  • Final video of the 200hp 14 ft Jon boat. As you can imagine, the combination is a little much and not worth keeping around. However, we have some other projects and video ideas in the works.
    Big thanks to Luke Bosworth (@lukebosworth_ on Instagram) for the top notch camera work and footage.

      I have a new 60etec on my 16' Jon (basically the same as this) and with the right prop when trimmed out its much quicker than it should be (rated for 35). It hops out of the water fast, and I love messing with guys in fast looking boats. Even if they beat me, it's still a chuckle to watch them get butt hurt when I'm still keeping pace with them and they have to go wide open to just barely pull away.

    • @jjcdrummer
      @jjcdrummer 10 місяців тому

      These guys are freaking nuts.. I keep looking at it and thinking, if they can lower the center of the gravity on the motor, it might make it more stable. Idk enough to know if you can shorten the drive portion of it or not. Could just lower the top of the transom but that puts the prop lower. Sounds like a shorter midsection is the key.
      Maybe some aluminum square stock reinforcement to keep the hull from folding would be keen too? Just insane lol

  • @jamesmarsh1831
    @jamesmarsh1831 9 місяців тому +2

    It would work perfectly being more stable and float better by lowering the engine another notch or two, add another 150 to 200 pounds up front along with adding a set of side stabilizers to each side of the boat, not outriggers or pontoons but side stabilizers that are about a foot to 16 inches wide by the same deep and run at least half of the length of the boat and taper in, also add a bilge pump, you would be amazed what that would do to help, then you would be able to run closer if not wide open

    I'm all for this kind of experimentation. I have done similar on much smaller jon boats and found that the flat bottom design induces drag which starts to porpoising which is difficult to stop at speed. I would like to see you do this with a 14-foot aluminum v hull of light weight design. you'll have less wetted surface in the front so there will be less propensity to porpoise because of induced drag on the front of the hull.

      I enjoy tweaking with my Jon boat. But, there is a point where the drag builds up so much that it becomes inefficient and takes exponentially more power to go slightly faster, and as the turbulence/pressures build up it becomes less and less stable.
      Sort of like when they were trying to break the sound barrier in the 40s, they had to change up a bunch of things to beat the turbulence created at those high speeds that weren't noticed before.

    Ive been on the water my whole life. This is something to do on flatwater with safety support. Super dangerous if the outboard kicks out at speed. Zero way to even approach full speed and i think he knows this, that why he has that long tiller to have a huge mechanical lever
