeah don't need to stress on a Gpu, a 1060 can run the game fine. That said (SSD required) Ram and CPU become more important than the gpu on this game.
For the multilayer they had to develop Object Container Streaming technology to run without loading screens. They had to develop server meshing (coming soon) seamlessly moving through servers, interacting with neighbouring servers (showcased at citizen on) Two of the main tech achievements they have made for this game which allow it to do that other games can't do without loading screens. Server meshing was said to be impossible in the way they need it, they made it possible.
this game history starts in 1990 with Wing Commander. And ended in 2003 with Freelancer. in wing commander kilrathi saga Chris was already ahead in his time using actors. But Freelancer was a taste of much more freedom and gave direction to what now will be Star citizen.
I have been backing this since 2012 when it was just a concept and had my doubts. But someone made a very good point that they stated, established devs are always pushed to unrealistic deadlines, these guys set their own and just say it’ll be ready when it’s ready. It’s a dreamers project and they want it to be perfect. Their budget hasn’t been assigned by a company it has been handed over by players who want to see it made.
I no joke backed when I was an undergrad in college. I’m now halfway through my career and starting to think about retirement. Maybe star citizen will be my retirement hobby?
What I think a lot of people fail to realize is 500 million and 10 years development is actually not that bad. That's GTA 5, but rockstar already had a full studio. On top of that, CIG is making TWO games in that budget and time on a scale and level of detail no Triple A devolper would even attempt.
Squadron 42 is the most detailed massive game ever made, it will set new standards in gaming. It will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. It is not constructed to be like other action games, you create a character and live the life of that character during a time of war. There are hundreds of characters in the game. It is not simply a 'do mission' go back to ship, choose next mission. Everything happens in the game according to a timeline, and you choose how to go about achieving the objectives you have been given. You will have time off duty to engage in a range of activities and visit many places. It is an open world free roam experience, just like the Star Citizen open world. You will have to use your intelligence, it is not simply a 'go kill bad guys' type game. You'll have to make choices, difficult choices, you make relationships with the characters that affect your overall experience of the whole game universe. There is a mystery to solve. Squadron 42 takes place in the same universe as Star Citizen only it's in the recent past. The character you create will be the character you can take into the Star Citizen game when you retire from the military, all your personal history logs and possessions go with you. The choices you make in Squadron 42 will affect how the NPC's treat you in Star Citizen. You will go to some of the same places and meet some of the same people / factions in both games. The Star Citizen AI NPC's will know who you are (that famous pilot from the war), some don't like the UEE especially the military, some will think you're the hero.
SQ42 will be released the question is when will they be done with polish and optimization of the game. I am still on the fence between 12 month or 24 month. All depends on grafics and performance optimization in the end. Someone said during those weeks sionce CitizenCon it will take longer the optimists think and it will be shorter than pessimist think. Pessimist is longer than 2 years and optimists say next year...
The actors came in when the game achieved about 40 mill USD, so not likely they got a huge part of the 600 mill. But who knows what their deal was, and Henry Cavil is also in it ;) it was his voice in one of the ships at the beginning :) And about the cinematics, they are made to be cut mid sentence and still flow without interuption if you the player chose to. The reason why he didnt give a official estimate is because they missed previous deadlines, as your impression about Star Citizen reveal, and many many others :) But the usual Polish Phase time for games, is 1-2 Years, so I expect two years :) As I believe they will not release a broken/buggy game. They come to far, to do that mistake!
"they are made to be cut mid sentence and still flow without interuption if you the player chose to" that immediately brings Fallout 4 to mind for me but ofc this game will be a lot better presentation wise lol
Im following it since 2014 and playing from time to time since 2018 .. My estimate is release in chapters with 1st chapter late 2024 , hopefully not in buggy state
I might be too optimistic but I believe they will launch for xmas 2024 and they'll announce it at Citizen on in October. Polish shouldn't take more than a year. What's cool too is now that story mode is feature complete, alot of those devs will be able to work on the MMORPG part Star Citizen
Nah, polish will probably take 2 years. It’s something they don’t want to rush because after this trailer, this game can’t be mediocre. Starfield’s polish took one year and the polish was more like sandpaper.
Okay so none of us who are big star citizen supporters are going to hide the fact that Chris Roberts has a lawn and storied history of giving us a release date and not meeting it. That is almost a meme at this point. However since the release of the held the line trailer. Many of us in the community now understand why star citizen has seen so little activity on its updates and features. CIG put everything they had into the squad and 42 single player campaign. And honestly the amount of patches and features coming to the persistent universe now have escalated to levels on scene since the games First iteration of the office test bed. We are seeing rapid drops in patches one after the other after the other. My guess would be now that squatter 42 is feature complete and they're working on the Polish and optimization. They're moving everyone over to the persistent universe to finally finish it
If everything goes well yes (rumors says internal release date is christmas 2024). But polish phase can be a rocky road. I think we'll have a release date at the next citcon.
Love how everyone assumes you can just keep injecting meds and heal and there no issues. Then you try it in game and you can barely see because of the trauma to your face and can barely control yourself because of drug intoxication. Even just one round to you can be devestating.
It's more realistic than most shooters, with different tiers of injuries for each body part, different drugs you can administer for different effects, damage to vision or hearing from head injuries, different effects from blood drug levels. You can even lose control over your body from drugging or drinking too much. I hear you can OD too but I don't remember experiencing it myself. Or at least I assume the game will have all that, because the MMO already does and the single player you are watching is ahead but not playable by the public yet.
This will definitely get released, they're doing these games with passion, believe you me for someone that has followed this since the beginning, the people behind the company are really wholesome people that just want to make a F*ing great game. We saw the CEO Chris Roberts *cry* on stage at CitizenCon last month, and communication between the comunity and the company is great and constant. There's no scam here, if there's any company out there than you can be sure is not constantly lying to our faces, it's CIG. :D *SQ42 out in less than 2 years*
C.I.G. gets such a bad rep for delays, but it's a consequence of how they started out as well as how most other games are developed.
Wish I could like this post 1000x, because it is just the way that I think and it is sad that most people don't realize this truth.

Then again, for better or worse, if they don't promote in the way they are, CIG probably won't get those budget, especially with no publishers and investors. As much as development time is important, same goes for money to feed the employees.
Honestly, most games wouldn't even announce their existence until probably about where Squadron 42 is currently at in development...

The game is in ALPHA right now, so temper your expectations that update 4.0 has not hit.
Squadron 42 has quite a few big name actors on the cast.
Gary Oldman - Admiral Ernst Bishop, he had that big "hold the line" speech. (Admiral of the 2nd fleet and commander of the UEES Retribution, the only Retribution class super dreadnaught, and the largest human ship in lore, designed specifically to fight Vanduul Kingships)
Mark Hamill - Lt.
(the commander of the UEES Krugiri, a Bengal class carrier, and a member of the 2nd fleet)
John Rhys-Davies - Randall Graves, he appears briefly at 15:43. (Chief of security aboard the Archon Base space station and a UEE Navy veteran)
Liam Cunningham - Captain Noah White, he appears at 17:18, one of the people you recognized (commander of the UEES Stanton, an Idris class frigate, and a member of the 2nd fleet, as well as the ship the player character and Mark Hamill's character are stationed on)
Gillian Anderson - Captain Rachael MacLaren, the captain the player character talks to in the beginning. (commander of the UEES gauntlet, which is a Javelin class destroyer, and a member of the 2nd fleet. she is also the daughter of Admiral Bishop)
Henry Cavill - Ryan Enright, he doesn't show up in this trailer much, but I'm pretty sure that's him in the fighter in the opening shot (pilot in the 2nd fleet, not much is known about the character yet) he's actually the one who reached out to CIG asking to be in it, and (at least according to rumor) even offered to do it for free because he didn't want to take money away from development.
Andy Serkis - Thul'Oquray (a member of the Vanduul, an alien race that are the main antagonists of the game. he doesn't show up in the trailer, though you can see other vanduul at the very end.)
this universe has a LOT of lore, there are a lot of good videos about it on youtube if you wanna go down that rabbit hole
Oh man thanks for this awesome comment. I hopefully will no longer call Mark Strong "Bald Guy" lol
Their convo was between the captain of the ship and a low ranking person. However, they knew they were most likely going to be dead soon so that's why the convo is so mellow and informal.
In the email, they mention a skirmish with a clan of Vanduul, and the disappointment of facing them again.
Yeah, they where all scared and expecting to most likely die.
Haven being beaten by the Vanduuls before then.
@@Luredreier Daaamn, that's tough

Not only that, but choosing CryEngine, an engine with netcode so bad it could be a standup comedy routine, wasn't ideal for what they wanted to do.
Star citizen was a project by 13 people in 2012 they were 700 in 2018 and now they are over 1200
In 2013 they were building their studios from scratch now they have 5 big studios around the globe
The developpement really began in 2014/2015 (where they were 160 ish btw)
And we know them since the begining of the project not even the developement that's why to us they seems to be in developpement for too long
But in reality games like RDR2 with 2000 devs since the start were in developement for 8 Years
Same with Cyberpunk which we all know how it was at release.
And don't forget CIG are developping 2 games One MMO and one AAA + their own Engine
So to me they aren't slow at all in fact they are pretty fast.
Loool Andromerda has me☠ - Thx for the brief history of the game. Also enjoyed reading a perspective of a dev!
5:23 The reason for the somber mood, in short, is that they're both expecting to die because of where they are currently patrolling. The whole fleet is prepping for an imminent attack from an enemy that they know they have very little chance of surviving against. The scene is of the character's trying to calm their nerves.
That or it's just after the attack on Vega.
13:28 no there's zero cgi in this game it's all in game. The mocap is for the character movements. It's done the same way the last of us did their mocap all in game renders.
Yeah, had a brainfart there when I said CGI. Motion capture is what I indented to say. Ty for correcting that 😄
Held the line strikes close to heart. For me it's been 7 years and close to 10k put into a dream game
This year seeing Server Meshing become a reality is a huge relief as nobody even knew if it was possible, and without it Star Citizen's vision wouldn't be possible
On top of that Squadron 42 looks fantastic
Now I'm just chilling out, watching reaction videos like yours and enjoying the vibe. Thanks for your great content and hope to see you in the verse!
Thanks man, likewise!
6:46 Optimization is usually the last thing in the dev cycle of a game, after polish. So dont mind the bad frames for now
I think something worth noting is that SQ42 is in the same universe as Star Citizen but doesn't follow the same exact ambitions of SC's "everything game". I'd expect you'll have a good amount of liberty navigating the world, but it's still gonna be a somewhat linear, mission based story.
Between SQ42 and SC, SC is closer to Starfield, but honestly, all 3 games are quite different from each other, despite them all being space games.
Which is something I love the sound of. I believe keeping this experience on a linear focus will pay off in a huge way in the end.
Appreciate the comment and the welcome 🤠
Just a note. This presentation is not a trailer, but describing the features for the single player campaign to the backers. Pretty much describing the milestone that is feature complete.
Mark Strong is the bald guy. Henry Cavil has a bit somewhere as well and on the 17th their is a free fly
toss a coin to your spacer
I will be there; possibly lost in space and very scared.. But I'll be there!
All of the backers of this game are tired of empty promises by all the so called triple A studios out there making pure garbage
year after year, rushed, buggy cash grab pieces of garbage.
There is also Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, Gillian (Scully) Anderson among many other celebrities besides Superman also known as Henry Cavil :p
bro wtf that Chinese impersonation is actually legible.
我尽力了
here another thing, the game has FOIP, Face Over IP, If you set it up wit your web camera Your avatar's face moves withyours and mouth and eyes. If replicates your own face movements. It can be tricky to get to work right
it also has Tobii eye tracker, many pvper dog fighter pilots use it in flight combat , its pretty cool tech
the trick to getting the best out of FOIP is a high fps camera (60 fps or greater), zoomed in on your face (so it can better pick up the details), enough good lighting for the camera to distinguish your facial features and a trimmed beard that shows your lips and glasses that do not interfere with your eyebrow and eye movements. then you just need to keybind the re-calibration feature to do it when the tracking breaks.
Details like this is what really makes this game stand out for me!
The Intro remembers me about Space 2063 above and Beyond ...
That hold the line quote is for those who’ve stuck through the rough development of both of the games.
Now: I held the line
When sq42 releases: My life support held the line
hahahah good one
That'd be sick! Lots of people are predicting it will come out in the next 2 years. Let's see what happens.
@billywashere6965 They knew what they were doing.😖 But it speaks volumes on how good the game looks lol
if you don't like space battles... you might be in the wrong house lol

Looks incredible!
Yo. If they pull this off this will change the whole industry.
Those are not cutscenes, they‘re just fancy detached cameras. Everything you saw is in game footage.
eyooo so like, in-game cutscenes would be the correct term?
@@KeroValentineyes. That is correct. The game should come out next Christmas BTW.

Most of which is player driven)
Star Engine: (The other video your reacted to was a showcase of this) The backbone of both games.
All being developed simultaneously.
Squadron 42 is now in the "polish" phase (feature complete as stated in this video) which means more focus can be put onto Star Citizen. The game engine itself is also pretty much complete.
lol just finished watching your starengine reaction and recomended you watch this but you already have :)
Cutscenes are all in engine during gameplay not pre-rendered. we are supposed to even have the ability to disengage the cinematic camera and play during some cutscene dialogue much like in half-life2 though it sounds like there will be knock on effects with our NPC relationships if we're disrespectful etc.
Thanks for the awesome info!
o7 thanks for your research sir

I can’t believe it’s finally almost here I envy those who didn’t wait 10 years but I also envy people who have just discovered the masterpieces that are SQ42 and SC
lmao I got duped with the Manchester shot too - thanks for reacting to this video too!
Gameplay footage is sometimes is stuttery bc it's still not optimized, bc they're showing off how it actually is right now.
I think it genuinely could get released within a year, but for the sake of safety, I'm guessing within two years. They still need to tweak, polish, balance, and optimize the game, but at least all of the tech, all of the levels, etc, are in the game and working (from what I understand lol) - so it's a question of, "how long could that possibly take? a year? better double it to be safe lol"
At least I know it will release in a highly polished, highly optimized state, unlike many games in the recent past *cough cough*, so I personally don't mind waiting for it to reach that state.
just to add a bit the trailer you see here is an actual ingame footage so its not pre-rendered CGI, also just abit of lore, the first scene where you see a fleet of battle ships, that was the Battle of Vega II ( thus you see on screen it was took place on Vega system), and it was fought on year 2945 between the United Empire of Earth (UEE) and the Vanduul.

Ah, I'll temper my expectations according to what you say then. Let's see what I get myself into lol

I gotta get a bunch of reps in this coming November 17 then.. lol
@@kaejuka6249 I feel like Squadron 42 will be less on the hardcore side tho, just to get the pacing right.
I have no reason to believe SQ42 is going to be 'meh'.
it's a trilogy (SQ42), so 3 games, which should be roughly 20 hours of game play each
@@Admiral_Grufus Mass Effect Series is one my favorites of all times. Those were around 30 hours but the content was so good that it felt a lot longer than that as I enjoyed each and every moment. I'm hoping we'll see something similar with Squadron 42. Would love if they gave us more juice as far as play time goes but not if it's going to compromise the experience!
@@Admiral_Grufus thanks for the chapter correction.
Yeah we can't nit pick frames or animations because they specifically said they are now BEGINING the polish phase not finishing it.
I like how they openly show it, instead of faking Ubisoft style.
Actually there's is g force in the game
If you go back to the part after the boat section, you can see the player's vision going black and white or hear hyperventilating.
The Capital ships' captains are NPCs - you play as a grunt in the squadron flying single seater fighters and doing missions on the ground.
a polish phase can take a year (like zelda BOTW) personally I'm pretty confident in that time frame, I'm may be too optimistic but I think it is possible to have a release date around may or june, but still worth case: the game will be out in 2 years
The bald dude is Mark Strong. And we also have Sir John Rhys-Davies (Gimli). And Andy Serkis (Gollum, Kong) who plays the aliens.
You will be able to switch inbetween the sequences. You can leave it and have the look around as you also may return into the sequence itself.
Don't know if you have tried SC fps gameplay, it is very solid but the server is janky as hell, the guns feel GREAT tho
Great video! I’d love to see you watch some of the other citizencon panels! Base building is a great one.
Your Thumbnail Shots looks Awesome
Thanks! I try my best 😄
He stopped it too early and missed the aliens!
Never stop a youtube trailer until the very end! There are yet people unborn who know this! LOL
Oh noo, I did see the aliens in the trailer actually but was there a tease at the very end of more?
I no joke backed when I was an undergrad in college. I’m now halfway through my career and starting to think about retirement. Maybe star citizen will be my retirement hobby?
ahahah well, if it ends up being great, at least you won't lack things to do post retirement
What I think a lot of people fail to realize is 500 million and 10 years development is actually not that bad. That's GTA 5, but rockstar already had a full studio. On top of that, CIG is making TWO games in that budget and time on a scale and level of detail no Triple A devolper would even attempt.
We will have actual space colonies on another world before this game is released
The Star Citizen part is the Alpha build, and what you've watched is the Single Player Game Build.
good things taking long times :)
the big Ting, like mY HULL C?
thats pretty big
SQ42 will be released the question is when will they be done with polish and optimization of the game. I am still on the fence between 12 month or 24 month. All depends on grafics and performance optimization in the end. Someone said during those weeks sionce CitizenCon it will take longer the optimists think and it will be shorter than pessimist think. Pessimist is longer than 2 years and optimists say next year...
The actors came in when the game achieved about 40 mill USD, so not likely they got a huge part of the 600 mill. But who knows what their deal was, and Henry Cavil is also in it ;) it was his voice in one of the ships at the beginning :)
And about the cinematics, they are made to be cut mid sentence and still flow without interuption if you the player chose to.
The reason why he didnt give a official estimate is because they missed previous deadlines, as your impression about Star Citizen reveal, and many many others :)
But the usual Polish Phase time for games, is 1-2 Years, so I expect two years :) As I believe they will not release a broken/buggy game. They come to far, to do that mistake!
"they are made to be cut mid sentence and still flow without interuption if you the player chose to" that immediately brings Fallout 4 to mind for me but ofc this game will be a lot better presentation wise lol
17:25 Dam Rhona Natasha Mitra looks gorgeous as a toon as well.
They're moving everyone over to the persistent universe to finally finish it
SQ 42 will be Live next fall. !00% fact! - mark my words, oh ye doubters!!
I held the line. I'm still holding the line lol
for information sq 42 entrer this month on the second phase of polish . a release possible end of 2024. really
I have a pretty good feel it will come out in 2024
If everything goes well yes (rumors says internal release date is christmas 2024). But polish phase can be a rocky road. I think we'll have a release date at the next citcon.
The bald dude is Mark Strong
i was expecting you to get bamboozled by the manchester part. i mean why would they call it Sol System 😅😂
and bamboozled I did get.. 😆😆
Love how everyone assumes you can just keep injecting meds and heal and there no issues. Then you try it in game and you can barely see because of the trauma to your face and can barely control yourself because of drug intoxication. Even just one round to you can be devestating.
I feel like 2025 will be the release of SQ42.
Hell yeah. Cant wait for Squadron 42. Hard bet release date by early 2025
🤞🤞
22:50 bald guy is Mark Strong.
You don't remember ODing? Damn bro....
Sometime in 2024 it will be released yes.
*SQ42 out in less than 2 years*
