  • Heya friends! Hope this finds you well. Here's another budget offset. This time around it's a more Jag-centric offering, but all is not as it appears... Thx for watching!

I just picked one of these up and the switches are C O N F U S I N G! I mapped out all 64 configurations with pickup selection, tone, and even some basic resistance values (in guitar via cable method) and still can't see a clear pattern. Mine doesn't appear to have any out of phase-ness either so I ended up with lots of ways to shut off sound, and select bridge, neck, or both pickups and that's it. Anyone rewire this thing to something that makes sense? That said, for ~$150 it's got a pretty solid twang for surfy stuff! Happy enough, but it could be a cool project.

I really like that presentation style of having the unboxing in the top corner while you play some chill jams. A+

This is one of the better reviews of affordable guitars I've seen, and I love budget guitar reviews. The one thing I would like to see if you can do it is more exact neck measurements (like width at nut, thickness at first and 12th frets). As a guy who is super picky about necks I always wish reviews would be specific about this stuff and they rarely are, and it's easy to do with a pair of cheap calipers. Regardless, great review. I'm subscribing.

If you lived near Burbank, CA, I'm sure you and I could be lifelong BFF's ;-)
These are great demos. Your picture-in-picture unboxings while demoing on the main screen are a super creative way to make the sometimes boring part of unboxing videos lively. Thank you!

I wouldn't change a thing. Sounds great. I do lots of recording with too many guitars. Anything that fits several styles of music and is different than my traditional stuff is a win. Thanks!

I really enjoyed your fair review of this. Cozart. I am a strong believer in the virtues of cheap guitars. This Jazzmaster is stunning in every respect. In my opinion. I have 2 jazzmasters now so not likely will I buy this. But doggone! This is really impressive. Your nice playing helps, no kidding.

I just picked up a Cozart semi hollow Telecaster type and the pickups, hardware, and neck all feel amazing. Its an empress body which is ultra light but sounds oh so right. This Cozart you've got is a beauty.

I have been wanting a guitar with a tremelo for awhile. I don't play live anymore. I have several very nice guitars and my favorite and best guitar is worth a lot of money now so it only comes out at home with no kids or drunk musicians around. I bought that guitar in the fall of 1980 brand new and still have it. It's a handmade boutique Hamer Standard. the first real successful boutique guitar makers in the USA. It's almost a copy of a Gibson explorer but nicer in my opinion. that's why i never owned a Gibson. I do own a couple of Fenders though but they are Telecasters. I'm bouncing on what guitar with whammy bar to buy on a budget because I'm done buying high dollar guitars unless i see one for cheap. this looks nice and I saw one for sale for 100 bucks like new locally and you talked me into I think. the classic vibes used are to much. a squire will never hold it's value. Not worth 400.

Nice playing! You make that guitar sound fantastic. Question - Do you think you could swap a standard strat or tele bolt on neck onto it? The bolt patterns look the same.

Can you add your "useable switch positions" chart? I took my guitar apart a few months ago (big mistake for me, I'm not good at that stuff). Took a few pictures, but I'm also not good at that... The control plate is wired to the small plate's killswitch. That is wired to its two pickup switches. Obviously, those each have a wire to a pickup. Then it gets interesting. The pin that has the wire from the control plate to the small plate's killswitch has another wire that goes to the big plate's kill switch. Then that has wires going to the big plate's two pickup switches, but those two switches do not go to the pickups. They go to shared pins on the small plate's pickup switches (the ones that go to the pickups). Also, the wire that goes from the bridge switch to the bridge pickup has a weird split and rejoin. Mines connected together with masking tape (was not going to open that mess up). A different video I saw had yellow wires, but mine has blue wires. The weird bridge wire is black and the split-off is red.
Oh, also my big plate has a vertical switch at the top, not a horizontal. Weird...

I bought one of these a few years ago. Upon receiving it, I was disappointed to discover that the control plates were just clear plastic with a reflective foil backing. The wiring for mine was defective. It didn't work.
I didn't like the light-weight heft compared to my Jaguar and Jazzmaster. Even unplugged, the Cozart felt much less resonant than my Jag or Jazzmaster.
Imo, a large part of the weight difference is the guitar body. While the Cozart does have an offset body similar to a Jag or Jazzmaster, it is actually smaller than the bodies of either of those two with a much narrower waist. For me, it felt too small.
One of the things I like about Jag and Jazzmaster bodies is the size. The Cozart body felt too small to me, and compared to the hardware on a Jag, it's just not as nice.
I understand that it's a budget guitar. I have a few of them that I love, but they were built to better specs.
I sent mine back within a few days for a refund.
Anyhow, I just wanted to offer a varied opinion. This might be a good guitar for many. Many might like it. However, it doesn't really have the feel of a Jag or Jazzmaster to me.
If one wants to try something that feels nicer and is Jazzmaster-like, the SX Liquid from Rondo Music is a good choice. Out of the box, mine was great. I made some changes like a buzz stop and flatwounds, and it was perfect.
The Xaviere brand from Guitar Fetish also has a decent-looking Jazzmaster knockoff called the JT-100, iirc. It doesn't have the rhythm circuit, though.

@@jiminycricket2945 I bought it as a cheap modding platform, but I didn't like the overall feel and quality. I felt I'd be better off building something from scratch, which is what I started doing as a hobby.

Sorry but I've never seen anything but crap from Cozart! I run a fairly repair shop and have seen a few dozen of them. Anything from badly aligned necks to loose frets and warped/twisted necks.
