These guys are slowly reclaiming their old territory back in my state (Crappie and Sunfish stocking in a lot of places out competed them) so I’ve been looking for a recipe. Looks great
You should check out some of my “Redfin Pickerel” content on the channel. If you are not familiar they are the smaller cousin to the chain pickerel that most people forget about. ua-cam.com/video/j8SnDlALHq8/v-deo.html
You ever fished Redfin pike? The smaller cousin of Jack! Much smaller but a better tasting fish imo. I’ve got several Redfin fishing videos on the channel.
I’ve caught a few chain pickerel in my life. Can’t remember eating them but I do remember walking the creek with a live minnow and watching them shred minnows in half. Not a very common thing in freshwater lol
Tman Bricks very similar. I’ve eaten trout on a few occasions. If anything I would say the pickerel is a little better, the meat is former than the trout I’ve eaten.
I tried these despite the negative rumours. This fish is very slimy and after you scale and de-bone them, put them in whatever marinade and flavor you want but you have to wash them with salt and let it sit for about an hour before you start flavoring.
They taste like the waterbody that they live in, so if you do try to eat these and prep them, you want to eat them from clean bodied water systems just like any other fish. You don't want the ones in marshlands, mud, and algae covers. They have great meat, prep and fish them right and they're perfect.
Great Video !!Thank you for sharing the recipe !! All the very best !!

Douglas Ga approved! Yall keep it up.
I love catching jack. They bite in the heat of the day when nothing else will. Used to fish Brier Creek in Screven County, Georgia when I was a kid.

We'd catch some "by accident" from time to time. Usually threw them back.

Jack is one of my favorite fish to ear

It was good, although a little boney. I’ve heard the red-fin are even better.
Best fish in the state of Georgia
You Know, I have been hearing that a lot! Maybe I should target them more often.
Advice on targeting, rigs, setup ? Hoooked 2 today on minnows fishing for crappie .
@@janardobrown995 I don't know if it's legal or not but let's just say goldfish might be a good bait allegedly
Find and try a recipe for pickled pike. Bones dissolve in the pickle. Tasty snack

Best tasting fresh water fish there is to me.

That is very true! I plan on targeting them a few times this year!
Slime dart! Never knew people ate these. I just huck em back
They taste pretty good…but bony as all get out!
@@G2GO_outdoors I’m always so nervous to eat freshwater fish up here in NH. Maybe I’ll start with a bluegill haha
They are boney but damn good!
That they are. I’ve heard the red fin pike are even better
We call em toothpicks.
Never heard that one before. I will have to keep that one in my archive for a future video!
In 1708 John Lawson caught 300 chain pickerel in his fish trap near the coast of South Carolina.
Interesting Fact!
In 2019 I caught my first pickerel with a limp dick. This is the only way I fish for them now.
My one lake is completely ran over by picks imma start eating them
They can be aggravating but cooked right, they are pretty good
You can eat through the bones like that
Yeah, it’s about the best (only) way I’ll eat em!
Yessir fried good and thrown on a bun mmmmm!
That’s a pile lol
UHG YOU LEAVE THE SKIN ON YUCK!!
SO WHY DO YOU NEED TO SCALE THEM IF YOUR GOING TO FILLET THEM?? MAKES NO SENSE.
Because I still left the skin on
Honestly I can’t take anyone seriously that’s wearing a “man-bun”. SMH
I definitely understand!
