Hi, I’m pretty new to loom knitting, but I love it, and I’m going to be making toy balls for both my two kitties and my friend’s. It looks like I’ll be able to follow along with your directions to shape the balls (though I might need to slow down the playback slightly on some parts). I will use an U-Wrap stitch on the knit portions other than an E-Wrap like you did (to get a tighter gauge as I don’t want any stuffing showing). But otherwise, I plan to use your method. I’m very glad to run across your video as I would have just made a little tube on my 12-peg bloom loom and drawstring gathered it on both ends (and after stuffing it, maybe roll it in catnip 😻). But I think your way of making a ball will give a neater result. As I’ve only done a little subtle shaping in a crown of one fitted hat, I really look forward to learning this. And afterwards, maybe I’ll feel brave enough to try some short-row heels and make my first pair of socks! ☺🧦💛

Any tips on scaling this up to make a much larger ball on a larger loom with longer rows? My nephew requested one. I bought a much fatter yarn and I want to use the largest of my round looms, but I don’t think doing the same number of stitches will make it large enough.

is it possible to use a different color to make a smaller circle in the middle of the ball? so it basically look something like an eyeball?

OK another post. I loved this pattern.
I did get the top to close when I redid it.
But it still is football shape and I’m
wondering if I need more sections.
    I could use some help.
Wish I could post a picture.

what a great pattern! I need a very round ball for the head of a stuffed animal, but I need it a bit larger than this makes. how can I scale this up, and how does that change the number of stitches or rows?
.... any help would be fantastic

Hi Tuteate, thanks for he tutorial, it looks quite simple to follow, although I haven't tried it yet, actually :) I know that knitting these balls are also a part of making a toy caterpillar (gusanito) as shown on your page. All the rest parts of it-like, cheeks, eyes, legs, tentacles have only written instructions and frankly speaking I'm totally lost in all abbreviations and descriptions, which is so sad indeed bec I really love the way the toy looks and would like to make one myself. Would it be possible at some point to add more video-instructions containing steps on how to make all the rest parts of the caterpillar for the dumb-headed readers like me ))))? I would appreciate it very very much! Thank you for your answer in advance and keep on with your tutorials, they are all so much fun I just love them!!! Evgeniya, Russia.

I'm trying to follow the steps and I'm confused for the repeating part, if there are 6 parts do I count part 1 repeated as the third part and part 2 repeated as the fourth part? Or do I repeat 1 & 2 as part 3, 4, 5, and 6th? Hope that makes sense and someone can shed some light for me!

What would be the proper sequence of numbers if I wanted to make a larger ball? Is their an equation to use based on the total number of pegs used? IE what if I wanted to use 36 pegs.

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  6 років тому

Hi Althea! Maybe it is a yarn weight matter... If your yarn is too thin, the result comes out very loose ("holey"). I am using a super bulky yarn, size #6

After reading down over all the comments, I must be the only one having this problem........is there any way this could be bound off first, after the knitting is completed, in order to do the eyes, nose, stuffing, and closing it up? I found it very difficult to do all those things while it was still attached to the loom. Due to the small circumference, my stitches kept popping off the pegs while doing the eyes and nose. And stuffing it....oh my! I was struggling so much I started to dislike making it, and it was very hard binding off/sewing up the edges while the ball was still trying to hang onto the pegs. I coudn't sit the loom down because after stuffing, it wouldn't sit flat, so again the stitches were popping off making it extremely difficult to bind off and attach what was left of the sides. I almost gave up, but since I was in the middle of making the bunny, I had no choice but to continue on. The seam from the bind off is not very nice looking at all because of all the trouble I had with it still being on the loom, which really disappointed me after all the work involved making the appendages :(
As with all your videos, this was very easy to follow, and very concise --- I just wish it could be removed from the loom to do the extras after the knitting is done :(
Thanks for your consideration. I look forward to your next video, and I agree with previous commenters.....please show us how to make more plushie toys! :)

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  6 років тому +1

Hi Tami! Maybe you could try this tip: thread a yarn needle with a temporary contrasting color yarn, pass it through the loops, and take your work out of the loom. Then you can do the eyes, the nose, etc... And when you are done, you put it back on the loom (here you will see a video where I use a contrasting color thread to move some loops: ua-cam.com/video/5tSJMYzMdMs/v-deo.html ). Hope this helps! :)

Here's my attempt at writing it out (note: I'm new to knitting so I don't know knitting nomenclature)
How to Loom Knit a Ball
      1. Mark pegs #8 & #12 (not in video)
      2. Long tail of yarn (timestamp (ts):-12:00)
      3. Make slipknot & add to first peg (not anchor peg) (timestamp (ts):-12:03)
      4. Wrap 11 pegs twice & pull the bottom loop over the top (don’t do the first one with the slipknot)
      5. 12 pegs should have yarn & be “cast on”
Part (repeat 6 times in total) (timestamp (ts):-10:50--7:03)
      1. Wrap & knit, starting with #12peg (wrap in front), e-wrap knit in back the remaining pegs (all of them including peg#1 (the one with the slipknot)
      2. Purl to the left (including the #1peg / slipknot peg) STOP at #8 peg
      3. Skip last peg (#8) and e-wrap knit 4 (4 pegs)
      4. Skip the last peg and purl 5
      5. Skip the last peg & e-wrap knit 6
      6. Skip the last peg & purl 7
      7. Skip the last peg & e-wrap knit 8
      8. Skip the last peg & purl 9
      9. Skip the last peg & e-wrap knit 10
      10. Skip the last peg & purl 11 (you should be at peg #12)
      11. Go back to step 1 in this part and repeat
