  • Hey friends! I’m in chemo-immuno therapy and speaking is pretty tough at the moment. But I wanted to share the latest studio acquisitions with y’all. In an effort to minimize my “backpack” studio setup I got this tiny Glarry bass (Amazon description said “Ktaxon” but it’s branded “Glarry”). The stock round wounds sounded cool, but I’m a flats guy usually so threw some La Bella low tension, short scale strings on and this is the first test with that setup. TOO. MUCH. FUN. When I’m able to, I’ll get a review up.

Maybe too that I've got a few years on me, but back the in 80s I went to GIT in Hollywood. Lot of great players and guitars from total crap to L5s to a Super 400. Too many times the good players made anything they played sound really good and the guys who bought the pricey models struggled. Not because of the guitar, because an L5 does nothing by itself, it's not magic.
I'm taken to now want to play with these cheepies as I find them to be fun and more important I have to make all the sound, not so much the gear, sort of straight in to a ok-ish solid state with an 8" speaker and a touch of built in reverb. Pretty naked! I'd contend in a mix, or even solo with a cheap pedal EQ, a cheepie comes far closer to a much more expensive guitar than it has any right to!

I was tempted between this the the Ibanez Mikro bass at $199, still on the fence. You make this thing sound great! Maybe it's just me, but so many of these cheap guitars, either bass or guitar, seem to go out of their way to make ugly headstocks! Can't quite figure that out. Cool body on this one though. Is this the Yellow or what they call their Burlywood? Side note, I did the chemo / surgery / chemo business with a little stage 3 thing. I know it's miserable, good thoughts your way.

I have the Ibanez Mikro and 2 of these little Glarry basses . Glarry are definitely shorter but great great little guys . The Ibanez is pitch perfect across the neck and has a fantastic sound and 3” longer than the Glarrys . I go between them both because they can’t be beat . For the price and sound and playability I’ll take these any day . I’ve had Fender P bass , Gibson bass , Steinberg bass year ago but these little ones are 100% more fun to play and the sound difference is minimal to my ears . The Ibanez and Glarrys have perfect string height and perfect intonation across the necks .

YO MAN!! How's it going?! So good to see you. That little bass sounds amazing. Great for guitarists that can't deal with the longer scale lengths. So have you made any Lefty Blevin's yet? I am so interested in one of your builds my good man. Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the share!! God Bless You, Brother!!!

No lefties yet I’m afraid. I haven’t been able to do too much in the shop with chemo going on. But hopefully soon! The guitar covering the bass at the top is actually a ew prototype that I’m super stoked on. If I can get a solid batch of RH’s done, I’ll def work on a LH version.

@@MusicNerdStuff Continued prayers for your health above all else. 🙏🙏 I'm a patient man. And I can tell you are doing some quality stuff. It's more important that you heal, sir. But I seriously am looking forward to owning one of your guitars in the future - no doubt. Thanks for the reply!
