    Critical bit. CP4 REQUIRES fuel with NO AIR for faultless lubrication of the pump. MUST completely purge all the air out of the fuel system before starting. Turn on like you did, but wait about 30 seconds for the system to stop pumping and repeat the prime for the full 30 sec each time. Cycle at least 4 times. Patience purging protects against VERY EXPENSIVE failures of the HPFP. Air in the fuel with a CP4 starts drive cam / roller bearing wear, the main failure mode for the CP4.2. Do the purge well, to protect the pump.

    Nice video...great job! NOTE: The fuel will stop draining. It just takes a while. I have changed my filters 5X (every 10k miles). I use the same process each time...no issues. Here is the process I use on my 2017 Titan XD Pro4X: 1. Disconnect the NEG battery terminals on both batteries. 2. Disconnect H2O sensor on filter housing #1 (underside of truck). 3. Drain the diesel fuel COMPLETELY. 4. Replace #1 filter & O-Ring seal, tighten filter housing, then replace H2O sensor. 5. Replace #2 filter & O-Ring seal then tighten filter housing. 6. Replace NEG battery terminals on both batteries. 7. CRITICAL: Prime the fuel system AT LEAST 5X (30 sec each time you prime) before attempting to start the vehicle. Prime the fuel system by pushing the START BUTTON 2X without placing your foot on the brake. You will hear the system go through the priming process. The priming process requires about 30-seconds each time you conduct the process. Do this AT LEAST 5X. The fuel system is very sensitive to air intrusion. The fuel pump is $1,900 and the injectors are $950 each. Take your time and do the maintenance the right way and the fuel system will work properly for a very long time. Take short cuts and get ready to break out that credit card!

    I change my own filters on my semi truck and one thing I do that I didn't see you do here is filling the flutters/ housing with clean fuel. The one on the frame rail should be easy, insert the filter in the housing then fill it up at least mostly full before installing it, not sure it would work so well on the one on the engine bay because as you put the filter in you risk having spillage. We do this with semi tricks so there's less air in the fuel system making it easier to prime. Good video.

      Big trucks usually run on mechanical pumps so you need to fill them, these have electrical pumps, turn key on and the system will fill itself , do it several times and it will start no problem

    I owned a 6.4 and the process was pretty similar although I would change one filter at a time starting it in between to make sure no air got in the system. Just a precaution that saves headache and problems.

      This is the method I’ve heard. One filter then prime process. Then 2nd filter and prime process again.

    I’ve used Wix filters for my fuel and oil filters for about 60k miles now. Seems to work good. About the same price. Only use them because Nissan seems to never have anything in stock for the 5.0 Cummins.

    You may want to use white lithium grease on your filters so they don't stick to the housing when you take them off on your next service. Believe me I learned the hard way. It also says it on your owner manual. I ended up breaking my lower filter in the priming pump stem cause it wouldn't come off. I thought just using diesel to lubricate it was going to be good enough.

    How much fuel should you expect to drain from the lower fuel filter and what do you do with the drainage?

    • @NotATechShow
      @NotATechShow  2 роки тому

      it will drain indefinitly sometimes, it starts syphoning from the tank. let it drip for a few minutes into a catch can. you should be able to dispose of it at your locate autoparts store if they have a hazardous waste bin.

      Still runs fine. 2016 with 67K miles on it. Only had 1 problem with the Turbo actuator (common). Its a good truck, just be mindful of how much diesel parts cost. If anything does break, its not cheap. With that in mind, i love the truck. It has been my favorite vehicle i have ever owned!

      blow by with any diesel but not that common with these. most common issues are turbo actuator and emissions components issues. its tough to know if it will be a problem just by looking at it. just make sure that the truck that you are looking at was well maintained with fluids and filter changes.

    I can tell you from experience that your priming procedure is not even close to the right way, it has to prime for 30 seconds at least twice. I have to do mine at least 4 times for it to remove all of the air. When I did it your way it was 3 hours trying to bleed the air out of it. When I do mine I listen for all of the air to get out before I start it. Other than that misinformation it is a good video

    • @NotATechShow
      @NotATechShow  2 роки тому +1

      non XD means it has the V8 gas motor. gasoline powered vehicles typicall have a fuel filter/screen on the fuel pump, which is in the tank. this is the case for non XD. dont worry though, changing the fuel filter in the tank is not a regiular maintentance item. your fuel pump will likely fail before that screen ever needs to be replaced. you also cant buy that filter without buying the fuel pump anyway. if you are having a fuel problem, it could be related to the pump or fuel system in general
