  • How to sidechain compress audio with the RNC 1773 Audio Compressor.
    Sorry about the audio - i forgot to check the levels going into the camera. Not to worry: i have other videos on this subject, and also how to use the Roland MX-1 as a form of "Pseudo Sidechain compression".

    many thanks mate, I've been looking (and not finding) good info on sidechaining the RNC with my microphone from my mixer to duck the music. Your pictures were a big help and the steer on what leads to get hold of. You got me round the corner of understanding this a lot more.

    Rock musician, landed here looking at reviews for the RNC1773... Mind... Blown. Literally. Awesome!

    So, you only use the RNC to compress the kick drum sound, by separating it by its individual kick output and also using the same kick drum signal as a trigger.
    Have you tried, or know how it could be configured in way that the RNC compresses the entire mix (including other sounds more than only the kick drum) via sidechain trigger according to the kick drum signal?
    I am very interested in acquiring a compressor of this type to make the side chain. But I want to know if the RNC compressor have a ideal quality to compress the entire audio mix and, on the other hand, if it can use an input signal for trigger that does not have the kick drum as the only component. I have all the drums in one signal so I need a compressor that the triggers according to the range or spectrum of low frequencies associated with the kick (for example a volca drums, which has only 1 audio output)
    Thanks for your video is really usefull

      yes - it can do all of that - and i would say one of the best in this price range. It has a separate input for the sidechain control so u can route anything into the control (including voice - so when u talk it ducks your main audio out of the way like on radio shows). one limitation is that is not very fast which might not be ideal for House music - in some ways the Alesis 3630 is better for this as it pumps much harder and affordable 2nd hand units can still be found

      i think it's a good one to try. Done the track i might get some of the others in this price range to see what they can do... first got to pay for the new Roland System 500...

    I have the two types RNC and RNLA. What's your opinion? I dont know which one i should use for stereo master bus and which one for bass sidechaining.

    • @TheInterGalacticFederation
      @TheInterGalacticFederation  Рік тому +1

      i am not experienced with RNLA so cannot advise, but the RNC does sidechain and would also be good on the master channel.

    What did you use to sequence everything. Love the use of compressed drone. I have have RNLA.

      The master clock would be coming from the RC505 into a RK004 midi splitter. The Bass station2 has Latch and Arp on. It looks like i was using the Zaquencer in BCR200 too.

    So, this still will do ducking/sidechain compression on a stereo output?
    Like if I just had a stereo lead or synth or etc and just wanted a Drumbrute or Volca or whatever to punch some holes through the mix?
    Just need a TRS cord? What about making it also serve partially as a limiter for hotter sources pre-audio interface *I can't afford a mixer yet and it's mostly minimal* Just curious thank

      i don't know that it receives stereo to trigger the sidechain but it does sidechain compress the stereo audio in/out. i send the signal from just the left channel (mono) of the kick drum to trigger the sidechain.

      can u post a video to demonstrate? u need a high ratio, fast attack and decay, with low threshold. You might have a problem with the cable - it has to split the RING and TIP out to different 6.3mm plugs.

    • @TheInterGalacticFederation
      @TheInterGalacticFederation  2 роки тому

      no - i am using a separate out (the Kick's individual Output) for the sidechain, while the main stereo output of the RD8 takes the kick audio thru to the mixer so that it can still be heard.
