Tesla upgrades are not from year to year, but from car to car... You get randomly new upgrades from one production batch to the next one :/ I think it is somehow ok, but they should mention this for new buyers since even their sellers are unable to know if your car will have or not a new feature. I got my m3lr an year ago, and they were totally unaware of the heated steering wheel (which I got, but someone else didn't even ordering just some day before me)
Yes you're absolutely right! Since Tesla has an agile approach to changes that they rollout in their production, it's really hard to do an exact side-by-side comparison for the year models to be honest. But totally agree that it would be nice to have some more transparency over which features the car assigned to you is getting.
Thanks for sharing the distinctions highlighted in the video. Clearly the mantra of continuous improvement is being represented in every aspect of the car model years.
Thank you Andrew! Though sometimes it’s easy to experience buyer’s remorse with all these frequent changes, it’s great to see Tesla rolling out these updates in a more agile manner rather than just waiting for yearly model updates.

That's a difficult task though. Apple needed over a decade to create ARM chips that can compete against traditional x86 chips. I would rather guess that once Intel/AMD come up with their own ARM chips then Tesla will switch to it.
i used to be jealous with the newer models. then one day tesla gave me free premium connectivity for life.. i later upgraded the wiring harness to tap into all the speakers. utilize the 980 motor and foot lights. added some wireless gaming controllers. still would like the auto trunk, but that can be added later
That's so cool - how did you manage to score the free premium connectivity? Yes being able to so easily make all theses mods to a Tesla is surely a stand out benefit. Would be keen to know how you enabled the footwell lights 😊

Hey sorry I'm not sure if you can buy official updated ones but there are some third-party ones that are slightly different that you could possibly look into... Might be worth getting in touch with Tesla service team to see if they allow you to upgrade.
Thank you! Very helpful. I got my Model 3 June 15th 2021 (almost a year :) ). Interesting updates. The only thing I would desire is really the tail lights. I have the 82kw battery so an upgrade on battery would be nice, but it's good 'nuff
Glad it was helpful! 😊 Tesla is always making continuous updates throughout the year and I'm sure most of us won't be changing cars every couple of years. It's a great car regardless and it's nice to at least get software updates that bring new features even for older models.
Uk 0-60 for 2022 is 5.8 but has everything else you say of too! Very much looking into getting one, such a good value EV imo for that cost and price point ❤️🙌😎
Yep 0-60mph is in 5.8s as shown in the video which translates to 0-100km/h in 6.1s (sorry I'm in NZ so mentioned metric units but also included imperial conversions in the video). It's a fantastic car for sure! We have had ours for about 8 months and it still feels fresh as ever 😊
I am based in New Zealand and all Model 3's here in the Australia/New Zealand always came with the floor mats. I know that the base model SR+/RWD in the USA don't come with floor mats but the Long Range and Performance models do. The front fog lights are also only present on these higher models. And the speakers also only changed on these higher models. Tesla reduced the premium sound package from 14 to 13 speakers. But these base models I was comparing don't have a speaker change. Hope this helps :)
The usb thing is probably for safety. The glovebox can only be opened when the car is unlocked, so trying to hack the car doesn't work unless the owner unlocks it
Yep for Sentry mode USB it makes perfect sense! But a handful number of people still used the center console USB ports for playing their music, etc off their drives which they can't anymore. Doesn't impact me personally but can be a nuisance for those that care. Apparently this change was done due to a chip shortage for controller chips used for data transfer...
@@EVKiwis I really like to use the 2 usb c ports in my M3 for plugging in wired controllers for the occasional gaming session at a SC. No need for any battery powered wireless controllers that could be empty the few times that I actually want to use them. I hope they add that functionality back at some point.
@@bfbf7fd7b8f878fb8f7b Great point! I hope so too... As now I have to do exactly what you mentioned using a USB hub plugged inside the glovebox which is much less convenient in my opinion.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a LR model for comparison but most of the differences are the same as what's mentioned in this video. Two things that are different would be: 1) Range: 358 miles in 2022 LR vs 353 miles in 2021 LR. 2) Sound system: 14 speakers + sub + 2 amps in 2022 LR vs 13 speakers + sub + 2 amps. According to Tesla, reduction of a speaker has not caused any noticeable differences to the sound experience. Hope this helps!
Could there be any market related differences in those features? Seeing you’re in NZ and I’m wondering if everything I the video also applies in the US.
Other than the new tail light design possibly being region specific to comply with regulations of UK, AU and NZ, all the other changes are global as far as I am aware.

They need dual pane glass all around bad! What I don't understand is how so many cars with single pane are quieter, yet Tesla needs dual pane with added weight to quiet the car.
I couldn't agree more! Don't know why they left out the rear windows when it was introduced in the front ones. And I would say Tesla (or any other EV) feels louder than other cars due to their being no other noises of the engine, etc. So the road noise is just more audible in the cabin than other cars.
Hello, Previous Tesla owners ran an experiment and found the reason being the glass top of the car. In typical cars, the roof has insulation that dampens road noise. The glass roof of a Tesla does not have insulation and there is no sound dampening. This is why they focused so much on the sound system - to distract people from the loud cabin

Great question! Google says "According to the Tesla owner's manual, it is not advisable to use the lithium-ion battery to jump-start other vehicles. Instead, connect the positive terminal of the EV to the other car's battery and the negative clip to the vehicle's metal."
@@EVKiwis I am replacing my 2019 Standard Range Plus Model 3 with the new 2022 Standard RWD Model 3 with LFP battery and I'm excited that the LFP battery can be charged to 100% often and degrades much less then then my current Nickle/Cobalt battery over time. I am hoping I won't notice the slightly slower 0-60 MPH speed.
@@MTMnet2008 that's certainly the best thing about LFP! Not having to worry about keeping it in a specific battery range makes world of a difference. We are almost approaching one year of owning our Model 3 and have only had 5-6km of reported range loss (when 100% charged) which is pretty decent I must say. I've driven both and can safely say that you won't notice the acceleration difference, unless you're comparing them side-by-side.

@@EVKiwis I have just broken my windshield on the motorway and once I went to a windshield dealer, we discovered the windshield ordered was not the same at this level (model 3 Performance, March 2022 from Shanghai factory). Even Tesla Service Center in France has changed some 2022 windshields and they had to remove them and replace with the right reference. Yeap it's $72k NZD (inc. all taxes) here in New Zealand where I am based. It was $68k a couple of weeks ago before the price increases. We also have a $8,650 subsidy here which really helps bring down this price. The range is different due to the AU/NZ regions listing range estimates using the WLTP standard whereas Canada uses the EPA standard. The underlying battery is the same and EPA estimates are definitely closer to the real world range you would get out of these cars.

is there a newer, 2023 version of model 3? I am looking to buy one in a couple of weeks.
Good work ok putting this so well together i knew only about 2/3 of the things ur mentioned. Keep it up!
Thanks so much Martin! Really appreciate the feedback and glad to know that you learnt something new from this video 😊
Wow actually quick and useful without the fluff! 😮
Thanks - glad you like it!
Had a '21 and sold for a '22. The '21 did feel a bit quicker. But all the computing fell faster in the '22
You nailed those two biggest differences between the two models pretty well!

I hope Tesla reaches a point where they start developing their own ARM chips. Efficiency will be increased dramatically.
That's the dream! Pretty sure there have been rumours around this so expecting this to come in the future 😀
Great stuff EV kiwi's this was super insightful

Yep 0-60mph is in 5.8s as shown in the video which translates to 0-100km/h in 6.1s (sorry I'm in NZ so mentioned metric units but also included imperial conversions in the video). It's a fantastic car for sure! We have had ours for about 8 months and it still feels fresh as ever 😊

The differences Tesla makes year on year makes me want to never get one because I'll always be sad I didn't get the latest lol
Doesn’t the 2022 also come with floor mats? What about the fog and speakers? That didn’t change?
I am based in New Zealand and all Model 3's here in the Australia/New Zealand always came with the floor mats. I know that the base model SR+/RWD in the USA don't come with floor mats but the Long Range and Performance models do. The front fog lights are also only present on these higher models. And the speakers also only changed on these higher models. Tesla reduced the premium sound package from 14 to 13 speakers. But these base models I was comparing don't have a speaker change. Hope this helps :)
Is the sound system still different between RWD and AWD
Yes it is, RWD still has the partial premium sound system with fewer speakers and no subwoofer sadly.
The name of the channel is so amazingly unique haha! EV Kiwis - represents you and your channel’s objective quite well 👌
Haha thank you! Glad to know someone appreciates the thought that went behind the naming 😀
Very succinct and informative video. Thank you for this.
Very helpful video, thank you! Would like to know the differences between 2021 LR and 2022 LR too if possible
I’m wondering now if it was only the long range that got the powered trunk
@@ZackScriven No I think all Model 3s have powered trunk
Unfortunately I don't have access to a LR model for comparison but most of the differences are the same as what's mentioned in this video. Two things that are different would be:
1) Range: 358 miles in 2022 LR vs 353 miles in 2021 LR.
2) Sound system: 14 speakers + sub + 2 amps in 2022 LR vs 13 speakers + sub + 2 amps. According to Tesla, reduction of a speaker has not caused any noticeable differences to the sound experience.
Hope this helps!
Yes all Model 3s manufactured 2021 onwards have a powered trunk.

Could there be any market related differences in those features? Seeing you’re in NZ and I’m wondering if everything I the video also applies in the US.

Is the model 3 roof factory tinted?
Yes it is - reflects a reasonable amount of heat and protects from UV rays getting into the cabin.
Hello,
Previous Tesla owners ran an experiment and found the reason being the glass top of the car. In typical cars, the roof has insulation that dampens road noise. The glass roof of a Tesla does not have insulation and there is no sound dampening. This is why they focused so much on the sound system - to distract people from the loud cabin
@@PandanNyTV That's super interesting - thanks very much for sharing! 😊

can the 15.5v battery jumpstart another car with the traditional 12v battery?

It's hard to argue that most of the changes in 2022 are certainly for the better!

Oh really! I actually didn't come across this change anywhere and you're the very first person to enlighten me about this so thanks so much. I will dig deeper into this and see what percentage of 2022 model 3s actually have this change 😊
What 72k ??? where do you live, i am in Canada Quebec and the 2022 tesla base model 3 rwd is 61 380$ but as 430km of range
