My 1990 750 Sport had the same/similar aluminum swing arm. These were known weak point as the quality of the aluminum welds was not good and could developed cracks. Mine cracked at the weld area of the mono-shock tower to the swingarm after I put about 45,000 miles on her. Luckily, I was riding straight at the time, when the rear of the bike just collapsed on the spinning tire. I loved that bike, and it was very reliable. Before that bike I had 1983 Pantah 600, after the 750 Sport I had 1986 900SS, and lastly a 1993 749S Monoposto. That last one is by far the best riding Ducati I ever experienced ( including riding my friends 851, 888, 916, 996, etc.).
Thanks for the comment! You've owned some great Ducatis. I agree with the riding quality of the 749/999. Not many people like the design, but it is a dream to ride!
Well done comprehensive service of the venerable Ducati 750 L twin 2V. Interesting you used Ferodo pads vs the Z04s .. I like the Ferodos too on my 999 So easy to service these 2V w/ the Dell Orto carbs which fuel perfectly when maintained .. enjoyed it, thank you !!
Goed project en weer een leuke video vol nuttige info. Ze hoeven niet allemaal tot nieuw of zelfs beter dan nieuw gerestaureerd te worden. Lekker mee rijden! Daar zijn ze voor gemaakt.
It is a striking bike indeed, and very well handling too! Cycle World has always been favorabel towards Ducati. I have a few copies myself but not the one with the Santamonica on the cover.
Wow, what a simple bike. I have a B model made into a Montjuich race bike Where as I tossed a valve in the rear, split the piston, bent the connecting rod, yada yada yada. The mechanic is almost done I purchased the valves from you guys, instead of the normal keepers he got the special ones. Carrillo rods, Pistal pistons. I cannot wait to have 'er back on the track.
Excellent video, it was almost as if I was in the workshop with you, learning all the little details about working on this great bike to get it ready to go back on the road
Ez a motor megérdemelne egy eredeti méretű hátsó gumit, 160/60 ZR 16-ot. Tudtommal ma az egyetlen gyártó a Shinko, amely ilyen méretű gumit gyárt. Mindazonáltal a magasabb profilú (nagyobb átmérőjű) abronccsal jobb kanyarbeli menettulajdonságot kap a motor. Üdv, Egy Paso 750 tulajdonos!
They're not at all flawed but it does take some time to get used to the lower gyroscopic effect compared to 17" or 18". I can assure it it rides really well!
We are great fans of Ducati's (engine) design and especially the handling and racing-oriented feel of these classic bikes. The quality of engineering and production is generally very good. Of course there are some issues here and there, but that is the case with all manufacturers.
There is no reason for vacuum fuel taps to go wrong, at least on Japanese bikes they don't. I'm still running two Suzuki T500's(a '71 and a '75) with the original vacuum tap without any problem.
I always laugh when I hear upgrades that replaced the cheapest part possible from the factory called 'incorrect'. Price point objectives are not important when dealing with these God classics. The best of the best of the best. No compromise.
I guess you're talking about the brake m/c? I agree that it is a much better part than fitted by the factory. But you can also take the 'originality approach' and replace it with the factory fitted 'correct' item. It's a matter of taste I guess
@@BackToClassics I would guess he meant the Exhaust clamps you kept complaining about, they are clearly aftermarket upgrades to the original ones that always warped and leaked......
@@BackToClassics Not so much the brake m/c, since that is not at all period. I just laughed when I heard 'correct', because 100% original is so very much not correct if one is truly knowledgeable about the brand, the history, the racing pedigree and the time period. I'm not implying you are not knowledgeable, more that the average auction buyer is not. I strongly object to dumbing a vintage build down so it meets the 'original' standard since the only reason that has value is because the average buyer doesn't have the knowledge to possibly put a value on it when they don't understand every single part that deviates from production. I think that period correct high performance parts tell a speed story, sometimes imagined and sometimes authentic. Real racing provenance brings the authenticity, but I love even the imagined story of the gentleman racer who is not famous and didn't really have notable success. Those 'special' parts make fertile in my imagination the history that might be. I would not want to leave you with the impression that I am being overly critical, as I do enjoy your channel and I'm looking forward to seeing this bike go through this process.
@@Mad-Duk_Machine_Werkes Excellent point, many changes are to correct historically deficient parts which after one month in the rider club forum and the new owner will want them as well.
What do you think about this Neglected 750 F1 Santamonica? Think we could get it back on the road soon?
EXCELLENT calendar above the sink whilst flushing the fuel tank- BEST part of the video! Hahaha
Such calender is a minimum requirement for any motorcycle shop! But we have to be careful not to get a red flag from UA-cam 😉

Zo is het! De staat van deze Santamonica is eigenlijk het mooiste: gebruikt maar origineel en straks ook nog eens technisch in goede doen.
Remember seeing photo of one on front cover of Cycle World.... Beautiful 🤩😊

GREAT BIKE-GREAT WORK! GO" B2C!!!
Thanks! 👍
Very nice
Thanks!
Lovely bike.
We agree!
Great bike. So desirable
It sure is!
Decent looking old bike
And in a technical good condition too once we're done with it!

You're quite right. The Shinko tyres are on order for this bike!
👍🏼
Nice bike. Always thought they were slightly flawed with the 16” wheels (that rear tyre, speechless). Bet the fork oil smells as bad as the fuel tank!

Gluteus maximus & Pectoralis major is all I've got to say to that.

Agreed, but the vacuum fuel taps Ducati used in the late 1980s are known to go wrong.
