This classic song was made for improvising, and boy, could Phil do it justice. Wonderful.

One of the greatest solos of all time. So far past the Saxophone just pure imagination and a history of saxophone playing all in one solo. I miss you so much my man!!

Here I hear him conversing with so many of the greatest saxophone players of the past. What a master of the alto saxophone he was.

His time was so great. He had so many options for sitting back or pushing a phrase. Beautiful.

Possibly controversial but nonetheless true to Mr. Benny Carter. To quote the great Benny Carter when speaking of Phil Woods, "Phil is the cat alto players should aspire to play like more than Charlie Parker"

Sorry, but not for me. Too many quotes and pyrotechnics at the beginning, and the Coleman Hawkins impersonation is a bit unnecessary. The solo is great in the second half in my opinion, some awesome moments there.

Sorry Charlie, you have committed gross error in your paragraph and should be punished by confining you to listening to Dave Koz!

@@charlierumoldboi3939 Quite evocative of the big fat "dirty" sound of Big Ben on tenor. More than an impersonation I think it may have been some kind of hommage to Ben... maybe passed away in those days when this recording was made ? Just guessing.
