  • Popping down the road to buy a piece of freshly made char siu pork is something I miss from my years spent living in Asia. It's why I have a quick and easy char siu pork cheat's recipe I can whip up in minutes, especially on a busy weeknight when dinner is always such a scramble. The result is a char siu pork noodle salad bowl to get on board with, packed full of sweet and sticky flavours and feels. What a vibe.

So many iterations of this in Vietnamese cooking. You should try the version using curried beef (thinly sliced beef, lots of minced garlic, etc., and marinate a bit before stir frying). My dad made it a lot growing up and we'd serve it with thinly sliced cucumber (like you'd see Thai women slicing for papaya salad), mint, cilantro, sliced lettuce, fresh roasted crushed peanuts, etc. Dump a ton of fish sauce on and you've got a delicious meal for the hotter months. The grilled lemongrass or chicken versions are great, too. Those versions are often served with a fried spring roll.

Well I just want to say as I settle into my 3 month work stint in Ho Chi Minh I was gutted I only had this thing called UA-cam CHANNEL. I mean, what IS that? But, restricted to only that, I realised there you were, and I can watch the latest recipes and vids, and well, salivate. Thanks for the insights, the advice, and giving me the bravery to throw caution to the wind and order that bowl of unidentifiable goodness while I am here. From a Mooloolabalian to now a Ho Chi Minher, keep it up, and thanks for the burps and giggles.

Hi Marion.I had a Cambodian friends who makes the noddles salad but she use beef sticks not bbq.its taste so good. I am now using the fish sauce like the want you use it's better than the soy sauce.Thankyou for the recipes.Hello from Canada

I am going to have to try this recipe. I started growing thai basil as I couldn't find it very often for another recipe that I made in the past. It so delicious and so different to sweet basil. Thank you for sharing this recipe. 🥰

I just bought a huge pork roast I’m grinding up tomorrow, because it’s best to grind your own fresh pork and I’m making this first thing, wonderful idea Marion, everything is ready from my garden and I’ll add some daikon radish also because I don’t have any cucumbers ready yet, Aloha from Hawaii

Oh my gosh that looks delish! Thankfully here in the US I can find 80% lean pork in the Asian grocery store - adds so much more flavor than totally lean. This is going in my meal plan for next week! Thank you for your always yummy recipes.

I would have never thought about using ground pork for this. Have on many occasions used pork rashers and they are also amazing, but do require me to turn on the oven and roast them (which is sometimes a stretch during the week). I will for sure be using this hack and making some Chinese BBQ pork patties! 😊

I can’t wait to try this!!!! Pork is so much less expensive right now. Need more recipes as my husband isn’t fond of pork chops. Which char siu sauce do you use??? It looks very dark compared to the one we get in the USA (AH-SO) that is fluorescent pink (& super salty)! Bet this would work great with ground chicken too!!!! ❤❤❤

Your nuoc chum was delicious but every recipe I see other than yours has water added . That surely would weaken it .
